Russia launches first moon probe in 47 years

 

The Roscosmos Luna-25 aims for a historic soft landing at the lunar south pole

 

The Russian space program has launched a probe to the moon for the first time since 1976. Luna-25 blasted off from the Vostochny spaceport in the Amur Region and is aiming to touch down in the southern polar region by August 21.

 

All previous probes have landed in the equatorial region. If it lands successfully, Luna-25 would arrive two days before India’s Chandrayaan-3 for a historic first lunarfall in the rugged polar terrain.

 

Luna-25 is the first moon probe made in modern Russia, entirely from domestic components. The USSR launched 24 official ‘Luna’ missions between September 1958 and August 1976.

 

The probe’s objective is to carry out scientific research in the southern polar region of the moon. Luna-25 is equipped with instruments for analyzing the lunar soil, plasma and dust components for the presence of rare minerals. The designated lunarfall site is near the Boguslavsky Crater and the mission is scheduled to run for one year.

 

According to Roscosmos, the crucial first phase of the mission will take nine minutes, from liftoff to the third-stage separation of the Fregat module, carrying the probe. The module is supposed to fire the main engine twice to set Luna-25 on a flight path to the moon.

 

The flight itself is supposed to take five days, with two trajectory corrections along the way. The last phase will take about three days and set the probe on a circumpolar orbit at the altitude of around 100 kilometers. In the fourth phase, Luna-25 would switch to an elliptical landing orbit with a minimum altitude of 18 kilometers and carry out a soft landing in the south polar region.

 

India hoped to be the first to land in the polar mountains, in September 2019, but the Vikram lander of the Chandrayaan-1 probe lost connection and crashed. The Chandrayaan-3 mission, launched in July, is already in lunar orbit and aims for a polar landing by August 23.

 

The Soviet Unions’ space program notched a number of historic firsts with the Luna probes. Luna 1 became the first spacecraft to leave the earth-moon system, in January 1959. In September that year, Luna 2 became the first manmade object to reach the moon. Luna 9 performed the soft soft landing in February 1966, and Luna 10 became the moon’s first artificial satellite that March.

 

Though lagging behind the Soviets in orbital exploration, the US claimed the first manned landing on the moon, with Apollo 11 in July 1968. The Apollo program was discontinued in December 1972. The last Soviet lunar mission, Luna 24, returned samples of lunar soil to earth for study in August 1976.

All 16 Republican defendants named in the Michigan “false elector prosecution” pleaded not guilty on Thursday to several felony charges over their alleged role in a scheme to overturn the 2020 presidential election results, the state attorney general’s office announced.

Nine of the defendants were arraigned on state charges during a virtual court hearing in Lansing, while the other seven pleaded not guilty in recent weeks, according to reports.

“Each was given a personal recognizance bond which stipulates defendants must not travel out of state without permission of the Court, must not possess or purchase firearms, ammunition, or dangerous weapons, must not commit any illegal acts, and must not miss any court dates at the risk of jeopardizing their bond,” Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel’s office said in a news release.

Nessel announced felony charges against the defendants in July for allegedly signing their names to multiple official documents in the basement of the Michigan GOP headquarters on December 14, 2020, that claimed that Donald Trump won Michigan’s Presidential election in 2020.

The attorney general said the defendants then transmitted the documents to the U.S Senate and National Archives in an alleged coordinated effort to award Michigan’s electoral votes “to the candidate of their choosing, in place of the candidates actually elected by the people of Michigan.”

“The false electors’ actions undermined the public’s faith in the integrity of our elections and, we believe, also plainly violated the laws by which we administer our elections in Michigan,” Nessel said in a news release last month.

“My department has prosecuted numerous cases of election law violations throughout my tenure, and it would be malfeasance of the greatest magnitude if my department failed to act here in the face of overwhelming evidence of an organized effort to circumvent the lawfully cast ballots of millions of Michigan voters in a presidential election,” she added.

Shelley’s ideology contributed to the modern feminist movement, a movement that has led to what Gress calls “The End of Woman.”

Russia launches first moon probe in 47 years

 

The Russian space program has launched a probe to the moon for the first time since 1976. Luna-25 blasted off from the Vostochny spaceport in the Amur Region and is aiming to touch down in the southern polar region by August 21.

 

All previous probes have landed in the equatorial region. If it lands successfully, Luna-25 would arrive two days before India’s Chandrayaan-3 for a historic first lunarfall in the rugged polar terrain.

 

Luna-25 is the first moon probe made in modern Russia, entirely from domestic components. The USSR launched 24 official ‘Luna’ missions between September 1958 and August 1976.

 

The probe’s objective is to carry out scientific research in the southern polar region of the moon. FBI expert says evidence now justifies bribery, money laundering probe of Biden family

Former FBI Assistant Director of Intelligence Kevin Brock said Thursday that the recent information disclosed by members of Congress on the Biden family warrants bribery and money laundering investigations.

Sure, Eris was the discordian goddess of chaos, but she was so much more. She was, in fact, the driving force of so many characters in the book.

Russia launches Luna-25 moon lander, its 1st lunar probe in 47 years

Russia reignited its moon exploration program today (Aug. 10), sending a lander toward Earth's nearest neighbor.

 

The Luna-25 mission lifted off today at 7:10 p.m. EDT (2310 GMT) atop a Soyuz-2.1b rocket from the Vostochny Cosmodrome in Russia's far eastern Amur Region. The launch picked up where the former Soviet Union left off in 1976, when Luna-24 successfully delivered about 6.2 ounces (170 grams) of moon samples to Earth.

 

But that was then. Luna-25 is the first domestically produced moon probe in modern Russian history.

 

If all goes according to plan, Luna-25 will spend the next five days journeying to the moon, then circle the natural satellite for another five to seven days. The spacecraft will then set down in the moon's south polar region, near Boguslawsky Crater. (Two backup landing spots are also in play: southwest of Manzini Crater and south of Pentland A Crater.)

 

Once down safe and sound, Luna-25 will work on the lunar surface for at least one Earth year.

 

A long road to the launch pad

 

It took longer than expected for Luna-25 to get off the ground; its liftoff was delayed for nearly two years.

 

One major countdown-delaying issue was sparked by Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which began in February 2022. The European Space Agency (ESA) had been set to provide the Pilot-D navigation camera, built specifically to help Luna-25 make a precision landing on the moon. Due to the invasion, however, ESA canceled the camera cooperation, along with a number of other collaborative space projects.

 

But getting Luna-25 on its way to the moon remained a priority, one highlighted by Russian President Vladimir Putin. In an April 2022 visit to the Vostochny Cosmodrome, he said the sanctions placed on Russia by the U.S., the European Union and others would not deter the nation from carrying out space exploration.

 

"Despite all the difficulties and attempts to interfere from the outside, we're definitely going to implement all our plans with consistency and persistence," Putin said.

 

Tricky terrain

 

Luna-25's main objectives are to test technology for future soft landings on the moon, analyze lunar dirt and rocks and conduct other scientific research. If its landing is successful, the craft will study the upper layer of the lunar regolith, appraise the ultra-thin lunar atmosphere and search for signs of water ice in the south pole region.

 

In terms of landing, the 1.6-ton Luna-25 is fundamentally different from its predecessors. Past Soviet lunar landers touched down in the moon's equatorial zone. This new lander will set down within the circumpolar region of the moon, in a site that involves tricky terrain.

 

Designed, built and tested by Russian aerospace company NPO Lavochkin, Luna-25 consists of two main parts. One is a landing platform outfitted with a propulsion system and landing gear, including a Doppler velocity and range meter. The other is an unpressurized instrument container loaded with scientific equipment, radiators, electronics, solar panels, a radioisotope heat and power source, antennas and television cameras.

Luna-25's "most important task, to put it simply, is to sit where no one has sat," Maxim Litvak, a chief scientist for the mission from Russia's Space Research Institute (known by the acronym IKI), said in a posting on the IKI website.

 

"Now everyone is aiming for the polar regions; this area is intriguing to everyone in the scientific community," Litvak said. "There are signs of ice in the soil of the Luna-25 landing area; this can be seen from data from orbit. In the equatorial regions where we landed earlier, this is not the case."

 

Indeed, Luna-25 is slated to touch down around the same time, and in the same general area, as India's Chandrayaan 3 probe, which launched on July 14 and arrived in lunar orbit on Aug. 6. And NASA plans to establish one or bases near the moon's south pole by the end of the 2020s, via its Artemis program.

 

Future Russian moon missions

 

Luna-25's lunar manipulator complex (LMK) is capable of excavating lunar regolith and delivering it directly to a laser mass spectrometer (LAZMA-LR). In addition, an infrared spectrometer installed on this hardware can inspect the material, assessing the prospect of finding water ice.

 

Litvak emphasized that the Russian lunar program is already planning out future missions based on the development of Luna-25's design. Luna-26, which will orbit the moon, will be followed by two landing efforts: Luna-27 will deliver a drilling rig to the moon, and Luna-28 is designed to deliver regolith from the moon's polar regions to Earth.

 

These lunar craft are a prelude to Russian plans to start deploying a full-fledged scientific station on the moon, in collaboration with China.

 

"I hope that we will be the first to land in the circumpolar region and conduct the first direct experiments to study and search for water. This will be the basis from which everyone will then start," Russian researcher Lev Zelyony, scientific director of the first stage of the Russian lunar program, said in an IKI posting. "So the successful flight of Luna-25 will mean a lot, and is important not only for pure fundamental science."

Journalist Goes Undercover To Expose The ADL's Nefarious Social Media Censorship Regime

 

The ADL’s once-respected reputation now stands alongside the likes of the ACLU, Mafia, and those evil bastards creating gas station sushi – in other words, it’s in shambles. This is just another example of a “mask” being ripped off like a three-week old bandaid, exposing the ADL as another flunky for the progressive left. And their mission is clear: To censor and “cancel” anyone who dissents from their political views, deploying tactics like labeling individuals as “racists,” “bigots,” and “anti-semites,” among other things. Now, a recent investigative series has unearthed another card up the ADL’s sleeve: social media censorship, focusing on Elon Musk’s X. This revelation is serious; as the ADL’s latest actions go way beyond name-calling and silencing. In fact, many months back, Revolver published an exposé uncovering a troubling alliance between the disgraced ADL and PayPal, shedding light on a sinister and deeply concerning collaboration that catapulted the ADL into people’s finances.

 

For years, the debate over Big Tech and its threat to freedom has centered most prominently on free speech. At stake is whether or not conservatives, populists, or any free-thinking or independent-minded individual who objects to our Regime’s corrupt ruling class will be allowed to share their views on Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube, and even whether they will be allowed to create alternatives without being hounded out of business.

 

This battle is extremely important. But an arguably even more important fight concerns the financial ecosystem of the Internet, and on that front the situation is no less dire. Two weeks ago, PayPal abruptly announced a major new partnership with the Anti-Defamation League to investigate the financial transactions of its users:

(NASDAQ: PYPL), in partnership with ADL (the Anti-Defamation League), today announced a new partnership initiative to fight extremism and hate through the financial industry and across at-risk communities. This is the latest effort by PayPal in combating racism, hate and extremism across its platforms and the industry.

 

Through this collaboration, PayPal and ADL have launched a research effort to address the urgent need to understand how extremist and hate movements throughout the U.S. are attempting to leverage financial platforms to fund criminal activity. The intelligence gathered through this research initiative will be shared broadly across the financial industry and with policymakers and law enforcement.

This arrangement ought to arouse enormous concern, not just from conservatives, but anybody who cares about the danger totalitarian woke capital poses to the basic liberties of Americans. At a minimum, simple prudence requires that conservative groups do everything they can to decouple their financial well-being from PayPal’s services. But more generally, rank and file users should look elsewhere as well, and Republican lawmakers should take interest in what is unfolding.

 

As will soon become clear, PayPal’s deal with the disgraced ADL ought to be treated as seriously as a massive data breach or hack of its users’ information. Earlier this year a hacker going by the moniker “God User” posted information on over over 700 million LinkedIn profiles on the DarkWeb; in 2019 Facebook experienced a devastating data breach concerning over 500 million users, whose information appeared online. Paypal sharing its user data with a radical political organization with a possible history of illegal activity must be treated with no less seriousness. In fact, the situation is far worse, as PayPal is intentionally inflicting this vulnerability on its users; unlike the data breaches described above, PayPal seems to have no intention of fixing the situation.

 

Both PayPal and the ADL have been remarkably cagey about the exact details of their collaboration. In particular, PayPal has done nothing to reassure consumers that it won’t be turning over enormous amounts of sensitive information to the ADL.

 

The ADL has their hands in a lot of pots, and this latest censorship venture, which was captured on camera by a citizen journalist who goes by the name Kyle is Based on X, is huge. In these first two clips, Kyle exposes the ADL’s alarmingly casual attitude towards censorship and banning people, totally disregarding the First Amendment rights of Americans as if it were an everyday occurrence—which it likely is. The ADL has even attempted to sway Elon Musk into banishing the top people on their private “hit list.”

This paper traces the history of one specific photograph and its exhibition over time from the 1930s through the 1980s: that of the lynching of ‘Bootjack’ McDaniels, tortured to death by a white mob in Duck Hill, Mississippi, in 1937. I use that history to reflect more broadly on how lynching photographs have shaped popular consciousness about racist violence at different moments in time. They are able to do so, in good part, because of their iconographic qualities. These photographs, like many historical photographs, tend to detach past events from historical specificity and, subsequently, render the past into symbolic form, which allows new meanings to be imposed on them through the text and context that surround them. Those new meanings can direct viewers’ emotional responses to the images. This process of recontextualization allows for a meaningful ethical engagement with both historical and present-day suffering. In these ways, lynching photographs have been crucial to the formation of black historical memories of violence and injustice in the United States. Through this same process of recontextualization, I argue, lynching photographs make it possible for white Americans to engage ethically with racist violence, in the past and the present, through what I call “sympathetic spectatorship,” – an emotionally empathic form of looking that also involves an awareness of social difference.
