General Order 1B was signed on May 8 and supersedes GO1A. The guide below is meant to help explain the order and the changes.

What was GO1A?

 

GO1A was an order signed in late March by Maj. Gen. Joe Jarrard, the Senior Responsible Officer for Stuttgart, in the interest of good order and discipline and the health and safety of all personnel in our community. It effectively restricted movements and activities of our personnel to prevent and protect from the spread of COVID-19.

 

What is GO1B?

 

GO1B is an update to GO1A which reflects changes in the COVID situation on and off-post as restrictions on permissible movements and activities adjust.

 

To whom does the General Order apply?

 

It is applicable to all Service Members, Department of the Army Civilians, Department of Defense Civilians, Family Members, and others present on, or seeking access to, the military installations of USAG Stuttgart.

 

It remains a violation of the GO1 to fail to comply with official orders and directions issued from a medical authority/supervisor regarding quarantine, isolation, and/or conditional release.

Lieu: The people who showed up on January 6th to attack the nation's capitol, were supporters of Donald Trump. They attacked the capitol to stop congress from certifying the fact that Donald Trump lost the election. Merrick Garland Accused Of Going Easy On Unabomber

 

Former FBI deputy assistant director of counterterrorism Terry Turchie appeared on Jesse Watters’ Fox News show today and made a shocking, but not surprising, allegation. Turchie said that U.S. Attorney General, Merrick Garland, obstructed the F.B.I.’s investigation of eco-terrorist Ted Kaczynski, more commonly known as the Unabomber. Garland did this, Turchie alleges, while in charge of the Kaczynski’s prosecution when Garland was working at the Justice Department during the Clinton Administration. From Fox News:

 

“I’ve never said this publicly, but I’ll just tell you right now because it just sickens me to watch and listen to Merrick Garland, because Merrick Garland was in charge of the prosecution at DOJ of the Unabomber,” Turchie said. “And I have to tell you something: He would not recommend to the AG that our search warrant to get into Theodore Kaczynski’s cabin be approved.” …

 

Turchie said Garland and his group of attorneys “had us working ’til 2 or 3 in the morning of April 3.”

 

“And finally, the AG Janet Reno, along with Louis Freeh, they stepped in, they approved the search warrant anyway,” he said. “Now, that was a case where we had bombs on airplanes. We had threats to blow up airplanes midair. We had people killed with bombs for 18 years. He wouldn’t do anything.”

 

Garland “would not recommend to the AG that we get into that cabin on April 3,” Turchie said. “He didn’t see the urgency then, and he didn’t seem to care about agents being up all night trying to get ready for that.”

 

This accusation comes shortly after the raid on Donald Trump’s home, Mar-a-Lago. During a press conference today, Garland admitted to signing off on the warrant that allowed for the FBI search after Newsweek (quoting a Justice Department source) initially reported the U.S. Attorney General had no knowledge of it.

 

Let this sink in, the Attorney General of the United States approved a warrant for the FBI to conduct a potentially illegal search of Donald Trump’s home that resulted in the confiscation of documents. But Garland would not recommend to his superior at the time, Attorney General Janet Reno, to pursue a warrant in order to search an eco-terrorist’s home while previously serving in the Justice Department.

 

Ted Kaczynski’s violent acts represent the true nature of environmentalism and Garland’s contradictory decision-making isn’t a case of misplaced priorities or misunderstanding a threat. Rather it demonstrates the left’s ethic of preferring the savage over the civilized.

In the end, the furor didn’t matter much. Trump’s empire eventually withered amidst a massive debt load and the enormous losses many of its businesses were incurring. Trump’s offspring and associates were accused of protracted criminal conduct involving bank fraud, tax and insurance fraud. When proof emerged (through a Russian source) of questionable financial dealings with Moscow and links to shady Russian oligarchs linked to Vladimir Putin, his credibility further eroded.

The play's first act is the teaser, an opportunity for Pinter to play with his audience. Its opening seems typical, and yet, it's not in the "set the scene and characters" mold. Somehow the "characters" never seem to get "set". Is Max a loud-mouthed bastard or a kindly old man? Is Ruth a whore or isn't she? After one puzzlingly suggestive remark by Ruth, Lenny wailsalmost as if he spoke for the audience: "Is that a proposition? Damn it, was that a proposition or wasn't it?" We demand that everyone fit in a well-known category: The whore, the kindly old man, the pimp, the vain and stupid boxer (Joey)and Pinter shoots it all out from under us as soon as we think we know who's who.

 

As the first act closes, Pinter redoubles his attacks on our expectations. People don't answer when spoken to, or if they do, they respond by talking about a totally different subject. Max begins a sentence with, "your mother was a lovely woman" and ends by denouncing that same lovely woman as a "slut-bitch". And throughout, Pinter maintains a delicate balance of humor and menace. In the midst of a conversation filled with small-talk, Lenny suddenly describes to Ruth his brutal beating of a woman the day before: "Well, she was standing up against this wall, see? No, actually she was sliding down the wall from the blow I had just given her." We demand rational, understandable behavior, but Pinter, as always, leaves his characters' motivations unexplained. The first act works to drive that rationalizing, "logical" approach from our heads, so that we might better appreciate the second.

 

The second act opens another front of Pinter's war on our intellectual complacency. The question is no longer simply "Why are they acting like that?", but has become even more basic: "Is this real or is this fantasy?" The absurdity of the situation grows stronger with each new turn of events; Lenny coolly makes his proposition, Ruth Coolly accepts it, and Teddy remains absolutely unconcerned. The family even asks Teddy if he wants to act as Ruth's "representative in the States", a kind of international pimp. Max laughs: "Why, Pan Am ought to give us a discount!" And to the absurdity is added the dream-like quality of Ruth's speech and action. The rhythms of the actors' speech become incantations, and feed the suggestion of fantasy and dreams.

And so we play the game again. The habits of our minds force us to once again look for the "explanation" for the events we see. In The Birthday Party, one could explain McCann's and Goldberg's actions as a fiendish underworld plot to get Stanley. Here it's just as simple: Ruth must have been a prostitute when Teddy married her (the suggestion is made several times in the play). Perhaps Teddy has brought her to Europe to work out the unresolvable differences between them, has failed in his efforts, and is now willing to let the family solve his problem. Or perhaps the meaning is more complex. Perhaps the play is a fantasy–the wish-fulfilling Oedipal dream of the sons to depose their father and have sex with their mother (Ruth is the mother-substitute). Or perhaps one should stop trying to categorize the play as reality or fantasy and listen to Pinter himself: "There are no hard distinctions between what is real and what is unreal, nor between what is true and what is false."

 

The Marlboro Theater Company's production captures the ambivalence of the play, and its lack of motivational explanation. The first act, which can have a tendency to move slowly and become tedious, is handled extremely well, largely because the Company manages to maintain Pinter's mix of terror and humor, so necessary for the initial attack on the "interpreters" in the audience. John Devany, as Max, shifts easily between the ranting, boastful, tough old man and the kindhearted, proud father whom Pinter has created, a difficult task when the character you portray seems to shift his personality for no reason. Hillary Waters' role, that of the enigmatic Ruthwhose motivations are even more hidden than Max'sis perhaps the toughest in the sense of pleasing the audience, just because her apparent lack of motivation is so exasperating. Yet, Miss Waters captures the combination of sensuality and trance-like mystery that is the primary generator of the fantasy suggestion of the play.

 

Bob McDonald's Lenny, while lacking in the sleekness one expects from the suggestion that he is a big-time pimp, is still quite good. There is one particularly fine interplay between Lenny, Ruth, their dialogue, and a pair of inanimate objects (a glass and an ashtray) which illustrates Pinter's capacity to utilize all the elements of production at his disposal. Lenny suddenly, and inexplicably, becomes insistent upon removing a glass he had given Ruth. "I'll take it," he demands, and she replies: "If you take it…I'll take you." The effect of this first sensual suggestion on Ruth's part is devastating to the audience's expectations.

 

Only Michael Field, as Teddy, disappoints. His Teddy appears more as the absent-minded professor than the unruffled, pipe-smoking, detached observer Pinter intends. Thus his climactic soliloquy loses some of the force it might have had: "To see, to be able to see. You're just objects, you just move about. I can observe. You're lost in it. I won't be lost in it!" In Field's hands, the soliloquy becomes a childish lament, rather than a strong image of the intellectual detachment that Pinter despises.

 

The success of The Homecoming, particularly in the small theater of the Boston Center for the Arts, is a joint effort of playwright, actors and audience. The audience's expectations, the mental gymnastics they undergo in searching for a meaning, are taken into account by the author and find their way into the dialogue of the actors. Pinter defies his audience to break out of their habit of categorization, to upset their "intellectual equilibrium". Do we ever know, he asks, the real motivation of the complex people who live in our "real" world? In fact, do we even know what is "real" and what is not? Audience, actor, and author, working together at the Boston Center for the Arts, grapple with just those questions, and produce an evening of fine theater in the process

My family fled religious persecution in Eastern Europe at the start of the 20th century. My grandmother, who is one of five children born in what is now Belarus, made it to the United States, as did two of her siblings. The other two did not. Those two were killed in the Holocaust, and there is little doubt that. But for America, the same thing would have happened to my grandmother.

Jacinda Ardern may no longer be Prime Minister of New Zealand, but she was back at the United Nations continuing her call for international censorship.

 

Ardern is now one of the leading anti-free speech figures in the world and continues to draw support from political and academic establishments.

 

In her latest attack on free speech, Ardern declared free speech as a virtual weapon of war.

 

She is demanding that the world join her in battling free speech as part of its own war against “misinformation” and “disinformation.”

 

Her views, of course, were not only enthusiastically embraced by authoritarian countries, but the government and academic elite.

 

In her speech, she notes that we cannot allow free speech to get into the way of fighting things like climate change. She notes that they cannot win the war on climate change if people do not believe them about the underlying problem. The solution is to silence those with opposing views. It is that simple.

 

While some of us have denounced her views as an attack on free expression, Harvard rushed to give her not one but two fellowships.

 

While the free speech community denounced her for unrelenting attacks on this human right, Harvard praised her for “strong and empathetic political leadership” and specifically enlisted her to help “improve content standards and platform accountability for extremist content online.”

 

I actually have no objection to the inclusion of Ardern as a Harvard fellow. She is a former world leader who is leading the movement against free speech. It is a view that students should consider in looking at these controversies.

 

However, Harvard has heralded her views with no acknowledgment of her extreme antagonism toward free speech principles.

 

There is also little countervailing balance at the school with fellows supporting free speech as a human right. Rather, Harvard (which ranks dead last on the recent free speech survey) has become a virtual clearinghouse for anti-free speech academics and advocates.

 

Free speech is now commonly treated on campuses as harmful.

 

Rather than the right that defines us, it is treated as an existential threat.

 

What is so chilling is to hear Ardern express her fealty to free speech as she calls on the nations of the world to severely curtail it to prevent people from undermining their policies and priorities.

 

She remains the “empathetic” face of raw censorship and intolerance. She is now the virtual ambassador-at-large for global speech criminalization.

Gilad Erdan interrupted a speech by Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and was escorted from the General Assembly

 

Israel’s permanent representative to the UN, Gilad Erdan, was escorted from the organization’s General Assembly on Tuesday and reportedly detained for interrupting a speech by Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi. Erdan had held up an image of a young woman who died in Iranian police custody last year.

 

Raisi addressed the assembly on Tuesday, delivering a speech accusing the US of stoking the conflict in Ukraine and declaring that Washington’s “project to Americanize the world has failed.”

 

The Israeli delegation walked out during the speech, but Erdan first approached the lectern while holding an image of Mahsa Amini, an Iranian woman whose death in police custody sparked violent protests across the Islamic Republic.

 

Erdan was ejected from the hall, and video footage showed him being escorted through the UN building by security guards. Multiple media reports claimed that Erdan had been “detained,” although a UN spokesperson disputed that description of the diplomat’s treatment.

 

“UN security spoke to him,” the spokesperson told The Independent, adding that “at no time was the ambassador detained in any way, shape or form. As far as we are concerned, the incident is closed.”

 

Erdan has since shared several news articles on his X (formerly Twitter) account describing how he was “briefly detained.”

 

“I will never stop fighting for the truth and I will always expose the UN’s moral distortion,” the diplomat wrote. “Those who roll out the red carpet for murderers and antisemites must be held accountable for their actions!”

 

The circumstances of Amini’s death are strongly contested. While activist groups and Western-backed NGOs claimed that Amini was beaten to death by police after her arrest for improperly wearing a hijab, the Iranian government insisted that she died of a pre-existing medical condition. Last September, Iranian authorities released a video showing Amini collapsing in a police station lobby as she stood alone.
