Not sure, I don't game much on a computer these days other than perhaps some Dwarf Fortress or Aurora 4X C#. The former has a Linux version while the 2nd used to run fine under Mono last time I tried a few years back but I've been using Windows as of late to play that one. GPU passthrough is another option for Linux users but I've never tried that one either.

The Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) Collaboration has released new images of M87*, the supermassive black hole at the center of the galaxy Messier 87, using data from observations taken in April 2018. With the participation of the newly commissioned Greenland Telescope and a dramatically improved recording rate across the array, the 2018 observations give us a view of the source independent from the first observations in 2017. A recent paper published in the journal Astronomy & Astrophysics presents new images from the 2018 data that reveal a familiar ring the same size as the one observed in 2017. This bright ring surrounds a deep central depression, “the shadow of the black hole,” as predicted by general relativity. Excitingly, the brightness peak of the ring has shifted by about 30º compared to the images from 2017, which is consistent with our theoretical understanding of variability from turbulent material around black holes.

Around $1.7 billion of the aid will go to 29,700 borrowers enrolled in income-driven repayment plans. Those plans are supposed to lead to debt forgiveness after a set period, but historically, this hasn’t always happened because loan servicers failed to keep track of borrowers’ payments, experts say.

 

In addition, 43,900 borrowers who have worked in public service for a decade or more will receive $3.2 billion in loan cancellation, the U.S. Department of Education said. Borrowers in the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program have also struggled to get the debt erasure they’ve been promised due to errors in their payment counts and other issues.

 

The announcement did not specify when eligible borrowers may expect to see that relief.

 

Consumer advocates have praised President Joe Biden for his recent actions but are pressuring him to do more.

 

On the campaign trail ahead of the 2020 presidential election, Biden vowed to cancel at least $10,000 of student debt per person.

 

“Student debt cancellation tipped the balance in Democrats’ favor in the midterms,” said Astra Taylor, co-founder of the Debt Collective, a union for debtors, in an interview last fall with CNBC. “Failing to deliver will demoralize and demobilize young people whose votes they cannot afford to lose.”

 

Biden’s plans to cancel up to $400 billion in student debt for tens of millions of Americans were thwarted last June at the Supreme Court. The high court said the president didn’t have the authority to instruct his Education secretary to cancel such a large amount of consumer debt without prior authorization from Congress.

Ukrainian drone maker blasts ‘total disorganization’ in government

The Ukrainian drone industry, which country’s leadership touts as being cutting-edge, issuffering from government red tape, logistical problems and general uncertainty, a key domestic manufacturer has said.

 

Ukrainian officials have identified drone warfare as crucial to gaining an edge in the fight against Russia. Production is not centralized and includes multiple manufacturers competing for state contracts, an approach that – according to proponents – fosters innovation and allows greater flexibility.

 

Aleksey Danilov, secretary of the national Security Council, claimed in an interview this week that Ukraine has proven to be highly successful at developing unmanned aerial aircraft.

 

“Our country is definitely in the top three in the world,” he insisted on national television on Thursday. “Its products are so advanced that some of our partners are seeking our advice. They study the hardware made by our private companies.”

 

The viewpoint clashed with remarks on the same day from Artyom Vyunnik, CEO of drone maker Athlon Avia. The firm was launched a decade ago and is one of a handful of survivors among the UAV startups of the time. Speaking to the online news outlet Radio NV,he described the current environment as “far from ideal” for the industry.

 

Vyunnik identified alack of planningby officials as a major obstacle. This month Athlon Avia received a production request for the first quarter of the year. The CEO said: “I could laugh if I didn’t want to cry” over how untimely it was.

 

“Logistics alone takes five to six months, and there is also time required for manufacturing,”while demand in Ukraine for foreign drone components has gone up by an order of magnitude.

 

Red tape has got worse in the two yearssince the outbreak of the conflict with Russia, even as officials have claimed they are seeking to liberalize arms procurement, Vyunnik explained. Over that period, “state contract rules have changed like four times… and with each iteration [they] got less clear and more risky for producers.” Newcomers have concerns that due to the labyrinthine system they could end up in jail, he added.

 

Asked by the host whether he thought intentional sabotage was involved, Vyunnik replied that he didn’t think so, andblamed “total disorganization and miscommunication”in the Ukrainian government.

 

Last week, Ukrainian Digital Transformation Minister Mikhail Fedorov suggested that citizens could help the military by producing small drones at home. He called the plan “realistic” and said participants would only need to complete a short training course first.

How its going:

Brocks CREW of nerd virgins hiding in the dark at CTR/American Bridge has been turned over to mostly bots (especially at night) which require a single operator to load them into new breads. (That's why it takes a few minutes for cointelpro techniques to start showing up in a new bread, unless the operator times it right and is watching in person when there's fresh dough.)

The bots trigger each other, with a post that looks to us like just the same old spam again. And that spam post will trigger 4 more posts. (ex. eye of providence spam, Hold up spam, currently)

 

While the bots used to be very bad at Boinglish (bot/English), they've also learned from real-person posts over these years, how to phrase sentences much better and what we talk about.

 

That makes it harder to spot a bot, but it also makes for some new cool identifying features And that is, that these bots also are simultaneously deployed elsewhere on the net on 4 and the rest of 8. In fact, they were on 4 first. So they learned from 4 as well, and BRING BACK words or ways of speaking only used on 4 and not on 8.

 

Example 1: The term 'jannie'.

/qresearch calls moderators BVs consistently. But the bots learned 'jannie' from 4ch and use it here by mistake because they are learning from both boards by being deployed at both.

 

Example 2: Contempt

The bots use contempt responses to silence. Anons here are on a WWG1WGA mission and while we may have differences and are happy to troll and mock, we do not use contempt in an effort to silence. While the bots have brought back a significant accumulation of contempt responses from 4

 

If you use both boards 4 and 8, you can tell the difference in speaking style, syntax and even content of responses. The bots learn, but they can't yet discern the cultural differences between 4, the rest of 8, and /qresearch.

A Republican Congressman said he believes that UFOs may be "angels sent by God," in this video of his appearance on a popular podcast. Eric Burlison, a Republican representative for Missouri, appeared on the That UFO podcast on Tuesday and discussed extraterrestrial theories after he was part of a secret US government briefing on UAPs(unidentified aerial phenomena) last Friday.

 

The politician, who has been privy to classified information on UFOs, said that he feels that the term "angels" is synonymous with extradimensional entities, even if that contradicts the biblical description of angels.

 

"They may not fit exactly the Biblical narrative, but whenever I use the term "angels, to me, it's synonymous with an extradimensional being," he said.

 

"In a lot of different scriptures, including the Bible and others, that's really the way that you describe messengers of God or angels," he continued, expressing a similar sentiment to his fellow Republican Congressman, Tim Burchett of Tennessee.

The passage of the stop-gap measure, known as a continuing resolution, averted a partial government shutdown and kept the government fully operational through early March at current federal funding levels.

 

Johnson, a Louisiana Republican, vowed upon becoming speaker just months ago not to pass temporary spending bills, in part because it funds the government with spending that conservatives say needs to be cut.

 

On Thursday, 207 Democrats and 107 Republicans voted in favor of passing the so-called CR. The legislation passed 314-108.There were 18 Republicans who voted against the bill in the Senate. It ultimately passed 77-18.

Galaxy invasion! To mark the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S24 series, a flying saucer measuring 525 feet descended on the iconic skyline of London, England.

 

The UFO was comprised of 550 drones, engaging in a complex aerial demonstration that took over 650 hours to design and program. A series of stunning images of the event were captured on a Canon EOS R5, Sony A9 and Nikon D5 – which you can see below. I've also embedded a video of the "invasion" at the end of the article, which is definitely worth a watch!

 

After a spectacular takeoff, the display began with the drones forming the words "Galaxy AI is here" in the stars above The Thames. After the drones transformed into an outline of the new S24 handset, they then engaged in a spectacular and dynamic depiction of the stars and solar system in motion.

 

While I thought that a spinning Saturn, complete with rings, was the culmination of the aerial demonstration, things kicked into an even higher gear when the drones combined to form a stunning flying saucer – with a design evoking of the iconic UFO from Steven Spielberg's Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

TheU.S. Embassy in Berlin fundedsimilar activities as the agency'sGlobal Engagement Center (GEC), each using "inoculation theory"to metaphorically vaccinate the public against disinformation and promote private groups that police so-called "wrong-think."

That's according to a sprawling investigation by the conservative Media Research Center, which posted select portions of materials it obtained through Freedom of Information Act and state public records requests, as well as from overlooked public sources.Republican lawmakers are investigating the department for GEC's funding of the U.K.-based Global Disinformation Index, which in 2022 released a report on what it considered the10 riskiest online news outletsfor disinformation. All of those on the list were conservative or libertarian leaning, which critics say was an attempt to blacklist them and cut off advertising dollars.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is suing the State Department for allegedly interfering with Texas law through its efforts with GDI and the U.S.-based fact-checking group NewsGuard. Secretary Antony Blinken also told staff abroad to promote the GEC-funded game "Cat Park," which teaches children to treat populism as disinformation, in local schools.

The embassy's public affairs section, meanwhile, sponsored seminars for European Union-funded organizations whosecurricula promote anti-misinformation video games and instruct children to promote "social justice." They include lessons by Konstantin von Notz, a German Green Party politician who oversees the nation's intelligence agencies, helped lead the youth-focused "No Hate Speech Movement" and pushed through a public-funding ban on a popular opposition party, MRC said.

The purported misinformation includes the legitimacy of the COVID-19 lab-leak theory, now favored by the FBI and Department of Energy as more plausible than the wet-market theory. The seminars, coordinated with theUniversity of Rhode Island’s Media Education Lab, promoted products for NewsGuard and Ad Fontes Media, both of which rate the purported reliability of news media but like GDI overwhelmingly ding right-leaning sources.

"The State Department provided a perfect demonstration of the Rhode Island Lab’s ability and the resources it could bring to the table," MRC said in its report. The agency didn't respond to Just the News queries. The "Medialogues on Propaganda" effort is documented in the URI lab's final report, which says more than 700 educators participated in seminars from June 2021 to April 2022. It was designed to help teach media literacy in response to "new forms of propaganda and disinformation [that] are compromising the quality of people’s democratic decision making."

It gives case studies of teachers who incorporated the training into their own school districts,including Florida's Palm Beach County, wherestudents were directed to use the Ad Fontes "Media Bias Chart" in a "game-based activityutilizing Minecraft to build media literacy, social emotional learning, and English proficiency skills for English Language Learners."

"Multiple educators who gave testimonials on the Ad Fontes website appear to have not divulged their use of the censorship tool to their employers," MRC said. Other participants included the University of Wurzburg's Media Education and Educational Technology Lab, which virtually hosted the seminars, and Media Literacy Now, a U.S. nonprofit that advocates "systemic change in K-12 education," promotes and tracks state-level media-literacy legislation and served as the "fiscal agent for this project."

MLN and Ad Fontes have a "strategic affiliation" that includes sharing personnel and MLN receiving 10% of Ad Fontes "Media News Nerd and News Nurturer Memberships." MLN then "pressure[s] school districts into purchasing Ad Fontes products," but their connections were left out of each group's presentations during the seminars, MRC said….

McNeill asked Hobbs to "steer away from" language in a "position statement" Hobbs helped draft for the National Council of Teachers of English that called on educators to"identify and disrupt the inequalities of contemporary life, including structural racism, sexism, consumerism, and economic injustice," so thatstudents become "empowered change agents."

 

It stirs up opposition that is not necessary, because it becomesevident they [NCTE] have an agenda beyond literacy," McNeill wrote, pointing to negative attention to the statement in The Washington Post. Yet McNeill herself characterized a Texas media-literacy law as "censorship of teachers" because it didn't force students to take 1619 Project lessons.

 

Another seminar featured Berlin-based Tactical Tech, which receives EU funding and partners with the Goethe Institute, the German government's cultural institute;European Schoolnet, composed of dozens of education ministries; and six nonprofits funded by progressive megadonor George Soros's Open Society Foundations.

 

The URI lab's final report describes the presentation by Tactical Tech's Daisy Kidd. She touted its Data Detox Kit, which promotes NewsGuard's plug-in and EU's brochure that describes the "anti-vaccination movement and climate change denialism" as "[p]seudoscience and conspiracy theories [that] certainly enjoy each others [sic] company."

 

Kiddpromoted another Tactical Tech curriculum called The Glass Room, which describes the "frictionless design" of social media platforms as a boon to misinformation andfaulted Telegram especially for "unlimited sharing" and no content moderation. One ofits interactive games penalized students for giving credence to the lab-leak theory– that COVID leaked from China's Wuhan Institute of Virology.

 

Yet another EU-funded group, MEET Tolerance, got a seminar to tout its curriculum "that increases aware use of media among economically and sociallydisadvantaged youth (aged 13-19), including migrants and refugees."

 

A lesson targeting older students says that "usually" those denying they are racist "share clearly racist opinions" and recommends a book with an unambiguous title:"The New Racism: Conservatives and the Ideology of the Tribe."A seminar participant who became "affiliated faculty" with the URI lab created a "Justice in Your Backyard" program in her northern Washington school district that MRC called "eerily similar to MEET Tolerence’s [sic] 'media producers' scheme."

 

It teaches students to "find and use credible sources" to "create a message that will inspire a call to action when it comes to topics of social justice!"Students created projects soliciting donations for gun-control and youth transgender advocacy groups, criticizing measures that conservatives promote as election integrity, and calling on peers to demand police-free schools.
