Abstract

The term meme was coined in 1976 by Richard Dawkins to explore the ways in which

ideas spread between people. With the introduction of the internet, the term has

evolved to refer to culturally resonant material—a funny picture, an amusing video, a

rallying hashtag—spread online, primarily via social media. This CNA self-initiated

exploratory study examines memes and the role that memetic engagement can play

in U.S. government (USG) influence campaigns. We define meme as “a culturally

Report: Speaker to Be Challenged by Conservatives

Conservatives are planning to challenge Mike Johnson, R-La., for speaker of the House during Wednesday's internal election, The Hill reported Tuesday.

 

They haven't decided on an alternate candidate, The Hill and Axios reported, and cautioned that the bid could fall apart.

 

The intent is to show opposition to Johnson's bid for reelection as speaker.

 

Republicans will maintain their slim majority in the House; they have won 219 seats so far with six races — five in California — yet to be called. Further, President-elect Donald Trump has tabbed at least three House Republicans for administration posts, meaning those seats, though solidly Republican, could still take months to fill.

 

In a Tuesday press conference, Johnson announced plans for Trump to meet with House Republicans on Wednesday morning before Trump meets with President Joe Biden at the White House.

 

Johnson can boast support from Trump and said Tuesday he expects to win the gavel on the first ballot in January. Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy needed 15 rounds over several days to win the speakership in January 2023.

 

Johnson only needs to beat back a challenger by majority vote in Wednesday's internal elections.

 

"I am [confident]. I'm talking with everyone," Johnson said Tuesday. "I think you'll have total unity in the party."

Prince Turki bin Faisal al-Saud, former Saudi ambassador to the United States, has written an open letter to President-elect Donald Trump asking him to “finish what you started the last time you occupied the White House” with respect to Middle Eastern affairs.

Prince Turki, who was the ambassador to the United States from 2005-2007 and also served as director of Saudi Arabia’s foreign intelligence service, buttered Trump up in the opening paragraph of his letter:

After your remarkable and outstanding victory in an election campaign marked by lawfare waged against you and a fear-inspiring verbal assault aimed at the American people warning them not to vote for you, you prevailed against those challenges and the American people gave you their trust and confidence to lead them to what you promised to give them, a better America. You also overturned the Senate majority from the other party to yours and brought your party within striking distance of a House majority.

I am gratified that the American election system worked so smoothly and decisively to determine the winners from the losers, unlike the contentious one before.

These facts give your friends and allies around the world the confidence that your leadership will be as decisive as the election results and put to rest the arguments of those who contend America is on the wane.

Having laid the groundwork by ticking off every box on the “How to Get Invited to Mar-a-Lago” checklist – his comment about the “contentious” 2020 election was an especially nice touch – Prince Turki asked Trump to direct his attention to the “hot spots” that surround Saudi Arabia in the Middle East. He noted those spots were a good deal cooler before President Joe Biden took office.

“When you left in January 2021, there was no war in Gaza, Iran and Israel were not firing missiles at each other, the Houthis were not interdicting shipping in Bab Al Mandab, there was no civil war in Sudan,” Turki pointed out.

The Saudi prince’s tone became a little rougher when discussing Israel’s campaign against the terrorists of Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon – a war the de facto ruler of Saudi Arabia, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, denounced as “genocide” on Tuesday.

“Although Israel has decapitated the leadership of both Hamas and Hezbollah, the latter are still capable of killing Israeli soldiers and firing projectiles and other ordinance at Israel,” Turki said, handling the matter a bit more delicately than his crown prince, although he slipped in a jab at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu by calling him a warmonger.

Turki added the Gaza and Lebanon wars to the “bloodbath” in Ukraine to make the case that the world is “in more turmoil” than when Trump last held office.

“I believe God spared your life not only to deal with the situation inside the United States, which faces enormous challenges for you to overcome, but, because America is what it is, to work with your friends in Saudi Arabia and other friends you have in the area, to pursue what you started before: to bring PEACE, with capital letters, to the Middle East,” he told Trump.

Kyiv officials say Russia has deployed around 50,000 troops to Kursk in a bid to dislodge the Ukrainians.

Jack Smith Plans to Step Down as Special Counsel Before Trump Takes Office

The prosecutor who investigated and charged Donald J. Trump plans to finish his report and leave the job before he can be fired.

Jack Smith, the special counsel who pursued two federal prosecutions of Donald J. Trump, plans to finish his work and resign along with other members of his team before Mr. Trump takes office in January, people familiar with his plans said.

Mr. Smith’s goal, they said, is to not leave any significant part of his work for others to complete and to get ahead of the president-elect’s promise to fire him within “two seconds” of being sworn in.

Mr. Smith, who since taking office two years ago has operated under the principle that not even a powerful ex-president is above the law, now finds himself on the defensive as he rushes to wind down a pair of complex investigations slowed by the courts and ultimately made moot by Mr. Trump’s electoral victory.

Mr. Smith’s office is still drawing up its plan for how to end the cases, and it is possible that unforeseen circumstances — such as judicial rulings or decisions by other government officials — could alter his intended timeline. But Mr. Smith is trying to finish his work and leave before Mr. Trump returns to power, the people familiar with his plans said.

The election’s outcome spelled the end of the federal cases against Mr. Trump, since Justice Department policy has long held that a sitting president cannot be prosecuted for crimes. A Supreme Court ruling this summer significantly expanded the scope of official presidential conduct that cannot be prosecuted even after leaving office.

As he prepares for his last act as special counsel, Mr. Smith’s ultimate audience will not be a jury, but the public.

Department regulations call for him to file a report summarizing his investigation and decisions — a document that may stand as the final accounting from a prosecutor who filed extensive charges against a former president but never got his cases to trial.

It is not clear how quickly he can finish this work, leaving uncertain whether it could be made public before the Biden administration leaves office. But several officials said he has no intention of lingering any longer than he has to, and has told career prosecutors and F.B.I. agents on his team who are not directly involved in that process that they can start planning their departures over the next few weeks, people close to the situation said.

The people spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss personnel moves.

Mr. Smith, a former war crimes prosecutor, is now a target of pro-Trump Republicans who portray him as the embodiment of a Democratic effort to use “lawfare,” the so-called weaponization of the Justice Department, to destroy Mr. Trump.

On Friday, Republican lawmakers told Justice Department officials who had worked on the Trump cases to preserve all of their communications for investigators. That is a sure sign that a new balance of power in Washington will make Mr. Smith among those being hunted by congressional investigators and others.

That same day, Mr. Smith’s team filed a court document taking the first step to wind down his two-pronged prosecution of Mr. Trump. The prosecutor asked for and received a monthlong pause to the filing deadlines in his case in Washington charging Mr. Trump with conspiring to overturn the 2020 election.

Mr. Smith said he needed until Dec. 2 to decide exactly how to wind down that case and his other Trump prosecution, in which Mr. Trump has been charged with mishandling classified national security documents after leaving office and obstructing efforts to retrieve them. The documents case was dismissed by Judge Aileen Cannon of the Federal District Court in Fort Pierce, Fla. That decision is currently being appealed in federal court in Atlanta.

Referring to the fact that the defendant would soon take office again as president, Mr. Smith said in Friday’s filing that he needed a month “to assess this unprecedented circumstance and determine the appropriate course going forward consistent with Department of Justice policy.”

The type of special counsel report being prepared by Mr. Smith and his team is technically supposed to be directed to the attorney general.

Attorney General Merrick B. Garland has repeatedly signaled he intends to release such reports to the public, although with some redactions to comply with broader department rules.

In some cases, the findings contained in special counsel reports can be revelatory. In February, the special counsel Robert K. Hur’s report concluded that criminal charges were not warranted for President Biden for retaining classified documents from his time as vice president, but offered a unflattering assessment of Mr. Biden’s memory and cognitive capacity.

Justice Department regulations require a special counsel’s report to explain why the prosecutor decided to file the charges they did, and why they decided not to file any other charges they considered.

But like much of Mr. Smith’s work involving Mr. Trump, this step is fraught with both technical and practical challenges that could make the report significantly different — and shorter — from the lengthy tomes produced by other recent special counsels. It also unlikely to contain much in the way of new or revelatory disclosures.

Mr. Smith, who has been the subject of round-the-clock protection after receiving death threats since taking over, has already described much of the evidence and legal theories behind the election obstruction indictment. Since he filed two separate and lengthy indictments last year against Mr. Trump, he has supplemented that record with scores of court filings elaborating on the allegations.

One potential wrinkle for the filing and release of Mr. Smith’s report is that it may have to undergo a careful review by U.S. intelligence agencies for any classified information. That can be a lengthy process. Intelligence agencies took weeks to review Mr. Hur’s report.

But in the case of Mr. Smith’s final report, most of that vetting has already been done, so officials expect that step to take little time.

The big question now, assuming Mr. Smith finishes the report on his current schedule, is whether Mr. Garland will release the findings before he leaves office, or defer the release to the Trump team, which might not make its contents public.

A spokeswoman for Mr. Garland declined to comment.

I just think people of this nation and other nations should imagine what can be instead of what they have been shown. The industrial revolution was a fabulous time for that and while corrupt horrible people did take advantage of that, perhaps that lesson can be learned from. i don't even really all that mind ai art depending on how it is used. I am also a traditional artist although I do like digital art and use programs to make memes. Art is always about deconstruction in some ways and then spitting something out. I think depending on how much work you put into the prompt and to get it to look right also matters, inpainting editing that sorta thing. It needs to be a choice like you said, and I am not ok with digital ID being a requirement, because being anon is important also. LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — On Tuesday, Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced a new state employee pay plan that she said will "streamline career tracks, consolidate job titles, and bring state employee pay up to labor market rates."

 

The governor made the announcement from the State Capitol in Little Rock, where she pointed to four key career paths that will be the beneficiary of the pay raise — correctional officers, social services, state police, and nursing.

 

Here's a breakdown of how the governor intends to increase salaries within those respective fields:

 

Correctional officers: Average entry-level salaries will increase by 35.3%, from $37,589 to $50,845, and average salaries will increase by 17.1%, from $50,461 to $59,100.

Social services:Average entry-level salaries will increase by 20.5%, from $44,172 to $52,442, and average salaries will increase by 15.3%, from $48,733 to $55,364.

State Police:Average entry-level salaries will increase by 19.8%, from $56,498 to $67,706, and average salaries will increase by 10.4%, from $73,318 to $80,930.

Nursing:Average entry-level salaries will increase by 8.3%, from $51,032 to $54,661, and average salaries will increase by 9.6%, from $57,686 to $61,552.

In order to establish this new state employee pay plan, the governor said that she had to take the existing plan "down to its studs" to incentivize Arkansans to apply for hard-to-fill essential positions.

 

“We took the existing pay plan down to its studs to rebuild a compensation system that rewards hard work and encourages Arkansans to apply to our most hard-to-fill positions," Gov. Sanders said. "I look forward to working with the legislature to pass this plan and deliver these long overdue reforms for our state employees.”

 

According to Gov. Sanders, the proposed pay plan would raise wages for 14,539 state employees in Arkansas and target career fields that are facing chronic shortages — this includes the aforementioned correctional officers, social services, state police, and nursing fields.

 

The governor said that this new pay plan will also consolidate around 2,200 current jobs titles into roughly 800 "proposed job titles that match their equivalent in the private labor force."

 

According to a press release, the governor's balanced budget will reflect the updated pay plan, which is expected to be presented in full this November.

 

"The updated pay plan will be included in the Governor’s balanced budget, which will be presented in full later this month. The total cost will be just over $102 million with nearly $60 million coming from General Revenue and the rest coming from other sources. Much of this cost will be absorbed by existing funding, due to salary savings and existing vacancies," Gov. Sanders said in a press release.

 

This new pay plan is part of the Governor’s broader Arkansas Forward initiative.If passed, it would go into effect in July of 2025.

Many American voters may have assumed that since Trump got elected the world would go back to becoming normal due to his more diplomatic foreign policy approach. Well we could be very wrong, and this is the time to be as vigilant as ever and be well prepared for a major, perhaps long-term, crisis.

 

The government of Iran has reportedly issued another Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM) clearing its air space on certain dates for "rocket launches."

 

According to information I received last night, Iran has ordered the clearing of its air space beginning November 18, and continuing through November 20.

 

This is significant for several reasons:

 

First, It is well known that Iran intends to retaliate against Israel for the Israeli attack a little over two weeks ago.

 

Second, Iran itself said they will retaliate against Israel "after the US Election but before Trump is sworn-in."

 

Third, Iran issued warnings to the residents of Haifa and Tel Aviv over this past weekend, giving them "one week to evacuate those cities" while military guys blustered they were going to "remove Israel from the map."

 

It is worthwhile to recap how this tit-for-tat military attack situation developed.

 

Iran’s consulate in Damascus was destroyed in an Israeli missile attack which resulted in the killing of 13 people including top IRGC commander Major General Mohammad Reza Zahedi and his deputy.

 

Israel has long targeted Iran’s military installations in Syria but this attack marked the first time it had targeted the diplomatic compound itself. Iran pledged to respond.

 

April 13, 2024 – Iran launches 300 missiles, drones towards Israel. Nearly two weeks after the deadly strike on the Iranian consulate in Syria, Iran launched a barrage of missiles and drones targeting Israel. This was the first time that Iran had fired missiles directly into Israeli territory.

It was later revealed that Israeli Mossad had a Bomb planted in the building, which was remote detonated once Haniyeh was inside.

 

Haniyeh was in Tehran to attend the inauguration ceremony of Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian the day before.

 

Hamas’s armed wing, the Qassam Brigades, said Haniyeh’s killing had taken the war with Israel to a “new level” and warned of “enormous consequences for the entire region”.

October 2 – Iranian missiles strike Israel.

 

Iran said it fired approximately 180 ballistic missiles in response to Israeli assassinations of top Hamas, Hezbollah and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) leaders. It claimed it had used a hypersonic missile against Israel for the first time.

As all of the above events were unfolding, Russia announced to the world "Russia will NOT allow its main ally in the Middle East and fellow BRICS+ member, Iran, to be defeated and destroyed!"

 

Russia told the US and Israel, quietly, that it will step in if the West goes too far in the coming regional war…

 

That same day, China told the world "If Iran and its allies are attacked by the United States, we will take countermeasures."

 

The United States has made clear to everyone it will "defend" Israel.

 

So this ongoing situation between Israel and Iran is extremely dangerous, because it could pull-in the three most powerful, nuclear-armed nations on this planet. And it can happen fast. So fast, in fact, that everyone would be blind-sided.

BE PREPARED.

Have emergency food, water, medicines you need to live on for at least 30 days. A way to cook if electric or gas supplies are out; a Generator for electric or Barbecue Grill will full propane tank(s), or a "Rocket Stove" or "Solar Oven" - those last two being very inexpensive and easy to use.

 

Have a generator to keep your refrigerator running, and fuel for that generator. (Do NOT operate a generator inside your home. Their engines give off Carbon Monoxide gas which can KILL you if that gas fills you home while the generator is running.)

 

Have flashlights in each room of the house, or one for each family member, and spare batteries for those lights.

 

Have a portable AM/FM radio for news and information, and spare batteries for that radio.

 

Have a first-aid kit for small injuries or, God forbid, war wounds.

 

Have some CASH MONEY. If an attack happens here, the credit and debit card networks can go down and all those plastic cards we have in our wallets will be useless because there is no network through which to get authorizations on those cards. So having CASH MONEY will assure you can buy food, gasoline, etc. Since no one in their right mind will take Checks during a war scenario, cash will be king. Those who have it, will eat. Those who don't, won't.

 

We've all got a few days to get ready just in case. Use this time wisely to prepare.

 

One last thing, we have ALL seen the images and videos of stores with shelves wiped clean as people panic DURING a hurricane, earthquake, etc. That happens because the general public are "the masses who are asses." They don't stop to think to prepare. When something bad happens, they panic, run out and buy stuff, and the stores get wiped out within a couple hours. Those who come later, find empty store shelves.

If you look at the structure of the announcements, there does appear to be a strategy at play; yes, including the likelihood of Marco Rubio as Secretary of State.

 

Using the announcement of Steven C. Witkoff to be Special Envoy to the Middle East, I’ll try to put it together.

 

If President Trump pulls Marco Rubio out of the Senate, he opens up the position of Chair of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence (SSCI)…

 

…this also opens the opportunity for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to appoint an interim senator who would be more MAGA-minded, trustworthy and loyal (dare I say Gaetz)…

 

With Rubio removed from the equation of the IC problem, the issue becomes mitigating (think neutering) the Secretary of State from undermining the Trump Doctrine; which, as you know, is the key Trump foreign policy approach using economic power combined with diplomacy.

 

President Trump constrains Rubio in the mid-east by putting Steven C. Witkoff as Special Envoy to the Middle East. Essentially, neutering any intervention that might be launched by the IC agenda supported by the neocon wing of Rubio. Trump does this directly from the White House.

 

That puts Rubio’s role as Secretary of State focused on Europe and Asia, both regions where President Trump has already outlined the benefits of the Trump Doctrine in creating a peace deal in Ukraine and economically neutering Chinese aggression (like he did in North Korea).

 

While many of us do not like the thought of Rubio as Secretary of State, the value in removing Rubio from the SSCI is quite significant.

Can Trump Issue an Executive order banning lobbyists from all interaction with the House and Senate. Thats is the cause of corruption central and why Congress passes laws for trillions of dollars while the senators and congressmen and the families get huge kickbacks. The Budget is busted by this. Many of these people have never had a non government job. Kamala never had a job, she's always worked for the government, like many others.
