US opposes term ‘Russian aggression’ in high-profile statements – media

The reported pursuit of softer wording marks a stark shift in Washington’s stance

The US isobjecting to the term ‘Russian aggression’ in the upcoming G7 statementmarking the third anniversary of the start of the Ukraine conflict, the Financial Times reported on Thursday, citing Western officials familiar with the matter.

The Group of Seven, comprising the US, UK, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, and Japan, have traditionally issued declarations of support for Ukraine since the conflict escalated on February 24, 2022, routinely using terms such as Russia’s “war of aggression” and “unprovoked full-scale invasion.”

However, according to the FT’s sources, US envoys are now advocatingfor softer language, proposing references to the “Ukraine conflict”rather than explicitly naming Russia as the ‘aggressor’.

Washington’s reported objections to the usual phrasing follow Wednesday’s remarks by US President Donald Trump, who blamed the conflict on Kiev and described Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky as a “dictator without elections.” Zelensky responded by accusing Trump of being trapped in a Russian “disinformation bubble.”

The US is also refusing to co-sponsor a draft UN resolution set for February 24 which also condemns ‘Russian aggression’, Reuters reports, citing sources. This marks a stark shift by Ukraine’s most powerful Western ally and highlights a widening rift between Zelensky and Trump, the news agency said.

Earlier this week, the US and Russia held a high-level diplomatic meeting in Saudi Arabia, aiming to lay the groundwork for a peace settlement in Ukraine and restoring dialogue between Moscow and Washington.

Following the talks, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that the Russian and American delegations “not only listened but also heard each other.”

Russia has argued that the Ukraine conflict was provoked by NATO expansion towards its borders, Kiev’s aspirations to join the US-led military alliance, and Ukraine’s policies toward the Russian-speaking Donbass region.

Trump and US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth have since downplayed the likelihood of membership for Kiev as an outcome of a peace settlement.

Trump also suggested last week that Russia should be readmitted into the G7.The country joined the group in 1998, making it the G8, and remained a member until 2014. The group suspended Moscow’s membership in March of that year after Crimea voted to join the country in a referendum, which the West claimed was an illegal annexation.

Chilean-American filmmaker and blogger Gonzalo Lira died in a Ukrainian jail in January 2024 while awaiting trial for “systematically justifying the Russian aggression.”

“Zelensky killed an American journalist!” Musk wrote on his social media platform X on Wednesday.

Zelensky’s five-year presidential term expired in May 2024, and no new elections were called due to martial law. Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that he no longer considers Zelensky a legitimate leader. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed recently that Moscow wants the issue of Zelensky’s legitimacy to be addressed during future peace talks.

France leaves another military base in Africa

The move in Ivory Coast comes just a week after Paris agreed to withdraw troops from neighboring Senegal by the end of the year

The Port-Bouet military camp, near the capital, Abidjan, had previously hosted the 43rd French Marine Infantry Battalion (43e BIMa). On Thursday, it was returned to the Ivorian Army at a ceremony attended by French Armed Forces Minister Sebastien Lecornu and his Ivorian counterpart, Tene Birahima Ouattara.

The French mission in the African country announced the move in a post on X, calling it a “historic moment for Franco-Ivorian cooperation.”

“It is a very strong symbolic sequence with the retrocession of this camp to the Ivorian armies. This is being done in exemplary conditions, in full coherence and in full maturity of our relationship,” AFP also quoted Colonel Damien Mireval, the French defense attaché in Abidjan, as saying.

The camp will reportedly be renamed after Thomas Aquinas Ouattara, the first chief of staff of the Ivorian Army.

President Ouattara first announced the withdrawal of approximately 600 French soldiers from his country during his year-end address in December, claiming that the decision is intended to modernize the national armed forces.

Ivorian Defense Minister Birahima Ouattara told French broadcaster RFI in an interview published on Tuesday that the “military cooperation continues with France,” focused on intelligence and training support from the French government.

BLINDSIDED Ukraine ‘blinds 8 Russian drone operators using goggles booby-trapped with explosives in pager bomb-style plot’

UKRAINE has reportedly blinded eight Russian drone operators in a sophisticated operation using explosive military goggles.

Zelensky’s troops are thought to have booby-trapped headsets used to operate UAVs via a mysterious volunteer group in a plot similar to the Israeli pager blitz carried out by the IDF.

The apparent sabotage mission caught Putin’s drone troops off-guard as the glasses were reportedly rigged to blow up when turned on.

Both the Russian and Ukrainian armies have relied on donations as they rush to replenish frontline supplies.

Dozens of goggle explosions have been reported by troops since mid-February, according to defence site Militarnyi.

Around 80 sets of Skyzone Cobra FPV goggles were donated to different units of Putin’s army by an NGO this year, it was reported.

Each group is said to have received the items for free from the same organisation.

The first headset explosion was reported on February 4, when a pair detonated while on an operator's face.

Seven more blasts were then reported over the next three days in the Kursk, Donetsk, and Luhansk areas.

Some of these goggles, however, were intercepted and inspected by Russian forces, where they made a shocking discovery.

A video shows the military goggles being taken apart to reveal a white powder.

Around 10 to 15 grams of plastic explosives were allegedly found inside these glasses.

Vlad’s men claimed these goggles were altered to add a remote detonation feature that would blow up when used to cause maximum damage.

Kyiv has been accused of capitalising on these donations to catch out Russian soldiers when they least expect it, but Ukraine is yet to confirm this.

The attacks resembled the pager bombs Israel carried out on Hezbollah fighters last year - leaving at least nine dead and over 2,000 injured.

Militants were caught out by pagers that secretly included a battery filled with explosives.

These stealthy detonators were even built to go undetected through X-rays and all the pagers were programmed to blow at the same time.

Israeli Mossad forces even circulated fake online stories to deceive Hezbollah about these deadly pagers' larger-than-usual size.

At least 9 people were killed and around 3,000 injured when several pagers exploded simultaneously in Lebanon, in September 2024.

SNEAKY SURPRISE

This has not been the first time Ukraine has reportedly used booby traps to catch out Russian invaders.

An apparent Ukrainian assassin planted a bomb in an e-scooter that killed a top Russian general.

Incredible footage caught the moment the scooter exploded outside a central Moscow block of flats.

General Igor Kirillov, 54, died after this bomb as he and his assistant Ilya Polikarpov left the apartment building.

Around 200g of TNT stuck to the scooter is believed to have been detonated remotely.

SHOCK DEVELOPMENTS

Donald Trump has ignited a dramatic and surprise feud between the US and Ukraine.

The US President branded Zelenksy a "dictator" while attempting to negotiate peace talks with Russia and without Ukraine.

Those of us anxious to see peace in Ukraine should applaud President Trump’s initiative but we should also highlight the glaring contradictions of a president who finds the killing in Ukraine unacceptable but fully supports the genocide in Palestine.

As we approach the third anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, a monumental shift is taking place that might just lead to the end of this calamitous war. This is not a breakthrough on the battlefield, but a stark reversal of the U.S. position from being the major supplier of weapons and funding to prolong the war to one of peacemaker.

Donald Trump promised to end the war in Ukraine if he was re-elected as president. On February 12th, he started to make good on that promise by holding a 90-minute call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, whom Biden had refused to talk to since the war began. They agreed that they were ready to begin peace negotiations “immediately,” and Trump then called President Zelenskyy and spent an hour discussing the conditions for what Zelenskyy called a “lasting and reliable peace.”

At the same time, the new U.S. Defense Secretary, Pete Hegseth, unveiled Trump’s new policy in more detail at a meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group at NATO Headquarters in Brussels, saying, “The bloodshed must stop. And this war must end.”

There are two parts to the new policy that Hegseth announced. First, he said that Trump “intends to end this war by diplomacy and bringing both Russia and Ukraine to the table.” Secondly, he said that the United States is handing off the prime responsibility for arming Ukraine and guaranteeing its future security to the European members of NATO.

Assigning Europe the role of security guarantor is a transparent move to shield the U.S. from ongoing responsibility for a war that it played a major role in provoking and prolonging by scuttling previous negotiations. If the Europeans will not accept their assigned role in Trump’s plan, or President Zelenskyy or Putin reject it, the United States may yet have to play a larger role in security guarantees for Ukraine than Trump or many Americans would like. Zelenskyy told the Guardian on February 11th that, for Ukraine, “Security guarantees without America are not real security guarantees.”

After blocking peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in April 2022, the Biden administration rejected peace negotiations over Ukraine for nearly three years. Biden insisted that Ukraine must recover all of its internationally recognized territory, including the Crimea and Donbas regions that separated from Ukraine after the U.S.-backed coup in Kyiv in 2014.

Hegseth opened the door to peace by clearly and honestly telling America’s European allies, “…we must start by recognizing that returning to Ukraine's pre-2014 borders is an unrealistic objective. Chasing this illusionary goal will only prolong the war and cause more suffering.”

Spelling out the U.S. plan in more detail, Hegseth went on by saying that a "durable peace for Ukraine must include robust security guarantees to ensure that the war will not begin again. This must not be Minsk 3.0. That said, the United States does not believe that NATO membership for Ukraine is a realistic outcome of a negotiated settlement. Instead any security guarantee must be backed by capable European and non-European troops.”

A bombshell piece of information was revealed at the September 14-15, 2021 virtual Zoom meeting of the federal government’s ICD-10 Coordination and Maintenance Committee (which includes representatives from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, known as CMS, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) National Center for Health Statistics). At the meeting, the Committee discussed new categories of “ICD-10” codes that the CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) wanted to create to mark people as “Unvaccinated for COVID-19,” “Partially Vaccinated for COVID-19” and “Other underimmunization status.”

The ICD-10 coding system was created by the World Health Organization (WHO) and doctors are required to use it to categorize different kinds of patients. The ICD-10 codes are preserved in a patient’s electronic health record and used by insurance companies for billing purposes. The CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics maintains the ICD-10 codes. Within ICD-10 codes, there is a category known as “ICD-10-CM” codes (which are reportedly used by the CDC for tracking purposes), and this “CM” category includes the new “Unvaccinated for COVID-19” category and also the “Partially Vaccinated For COVID-19” category and the “other underimmunization status” category.

The agreement could reportedly be part of a broader accord negotiated directly with Chinese President Xi Jinping

US President Donald Trump is seeking to strike a broad agreement with China that includes nuclear weapons security, the New York Times reported on Wednesday, citing White House advisers.

According to the NYT,the desired deal would extend beyond trade relations, incorporating substantial Chinese investments and commitments to purchase more American goods. It should also address nuclear security - an issue Trump intends to discuss personally with Chinese President Xi Jinping, “more than half a dozen” current and former Trump advisers told the outlet.

Michael Pillsbury, a China expert who advised Trump during his first-term trade negotiations, told the NYT thatTrump had shared with him “a few months ago” his desire to secure a deal with Xi “that benefits both sides.”

Significant obstacles remain, according to the advisers, particularly as the Trump administration has yet to clearly define what it wants from Beijing.

China remains one of the ”biggest national security threats” to the US but is also a major trading partner and a pivotal actor on a range of issues, including nuclear security, technology and pandemic preparedness.

The Pentagon has said recently that China is the main defense priority for the US, describing it as a “peer competitor” with both the capability and intent to threaten US national interests in the Indo-Pacific region.

Last week, Trump told reporters at the White House he had proposed talks with China and Russia to discuss reducing all three nations’ nuclear stockpiles and cutting defense budgets in half.He said he hoped to meet with Xi and Russian President Vladimir Putin “when things calm down.”

According to the NYT, some Chinese analysts have downplayed the likelihood of a deal as the country’s officials remain cautious about Trump and expect tensions to continue.However, they’ve been reportedly working on a proposal that could bring the US president back to the table.

Relations between the two countries worsened during Trump’s first term, escalating into a trade war, after he imposed billions in tariffs on Chinese goods in 2018, citing unfair trade practices and intellectual property theft. China retaliated with its own levies on American exports, deepening the standoff. In early 2020, both sides reached a Phase One trade deal, but many commitments fell short, partly due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Trump has recently imposed new tariffs on key trade partners, including a 10% duty on Chinese imports on top of existing levies. China strongly opposed the move, retaliating with tariffs on key US exports while urging Washington to return to negotiations.

Both China and Russia have expressed a willingness to collaborate with the US regarding nuclear disarmament. Beijing has reaffirmed its “no first use” policy in response to Trump’s reported proposal of future nuclear talks.

Russia’s deputy UN ambassador, Dmitry Polyansky, has said that substantive discussions on disarmament could restart if Washington shifts its stance.The last binding bilateral nuclear arms treaty between the US and Russia is set to expire next year.

Military pilot’s reported encounter with UFO: ‘This is going to sound weird’

A U.S. military pilot reportedly had a close encounter with an unidentified flying object.

Ben Hansen, host of the Discovery+ show “UFO Witness,” obtained the plane’s audio recording and shared it exclusively on “Banfield.”

In the recording, the pilot reports seeing a dark, football-sized object pass under the plane’s wing around 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 17, 2024, approximately 60 miles away.

The incident, involving a Homeland Security flight, occurred at 20,000 feet and likely involved a drug interdiction mission, Hansen said.

The object, described as cylindrical and dark, was detected by the aircraft’s radar.

Hansen explained that the plane, a Beechcraft 350 C, is equipped with a “very sensitive and complex radar array” used to track drug traffickers.

Hansen, a former FBI agent, noted the significance of the encounter, especially in controlled airspace and an area in which no air traffic was reported.

An air traffic controller later reported the sighting to the National UFO Reporting Center.

“There was some UFO reported here, but that’s all taken care of now, so you don’t have to worry about it, the air traffic controller said. “It was earlier, but it’s gone.”

Hansen said the object’s speed and altitude suggest it could not have been a drone, as it would have exceeded Mach 2 speeds in two minutes, which is beyond most drones’ capabilities.

UFO whistleblower sparks conversation

Much of the current conversation surrounding UFOs started when David Grusch came forward last year with his claims that the government was operating a secret program dedicated to retrieving crashed UAPs, or unidentified anomalous phenomena, and was in possession of nonhuman craft and biological remains of nonhuman beings.

The Department of Defense has denied these allegations.

Still, they sparked a 2023 congressional hearing on the subject — the first in more than 50 years — at which Grusch testified with former Navy pilot Ryan Graves and Navy Commander David Fravor.

Fravor spoke about his experience encountering a UAP. Both Graves and Fravor said they were concerned about the risks UAPs pose to the military, regardless of origin.

Lawmakers asked about the secret program referenced by Grusch, and eventually, the hearing led to the formation of a bipartisan UFO Caucus, informally led by Rep. Tim Burchett, R-Tenn.

An official report issued by the Pentagon from the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office found no evidence of a secret program.

Furthermore, it said the government has no evidence that UAPs are extraterrestrial in origin.

However, the Defense Department did admit to a proposed program known as Kona Blue, which was developed to reverse-engineer any alien technology recovered by the government.

This never got off the ground, the DOD said, as no such technology was ever located.

NASA, in a report of its own, said there is no evidence of extraterrestrial contact with Earth, though the agency said more rigorous research in the area and less stigma around the topic as a whole are needed.

British Prime Minister immediately offered Volodymyr Zelensky affirmation over his democratic status after President Trump blasted Ukraine for cancelling its elections and enforcing martial law on its citizens.

Sir Keir Starmer spoke to Ukrainian President Zelensky overnight, with his Downing Street office revealing the Prime Minister had told the Ukrainian he is not a dictator and that it had been “perfectly reasonable” to suspend democracy because of the Russian invasion.

These remarks likely come as part of a strategy of pre-positioning by the United States ahead of the coming U.S.-Russia peace talks, and the United Kingdom government was fast to counter-signal against them. Downing Street said of Starmer’s call with Zelensky: “The prime minister spoke to President Zelenskyy this evening and stressed the need for everyone to work together. Hamas Offers To Release All Remaining Israeli Hostages in Exchange for a Permanent Ceasefire

Hamas also rejected Israel's calls for it to be disarmed and removed from Gaza

On Wednesday, Hamas offered to release all remaining Israeli hostages in exchange for a permanent ceasefire and full Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.

Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem made the offer in a statement outlining the Palestinian group’s conditions for a second phase of the ceasefire deal.

“We are ready for a second phase in which the prisoners will be exchanged in one go, within the criterion of reaching an agreement that leads to a permanent ceasefire and a complete withdrawal from the Strip,” Qassem said, according to Al Jazeera.

The Times of Israel reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s demands for the second phase include Hamas being disarmed and removed from Gaza, which Qassem rejected. Netanyahu also wants the Palestinian Authority not to be involved in Gaza.

“The occupation’s condition of removing Hamas from the Gaza Strip is a ridiculous psychological war, and the withdrawal or disarmament of the resistance from Gaza is unacceptable,” Qassem said.

Hamas is releasing six Israeli hostages on Saturday, twice the amount initially agreed to under the ceasefire deal. Qassem said Hamas was doubling the number of prisoners to be released “in response to a request from the mediators and to prove our seriousness in implementing all the terms of the agreement.”

On Thursday, Palestinian Islamic Jihad will release the body of one Israeli captive, and Hamas will release three bodies, including Kfir and Ariel Bibas, who were only aged four and nine months when kidnapped during the October 7 attack on southern Israel. Hamas said in November 2023 that the Bibas children and their mother were killed by an Israeli airstrike in Gaza.

The Mujahideen Brigades, the armed wing of the Palestinian Mujahideen Movement that operates separately from Hamas, said that it has been “preserving” the bodies of the Bibas family and confirmed they would be released on Thursday.

Amid the negotiations for the second phase of the ceasefire, Israel continues to kill Palestinians in Gaza. Palestinian security sources told Al Jazeera on Tuesday that since the truce went into effect on January 19, Israel had violated the ceasefire 266 times, killing 132 Palestinians.

An Israeli minister has said that removing Palestinians from Gaza would rely on force rather than so-called "voluntary migration".

Likud Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi called the scheme a “deportation plan” in an online post on Tuesday, attacking attorney general Gali Baharav-Miara for allegedly demanding a legal review of the plan.

DOGE discovered $2 billion in taxpayer funds set aside for a fledgling nonprofit linked to perennial Georgia Democratic candidate Stacey Abrams.

The Environmental Protection Agency under the Biden administration awarded Power Forward Communities the grant in April 2024 as part of the agency's Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund program. Power Forward Communities received the green energy grant despite the fact that it was founded months earlier in late 2023 and never managed anywhere near the grant's dollar figure—it reported just $100 in total revenue during its first three months in operation, according to its latest tax filings.

Power Forward Communities' grant was one of just eight Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund grants that the EPA doled out in April 2024 and that, altogether, totaled $20 billion. EPA administrator Lee Zeldin announced on Feb. 13 that his staff and Department of Government Efficiency officials discovered that the Biden administration parked that same $20 billion at an outside financial institution before leaving office, limiting the federal government's oversight of the program.

The revelation that Power Forward Communities is among the beneficiaries of the funds Zeldin's team located raises ethics questions about how the Biden administration selected recipients of such massive grants and whether it played favorites when doling those grants out. Abrams was a vocal proponent of the Biden administration's green energy agenda and campaigned for former vice president Kamala Harris.

It also appears to validate concerns expressed for years by Republicans that Biden administration allies would prop up organizations that were specifically designed to receive federal funding under programs like the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund, which was created to operate as a "green bank" by Democrats' behemoth Inflation Reduction Act of 2022.

"I made a commitment to members of Congress and to the American people to be a good steward of tax dollars and I’ve wasted no time in keeping my word," Zeldin told the Washington Free Beacon. "When we learned about the Biden Administration’s scheme to quickly park $20 billion outside the agency, we suspected that some organizations were created out of thin air just to take advantage of this."

"As we continue to learn more about where some of this money went, it is even more apparent how far-reaching and widely accepted this waste and abuse has been," the EPA administrator continued. "It’s extremely concerning that an organization that reported just $100 in revenue in 2023 was chosen to receive $2 billion. That’s 20 million times the organization’s reported revenue."

Power Forward Communities and Abrams did not respond to requests for comment.

Power Forward Communities was established in October 2023 as a coalition of groups led by Rewiring America, a left-wing group that advocates for electrification policies and a transition away from fossil fuel dependence. Abrams, who serves as Rewiring America's senior counsel, said at the time that she was "thrilled" to be part of the Power Forward Communities coalition. "This is how we expand access to clean energy—by prioritizing housing, equity and resilience," she wrote in an X post.

According to its website, Power Forward Communities is the first nationwide program to finance home energy efficiency upgrades at scale. The group states that its mission is to assist homeowners, developers, and renters with home upgrades replacing gas-powered appliances like a traditional stovetop with electric appliances like an induction stovetop.

A rather confusing video is heavily circulating on social media, where an unidentified object in the night sky went viral and ended up sparking the ‘aliens and UFO Sightings’ debate.

Here’s what the video showed and here’s how the internet reacted to it…

The internet was left divided- yet again- over a matter that was hardly fictional just until a few years ago; aliens and UFOs.

Not that now their existence has suddenly been confirmed or such, but multiple UFO sightings and eerie viral videos have surely become a thing in the past few years, fueling multiple conspiracy theories and support over the belief that aliens exist.

Expanding the dilemma with another clip, a video was recently shared on social media, which was allegedly recorded in Denver.

The confusing video showed an unidentified object- that looked rather massive- hovering around in the night sky.

After a while, the object began to emit a bright green light, which only increased the camera person's curiosity over the object- which many also speculated to be a drone. The exact date and the authenticity of the video could not be confirmed.

“Cloaked UFO/UAP captured in Denver, CO,” the post read. The post was shared on Reddit, by the handle ‘srinionstrike’. The post was shared yesterday and pulled more than 2K views from people.

The video, soon after getting shared, pulled all kinds of reactions. Most found the incident scary, while some speculated it was a drone.

Many also recalled similar instances and narrated their own versions. A few denied the existence of aliens and UFOs, while the rest were shocked by the clip.

“Saw this 10 years ago while living in Denver with a friend after getting out of the car to walk inside. Specifically green light on a cloudy night. F*cking wild. It was just like this.

I have to laugh at how crazy this all is. It’s happening. Who and what it is, idk, but it’s wild,” a user said.

“Interesting footage, thank you for sharing,” added a second person.

“This is exactly what happened to me. Same cloaking mechanism and when it noticed me noticing it, it flashed me with that light but it was only for a couple of seconds. Like straight at me and me only.

Turns off light, goes back into the cloak and you can see the outline of whatever the f*ck it was as it zooms off in restricted airspace,” added another.

In its only press release to date, Power Forward Communities said that, in addition to induction stoves, it would use the $2 billion received from the EPA to help install heat pumps, heat pump water heaters, solar panels, home battery systems, EV chargers, and weatherization upgrades.

"For an organization that has no experience in this, that was literally just established, and had $100 in the bank to receive a $2 billion grant—it doesn't just fly in the face of common sense, it's out and out fraud," Daniel Turner, the executive director of energy advocacy group Power the Future, alleged in an interview with the Free Beacon.

Power Forward Communities lists a large number of partners on its website that it works with to implement its mission. Among its partners are the Southern Economic Advancement Project and Fair Count, two left-wing nonprofits founded by Abrams in the wake of her 2018 Georgia gubernatorial election defeat.

The Southern Economic Advancement Project, which seeks to boost racial equity and "economic power" in the South, is a fiscally sponsored project of the Tides Center, a group known for giving millions of dollars to left-wing environmental and social activist organizations, according to Influence Watch.

Power Forward Communities' list of partners also includes the American Federation of Teachers and the AFL-CIO, two powerful Democratic-aligned labor unions.

American Federation of Teachers president Randi Weingarten and Abrams both serve on the national advisory board for Climate Power, which helped launch a $55 million advertising campaign in September in support of Kamala Harris's presidential campaign.

"President Trump was elected with a mandate from the American people to stop the fraud and abuse by leaders who irresponsibly shoveled boat loads of cash to far-left, activist groups in the name of environmental justice and climate equity, instead of serving the American people," Zeldin said. "Those days are over."

Shortly before leaving office, Biden's EPA parked the $20 billion located by Zeldin's team and DOGE officials in an account at Citibank. While the eight recipients of the funding—which, in addition to Power Forward Communities, includes groups like Climate United Fund, the Coalition for Green Capital, Inclusiv, and Justice Climate Fund—have only tapped into a small slice of the funding so far, the arrangement restricts the Trump administration's ability to claw the funds back, though Zeldin has made retrieving the funds a priority.

Western leaders back Zelensky amid war of words with Trump

The US president has called the Ukrainian leader a “dictator” over his refusal to hold elections

European leaders, including those from the UK, Germany, and the Czech Republic, have rallied behind Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky after US President Donald Trump described him as a “dictator without elections.”

In a post on his Truth Social platform on Wednesday, the Republican accused the Ukrainian leader of mismanaging the conflict with Russia and misusing American financial aid. Trump went on to claim that Zelensky “refuses to have elections” and “is very low in Ukrainian polls.”

Trump’s post was apparently sparked by an accusation from Zelensky that the US president was in a “Russian information bubble.”

Zelensky’s five-year presidential term expired in May 2024 and he has refused to hold elections since, citing martial law. Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stated that he does not consider Zelensky to be the legitimate head of the Ukrainian state any longer.

Commenting on Trump’s remark, Czech President Petr Pavel wrote in a post on X on Wednesday that characterizing Zelensky as a dictator “requires a great deal of cynicism.” He also called into question the feasibility of holding elections in Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict with Russia.

British Prime Minister Kier Starmer’s office reported he had phoned Zelensky and expressed support for “Ukraine’s democratically elected leader.” The official similarly argued that “it was perfectly reasonable to suspend elections during war time,” citing Britain’s own practice during World War II.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz chimed in in a post on X on Wednesday, writing that “it is simply wrong and dangerous to deny President Zelensky democratic legitimacy.”

A very weird incident occurred last week on a local Fox News station that has people questioning whether or not aliens or a mysterious craft was spotted over the Mackinac Bridge.

The incident occurred as Fox 2 was preparing to go to a commercial with live footage of the Mackinac Bridge at night on the night of February 14.

As the anchor Erica Francis was about to leave for commercial, she ended with:

"Alan is going to break those events down for us. Coming up next…,”

it was then that she paused and completely switched topics noticing that there was a mysterious object with lights floating in the sky:

“What is that flying in the air? It’s a… It’s a UFO. All right, we’ll see you next.”

She was further baffled as soon as she said anything about the alleged UFO it seemed to give the fact that it zoomed off into the distance, once again shocking her.

“It’s a UFO, and now it disappeared.“

Taking a closer look at the video it looks like, from one perspective that the moment she mentions it being a UFO it zooms off into the distance in the background.

With a closer look at it, you see what appears to be some kind of craft with lights on it disappear into the clouds.

It’s important to point out that there is indeed a small airport on Mackinac Island, and it’s not uncommon that a plane could’ve taken off from the island right around that time, it’s just a strange coincidence that she mentioned it being a UFO and then it immediately disappeared.

(iv) regulations that implicate matters of social, political, or economic significance that are not authorized by clear statutory authority;

(v) regulations that impose significant costs upon private parties that are not outweighed by public benefits;

(vi) regulations that harm the national interest by significantly and unjustifiably impeding technological innovation, infrastructure development, disaster response, inflation reduction, research and development, economic development, energy production, land use, and foreign policy objectives; and

(vii) regulations that impose undue burdens on small business and impede private enterprise and entrepreneurship.

(b) In conducting the review required by subsection (a) of this section, agencies shall prioritize review of those rules that satisfy the definition of “significant regulatory action” in Executive Order 12866 of September 30, 1993 (Regulatory Planning and Review), as amended.

(c) Within 60 days of the date of this order, agency heads shall provide to the Administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) within the Office of Management and Budget a list of all regulations identified by class as listed in subsection (a) of this section.

(d) The Administrator of OIRA shall consult with agency heads to develop a Unified Regulatory Agenda that seeks to rescind or modify these regulations, as appropriate.

Sec. 3. Enforcement Discretion to Ensure Lawful Governance. (a) Subject to their paramount obligation to discharge their legal obligations, protect public safety, and advance the national interest, agencies shall preserve their limited enforcement resources by generally de-prioritizing actions to enforce regulations that are based on anything other than the best reading of a statute and de-prioritizing actions to enforce regulations that go beyond the powers vested in the Federal Government by the Constitution.

(b) Agency heads shall determine whether ongoing enforcement of any regulations identified in their regulatory review is compliant with law and Administration policy. To preserve resources and ensure lawful enforcement, agency heads, in consultation with the Director of the Office of Management and Budget, shall, on a case-by-case basis and as appropriate and consistent with applicable law, then direct the termination of all such enforcement proceedings that do not comply with the Constitution, laws, or Administration policy.

Sec. 4. Promulgation of New Regulations. Agencies shall continue to follow the processes set out in Executive Order 12866 for submitting regulations for review by OIRA. Additionally, agency heads shall consult with their DOGE Team Leads and the Administrator of OIRA on potential new regulations as soon as practicable. In evaluating potential new regulations, agency heads, DOGE Team Leads, and the Administrator of OIRA shall consider, in addition to the factors set out in Executive Order 12866, the factors set out in section 2(a) of this order.

Sec. 5. Implementation. The Director of the Office of Management and Budget shall issue implementation guidance, as appropriate.

Sec. 8. Severability. If any provision of this order, or the application of any provision to any person or circumstance, is held to be invalid, the remainder of this order and the application of its provisions to any other persons or circumstances shall not be affected thereby.

That the dozens of Israeli diplomats, legal officials, and political officials involved in preparing for fighting the genocide allegations against Israel before the ICJ did not have a simple job would be the understatement of the year.

Although all Israelis had a traumatic three months at the opening of the war, the Jerusalem Post understands that these officials, with one of the leaders being Deputy Attorney General for International Affairs Dr. Gilad Noam, went through a special level of difficulty given the responsibility to protect the country from genocide recriminations.

Probably the most important “win” of Noam’s career to date was convincing the ICJ in December 2023-January 2024 to stay out of the Gaza war in any imminent sense.

Yes, the ICJ harshly lectured Israel and yes, it seemed to participate in a dialogue of absurd relativism and hypocrisy by putting Israel on trial at all for defending itself after Hamas’s October 7, 2023 massacre.

But the bottom-line was the ICJ did not issue an operative court order demanding Israel cease the war.

Whether Israel would have abided by such an order or not, had Israel been put in such a position, it would have at minimum significantly reduced how hard Israel might have fought.

This means that by keeping the ICJ at bay in which all it did was make declarative statements that Israel should not commit war crimes, with no concrete limits, Noam, his Justice Ministry team, and related lawyers in the IDF and the Foreign Ministry, helped do no less than free up Israel to keep fighting the war as it thought necessary.

Argentina’s Milei refuses to apologize for alleged crypto scam

The president promoted a memecoin that collapsed, inflicting losses on its investors

Argentine President Javier Milei has rejected accusations of fraud and calls for his impeachment over his promotion of a cryptocurrency that skyrocketed in value before crashing within hours of launch, resulting in massive investor losses, CNN has reported.

Last week, Milei promoted the new $LIBRA digital token on his social media page, touting it as a project that would boost economic growth by supporting small businesses and entrepreneurs. His endorsement triggered a surge in the token’s value, from about $0.22 to $5. However, the token price collapsed shortly after he deleted the post, wiping out millions in investor funds.

Milei defended his actions on Tuesday, equating investors who bought the token after his endorsement with gamblers placing bets. “The reality is, if you go to the casino and lose money, I mean, what is the complaint?” he asked.

A group of lawyers have filed multiple complaints against Milei, with some calling for his impeachment. A lawyer for one of the plaintiffs alleges that an illicit association was formed to commit “an indeterminate number of frauds.”

“I did not promote it. What I did was I spread it,”Milei responded, claiming that he did not benefit from the digital currency.

The opposition Popular Unity party has filed a formal complaint, accusing the president of facilitating a fraudulent scheme known as a ‘rug pull’ – a tactic where a cryptocurrency is heavily promoted to lure investors in before its backers abandon the project, leaving the hapless coin-holders with worthless assets.

According to crypto analytics firm LookOnChain, eight digital wallets involved in early trading of $LIBRA cashed out a total of $107 million. Data from ICOBench revealed that about 60 individual traders lost over $500,000 each, while 24 traders suffered losses of at least $1 million.

As of Wednesday, $LIBRA is valued at around $0.30, according to CoinMarketCap.com.

Kelsier, the company behind $LIBRA, has denied any wrongdoing, insisting that the project is legitimate.

Hayden Mark Davis, a representative of the firm associated with the coin, blamed Milei for abruptly withdrawing support at a crucial moment, leading to the market crash.

“When Milei and his team deleted their posts, investors who had purchased the token based on their trust in his endorsement felt betrayed,”which led to a “wave of panic selling,” NBC quoted Davis as saying.

In response, Milei’s office released a statement, cited by the AP, asserting that he was not involved in any stage of the cryptocurrency’s development and decided to remove his social media post to limit further exposure. The statement also reportedly said that the Anti-Corruption Office had been instructed to launch an investigation.

WASHINGTON — Kash Patel, a longtime loyalist to President Donald Trump, was confirmed by the Senate to serve as the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation — an agency he has talked about dramatically restructuring while echoing Trump’s claims of the “weaponization” of the bureau’s powers in its Capitol riot investigations and other recent cases.

Patel was opposed by a pair of Republican senators: Alaska's Lisa Murkowski and Maine's Susan Collins. But he won support from every other voting Republican, including Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., who had opposed some of Trump's other controversial nominees.

Patel's confirmation comes at time of significant turmoil and turnover at the FBI. Since Trump took office a month ago, an Elon Musk affiliate was amongst those brought into the bureau, sparking worries about partisan political figures taking the reigns of the powerful law enforcement agency. The head of the Washington Field Office — which oversaw the sprawling Jan. 6 probe — was forced out, as were six of the FBI’s most senior executives and multiple heads of FBI field offices around the country.

Acting FBI Director Brian Driscoll sparred with Trump-appointed Justice Department superiors over an order that he said would ultimately help them fire FBI special agents involved in Jan. 6 cases. The FBI ultimately handed over the names of FBI employees who worked on Jan. 6 cases as requested, and Trump has said he will fire “some” FBI personnel who worked on Capitol riot cases.

Altogether, it adds up to what many within the FBI see as the largest crisis facing the organization since the Watergate era. It stems in large part from FBI investigations into Trump himself, including two separate felony cases that were dropped when Trump was re-elected president: One involving Trump's handling of classified documents, and the other involving his efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss.

Patel previously worked on Capitol Hill and in the first Trump administration, after gaining earlier experience as a federal prosecutor in Washington and a federal public defender in Florida. He was considered as a pick to take over the FBI during the first Trump administration, but then-Attorney General Bill Barr, among others, vehemently opposed the plan, saying that Patel was unqualified.

Patel, a firebrand who appeared on a broad array of conservative media shows and previously spoke about his desire to "come after the people in the media," has attempted to walk back some of his more pugnacious comments from his podcast appearances.

At his confirmation hearing in late January, Patel distanced himself from Trump's sweeping pardons of Capitol rioters, saying he disagreed with the commutations of individuals who assaulted law enforcement officers on Jan. 6. Democratic senators also confronted Patel about his repeated false contentions that the 2020 election was stolen.

Patel has a close relationship with a network of conservative former FBI special agents who were pushed out of the bureau over the past several years, one of whom said he was "screaming to the heavens" when Trump nominated Patel.

Julie Kelly, a conservative commentator who described herself as a friend of Patel's, predicted that Patel would "do what needs to be done" at the FBI, “which is not just dismantle this agency from the top headquarters down to 56 FBI field offices, but also hold accountable those agents who have used their unaccountable power to weaponize the most powerful law enforcement agency in the country against the political foes of the regime.”

The United States Senate has confirmed Kash Patel, President Donald J. Trump’s nominee to lead the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), on a large party-line vote.

Patel’s nomination received intense pushback from Senate Democrats, with Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) using procedural maneuvers to delay the confirmation vote, which was initially scheduled for last week.

As the FBI director, Patel has pledged to end the bureau’s participation in partisan lawfare campaigns, telling members of the Senate Judiciary Committee in January:

“There should be no politics at the FBI.” Instead, Patel aims to return the bureau to its intended purpose, investigating crime and bringing dangerous criminals to justice. During his Senate Judiciary Committee testimony, Patel emphasized he wants “…to let good cops be cops and put handcuffs on the bad guys.”Additionally, Trump’s FBI director says the bureau will renew its focus on transparency and operational effectiveness, with the aim of restoring public trust in the top federal law enforcement agency.

One major initiative that Patel has emphasized is his intentions to disperse FBI personnel and resources away from Washington, D.C.—where he notes nearly one-third of the bureau’s employees are currently located—to the interior of the United States.

The agents distributed across the country will be tasked with building relationships, assisting, and coordinating with state and local law enforcement to ensure all law enforcement agencies are supported in aggressively targeting violent crime.

“Kash is just brilliant. I mean, he is just a brilliant person. He’s a brilliant mind, he’s a brilliant man,”

The National Pulse’s Editor-in-Chief Raheem Kassam remarked shortly after President Trump announced Patel’s nomination.

A news conference that was planned to follow talks between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and U.S. President Donald Trump’s Ukraine envoy was canceled Thursday as political tensions deepened between the two countries over how to end the almost three-year war with Russia.

The event was originally supposed to include comments to the media by Zelenskyy and retired U.S. Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg, but it was changed at the last minute to a simple photo opportunity where the two posed for journalists. They did not deliver statements or field questions as expected. The change was requested by the U.S. side, Ukrainian presidential spokesman Serhii Nikiforov said.

Kellogg’s trip to Kyiv coincided with recent feuding between Trump and Zelenskyy that has bruised their personal relations and cast further doubt on the future of U.S. support for Ukraine’s war effort.
