SWIFT stands for the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications which is a member-owned cooperative network designed to improve the communication of financial transactions. The network was set up in 1973 to support electronic international wire transfers.

 

The SWIFT headquarters are based in La Hulpe, Belgium and the organization employs nearly 3,000 people as part of a cooperative society under Belgian law. Readers arranging an international money transfer will do well to learn more about SWIFT codes, how the network operates, and the safety procedures in place.

 

What is a SWIFT code?

 

Each financial institution included in the SWIFT network is assigned a unique ID code 8 - 11 characters long which identifies the name, city, country, and branch.

 

For example, the UniCredit Milan branch can be identified by using the SWIFT codeUNCRITMM. The code can be broken down as follows:

 

Characters 1-4: UNCR refers to the bank name; UniCredit

Characters 5-6: IT stands for the bank’s country; Italy

The Incongruous, Curious Story of Minnesota Murder Suspect Vance Boelter

 

The stories surrounding Vance Boelter are incongruous and quite curious, raising more questions that providing answers. Boelter is married, has five children and lives in a 4-bedroom house on 11 acres. Yet he also lived with roommates in a small home and worked for two funeral homes.

 

John Carlson, the roommate of Boelter, said that Boelter voted for Trump and is a conservative who opposes abortion. Authorities are refusing to release a manifesto targeting Democrats and abortion rights activists, that was found in Boelter’s car. Yet flyers for the anti-Trump ‘No Kings’ protest were also found in the car.

 

Boelter was appointed to state boards by Democratic governors twice.

 

Boelter’s wife, Jennifer, was reported to have interned with Governor Walz in 2010 when he was in Congress, but the Governor’s office said that the intern was a different Jennifer Boelter.

 

Authorities and politicians have labeled the shootings as political assassination and Democrats are blaming MAGA supporters and Republicans blame leftists. Most media outlets are blaming conservatives on the right.

 

Note that only still photos from the Ring camera footage filmed at Senator Hoffman’s house have been released; we are still waiting for the video footage.

Rep. Thomas Massie Introduces Legislation to Stop US Involvement in Israel-Iran War

 

Republican US Representative Thomas Massie introduced an Iran War Powers Resolution with Democrat Representative Ro Khanna to prohibit US involvement in the Israel-Iran war. The resolution notes that “Congress has the sole power to declare war” and would direct the President to terminate use of US military against Iran, “unless explicitly authorized.”

Massie wrote: “This is not our war. Even if it were, Congress must decide such matters according to our Constitution.”

 

Massie also polled followers, asking, “Should the United States be giving Israel weapons to make war with Iran?” and 85% of the more than 126,000 respondents said “No.”

Zelensky seeks $40bn a year for ‘resilience’

The Ukrainian leader has appealed for continued aid after Trump refused to meet with him at a G7 event

 

Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky has called on Western donors to commit $40 billion annually to prop up his country’s budget, following a high-profile snub by US President Donald Trump at the G7 summit.

 

Zelensky made the appeal Tuesday during the gathering in Kananaskis, Canada,where he failed to get an audience with Trump, who left early.

 

Posting a photo on social media of himself speaking to six leaders,Zelensky demandedsustained donations. “It’s crucial to have $40 billion annually in budgetary support for Ukraine – to ensure our resilience and the ability of our country to carry on,”he said, urging the US to approve the aid.

 

Trump “does not apply strong enough pressure on Russia,” Zelensky claimed, despite Kiev purportedly defending Washington’s global interests.

 

He called on other G7 members to lobby the US leader, while advocating investment in Ukraine’s arms production and new sanctions against Russia.

 

The summit’s results have been reported as a disappointment for Kiev andhave cast doubt on the prospects of a Trump-Zelensky meeting at a NATO leaders summitscheduled for next Tuesday.

 

“It is a permanent hazard that Ukraine is a victim of events and Trump’s short attention span,”a Ukrainian official told The Guardian.“There had been all sorts of promises for this summit– including new US arms deliveries being offered.” (Not offered by US, our stupid, weak allies are begging Trump. Israel struck several military targets in Iran, including a centrifuge production facility and several weapons manufacturing sites in Tehran, on Tuesday, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

 

The operation,which involved more than 50 fighter jets, targeted Iran’s nuclear weapons and missile programs, the IDF said in a statement.

 

The Israeli air force struck a centrifuge production site near Tehran that the IDF claimed was designed to “enable the Iranian regime to expand the scale and speed of its uranium enrichment to develop nuclear weapons.” The IDF described it as “a key facility for centrifuge production.”

 

In addition to the centrifuge facility, the IDF said its jets hit factories that make missile components.

 

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has confirmed that Israeli airstrikes targeted two centrifuge production facilities linked to Iran’s nuclear program.

 

In a statement posted on X, the agency named the sites as the Tehran Research Center and the TESA workshop in Karaj, a city west of the capital.

 

The IDF claimed Iran is enriching uranium at levels “not required for civilian use,” and said the strike was “part of the broad effort to operate against Iran’s nuclear weapons development project.”

 

Iran currently enriches uranium to 60% purity, far above the 3.67% cap set under the now-defunct 2015 nuclear deal, which was rendered null and void after President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew the US from it during his first term.

 

Despite Israel’s claims,IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said the agency does “not have any proof of a systematic effort” by Iran to move closer to producing a nuclear weapon, in an interview with CNN.

 

Despite the ongoing talks between the US and Iran, late last week Israel launched strikes on Iranian military and nuclear sites, killing a number of senior commanders and scientists. Iran responded with missile strikes on Israel.

 

Moscow, which had earlier offered to mediate between the two sides, condemned Israel’s strike and warned that further escalation could destabilize the entire region. The Russian Foreign Ministry also called on Israel to “come to its senses and immediately stop raids on nuclear installations.”

Germany’s Merz praises Israel for doing ‘dirty work for us’

The German chancellor has endorsed the ongoing Israeli strikes against Iran

 

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has lauded Israel’s military strikes against Iran, saying the Israeli government and army are doing the “dirty work” of Western nations.

 

Merz made the remarks in a series of interviews on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Canada, attended by all guarantors of the original 2015 Iran nuclear deal, except for Russia and China.

 

“This is the dirty work that Israel is doing for all of us. We are also victims of this regime,” he said in an interview with ZDF, claiming that “this mullah regime has brought death and destruction to the world.”

 

I can only say: The greatest respect for the fact that the Israeli army and the Israeli leadership had the courage to do this.

 

“I assume that the attacks of the last few days have already weakened the mullah regime considerably and that it is unlikely to return to its former strength, making the future of the country uncertain,” Merz said in a separate interview with Die Welt.

 

Germany is part of the P5+1 group, which negotiated the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), commonly known as the Iran nuclear deal, in 2015. Despite his support for the strikes, Merz stated that Berlin is ready to back new negotiations to ensure Iran never obtains nuclear weapons.

 

West Jerusalem justified its attack on Friday by claiming Iran is on the brink of obtaining nuclear weapons. Tehran has repeatedly denied the accusations, maintaining that its nuclear program is entirely peaceful.

 

Iran retaliated by firing dozens of ballistic missiles into Israel, with both sides exchanging attacks ever since. Iran has reported at least 224 deaths since the hostilities began. Israel has reported 24 deaths.

 

In a joint statement on Monday, the leaders of the G7 called Iran the “principal source of regional instability and terror,” adding: “we have been consistently clear that Iran can never have a nuclear weapon.”

 

US President Donald Trump, who abruptly cut his stay at the G7 summit short, demanded an “unconditional surrender” from Iran on Tuesday.

 

Washington previously demanded that Tehran stop all uranium enrichment, which Iranian officials described as “completely detached from reality.”

 

Iran currently enriches uranium to 60% purity, far above the 3.67% cap set under the now-defunct 2015 nuclear deal, which was rendered null and void after Trump unilaterally withdrew the US from it during his first term.

 

Russia has condemned Israel’s initial airstrikes and called for deescalation.President Vladimir Putin spoke with Trump by phone over the weekend, and according to Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov,the two discussed the possibility of reviving negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program.

• Energy market participants continue to weigh the likelihood of direct U.S. involvement in the conflict, as well as the potential for major supply disruptions.

 

Analysts are struggling to predict the extent to which Israel and Iran’s escalating conflict could influence oil prices.

 

Israel’s surprise attack on Iran’s military and nuclear infrastructure on Friday has been followed by five days of spiraling warfare between the regional foes.

 

U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday called for an “unconditional surrender” from Tehran, warning Washington’s patience was wearing thin. In response, Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei threatened the U.S. with “irreparable damage” in the event of a military intervention, according to NBC News reporting.

 

Energy markets are weighing the likelihood of direct U.S. involvement in the conflict, as well as the potential for major supply disruptions —particularly worst-case scenarios, such as Iran blocking the highly strategic Strait of Hormuzthat links the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman.

 

John Evans, an analyst at oil broker PVM, said Wednesday that a “blanket of unease” had descended upon oil markets in recent days.

 

“Our market is settling into a world where missile exchanges are commonplace but the cynicism of it being normal has yet to set in because of how easily the situation could escalate,” Evans said in a research note.

 

Israel’s Bazan oil refinery complex sustained damage from an Iranian attack earlier this week, while an Israeli airstrike at the South Pars field, the world’s largest gas field, prompted Tehran to partially suspend production.The South Pars gas field is shared between Iran and Qatar.

 

“The situation is as fluid as the underlying commodity it mostly affects and while there is a fraternal ‘your guess is [as] good as mine’ in future price divination, positioning will continue to be at least defensively long,” PVM’s Evans said.

 

The chief executives of oil companies of TotalEnergies, Shell, and EnQuest told CNBC on Tuesday that further attacks on critical energy infrastructure could have serious consequences for global supply and prices.

 

‘It is a roulette’

 

Oil prices, which have jumped in recent days, extended gains on Wednesday.

 

International benchmark Brent crude futures with August delivery traded 0.3% higher at $76.69 per barrel at 2:02 p.m. London time. U.S. West Texas Intermediate futures with July delivery, meanwhile, traded up 0.5% at $75.25 per barrel.

 

Per Lekander, founder of investment management firm Clean Energy Transition, described the situation for oil markets ahead of Israel’s attack on Iran last week as “bad,” given plentiful supply growth from OPEC and non-OPEC producers and soft demand.

 

“I was increasingly convinced we were heading for a 2014/2020 reset lower to $30-50 to get capex down and start a new cycle. In fact, the current conflict makes that outcome even more likely when [the] conflict is over as producers are now producing and hedging as much as they can,” Lekander said in a note.

 

“While this is going on it is a roulette. We have a $10 [per barrel] risk premium in the price which is fair given that there clearly are some interruptions (mainly Iran exports and some lower tanker loadings),” he added.

 

What next for oil prices?

 

Looking ahead, Stephen Schork, editor of The Schork Report, on Wednesday said that a significant escalation in the Israel-Iran conflict could push oil prices substantially higher.

 

“We’re kind of stabilizing right now. I think we’re waiting for that next headline to come out and really, I think that anyone who does not think oil could go higher, I really think they are trading on hope and not reality,” Schork told CNBC’s “Access Middle East.”

 

“We are now facing the biggest threat to the oil markets since Iraq invaded Kuwait in 1990 and perhaps even greater than the 1974 Arab oil embargo,” he added.

 

Schork said there was a roughly 5% chance of oil prices climbing to above $103 per barrel within the next five weeks, with much longer odds of crude soaring as high as $160 per barrel by the end of summer, if flows out of the Persian Gulf are seriously disrupted.

• Israel and Iran have been exchanging fire since the end of last week, fueling investor concerns over the supply outlook in the crude-rich Middle Eastern region.

Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Wednesday threatened the U.S. with “irreparable damage” if Washington follows through with a military strike against the Middle Eastern country.

 

“Any American military entry will undoubtedly be met with irreparable damage,”Khamenei said, according to NBC News reporting. He added that America’s potential involvement in Iran “will 100% backfire” and that “the damage they suffer will be far worse than anything Iran may face. If they enter militarily, they will face harm that they cannot recover from.”

 

CNBC has reached out to the White House for comment.

 

Iran and Tehran have been trading missile fire since the Jewish state on Friday launched an attack against Iran, saying it primarily targeted the Iranian nuclear program.The International Atomic Energy Agency on Wednesday said two nuclear centrifuge production facilities in Iran were hit.

 

Trump on Tuesday warned the patience of the U.S. — a historically close ally and weapons provider of Israel — was “wearing thin,” noting that Khamenei is an “easy target.”

 

“We are not going to take him out (kill!), at least not for now,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social media platform, stressing the White House does not want missiles “shot at civilians, or American soldiers” but nevertheless aims for Tehran’s “UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER!”

 

Khamenei resisted the notion on Wednesday, saying “the Iranian people are not a people who can be forced into surrender.”

 

Under Trump’s second administration, the White House has been attempting to broker a deal over Iran’s nuclear program, with talks so far yet to bear fruit. Washington has previously insisted it was not directly involved in the hostilities, but Trump’s latest comments have stoked speculation over a change in strategy — and a potential direct U.S. military attack against Iranian sites.

 

“From the beginning, it was suspected that America was involved, and now, with their own officials’ words, this suspicion is growing stronger,” Khamenei said.

 

Tensions between the two historical Middle Eastern foes have been running high since the October 2023 attack on Israeli territory carried out by Iran-backed Palestinian militant group Hamas. Israel has since accused Iran of offensives undertaken through its network of regional allies that also include Lebanon’s Hezbollah and Yemen’s Houthi groups. Tehran denies involvement.

 

Amid ongoing fire exchanges, Israel’s Defense Minister Israel Katz on Wednesday said in a Google-translated social media updatethat “a tornado passes over Tehran” and “this is how dictatorships collapse.”(are they using weather weapons?)

 

Earlier in the week, leaders of the world’s group of seven (G7) most advanced economies had labeled Iran a “principal source of regional instability and terror” in the Middle East and jointly called for “broader de-escalation of hostilities” regionally. Speaking on the sidelines of the G7 summit, Germany’s Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that Israel is doing “the dirty work” for the Western world, according to Google-translated commentscarried by German outlet ZDF.

 

Markets have been avidly watching developments in the conflict, which threatens to envelop the broader oil-rich Middle East region and has driven investors to safe-haven assets, such as gold.

What's that unusual spot on the Moon? It's the International Space Station. Using precise timing, the Earth-orbiting space platform was photographed in front of a partially lit gibbous Moon in 2019. The featured image was taken from Palo Alto, California, USA with an exposure time of only 1/667 of a second. In contrast, the duration of the transit of the ISS across the entire Moon was about half a second. A close inspection of this unusually crisp ISS silhouette will reveal the outlines of numerous solar panels and trusses. The bright crater Tycho is visible on the lower left, as well as comparatively rough, light colored terrain known as highlands and relatively smooth, dark colored areas known as maria. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard joined President Donald Trump in the Situation Room on Tuesday following a report that she was not invited to attend a June 8 Camp David retreat, where the president “convened senior national security officials to discuss the Middle East.”

 

According to a report from Fox News White House CorrespondentPeter Doocy, Gabbard “had a scheduling conflict with National Guard orders, but was never invited [to Camp David] in the first place.” A senior intelligence official told The Daily Wire that theCamp David retreat was not originally planned to be an intelligence meetingand that CIA Director John Ratcliffe also wasn’t initially invited to attend, but he ended up going at the last minute. The senior intelligence official added that Tuesday’s national security meeting with Trump in theSituation Room was moved to the afternoon so that Gabbard could attend.

 

Earlier on Tuesday, Trump dismissed Gabbard’s March testimony before Congress, when she said Iran did not appear to be building a nuclear weapon.

“I don’t care what she said. I think they were very close to having one,” Trump told reporters on Air Force One while on his way back to the White House from the G7 summit in Canada.

Gabbard said in her opening statement before Congress in March that the intelligence community “continues to assess that Iran is not building a nuclear weapon and Supreme Leader Khamenei has not authorized the nuclear weapons program that he suspended in 2003.” She acknowledged that “in the past year, we’ve seen an erosion of a decades-long taboo in Iran on discussing nuclear weapons in public,likely emboldening nuclear weapons advocates within Iran’s decision-making apparatus.”

 

“Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile is at its highest levels and is unprecedented for a state without nuclear weapons,” she added.

 

Asked to respond to Trump’s comments,Gabbard backed the president, saying there is no conflict between his stance on Iran and her prior statements to Congress.

 

“What President Trump is saying is the same thing I said in my annual threat assessment in March to Congress,” Gabbard said, according to The Hill.

A senior intelligence official told Axiosthat Gabbard’s testimony does not contradict Trump’s statement that Iran is close to building a nuclear weapon.

 

“There’s a distinction. Just because they don’t have one does not mean that they don’t want to build one,” the official said.

Israeli intelligence suggested that the radical Islamic regime was close to obtaining a nuclear weapon, while a U.S. intelligence official told CNN,“If Iran wanted one, they have all the things they need.”

 

Gabbard, a former Democratic congresswoman, joined the Republican Party after endorsing Trump during the 2024 presidential campaign last year. During her time in the Trump administration, Gabbard has hailedTrump as “the president of peace.”

Crew Works Exercise and Earth Studies, Spacesuit Checks, and Lab Inspections

Exercise research and spacesuit checks were the top duties aboard the International Space Station on Tuesday. The Expedition 73 crew also continued inspecting the orbital outpost’s windows and photographing Earth landmarks.

An astronaut spends less energy moving around in space than they do walking in Earth’s gravity environment. As a result, muscles and bones begin to atrophy since crew members do not use a lot of effort when living and working in weightlessness.

Daily two-hour exercise sessions on the space station are critical and help offset the effects of weightlessness. Researchers monitor the crew exercise sessions to protect crew health and prepare astronauts for the return to Earth’s gravity.

 

NASA Flight Engineer Jonny Kim strapped on a sensor-packed vest and headband measuring his health data during a two-hour workout session on Tuesday.

He first pedaled on an exercise cycle then simulated lifting weights on the advanced resistive exercise device.

The Bio-Monitor wearable hardware comfortably collected Kim’s physiological parameters as he exercised that will help scientists refine space exercise programs and learn how to keep crews healthy on long term missions to the Moon, Mars, and beyond.

 

NASA Flight Engineer Nichole Ayers was back in the Destiny laboratory module exploring surface tension to contain liquids and study proteins without contacting solid walls.

Containerless liquid systems remove the effects of gravity providing more accurate computer models of fluid behavior in weightlessness.

The fluid physics study takes place inside Destiny’s Microgravity Science Glovebox may benefit pharmaceutical manufacturing and 3D printing techniques on and off the Earth.

 

NASA Flight Engineer Anne McClain spent her day inside the cupola, the orbiting lab’s “window to the world,” inspecting its seven windows.

The cupola is attached to the Tranquility module’s Earth-facing port and is very important for observing spacecraft operations, monitoring spacewalkers, and imaging the Earth.

McClain was photographing the condition of the windows to document smudges, particles, and scratches caused by crew activities, spacecraft plumes, or micrometeoroids.

 

Station Commander Takuya Onishi from JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) was also inspection duty examining hatches throughout the orbiting lab’s U.S. segment.

Onishi examined and cleaned hatch seals and surfaces, interlocking components, and crank handles removing dust and stains. He also photographed the condition of the hatches and downlinked the images for analysis by ground engineers.

 

Working in the station’s Roscosmos segment, cosmonauts Sergey Ryzhikov and Alexey Zubritskiy partnered together inside the Poisk module and worked on a pair of spacesuits.

The duo activated the suits then checked and cleaned life support components. Flight Engineer Kirill Peskov watched as Ryzhikov and Zubritskiy serviced the spacesuits to familiarize himself with spacesuit operations.

Peskov later continued his Earth observations pointing a hyperspectral camera out a station window and photographing North American mountains and lakes in different wavelengths.

In conjunction with accounts of birds observed and identified at a particular time and place, the researchers used MODIS Land Cover Type data to capture interannual changes in land cover and MODIS Land Water Mask data (derived from the MODIS instruments and the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission) to help delineate the interface between terrestrial, aquatic, and marine environments.

 

In addition to finding high and previously undetected spatial heterogeneity in bird population change and relative abundance trends across North America, the results of this study demonstrate how participatory science data combined with other broad-scale, observational datasets—such as those from Earth-observing satellites—can be leveraged with promising analytical tools to detect, diagnose, and respond to population changes at ecologically relevant scales.

NASA, German Aerospace Center to Expand Artemis Campaign Cooperation

While attending the Paris Air Show June 16, NASA acting Administrator Janet Petro signed an agreement with DLR (German Aerospace Center, or Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt) to continue a partnership in space medicine research.

This renewed collaboration builds on previous radiation mitigation efforts for human spaceflight. As NASA advances the Trump-Vance Administration’s goals for exploration on the Moon and Mars, minimizing exposure to space radiation is one of the key areas the agency is working to protect crew on long duration missions.

 

With this agreement, DLR will leverage its human spaceflight expertise and provide new radiation sensors aboard the Orion spacecraft during NASA’s Artemis II mission, building on previous work in this area during the Artemis I mission.

Scheduled for launch no later than April 2026, Artemis II will mark the first test flight with crew under Artemis.

 

“In keeping with the historic agreements NASA has made with international partners as a part of Artemis, I am pleased to sign a new NASA-DLR joint agreement today, to enable radiation research aboard Artemis II,” said acting NASA Administrator Janet Petro.

“The German Aerospace Center has been a valuable partner in Artemis, having previously worked with NASA to test technology critical to our understanding of radiation on humans aboard an Orion spacecraft on Artemis I and providing a CubeSat as part of Artemis II.

Following a productive meeting between President Trump and German Chancellor Merz earlier this month, I am excited to build upon our great partnership with Germany.”

 

During the Artemis II mission’s planned 10-day journey around the Moon and back, four of DLR’s newly developed M-42 extended (M-42 EXT) radiation detectors will be on board, contributing vital data to support astronaut safety.

This next-generation device represents a new phase of research as NASA and DLR continue working together to safeguard human health in space.

NASA: Winter Arrives Early in Lesotho and South Africa

A powerful storm system brought wintry conditions to Lesotho and South Africa in early June 2025. Snow blanketed higher elevations, while strong winds, cold temperatures, and heavy rains affected lower-elevation and coastal areas.

The severe weather was fueled by a cut-off low, which occurs when an area of low pressure becomes cut off from the jet stream. The weather system parked over central and eastern South Africa and Lesotho on June 9 and 10.

The storm had subsided by June 11, when the MODIS (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) on NASA’s Terra satellite acquired these images.

 

The above image shows the area in natural color, while the below image is false-color to help distinguish the snow (light blue) from clouds (white). (Note that small ice crystals in high-level clouds can also display a bluish tinge.)

Fresh snow covers much of Lesotho, as well as portions of South Africa’s Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal provinces. The snow created treacherous driving conditions and prompted closures of several sections of highway, according to news reports.

 

Snow is typically sparse during the area’s short winter, although heavy snowfall occasionally occurs. In northern Lesotho, at an elevation of 3,050 meters (10,000 feet), the country’s sole ski resort maintains artificial snow on slopes that might otherwise be bare.

But a different look ushered in the 2025 season. On June 9, the resort shared a video of whiteout conditions, accompanied by a simple message: “We are snowed in.” They later reported accumulations of about 30 centimeters (12 inches).

 

To the south and east of snow-affected regions, heavy rain triggered deadly flooding that submerged homes and damaged dozens of schools and hospitals, officials told news outlets.

In addition, winds gusting up to 100 kilometers (60 miles) per hour toppled trees and knocked out power to hundreds of thousands of homes.

A joint U.S.-Mexico operation reportedly uncovered a cartel safe house stocked with heavy weapons, stolen vehicles, and military-grade explosives just south of the Arizona border.

 

On June 16, U.S. Border Patrol Chief Michael W. Banks posted on X that a May 23 raid by Mexican authorities was initiated after U.S. agents in Tucson shared intelligence with the Government of Mexico (GoM). The result, according to Banks, was the seizure of “4 AK-47s, 3 mortar grenades, 3 stolen vehicles, 3,250 rounds of ammo, 62 magazines, 27 tactical vests, [and] 16 sacks of marijuana.”

 

“This joint effort dealt a serious blow to cartel operations—removing weapons, resources, and mobility from criminal hands,” Banks wrote. The post was accompanied by a photo showing the seized weapons and gear in clear plastic bags, arranged in front of a screen displaying logos of multiple Mexican security agencies.

A similar statement was posted to the Border Patrol’s official Instagram account, reinforcing the message of binational cooperation. Meanwhile, on Facebook, Border Patrol’s Tucson sector added more detail, identifying the location of the bust as Cananea, Sonora — a cartel hotspot located about 35 miles south of the Arizona town of Naco.

 

“High-powered guns seized through high-powered cooperation!!” the Tucson post began, crediting Border Patrol’s International Liaison Unit (ILU) at the Brian A. Terry Station with collecting information from sources in southern Arizona that led Mexican forces to the location. See below.

 

While the home was apparently unoccupied during the action, officials said they found a cache of rifles, ammunition, tactical gear, and narcotics — along with what the Tucson Sector described as “three live mortar grenades commonly used in battle by military units.”

 

“This is what binational cooperation looks like,” the post concluded. “Teaming up with Mexico took guns out of the cartel’s hands!!!”

 

U.S. officials have not released additional information about the intended use of the weapons or who was operating the Cananea safe house. Mexican authorities have also not publicly identified any suspects or provided independent confirmation of the seizures. The Border Patrol’s social media posts serve as the primary source of information currently available on the incident.

 

The reported bust comes amid mounting pressure on Mexico’s government to show results in its fight against organized crime. According to The New York Times, Mexico’s security forces have significantly escalated operations against the powerful Sinaloa Cartel in recent months, following threats from the Trump administration to impose steep tariffs unless fentanyl trafficking and migrant flows were curbed.

 

The Times reported that more than 10,000 Mexican National Guard troops and hundreds of soldiers have been dispatched to cartel hotspots like Sinaloa and that Mexican forces have made nearly 900 arrests in that state alone since October. Cartel operatives told The Times that they were shutting down drug labs, going into hiding, and even purchasing drone detection equipment in response to increased pressure.

 

The Trump administration recently designated several Mexican cartels as terrorist organizations and is weighing the prospect of unilateral U.S. military action — a move that some Mexican officials warn could spark retaliation. According to The Times, cartel members have already begun importing more arms from the U.S. and fortifying stash houses.

 

The Cananea operation, if accurately described, would mark one of the most significant seizures of military-grade explosives in a cross-border context since Trump re-assumed office in January.

 

As cartel operatives told The Times, the pressures they now face may be unprecedented — but survival is still the goal. “There are always weak points,” one cell leader said. “There are always loose ends we can get to.”

NASA astronauts make ‘space sushi’ aboard the ISS to cheer up sushi-craving crewmate

Life aboard the International Space Station (ISS) recently got a tasty twist when an astronaut rolled sushi during a joyful crew celebration.

The astronaut used simple ingredients found on board- rice, spam, fish, and added a touch of gochujang (a Korean chilli paste) and wasabi to give it extra flavour.

It wasn’t a fancy meal, but it brought smiles to the crew and showed how astronauts find small joys while living in space.

 

Jonny Kim, a NASA astronaut, shared this information on X through a post which was captioned, “Space sushi isn’t quite the same as the fresh stuff on the ground, but it’s not bad!

We had a crew celebration recently, and one of our crewmates expressed how much they missed sushi (as do I).”

“So we collected and pitched in our personal supplies of fish, spam, and rice, coupled with a dash of gochujang and wasabi, which made for a great meal”, he added.

 

Jonny Kim also added a fun detail about how meals work in space:

On the ISS, astronauts place tape on the dining table with the sticky side facing up.

This clever trick helps them stick food, utensils, and condiments to the surface, preventing everything from floating away in zero gravity.

 

People on X loved the post and were amazed by the idea of making sushi in space.

One of the users, @Skythelimit4545, commented, "Your space sushi party sounds like a blast, and that sticky-tape table hack is genius for keeping it all together in zero gravity."

Once operational, DARC will provide constant all-weather capabilities to detect, track and characterize small objects in geosynchronous orbit, bolstering SSA for allied nations.

 

India, a rising space power, is similarly enhancing its SSA posture.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has established a Directorate of Space Situational Awareness and Management (DSSAM) and is developing a dedicated SSA radar in Uttarakhand state, according to retired Indian Army Col. Ashwani Sharma, editor of South Asia Defence & Strategic Review.

India also operates a network of ground stations and optical telescopes under the Network for Space Object Tracking and Analysis.

 

Sharma emphasized the value of collaborative SSA efforts.

“It makes both strategic and practical sense for India and Japan to align their efforts in space situational awareness,” he told FORUM, noting that India’s cost-effective satellite capabilities and Japan’s precision technologies offer synergies.

Japan’s contributions include radar and optical tracking systems developed by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, and the operationalization of the Space Operations Squadron under the Japan Air Self-Defense Force.

 

Private partnerships are also playing a role, such as Mitsubishi Electric’s collaboration with Astroscale to develop debris removal technologies, which also involves engineering firm MEMCO India.

“With the Indo-Pacific facing rising geopolitical and security challenges, both [India and Japan] have a shared interest in monitoring and protecting their space assets,” Sharma said.

 

Australia, India, Indonesia, Japan, New Zealand, and Vietnam currently rely on partnerships, particularly with the U.S., for SSA.

These include bilateral agreements and participation in multilateral forums, such as the Combined Space Operations Initiative and the Artemis Accords.

The Secure World Foundation argues that these kinds of partnerships are essential to establishing the foundations of a global space traffic management system.

 

In Indonesia, a new telescope at the Timau observatory is expected to become operational this year and will enhance SSA capabilities in Southeast Asia.

Meanwhile, the Quad partnership — among Australia, India, Japan and the U.S. — has reaffirmed a commitment to SSA cooperation as part of its broader agenda to ensure the peaceful and sustainable use of space.

The growing importance of SSA has also prompted increased private sector engagement. LeoLabs, a U.S.-based commercial provider, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Singapore’s ST Engineering Geo-Insights to develop regional space traffic management solutions.

Sally Ride made history aboard the Space Shuttle Challenger on June 18, 1983, becoming the first American woman in space 20 years nearly to the day after Soviet Valentina Tereshkova’s flight.

In 1977, as she was finishing her Ph.D. in physics, Ride saw a newspaper ad placed by NASA to recruit astronauts. For the first time, women were allowed to apply.

She was selected from 8,000 applicants, and went through extensive training including parachute jumping, water survival, and adapting to weightlessness; she also contributed to developing the shuttle’s robot arm and served as capsule communicator.

 

During her mission, Ride operated the mechanical arm, deployed communication satellites, and conducted experiments.

A very private person, she nonetheless handled her fame and inappropriate questions – such as what makeup she was taking to space and whether she would cry if something went wrong – with humor and grace.

To continue to inspire girls to pursue STEM careers, Ride co-founded Sally Ride Science in 2001. She passed away in 2012.

Canadian state media explains absence of G7 Ukraine statement

Washington reportedly rejected a proposed text over concerns it could jeopardize the Ukraine peace process

 

G7 leaders did not issue a joint statement on the Ukraine conflict following the group’s recent summit in Canada,because the US refused to sign off unless it was “watered down,” Canadian state broadcaster CBC and other media outlets have reported.

 

The summit in Kananaskis, Alberta, ran from Sunday to Tuesday.US President Donald Trump left the gathering early, and did not meet with Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky, who also attended.

 

On Tuesday, CBC cited an anonymous official from Canadian Prime MinisterMark Carney’s office admitting that plans for a group statement on Ukraine were dropped.

 

The Americans reportedly opposed wording referencing Russia, due to concerns that it could jeopardize US-brokered diplomatic efforts to settle the conflict between Moscow and Kiev.

 

The Canadian PM’s office later rejected the reports, with its spokesperson Emily Williams insistingthat “no proposed joint statement regarding Ukraine was distributed. Canada’s intention was always for the important language to be a part of the G7 Chairs’ Summary Statement, and it was.” (NATO also reworded their statement in fear of President Trump’s position, andhe would get mad at them. KEKThe G7 meeting was a bust because they now have the stupidest leaders that just hate Russia. Thats all they try to fixate on. And Trump denying Zelensky a meeting was the best. The little shit got mad at Trump. Z doesn’t even belong there.)

 

Carney’s Summary statement said that the “G7 leaders expressed support for President Trump’s efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace in Ukraine”and backed Kiev’s call for “an unconditional ceasefire.”

 

Russia has repeatedly rejected Ukraine’s sudden demand, calling it a ploy to allow Ukrainian forces regroup and resupply.

 

According to Carney, the G7 is “resolute in exploring all options to maximize pressure on Russia, including financial sanctions.”

 

Commenting on the summit on Tuesday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov saidthat the event was “rather unremarkable and meaningless.”
