Nexstar ABC Affiliates To Preempt “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Indefinitely Beginning Tonight

 

IRVING, TX (Sept. 17, 2025)—Nexstar Media Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: NXST), today announced that the company’s owned and partner television stations affiliated with the ABC Television Network will preempt “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” for the foreseeable future beginning with tonight’s show. Nexstar strongly objects to recent comments made by Mr. Kimmel concerning the killing of Charlie Kirk and will replace the show with other programming in its ABC-affiliated markets.

 

“Mr. Kimmel’s comments about the death of Mr. Kirk are offensive and insensitive at a critical time in our national political discourse, and we do not believe they reflect the spectrum of opinions, views, or values of the local communities in which we are located,” said Andrew Alford, President of Nexstar’s broadcasting division. “Continuing to give Mr. Kimmel a broadcast platform in the communities we serve is simply not in the public interest at the current time, and we have made the difficult decision to preempt his show in an effort to let cooler heads prevail as we move toward the resumption of respectful, constructive dialogue.”

Jimmy Kimmel‘s late-night talk show is being suspended ABC over his viral comments about Charlie Kirk.

A network spokesperson said Wednesday that Jimmy Kimmel Live! will be “pre-empted indefinitely.”

The network’s action came just after Nexstar, one of the biggest owners of local TV stations in the country — including 28 ABC affiliates — said it will pre-empt the series for the immediate future. A source said that ABC had also heard from at least one other station group about the show, suggesting that an affiliate revolt may have played a role in the decision.

The dramatic move follows Federal Communications Commission chair Brendan Carr threatening to take action against ABC affiliates in the wake of Kimmel suggesting Kirk shooting suspect was a MAGA Republication during his Tuesday monologue.

Kimmel’s original comments were as follows: “We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”

Then on Wednesday, Carr went on a podcast where he slammed Kimmel and declared that affiliates should “push back” on ABC and say, in effect, “Listen, we’re not going to run Kimmel anymore until you straighten this out because we’re running the possibility of license revocation from the FCC if we continue to run content that ends up being a pattern of news distortion.”

Nexstar issued a statement late Wednesday they would not air tonight’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live and would pre-empt the show for the foreseeable future

Three police officers killed in Pennsylvania shooting

York Hospital, where the injured officers were being treated, said it implemented enhanced security protocols.

 

The Consulate of Mexico in Philadelphia said it was “monitoring the incident”, which took place in an area with a large population of immigrant farmers.

Law enforcement responded to the scene shortly after 2pm local time (7pm UK), with two officers reportedly taken to hospital and several others lifted away in a Medevac helicopter.

 

Emergency calls included reports of an “officer down” and “signal 13”, which signifies a member of law enforcement is in danger.

North Codorus Fire Service confirmed they had responded and set up a landing zone in the area and helped with shutting down the road.

Three officers were killed and two others were left in critical condition from anapparent ambushin rural Pennsylvania Wednesday afternoon.

Damn AI is lousy at giving right answers. It's concerning that it's 'factually' wrong nearly 100% of the time. The answers are always close or similar to accurate but always wrong. Why/how do people use it? I'm not just talking politics, I tried it for Arduino programming to write code for something I already knew how to do but didn't want to expend the brain power and map it all out. Ended up spending 5x more effort trying to get AI to fix all the screw ups. Worse yet, when you point out a mistake, it always blames you for it which is hyper annoying.

Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said Wednesday, "We have poured a lot of money into this war. We have to see how we are dividing up the land in percentages" amid the ongoing Gaza military operation. Importantly, he further described "the demolition" of Gaza City as "the first stage in the city’s renewal, we have already done. Now we just need to build."

 

But how does Israel's military plan to do this? First, as we've detailed before, the IDF is utilizing airstrikes involving powerful missiles hitting the bases of high-rise buildings in order to collapse them in their own footprint. But for other buildings and structures in tightly-packed urban areas, there's increased reliance on explosive-laden robots, or something that might look straight out of Terminator 2 and Skynet.

 

The Israeli military commonly refers to them as "suicide APCs" - and they are capable of being driven deep into urban environments before causing huge explosions.

 

They've been able to cause 'mega-blasts' so powerful that in some instances they can be heard as far away as central Israel. Palestinians have described "earth-shaking" explosions, with one eyewitness recently telling Middle East Eye that "they are far more devastating than air strikes."

 

Gaza's Government Media Office has said over one hundred of these explosive robots have been used in about the past month alone. Hundreds of residential units and small business buildings have been destroyed.
