THE NON-GRAVITATIONAL ACCELERATION OF 3I/ATLAS

 

When non-experts hear that "Comet 3I/ATLAS has non-gravitational acceleration," some think it means the interstellar object must be a spaceship. Not so. All comets have non-gravitational acceleration.

 

A new paper published in Research Notes of the AAS explains why–and shows how 3I/ATLAS behaves very much like the comets we know from our own Solar System.

 

“We measured the non-gravitational acceleration of 3I/ATLAS using long-baseline astrometry from NASA’s Psyche spacecraft and ESA’s Mars Trace Gas Orbiter,” explains lead author Marshall Eubanks. “The results are pretty typical of ordinary comets, and certainly not record-breaking.”

 

Non-gravitational acceleration comes from the gentle push comets experience from their own outgassing. Jets of icy material sublimating from the nucleus recoil like tiny rocket engines, nudging the comet off the path it would follow under gravity alone.

 

"Until recently, finding non-gravitational accelerations in comets required observations over multiple orbitswhich we will never have for interstellar objects," says Eubanks. "Now, using interplanetary spacecraft, we can measure these small accelerationsjust a few hundred millionths of Earth’s gravity–during a single flythrough of the solar system."

 

For 3I/ATLAS, the acceleration caused by outgassing is about 5 × 10⁻⁷ m s⁻², comparable to that of many small Solar System comets. Using this value, along with measurements of carbon dioxide production, the team estimated the comet’s mass at about 44 million metric tons and its radius between 260 and 370 meters–again, entirely typical.

 

The comparison between 3I/ATLAS and the original interstellar object 1I/‘Oumuamua is striking. In 2017 when 1I/‘Oumuamua was passing through the Solar System, its non-gravitational acceleration (~10⁻⁶ m s⁻²) attracted attention. Why? Because ‘Oumuamua didn't have any obvious outgassing. This laid the foundation for Avi Loeb's claims that 1I/'Oumuamua might be a light sail or some other kind of tech.

 

3I/ATLAS, on the other hand, seems normal. It has obvious cometary outgassing with a non-gravitational acceleration to match. Claiming that it, too, is a spacecraft does not fit the data.

 

Conclusion: 3I/ATLAS is exotic and wonderful. It is also a comet.

It’s true. There’s only rhythm and motion. There’s only the present moment and a stream of consciousness. U can “time” when something will manifest from the no physical. That would be a very good thing. Here's my stance on transgenderism:

 

A boy cannot become a fully functioning girl, and a girl cannot become a fully functioning boy. Sure, they may be able to achieve a likeness, but it is not real. Gender “affirming” care doesn’t affirm anything. This is a euphemism at best. Let’s call it what it is. It is more correctly “gender negating care”, since all such “care” can do is create eunuchs, which was historically one of the final acts of war of conquering nations. (Who thinks they have conquered us and is thus promoting this “care”?) These interventions create medical problems that must be attended to for the rest of their physical lives. In addition to hormone therapies, such issues can include continuing pain, failure of the surgery to heal properly, and other physical issues. Children who are talked into such care lose their chances at some of the greatest joys of this life; and at some point, they will figure that out, especially when their friends are moving into those stages of life. It may be possible to undo changes caused by hormonal treatments—maybe—, but any surgeries are irreversible. Children undergoing such treatments are permanently damaged.

Maxwell maintained in a habeas petition she has promised to file since August that information that would have resulted in her exoneration at her 2021 trial was withheld and false testimony was presented to the jury.

 

She said the cumulative effect of the constitutional violations resulted in a “complete miscarriage of justice.”

 

A habeas petition (or writ of habeas corpus petition) is a legal request for a court to review the legality of someone’s detention, demanding that the custodian (like a prison official) bring the prisoner before a judge to justify the imprisonment, serving as a fundamental safeguard against unlawful confinement and arbitrary detention by ensuring due process. Filed by or on behalf of someone in custody, it challenges constitutional violations, such as ineffective legal counsel or unfair trials, and seeks release or other relief, often as a last resort after appeals are exhausted.

 

“Since the conclusion of her trial, substantial new evidence has emerged from related civil actions, Government disclosures, investigative reports, and documents demonstrating constitutional violations that undermined the fairness of her proceeding,” the filing in Manhattan federal court said. “In the light of the full evidentiary record, no reasonable juror would have convicted her.”

 

The filing came just two days before records in her case were scheduled to be released publicly as a result of President Donald Trump's signing of the Epstein Files Transparency Act. The law, signed after months of public and political pressure, requires the Justice Department to provide the public with Epstein-related records by Dec. 19.

 

Forced to act by the new transparency law, the Justice Department has said it plans to release 18 categories of investigative materials gathered in the massive sex trafficking probe, including search warrants, financial records, notes from interviews with victims, and data from electronic devices.

 

Epstein, a millionaire financier, was arrested in July 2019 on sex trafficking charges. A month later, he was found dead in his cell at a New York federal jail and the death was ruled a suicide. Maxwell, a British socialite, was arrested a year later and was convicted of sex trafficking in December 2021. She was interviewed by the Justice Department’s second-in-command in July and was soon afterward moved from a federal prison in Florida to a prison camp in Texas.

 

After the Justice Department asked a New York federal judge to permit grand jury and discovery materials gathered prior to her trial to be released publicly, attorney David Markus wrote on her behalf that while Maxwell now “does not take a position” on unsealing documents from her case, doing so “would create undue prejudice so severe that it would foreclose the possibility of a fair retrial” if her habeas petition succeeds.

 

The records, Markus said, “contain untested and unproven allegations.”

 

Last week, Judge Paul A. Engelmayer in Manhattan granted the Justice Department's request to publicly release the materials.

 

On Wednesday, U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton said during a news conference on another topic that he would follow the law and the judge's orders pertaining to the records.

 

Engelmayer, who along with other judges had previously rejected Justice Department unsealing requests before the transparency law was passed, said the materials “do not identify any person other than Epstein and Maxwell as having had sexual contact with a minor.”

However, Cadmus encountered an unexpected obstacle. The dragon guarding the spring near the sacrifice site killed several of his men. In response, Cadmus managed to kill the dragon and, on Athena's advice, dug up the dragon's teeth and sowed them in the ground. From there emerged the Spartans, armed warriors who immediately began fighting among themselves.

 

To end the violence, Cadmus threw a stone among the warriors, who then turned against him. Only five Spartans survived, and these became the ancestors of the Theban nobility. Cadmus reconciled them with him, and they became his faithful companions.

 

To atone for the dragon's murder, Cadmus was condemned by the gods to become a serpent. However, Zeus also granted him the hand of his daughter Harmonia, who was one of the Three Graces. The wedding of Cadmus and Harmonia was grand, and all the gods attended, bringing splendid gifts.

 

Cadmus and Harmonia had several children, including Semele, the mother of Dionysus, and Agave, the mother of Pentheus. Their descendants were marked by numerous tragedies, notably those related to the curse of the Labdacids.
