Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent joins ‘Mornings with Maria’ to discuss the Iran war, surging oil prices, market volatility, Fed uncertainty, Powell’s future and the U.S. strategy to stabilize the global economy.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the U.S. government will not intervene in oil futures markets even as the administration moves to offset supply disruptions tied to the Iran conflict, arguing that Washington’s response will focus on boosting physical crude availability instead.

"We’re absolutely not doing that," Bessent told FOX Business' "Mornings With Maria"on Thursday, when asked about possible Treasury intervention in the futures market. "We’re not intervening in the financial markets. We are supplying the physical markets."

In an interview with Maria Bartiromo, Bessent said the administration has prepared a coordinated supply response designed to cushion the impact of any temporary disruption around the Strait of Hormuz. He said the U.S. had already moved to "unsanction" Russian oil cargoes already on the water, estimated at about 130 million barrels, and could do the same with roughly 140 million barrels of Iranian oil in floating storage.

"In essence, by the time we unsanctioned the floating Iranian oil, we would have intervened and we would have created about 260 million excess barrels of energy," Bessent said, calling that a "physical intervention" rather than a financial one.

Bessent said that volume could help cover what he described as a temporary deficit of 10 million to 14 million barrels per day if shipping through the strait is interrupted, providing roughly three weeks of market stabilization. He also pointed to a 400 million-barrel coordinated Strategic Petroleum Reserve release approved last week and said the U.S. could act again unilaterally if needed.

"The largest coordinated SPR release in history, 400 million barrels, was approved last week," he said. "The U.S. could unilaterally do another SPR release to keep the price down."

Bessent framed the strategy as part of a broader effort to balance pressure on Iranwith energy market stability. He said the U.S. has avoided striking Iranian energy infrastructure even while escalating military operations, arguing the goal is to preserve supply while keeping pressure on Tehran.

"We have lots of levers," Bessent said. "We’ve got plenty more that we can do."

Supplying the world more oil from Iran is going to ultimately bring down prices in America, according to Bessent, who noted the U.S. does not rely on Middle East oil but the chokepoint on oil through the Strait of Hormuz has indirectly strained supply and spooked crude futures markets.

Iran attack wipes out 17% of Qatar’s LNG capacity for up to five years, QatarEnergy CEO says

Iranian attacks have knocked out 17 per cent of Qatar’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) export capacity, causing an estimated US$20 billion in lost annual revenue and threatening supplies to Europe and Asia, QatarEnergy’s CEO told Reuters on Thursday.

Saad al-Kaabi said two of Qatar’s 14 LNG trains and one of its two gas-to-liquids (GTL) facilities were damaged in the unprecedented strikes. The repairs will sideline 12.8 million tons per year of LNG for three to five years, he said.

“I never in my wildest dreams would have thought that Qatar would be - Qatar and the region - in such an attack, especially from a brotherly Muslim country in the month of Ramadan, attacking us in this way,”Kaabi said in an interview.

Hours earlier Iran had aimed a series of attacks at Gulf oil and gas facilities after Israeli attacks on its own gas infrastructure.

State-owned QatarEnergy may have to declare force majeure on long-term contracts for up to five years for LNG supplies bound for Italy, Belgium, South Korea, and China due to the two damaged trains, Kaabi said.

“I mean, these are long-term contracts that we have to declare force majeure.We already declared, but that was a shorter term. Now it’s whatever the period is,” he said.

Exxonmobile impact and byproducts

U.S. oil major ExxonMobil is a partner in the damaged LNG facilities.

The Texas-based firm holds a 34 per cent stake in LNG train S4 and a 30 peer cent stake in train S6, Kaabi said.

The fallout extends well beyond LNG.Qatar’s exports of condensatewill drop by around 24 per cent, while liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) will fall 13 per cent. Helium output will fall 14 per cent, and naphtha and sulfur will both drop by six per cent.

The damaged units cost approximately US$26 billion to build, Kaabi said.

QatarEnergy had declared force majeure on its entire output of LNG after earlier attacks on its Ras Laffan production hub.

“For production to restart, first we need hostilities to cease,” he said.

Chad on high alert after Sudan drone strike kills 17 (and other international drone news and attacks)

The Chadian national army has been placed on maximum alert following a lethal drone strike on the border town of Tine that resulted in the deaths of 17 civilians.

The attack, which occurred late Wednesday evening, reportedly targeted a group of people gathered at a burial site.

While Chadian authorities have confirmed the drone originated from Sudanese territory, the exact source of the launch remains under investigation as Sudan continues to be embroiled in a civil war that began in April 2023.

In response to the escalation, President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno convened an emergency security council meeting overnight with the Prime Minister and the heads of defense and national security.

During the session, the President ordered a complete closure of the 1,300-km border with Sudan and instructed the armed forces to prepare for immediate retaliation in the event of any further incursions.

A government delegation is also being dispatched to the Wadi Fira region to assess the human and material toll of the strike.

The incident has further strained relations between the two neighbors, following Chad’s previous decision in February to restrict border access due to increasing spillover from the Sudanese conflict.

The paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have issued a formal denial of involvement, instead accusing the Sudanese regular army of orchestrating the strike.

While the Sudanese military has yet to release an official response, the Chadian government has reaffirmed its right to pursue belligerents on Sudanese territory to ensure the protection of its citizens and territorial integrity.

Russia calls for ‘safety island’ around Iran’s Bushehr nuclear plant

A senior Russian official called onThursday for the creation of a safety zone around Iran’s Russian-built Bushehr nuclear plant to prevent a major disaster, two days after a projectile struck within several hundred meters of its reactor.

Alexei Likhachev, head of state nuclear corporation Rosatom,said there were 72 tons of fissile material and 210 tons of spent nuclear fuel at the site, and that any strike on it could lead to a catastrophe.

“If an incident were to occur, it would be at least regional in scale and would affect a large number of countries in the Middle East.None of the parties to the conflict would avoid radiation exposure in the event of a serious accident at Bushehr,” Likhachev told reporters.

Iran, which has been under heavy US and Israeli airstrikes since February 28, said on Tuesday that an unspecified projectile had hit the area near the Bushehr plant.

The International Atomic Energy Agency said a structure about 350 meters from the reactor was hit and destroyed, but there was no damage to the reactor itself and no injuries to staff. Rosatom said radiation levels around the plant remained normal.

Rosatom built the first 1-gigawatt unit of Iran’s only nuclear power plant at Bushehr and is constructing additional units there.

It has evacuated some of its hundreds of staff from there in recent weeks. Likhachev said a further major evacuation was planned, which would leave only a few dozen employees at the site.

“I believe political leaders and lawmakers must now play their role and do everything possible to ensure there is no recurrence of such risks — not even a hint of possible direct strikes on the site of an operating power unit,” he said.

“We appeal to the leadership of all parties to the conflictto make this area an island of safety and to rule out any risk.”

Likhachev added that the US and Israel had precise information on the geographical coordinates of the Bushehr plant and the new units under construction there.

The military is investigating following reports of drone sightings over Ft. McNair, an Army base in Washington, D.C., that is home to several Trump administration cabinet officials.

On Thursday, the Washington Post reported sightings of several unidentified drones over Ft. McNair. The outlet cites anonymous sources who were briefed on the sightings.

Scripps News has not independently confirmed that reporting.

As of Thursday afternoon, military officials have not confirmed the presence of any drones, but the military says it's investigating.

"We are aware of the reported drone sightings near Fort McNair and the surrounding areas," a spokesperson for Ft. McNair told Scripps News.

"We are working with our law enforcement and interagency partners to monitor and investigate the reported sightings. Our top priority is the safety of our service members and civilian personnel that work and live on the base.

From the last frames of the F-35 being hit by Iranian air defense.

It looks like some shrapnel got into the air intake and damaged the engine, but the airframe looked largely intact.

The important thing here is not whether a F-35 was shot down, it was the fact that Iran's air defense was able to detect, track, lock onto and shoot and damage a F-35.

White House registers new ‘alien’-related .gov domains as DOD tackles Trump’s disclosure directive (Updated)

The White House registered two new government domains this week: alien.gov and aliens.gov, according to publicly available federal records.

Their appearance comes about one month after President Donald Trump announced plans to direct the long-anticipated release of U.S. government records about unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) and extraterrestrial beings.

Those new domains were not connected to websites as of Wednesday morning. But public data managed by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) reveals that both sites were registered Tuesday evening and are hosted on Cloudflare servers.

Shortly after Trump’s disclosure order in February, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the Pentagon was keen to comply and had started actively working on the initiative.

Defense Department leadership set up the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) in 2022 during the Biden administration to detect and investigate UAP, which is the modern term for UFOs that accounts for perplexing maritime and transmedium objects.

AARO’s launch was sparked by mounting public concerns about national security risks associated with unidentified anomalous phenomena.

Officials inside the office are working to resolve an ever-growing caseload of DOD-related UAP reports. They’re also conducting activities to improve flight safety and synchronize efforts across the military regarding unexplained objects in the air, sea and space.

AARO maintains a website that serves as a central hub for federal UAP information. The office is currently accepting reports about suspected UAP encounters — specifically from current or former U.S. government employees, military personnel, and contractors — with plans to expand to the general public sometime in the future.

Pentagon spokespeople did not respond to questions from DefenseScoop on Wednesday regarding the registration of these new .gov domains, the content they will support, or whether this marks a change in the government’s plans for public UAP reporting options.

Shortly after the initial publication of this article, White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly told DefenseScoop in an emailed response to those questions to “Stay tuned!”

Her statement included the same alien emoji that Hegseth used on social media when he reposted Trump’s promise last month to publish previously undisclosed records about extraterrestrials and unidentified craft.

Notably, both domains were launched while CISA is not accepting new .gov domain requests, due to a lapse in federal funding.

Spokespeople from that agency also did not respond to inquiries from DefenseScoop.

The arrival of aliens.gov was previously reported by 404 Media and first spotted by a bot that tracks .gov domains.

FBI admits buying location data to track Americans

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is actively purchasing commercially available data that can be used to track individuals' movements and location history, Director Kash Patel confirmed during a Senate hearing on Wednesday, March 18.

The disclosure marks the first time the agency has acknowledged engaging in the practice since former Director Christopher Wray told lawmakers in 2023 that while the FBI had previously bought such data, it was no longer doing so at that time.

Speaking before the Senate Intelligence Committee during its annual Worldwide Threats hearing, Patel said the agency's use of purchased data complies with legal standards. "We do purchase commercially available information that's consistent with the Constitution and the laws under the Electronic Communications Privacy Act, and it has led to some valuable intelligence for us," he told senators.

Purchasing of commercially available data, as defined by BrightU.AI's Enoch, includes location records, browsing history and financial transactions – from private brokers, bypassing traditional warrant requirements. The practice has drawn renewed scrutiny due to concerns that it may circumvent legal safeguards established by the U.S. Supreme Court.

In 2018, the court ruled that law enforcement agencies must obtain a warrant to access location data directly from cellphone providers. However, data brokers can legally sell similar information, offering agencies an alternative route that does not always require judicial approval.

Lawmakers push warrant requirement as FBI data purchases spark privacy debate

Several lawmakers are now pushing to close that gap.

Senators Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) and Mike Lee (R-Utah) introduced the Government Surveillance Reform Act on March 13. The proposed legislation would require federal agencies to obtain a warrant before purchasing Americans’ personal data.

Wyden criticized the current practice during the hearing, calling it "an outrageous end run around the Fourth Amendment," and warning that advances in artificial intelligence could amplify privacy risks by enabling the analysis of vast amounts of personal information.

"Doing that without a warrant is an outrageous end run around the Fourth Amendment, it's particularly dangerous given the use of artificial intelligence to comb through massive amounts of private information," Wyden said during the hearing.

A companion bill has also been introduced in the House by Representatives Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.) and Warren Davidson (R-Ohio), signaling bipartisan concern over the issue.

Not all lawmakers oppose the practice. Senate Intelligence Committee Chair Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) defended the FBI's actions, emphasizing that the data in question is commercially available. He argued that access to such information could help authorities track dangerous criminals and protect public safety.

Meanwhile, Defense Intelligence Agency Director James Adams told the committee that they also purchase commercially available data, underscoring how widespread the practice has become across U.S. intelligence agencies.

The debate highlights growing tension between national security priorities and privacy protections, as lawmakers weigh whether new regulations are needed to govern the expanding market for personal data.

UFO Witness Says ODNI Ran Operation To Destroy Him

Former State Department analyst and UAP whistleblower Matthew Brown returned to the Weaponized podcast with George Knapp and Jeremy Corbell for his first on-camera update in nine months — and what he described represents a significant escalation in the effort to silence UAP disclosure witnesses.

According to Brown, following the September 2025 congressional UAP hearing where military witnesses including Dylan Borland testified under oath, he was invited to Liberty Crossing, a major intelligence campus in the Washington D.C. area operated by ODNI — the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the body that oversees every U.S. intelligence agency.

Brown was told his clearances were active, the meeting would be fully protected, and a formal UAP whistleblower protection program would be offered. None of that materialized.

According to Brown, the program was never mentioned, never offered, and no paperwork was presented.

Within three weeks of the meeting, ODNI reportedly characterized Brown to Corbell and Knapp as having fabricated the Immaculate Constellation discovery entirely, as engaging in counter-intelligence activity — with the word treason reportedly used — and as holding antisemitic views, drawn from concerns Brown raised about intelligence related to the October 7th attack on Israel. Brown addressed each allegation directly on camera, noting his family has confirmed Jewish ancestry through DNA testing, and that he never disclosed to ODNI which personal position he held on October 7th.

Corbell stated that the true purpose of ODNI’s UFO initiative under Director Tulsi Gabbard — which he said was not Gabbard’s intent — was to run an influence campaign against UAP witnesses in order to pressure Congress to abandon the UAP issue entirely, naming figures including David Grusch and Lue Elizondo as targets. Corbell called it an intelligence operation run by the U.S. intelligence community against the U.S. Congress.

Brown also brought documentation to that ODNI meeting of a coordinated harassment network currently targeting UAP witnesses and their families. Per Brown’s account active duty and reserve military personnel with current security clearances are running these operations on government time from government computers, with Office of Special Investigations agents reportedly sent to break apart the families of people who quietly assisted witnesses — individuals who never spoke publicly or testified.

Top Microsoft Exec To Host ‘Take Back The House’ Dem Fundraiser For Transgender Lawmaker

A top executive at tech giant Microsoft is hosting a high-dollar “Take Back the House” event for Sarah McBride, the far-left congresswoman who touts himself as the “first openly transgender member of Congress,” according to a copy of the invitation obtained by The Daily Wire.

Microsoft’s chief technology officer Kevin Scott and his wife are set to host the ‘Take Back the House’ fundraiser for Delaware’s Sarah McBride and House Minority Whip Katherine Clark next month. The fundraiser is in California, thousands of miles from for district McBride represents in Congress.

Tickets for the fundraiser go for up to $44,300, and will flow both to McBride and the joint fundraising committee that supports all Democrat efforts to flip the House in the midterms.

Microsoft declined to comment on the fundraiser, which is being held by Scott and his wife in a personal capacity.

Microsoft’s technology is deeply embedded across the federal government. Microsoft Office remains the dominant productivity suite used by the vast majority of government employees. General Services Administration official Josh Gruenbaum has estimated Microsoft’s annual U.S. government revenue at between $5 billion and $9 billion.

Microsoft was in the headlines last week for siding with Anthropic in its conflict with the Trump administration.

“Microsoft Takes a Stand Against the Trump Administration,” read the headline in the New York Times, noting that “the technology giant’s siding with Anthropic in its fight against the Pentagon stands out in an era when big companies have tended to keep quiet.”

As CTO, Scott plays a key role in shaping Microsoft’s AI strategy. The company’s entry into the Pentagon-related AI dispute came in the form of an amicus brief filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. Microsoft argued that restricting Anthropic’s products could disrupt government contractors that rely not only on Anthropic’s models but also on Microsoft services that integrate that technology.

The jabs have gone the other way too. Late last year, Trump demanded that Microsoft fire Lisa Monaco, who was involved with investigating Trump at the Department of Justice during the Biden administration. Trump yanked Monaco’s security clearance in his first month as president. She remains with the company.

Until recently, Microsoft had largely avoided the political spotlight. While other tech CEOs publicly aligned themselves with the Trump administration—attending events, making donations, and engaging more directly—CEO ≈ has generally maintained a lower profile and rarely commented on policy.

However, earlier this month, Microsoft joined other tech leaders in pledging to the Trump administration that they would cover the costs of new power generation for data centers so that residential consumers would not have to bear the burden of increased electricity costs.

The Trump administration sided with Big Ag in a case the Supreme Court is hearing that could grant immunity from pesticide-related harms.

“In December, the Trump administration sided with Bayer… in the case the Supreme Court is going to hear in April.”

“The Department of Justice lawyers… agreed with the argument that the attorneys for Bayer were presenting.”

“They basically said that the legal claims in the state courts based on a company’s failure to warn of risks are invalid.”

“Because the U.S. EPA doesn’t require a warning on the label.”

“So they actually already did take Bayer’s side and that was back in December.”
