Beyond the parties, Sinatra engaged in major leg work for the candidate: He organized donor dinners, appeared in radio ads and lent his private jet to Kennedy operatives. At concerts, he performed a reworked version of his hit "High Hopes," which served as the theme song of the campaign.

 

Kennedy emerged triumphant, of course, producing Ol' Blue Eyes' final contribution to the cause: A pre-inauguration gala at the National Guard Armory in Washington, D.C. headlined by showbiz all-stars like Gene Kelly, Nat King Cole, Milton Berle, and Ella Fitzgerald. Sinatra took turns performing and watching from the Kennedy box, and afterward, the president-elect took the stage to say he how indebted he was to Sinatra's efforts.

 

After JFK won, their friendship began to crumble and Sinatra was banned from the White House

But there were already cracks in the relationship, and they became more apparent once Kennedy officially took office. For one thing, First Lady Jackie Kennedy reportedly despised the singer and did not want him anywhere near the White House. (Years later after JFK's death, the pair would go on a dinner date.) Additionally, Sinatra flaunted his friendships with crime bosses, an association at odds with the anti-mob mentality of Attorney General Robert Kennedy.

 

Things came to a head when FBI chief J. Edgar Hoover approached the administration with potentially damaging information in March 1962, though stories differ as to what he revealed.

 

One account is that Hoover shared recordings of Judith Campbell's calls to the White House as well as those to Chicago Outfit boss Sam Giancana, tying the President to one of the notorious gangsters of the era.

A secret meeting at the White House. A NY Times story that never ran. A concern about Hunter Biden and Burisma. At the heart of it all is the alleged whistleblower, Eric Ciaramella.

 

There’s blowback that comes from invoking the name of the alleged Ukrainian whistleblower, Eric Ciaramella. Doing so will get you silenced by YouTube, banned by Facebook, fired from Fox News, or scolded by Adam Schiff. At NOQ Report, we believe the truth is the truth. Hiding it only diminishes discourse; in today’s contentious political atmosphere, discourse is the last thing that needs to be diminished.

 

Fox News host Laura Ingraham delivered a blockbuster segment that brought old conspiracy theories into the realm of verified facts surrounding the Obama White House, Hunter Biden, Burisma, Ukrainian officials, and a suppressed NY Times story. And at the center of it all is Ciaramella who is quickly proving to be much more than a guy who (allegedly) blew the whistle about Ukraine. It would seem he’s been involved since well before President Trump ever spoke to Ukrainian President Zelensky, which lends credence to my speculation that his complaint is as much (or more) about protecting himself as it is about protecting Joe Biden and taking down President Trump. Here’s the report by Ingraham followed by analysis:

 

Ingraham, like all Fox News employees, is forbidden from even saying Eric Ciaramella’s name. Her segment was still easy to follow, but here’s a breakdown with commentary about what was revealed, and we’ll even insert the appropriate name.

 

A White House meeting that Ciaramella may have had a hand in setting up on January 19, 2016, included Ukrainian prosecutors. They wanted to move forward with investigations into Burisma, the energy company that had Joe Biden’s son, Hunter, on their board. According to White House logs, Ciaramella signed in several who likely attended the meeting, including Jeffrey Cole, Anna Iemelianova, Nazar Kholodnitsky, Catherine Newcombe, Svitlana Pardus, David Sakvarelidze, Artem Sytnyk, Andriy Telizhenko, and Andris Razans.

 

NY Times reporter Ken Vogel, who has long-said there is more to the Burisma-Biden story than we’re being told, inquired with the Department of Justice regarding the meeting.

 

In the email, Vogel wrote, “We are going to report that [State Department official] Elizabeth Zentos attended a meeting at the White House on 1/19/2016 with Ukrainian prosecutors and embassy officials as well as … Eric Ciaramella from the NSC … the subjects discussed included efforts within the United State government to support prosecutions, in Ukraine and the United Kingdom, of Burisma Holdings, … and concerns that Hunter Biden’s position with the company could complicate such efforts.”

 

But the story never ran. Frank Sinatra had a succinct message for Donald Trump when the real estate mogul reportedly tried to stiff Ol’ Blue Eyes on a concert contract — “Go f*** yourself.”

 

A new book revealed the spat between the two ultra-powerful men in the 1990 when Trump was trying to book Sinatra to play at the opening of his Taj Mahal in Atlantic City. As the New York Daily News recounted, Trump decided that he use some of his famed negotiating skills to try to get some better terms for the deal.

 

The account of the incident comes from a new book called The Way it Was by author Eliot Weisman, Sinatra’s former manager. As the book noted, Weisman had set a deal with the new manager of Trump’s Taj Mahal, a man named Mark Grossinger Etess.

 

Etess died in a helicopter crash before Weiss could finalize the terms of the contract that would have Frank Sinatra playing 12 dates at the opening of the Taj Mahal. That was when Donald Trump stepped in, trying to change the terms of the deal and saying it was “a little rich.” Trump also decided that he did not want to pay for the opening acts, including Sammy Davis Jr. and pop duo Stevie and Eydie.

 

That was when things got a bit heated. As Weisman recalled, he became furious and tried to choke Donald Trump with his Trump’s own tie. Weisman’s son had to step in and stop his father from hurting the real estate mogul, Newsweek noted.

 

Weisman then left Trump’s office to call Frank Sinatra and tell him how the meeting had went. Sinatra decided to issue his own message to Trump. As Weisman recalled, Sinatra gave him two options — either tell Donald Trump that Sinatra said “Go f*** himself,” or Sinatra would call Trump and deliver the message personally.

 

Weisman then walked back into Trump’s office and told Trump, “Sinatra says go f*** yourself.”

 

It was not clear what happened next, but Frank Sinatra never ended up playing at the Taj Mahal opening. But as Newsweek noted, Donald Trump didn’t seem to harbor much ill will toward Sinatra, as held his first dance to the famed song “My Way” at his presidential inauguration earlier this year.

3 dead after twin engine plane crashes behind home near Springfield airport, sheriff says

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WLS) – Three people are dead after a twin engine plane crashed several miles outside the Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport outside Springfield Tuesday afternoon, the Sangamon County sheriff said.

 

Officials said they received a call to the tower that an aircraft had crashed about seven miles south and east of the airport in a rural residential area. According to a homeowner, the plane crashed in back of a house.

 

The homeowner said his neighbor called to say the plane had crashed in his backyard, the man told WICS-TV in Springfield. He said there was no damage to his house or property, other than possibly a burned fence.

 

Officials described the plane as a light twin engine aircraft that would be able to hold up to six passengers. The Sangamon County sheriff said three people died in the crash though it was not immediately clear if more people were on the plane.

 

The Sangamon County Sheriff's Department says the pilot of the twin-engine Piper Aerostar reported having trouble with the plane's instruments prior to the crash. Officials said it missed two houses before crashing.

 

Officials said the plane was headed to Springfield from Huntsville, Alabama. It originally took off from Florida's Sarasota/Bradenton International Airport.

 

The Sangamon County coroner reported to the scene at the crash.

 

Authorities from multiple municipalities and counties have responded to the scene.

A conservative Republican in Congress raised the name of the CIA officer accused of being the Ukraine whistleblower during a congressional hearing about Puerto Rico last month.

 

Rep. Louie Gohmert of Texas asked Natalie Jaresko, Ukraine’s former finance minister, who is now executive director of the Financial Oversight and Management Board for Puerto Rico, whether she had any involvement with National Security Council officials in her previous post. He cited an April 2016 meeting at a Le Pain Quotidien restaurant close to the White House between Eric Ciaramella, another White House official, and Ukrainian parliamentarian Olga Bielkova.

 

A Foreign Agents Registration Act filing shows that the meeting was arranged by Doug Schoen, a longtime Hillary Clinton ally and registered foreign lobbyist for Ukrainian billionaire Victor Pinchuk. The same day, Schoen arranged for Bielkova to meet with David Kramer, who flew to Britain in 2016 to meet former MI6 spy Christopher Steele, author of a dossier containing incendiary allegations about President Trump.

 

Jaresko was testifying before the House Natural Resources Committee on Oct. 22 about Puerto Rico’s debt. An American-born Ukrainian investment banker, she was Ukraine's minister of finance between 2014 and 2016.

Last week, attorneys for the whistleblower who submitted a complaint about Trump's July 25 call with Ukraine's president, prompting the impeachment process to begin, declined to confirm or deny that their client was Ciaramella, 33, a career CIA analyst. After it was reported that Ciaramella was the whistleblower, attorneys Mark Zaid and Andrew Bakaj told the Washington Examiner in a statement: "We neither confirm nor deny the identity of the Intelligence Community Whistleblower."

 

During the October hearing, Gohmert asked Jaresko: “I'm curious, in your position there in Ukraine — were you aware of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko dispatching Olga Bielkova or any other Ukrainian official to the U.S. in order to conduct an influence campaign on the 2016 election here in the United States?”

 

Jaresko replied she had no “knowledge of that” after she attempted to explain she was only at the hearing to testify about the Puerto Rico board. But Gohmert said her “credibility is an issue” and asked again if she had knowledge of Poroshenko sending Bielkova to the U.S. and how that trip was funded. She responded she did not have answers to either question, noting the trip did not occur when she was minister of finance. “Well, you were there," Gohmert said.

 

Chairman Raul Grijalva interjected, accusing Gohmert of pursuing conspiracy theories and straying from the subject of the hearing, the Puerto Rico board. Gohmert shot back at the Arizona Democrat, “My clock is still running as the chairman is eating up my time, lecturing me, and trying to cover up this matter,” he said.

 

The Texas Republican continued: “Well, let me ask you, Ms. Jaresko, are you aware of Ukrainian parliamentarian Bielkova April 12, meetings with Liz Zentos and Eric Ciaramella of the Obama and National Security Council?”

 

Jaresko said she was not aware of any meetings between them. According to Jaresko, she became the executive director of the Financial Oversight and Management Board of Puerto Rico by being recruited by the members of the board “based on her experience as minister of finance in both the fiscal area and the debt restructuring that I did in Ukraine.”

 

The day she became finance minister, she was granted Ukrainian citizenship and lived in Ukraine from her initial posting in the U.S. State Department as the economics officer in 1992 until she left and took her current post in 2017.

 

Gohmert told the Washington Examiner, “Specifically, I asked about an April 12, 2016, meeting between Ukrainian parliamentarian Olga Bielkova and Liz Zentos and Eric Ciaramella of the National Security Council, in which energy issues were discussed. I thought it was prudent to ask Ms. Jaresko on the record and under oath about this meeting, since the time frame and subject align with the concerning reports of Joe Biden and Hunter Biden’s dealings in Ukraine.”

 

The congressman added: “She said she had no knowledge of this meeting. Ms. Jaresko has previously said of Joe Biden’s relationship with Ukraine: ‘Joe’s role was unique and valuable and will be very hard to duplicate.’ If that is true, then the significance of a meeting like this one cannot be understated.”

 

Schoen arranged Washington meetings for Bielkova on behalf of Pinchuk. These included the one with Ciaramella and his then-boss Zentos, now political and economic chief at the U.S. Embassy in Tblisi.

Schoen, a Democratic operative who began foreign lobbying work for Pinchuk for $40,000 per month beginning in 2000, arranged April 2016 meetings for Bielkova with national security professionals, including Ciaramella, at the behest of Pinchuk. Schoen’s filing under the Foreign Agents Registration Act stated he didn’t attend these meetings personally and that the topic of the meetings was “the Ukrainian progress in energy reform during the past year and what steps must be done in the future to increase energy independence.”

 

In 2004, Schoen introduced Pinchuk to Bill and Hillary Clinton.

 

Bielkova met with Ciaramella and his colleague, Liz Zentos, then the director for Eastern Europe on the National Security Council, on April 12, 2016, at Le Pain Quotidien, on 17th Street N.W., a block from the White House. The same day, Bielkova also met with State Department official Michael Kimmage and, separately, with Kramer of the McCain Institute. Kramer figures prominently in the Trump-Russia saga — he met with Steele in December 2016 at Heathrow Airport to obtain a copy of the British ex-spy’s unverified dossier and provided information from it to over a dozen journalists after the presidential election.

 

Pinchuk, the powerful Ukrainian oligarch and billionaire whom Schoen works for, is the founder of Interpipe Group, one of Ukraine’s largest steel producers, EastOne Group, a large London-based international investment firm, and StarLightMedia, Ukraine’s largest broadcasting conglomerate. Pinchuk’s father-in-law is Leonid Kuchma, the Ukrainian president from the mid-1990s through the mid-2000s. Kuchma was widely seen as corrupt, and he controversially privatized and sold a state-run steel factory to Pinchuk in what was considered by some as a sweetheart deal. Pinchuk was a member of Ukraine’s parliament at about the same time and has continued to use his money and connections to remain active in politics in Ukraine and abroad.

 

He secretly provided $4 million for a 2012 report carried out by former Obama White House counsel Greg Craig and his law firm, written at the behest of the Kremlin-linked government in Ukraine about the country’s controversial prosecution of former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, who was tried under President Viktor Yanukovych, a close ally of Paul Manafort. Schoen testified in the trial this summer, and Craig was found not guilty of misleading investigators about his actions in Ukraine this September.

 

Pinchuk was the founder of the Victor Pinchuk Foundation, Ukraine’s largest philanthropic group, which, among other donations, gave an estimated $10 million to $25 million to the Clinton Foundation. The Clintons have traveled on Pinchuk’s private plane, and Pinchuk attended former President Bill Clinton’s 65th birthday party in Los Angeles in 2011. Pinchuk’s foundation also donated $150,000 to the Donald J. Trump Foundation in 2015 for Trump to appear by video at a Kyiv conference.

Deep State at work? NSC aide handling book approvals is twin brother of Schiff witness

 

The twin brother of a key administration impeachment witness against President Trump is in charge of the National Security Council’s process for reviewing publications by current and former NSC officials, according to a new report on Monday.

 

Breitbart reported that Army Lt. Col. Yevgeny Vindman, a senior ethics lawyer for the NSC, is in charge of reviewing publications such as the book manuscript submitted to the NSC on Dec. 30 by former National Security Adviser John Bolton.

 

The report cited a source close to the administration. The NSC had no immediate comment.

 

Mr. Bolton allegedly has written that the president informed him that he was withholding military aid from Ukraine in return for an investigation of Democrat Joseph R. Biden, an accusation at the heart of the impeachment case.

 

Yevgeny Vindman is the identical twin brother of Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, one of Democrats’ main witnesses in the impeachment inquiry. Alexander Vindman testified that he told his brother about Mr. Trump’s July 25 call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in which Mr. Trump is accused of pressuring his counterpart for a Biden investigation.

 

Alexander Vindman told impeachment investigators that his sibling witnessed the decision to move the call’s transcript to a top-secret server.

 

Word of the Bolton manuscript’s allegations was published Sunday night by The New York Times in the midst of the president’s impeachment trial.

 

Mr. Bolton’s lawyer, Chuck Cooper, issued a statement Sunday night saying that the New York Times’ article showed “the prepublication review process [at the NSC] has been corrupted.”

 

According to Mr. Bolton’s manuscript, Mr. Trump said he wanted the aid held up until Ukraine officials turned over all materials they had about the Russia probe that related to Mr. Biden and supporters of 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

 

The newspaper did not view the manuscript but was told about it by multiple people who had read it. The report said that manuscripts had been circulated among close associates of Mr. Bolton and a copy was submitted to the NSA for review, as is standard procedure for books written by former administration officials.

 

Mr. Trump rejected a reported claim by Mr. Bolton early Monday that he tied military aid to Ukraine to investigations of Democratic candidate Joseph R. Biden.

 

“I NEVER told John Bolton that the aid to Ukraine was tied to investigations into Democrats, including the Bidens,” the president tweeted after midnight. “In fact, he never complained about this at the time of his very public termination. If John Bolton said this, it was only to sell a book.”

America’s Surge Sealift: What Are They Not Telling Us?

By Salvatore R. Mercogliano, Ph.D. – On January 22, 2020, the Inspector General (IG) for the Department of Defense released a declassified and redacted report, entitled, Audit of Surge Sealift Readiness Reporting. The surge sealift fleet, those 15 vessels held by the Navy’s Military Sealift Command (MSC) and the 46 by the Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration (MARAD), are a key component of the nation’s ability to project military power from the continental United States. The recent Turbo Activation 19 Plus exercise in September 2019, tested the reliability of this fleet, and showed it fell far short of the 85% readiness rate required, with an overall performance of 40%. The new IG report indicates that there may be more systemic issues at the root of the problem but fails to adequately identify the underlying cause of these issues.

 

The IG undertook the audit to determine if the U.S. Transportation Command provided, “adequate oversight of the reporting on surge sealift activation requirements.” Specifically, they examined the 50 roll-on/roll-off ships (15 held by MSC and 35 by MARAD), that provide a total of 10.7 million square feet of cargo space for the combatant commanders. The information on the individual ships is reported through the Defense Readiness Reporting System. The information is inputted by MSC based on reports from the contract operators and via the Maritime Administration from their commercial companies.

 

The IG determined that “MSC did not accurately report the readiness status for 15 MSC-owned surge sealift ships during FYs 2017 and 2018.” The cause for this was due to MSC’s reliance on, “ship contractors to accurately report ship readiness.” As a result of inaccurate reporting, US Transportation Command provided unreliable assessments of the surge sealift capability and this, “could lead geographic combatant commanders to make incorrect assumptions.” It also highlights the difference in reporting ship status procedures between MSC and MARAD, an issue previously addressed in a 2019 RAND Corporation report, Approaches to Strategic Sealift Readiness.

 

The Inspector General proposed five recommendations:

 

Verify that deficiencies identified in ship inspection reports match the corresponding contractor-issued casualty reports.

Hold contractors accountable when casualty reports do not match ship inspection reports or are not submitted as required.

Reconcile casualty reports to the ship’s reported status in DRRS-N to ensure accurate ship readiness reporting.

Develop an agreement with MARAD to establish standard criteria for readiness assessments for MSC and MARAD surge sealift ships.

Develop an oversight plan to verify the readiness status of the MARAD ships and coordinate with MARAD to obtain the documentation and establish the process necessary for MSC to perform the oversight.

 

These recommendations will address the reporting by MARAD and MSC to U.S. Transportation Command, but misses the larger issue, why are the companies operating these ships not reporting the issues and how is MSC not assessing the surge sealift fleet’s status? The IG met and interviewed with personnel from MARAD, MSC, and the U.S. Transportation Command but only talked with three ship masters. The IG failed to talk with the companies that operated MSC’s and MARAD’s vessels. Interviewing the companies could have revealed the underlying issue.
