MANILA, Philippines, May 28, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) – The number of cases of online sexual exploitation of children in the Philippines has dramatically increased by more than 250 percent after stay-at-home orders were implemented during the coronavirus pandemic.

 

β€œData from the Department of Justice Office of Cybercrime … revealed the total of cases recorded from March 1 to May 24 reached 279,166 which is 264 percent higher than the cases recorded on the same period of 2019 at 76,561,” reported PTV News. β€œFrom the 2020 record, 132,192 were recorded in March, 53,882 in April, and 93,092 in May.”

 

As pointed out by the Manila Bulletin, β€œmost of the cases include possession, manufacture, and distribution of child pornography; online enticement of children for sexual acts; child sex trafficking; sex tourism involving children; extra-familial child sexual molestation; unsolicited obscene material sent to a child; and misleading words or digital images on the internet.”

 

The Philippine Department of Justice (DOJ) based its statement on data provided by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).

 

According to the DOJ, the enormous increase β€œis attributable to the fact that during the [Enhanced Community Quarantine], strict home quarantine is observed in all households, and internet usage surges as people stay home.”

 

The DOJ noted that β€œthere is no law in the Philippines that directly defines and penalizes” online sexual exploitation of children.

 

Even though sexual exploitation is on the rise in the Asian country, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has said earlier this week that there will be no school until a coronavirus vaccine has been found. Without a vaccine, sending children to school β€œspells disaster,” he claimed.

 

β€œFor me, vaccine first,” he added. β€œIf the vaccine is already there, then it’s okay. If no one graduates, then so be it.”

 

β€œI will not allow the opening of classes where students will be near each other,” Duterte said. β€œUnless I am sure that they are really safe, it’s useless to be talking about opening of classes.”

 

The Philippines are the world’s largest known source of online sexual exploitation of children.

 

β€œA new study released by the Washington-based International Justice Mission on Thursday said Philippine cases of online child sexual exploitation have increased sharply in recent years with parents agreeing to have their own children victimized for the money,” wrote ABC News.

 

NPR noted that also in the United States more minors were abused during the stay-at-home orders put in place by state governments.

 

β€œBy the end of March, with much of the country under lockdown, there was a 22% increase in monthly calls [at the National Sexual Assault Hotline] from people younger than 18, and half of all incoming contacts were from minors.”

 

β€œAs a result of looking at the information that we had from those sessions, it was clear that the abuse was escalating in both frequency and severity,” Camille Cooper, vice president of the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network, told NPR. β€œSo a lot of the kids that were coming to the hotline were feeling pretty vulnerable and traumatized. Sadly, the launch ended up being scrubbed for poor weather, meaning Crist wasn't able to watch the launch while bailing on work.

 

In a tweet Wednesday announcing his planned attendance at the event, Crist made no mention of the fact that his proxy request was made due to the "ongoing health emergency."

 

In fact, a statement included in the tweet stated: "Given his attendance at the launch, Congressman Crist will be voting by proxy in the House of Representatives this week." (emphasis added)

In a statement this week, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) called the new rule "a brazen violation of the Constitution" and "a dereliction of our duty as elected officials."

 

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) added in a tweet that the rule is "unconstitutional" and said: "Let's face it. You gotta show up for work."

 

The Daily Wire reported that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) spoke out on the rule during a Senate floor speech last week, blasting Democrats for "playing games with the Constitution so they can continue their never ending spring break well into July."

The World Health Organization Was Against Quarantines Only Last Year

 

I recommend to you a document written in saner times, and published by the World Health Organization: β€œNon-pharmaceutical public health measures for mitigating the risk and impact of epidemic and pandemic influenza.” It came out in 2019. I’ve embedded it below.

 

When the document says influenza, it is referring to any influenza-like infection which is inclusive of COVID-19; that is, any pandemic virus that happens to come along. In the last 100 years, they give examples of four prior to the current virus.

 

The point of the report is to examine a series of what are called non-pharmaceutical interventions, which can cover the full range of strategies of disease control, from hand washing to surface cleaning to mask wearing to quarantines to travel restrictions. The document contains both good and regrettable material, both of which are covered below. But the standout points for us today are that the World Health Organization only last year solidly recommended against quarantines even if it is only limited to the exposed and sick.

 

It never even considered the notion of universally locking down an entire population. In that sense, it is an improvement over current practice, and evidence that governments around the world threw out long-standing law and tradition in a disease panic, shattering human relationships and the global economy.

 

That said, a major problem with the document is its overly formal approach that seeks to model disease severity and government response.

 

The pandemic influenza severity assessment (PISA) framework was introduced by WHO in 2017. The severity of an influenza epidemic or pandemic is evaluated and monitored through three specific indicators: transmissibility (referring to incidence), seriousness of disease, and impact on health care system and society. The severity is categorized into five levels: no activity or below seasonal threshold, low, moderate, high or extraordinary. The PISA framework is being tested and improved during seasonal influenza epidemics; the aim is to help public health authorities to monitor and assess the severity of influenza, and to inform appropriate decisions and recommendations on interventions.

 

Almost everything here rests on the ability to discern and model disease severity in real-time. The trouble is that we have to make the judgement call in the midst of this pandemic. Dr. Fauci in late February wrote that β€œthe overall clinical consequences of Covid-19 may ultimately be more akin to those of a severe seasonal influenza.” By WHO standards, that would qualify as β€œmoderate.”

Abstract

Masks and respirators do not work. There have been extensive randomized controlled trial (RCT) studies, and meta-analysis reviews of RCT studies, which all show that masks and respirators do not work to prevent respiratory influenza-like illnesses, or respiratory illnesses believed to be transmitted by droplets and aerosol particles.

 

Furthermore, the relevant known physics and biology, which I review, are such that masks and respirators should not work. It would be a paradox if masks and respirators worked, given what we know about viral respiratory diseases: The main transmission path is long-residence-time aerosol particles (< 2.5 ΞΌm), which are too fine to be blocked, and the minimum-infective-dose is smaller than one aerosol particle.

 

The present paper about masks illustrates the degree to which governments, the mainstream media, and institutional propagandists can decide to operate in a science vacuum, or select only incomplete science that serves their interests. Such recklessness is also certainly the case with the current global lockdown of over 1 billion people, an unprecedented experiment in medical and political history.

 

Review of the Medical Literature

Here are key anchor points to the extensive scientific literature that establishes that wearing surgical masks and respirators (e.g., "N95") does not reduce the risk of contracting a verified illness:

Conclusion regarding masks that do not work

No RCT study with verified outcome shows a benefit for HCW or community members in households to wearing a mask or respirator. There is no such study. There are no exceptions. Likewise, no study exists that shows a benefit from a broad policy to wear masks in public (more on this below).

Though I'm not a farmer, I mix with a lot of farmers socially and in the course of business.

A few days ago, I was at a gathering of 30-40 farmers, and none were wearing masks, maintaining social distances, and were acting like normal human beings, shaking hands, hugging, patting on arms and backs, and so forth, against all orders of our Herr Governor.

The ChinaFlu wasn't talked about that I heard, other than the dent it was making in the economy, how it was hurting milk prices and other products.

But I did overhear a conversation, a farm wife was laughing about when she went to the store lately, and saw all those people wearing masks. I can't quote her exactly, but basically, she said it was so stupid, hell, I get cow shit on me everyday, when I clean a milk cow's udders, if the cow shits when I got my face down there, I might get cow shit in my eyes or mouth! I just wipe it off on my sleeve and keep going. If I get cow shit on my hands, I just wipe it off, and don't go washing my hands a hundred times a day. Never hurt me a bit, us farmers are around germs all day every day, and we hardly ever get sick like a cold or flu. Everybody laughed in response, and nodded their heads, saying that's true! They just shook their heads at the craziness of city folk, and went about their business.

There was nothing political about it, nothing said about conspiracies or China, just plain old common sense.

15 years ago I was awoken to the fact that Americans were brainwashed to put their parents into nursing homes thus leading to premature death. Then it started to become obvious it was only white folks who make this insane decision to sacrifice loved ones for the love of money. Hispanics and Middle easterners see it as culturally devastating to put their parents away.

 

Today, 15 years later after fighting the healthcare system and advice from all the "so called" professionals, my very lovable, disabled and sweet mother is still with me despite lost of siblings and sibling help due to disagreements. Sacrifices of my life and finances due to no help from Fed, State and family members.

 

I would have it no other way and could not be more than happy with the decisions I made 15 years ago. Otherwise she would have died 14 years ago if institutionally placed.

 

The question nobody asks Why the hell are your parents even in a nursing home? For the love of God go get them and take care of them yourselves. Nursing homes are simply one of the many devils in disguise.

Depending on the terms of your employment, an employer can fire you for no reason at all (at-will employment).

 

Not wearing a mask would probably hold up as "for cause" unless you were the only one that had to wear the mask or something irrational like that. If it's company policy, yeah, very likely you'd have no recourse (unless it was only enforced vs. you). I don't see why you'd take the risk if it's company policy.

So out of curiosity, not malice, I went down the research rabbit hole to find out the details about this accident, and emerged a week later with a troubling conclusion how Mitt Romney and his team have been deliberately distorting the truth of what actually happened after the accident for 50 years. I feel compelled to share my factually based conclusions for two reasons: 1. Because I love sharing the truth when I've found it, whether those truths be religious, political, or practical, and 2. I see a similar pattern of deception in Romney's campaign to take Utah's Senate seat today. Before accusing me of unfairly dredging up an old, horrible, private tragedy, consider this incident is not something Mitt Romney wants buried in the past. Just the opposite! In June 2007, to introduce himself to the nation in preparation for his first run for the U.S. presidency, he worked with the Boston Globe to publish a puff feature article entitled "Touched by Tragedy, a Leader Emerges from a Life of Privilege" in which this 1968 tragedy was the primary focus as a turning point in his life. In 2012, preparing for his second run at the presidency he again worked with Boston Globe writers to produce his biography "The Real Romney" and again chapter 4 "A Brush with Tragedy" is pivotal: taking him from the day before the accident to his decision to join Bain and company.

 

Some will also accuse me of doing this for personal political gain, since I filed to run for this same Senate race, however I know sharing what I found is going to incur a tidal wave of hateful and accusative comments among my fellow Utah Republicans, and by doing so I am almost assuredly sacrificing any chance I had to be chosen in the coming state delegate convention.

 

I'll start with the few indisputable facts about the tragic accident, compare what happened at Beaulac to what happened at Chappaquiddick (Spoiler alert: Mitt was NOT, I repeat, was NOT responsible for the death of his mission president's wife), then the problems with Romney's contrived narrative after the accident, and finish with how it is relevant to Mitt Romney's campaign today.

George Floyd, fired officer overlapped security shifts at south Minneapolis club

A former club owner in south Minneapolis says the now-fired police officer and the black man who died in his custody this week both worked security for her club up to the end of last year.

 

George Floyd and now-former Officer Derek Chauvin both worked security at the El Nuevo Rodeo club on Lake Street, according to Maya Santamaria. Santamaria owned the building for nearly two decades, but sold the venue within the last few months.

"Chauvin was our off-duty police for almost the entirety of the 17 years that we were open," Santamaria said. "They were working together at the same time, it's just that Chauvin worked outside and the security guards were inside."

 

5 INVESTIGATES has reached out to Chauvin's attorney and the Minneapolis Police Department, but they could not be reached for comment at the time this story was published.

Although the two overlapped working security on popular music nights within the last year, Santamaria can not say for certain they knew each other because there were often a couple dozen security guards, including off-duty officers.

 

Santamaria says she did not recognize either one of her security guards in the video showing Chauvin kneeling on Floyd's neck not far from where they used to work.

 

"My friend sent me (the video) and said this is your guy who used to work for you and I said, 'It's not him.' And then they did the closeup and that's when I said, 'Oh my God, that's him,'" Santamaria said. "I didn't recognize George as one of our security guys because he looked really different lying there like that."

 

Santamaria still operates La Raza 95.7 FM radio station in the same building that houses El Nuevo Rodeo, but a power outage has knocked them off-air as a result of Tuesday's protests. The Latino owned business is two blocks east of where protests erupted in front of the Minneapolis Police Department Third Precinct and spilled into nearby businesses. Like their neighbors, the building's glass doors are shattered and now covered in graffiti.

 

"All of the neighborhood has come out to volunteer and clean up and lend a hand," Santamaria said.

 

Santamaria says they are still updating the Latino community on their Facebook page until they can get power back.

Tyson Foods will shut U.S. pork plant as more workers catch COVID-19

 

Tyson Foods Inc said on Thursday it will temporarily close an Iowa pork plant due to the coronavirus pandemic, a month after U.S. President Donald Trump ordered slaughterhouses to stay open to protect the country’s food supply.

 

Meat processors like Tyson Foods, WH Group’s Smithfield Foods and JBS USA temporarily closed about 20 slaughterhouses last month as workers fell ill with the new coronavirus, leading to shortages of certain products in grocery stores. Production remains lower than normal because of increased absenteeism and social distancing among employees. An Iowa state official said 555 employees at Tyson’s Storm Lake plant tested positive for the virus, about 22% of the workforce.

 

Tyson will stop slaughtering hogs at the facility and finish processing the animals over the next two days, according to a statement.

 

It will resume operations next week following β€œadditional deep cleaning and sanitizing of the entire facility,” the statement said. The closure is due partly to a delay in COVID-19 testing results and employee absences, according to Tyson. Tyson said it conducted large-scale COVID-19 testing at the plant in northwestern Iowa and implemented safety measures to protect employees like requiring them to wear masks.

 

The United Food and Commercial Workers International Union called on the Trump administration and meat companies to do more to protect workers. The union reported more than 3,000 infections and 44 deaths among U.S. meatpacking workers, up from 35 deaths as of May 12.

 

β€œToo many workers are being sent back into meatpacking plants without adequate protections in place, reigniting more outbreaks in the plants and our communities,” said Nick Nemec, a South Dakota farmer who is part of an advocacy group working with the union.

 

The Storm Lake plant slaughters about 17,250 pigs a day when it is running at full capacity, according to industry data. That accounted for about 3.5% of U.S. production before the pandemic.

On Dec 29 Flynn calls a senior transition officer to find out what to say to Kislyak. Flynn learns through the transition offical that members of the presidential transition team did not want Russia to excalate the situation. Flynn then calls Kislyak and asks that Russia not to escalate the situation. The NYT article shows that Kislyak contacted Flynn Dec 28, Flynn contacted a senior transition official, and then Flynn called Kislyak after talking to a senior tranisition official with instructions to ask Kislyak that Russia not escalate the situation.

Another article from Washington Examiner made an interesting observation. "The date on which Biden received the information about Flynn, Jan. 12, was the same day the Washington Post ran a column by David Ignatius containing leaked classified details from Flynn's call with the Russian ambassador." There are many intresting questions that the media seems to ignore and does not ask. For example, it's interesting that Rice sent an email to herself. It's intresting how many people unmasked Flynn in Dec 2016 -Jan 2017. When all the pieces are put together, so much appears NOT to have been done by the book. One anonymous person asks a good question: "Were they trying to create a cause of action for the eventual appointment of a special counsel to continually investigate a President (and his NSI, Flynn) who had done nothing wrong?"
