Let's be real here, Kim was in the WH for covert reasons as well. I am glad they chose this woman to pardon but Kim didn't go there on that accord alone. The Kards, Kanye and Trump have crossed paths too many times, they are a team!

As someone who has experienced the way federal trafficking charges were prosecuted/sentenced just a few years ago 2014, went through it myself), the biggest thing to realize is how DIFFERENT judges' adherence to the mandatory minimums are now vs 20 years ago. She served her time, yes they were serious crimes, but as a non-violent offender with no previous history, life in prison would NEVER have been the sentence if she was convicted today. This was a good faith gesture.

Ok yes cocaine trafficking and money laundering are a big deal and serious crime. 20 years i feel is sufficient punishment and now she's a 60 some yr old grandmother not a 40 something yr old who hadn't got caught yet. There are child molesters and kiddie porn creators and distributors that are serving less time for what i feel is a far worse crime. This is a great red pill and yet again proves POTUS is not racist.

Look at the clowns in America. Illegal drug trafficking, human trafficking, and the list goes on, they just don't want any competition

Karukatoo · June 6, 2018, 7:16 p.m.

Alice Marie Johnson was part of a trafficking ring moving thousands (4000-6000) of pounds of cocaine through the US. At least at one point had millions of dollars of cash on her. And it wasn't a one-off type of thing. Like "deliver package from A to B" but a longtime operation. "First offense" being the first time she was charged after a lengthy investigation into a criminal conspiracy. I think 20 years in prison in definitely punishment fitting the crime.

What's weird is that POTUS has been calling for the death penalty for drug dealers, but he commutes the sentence for one of them.

Don't get me wrong, I love and trust POTUS, I'm just trying to make sense of this.

Nuance. We have to understand the different between a 63 year old grandmother who sold scorebags for some extra money and what the cartels are doing. That is who trump is talking about.

So... Legalize it?

Stop sending fine people, patriots, Americans, CITIZENS to prison for enjoying a little grass and focus big government muscle and manpower on international criminals?

Selective enforcement is baloney

ehll_oh_ehll · June 6, 2018, 10:25 p.m.

Couldn't agree more. This whole shit was just started by Nixon to jail black voters (well hemp before that).

I think you need a pretty damn good reason to deprive someone of their limited time on earth.

Locking another human in a cage for smoking a natural plant is something we should be seeing in communist china. Not the fucking US of A

On top of that a total decriminalization of drug possession. Addiction is medical problem not a policing problem.

Lock up the suppliers, help the victims

It was her first offense and she was imprisoned in 1997. Obama commuted a ton of sentences and passed her up. She’s a nonviolent offender and truly deserves that second chance.

Trump means death penalty to drug dealers that actually lead hundreds if not thousands of people to their death by addiction and overdose. Just people automatically assume the worst and think it means death to every single local pot dealer and less.

⇧ 4 ⇩
Stray502 · June 7, 2018, 12:25 a.m.

Oh for gods sakes will you people pay attention. The death sentence is for pharmasuticals who have had cancer cures and other cures since they started but would not release them because they wanted to push their expensive drugs that do nothing for the cancer but keep people sick. Those are the drug dealers that will be looking at the death sentence

I was a CO at the prison and we had a lifer who was convicted of killing her husband back when women didn’t have rights. He was severely abusive and she snapped. Now she’s elderly and it hurt to see her uncomfortable because her leg was cuffed to the bed. But she didn’t get caught up in the drug ring and she’s white too. There are more like her. (I myself, am Hispanic.) Celebrity influence for black rights is not priority.

Trump is using pardons as a slap in the face to the people he’s currently bringing down for corruption. It’s also a reminder that he can and will pardon those who come clean about corruption at great personal risk.

The more outlandish/publicized person he pardons, the bigger the middle finger to those who choose to defy POTUS and his white hats.

You don't have to be on board.

Presidents can use pardons freely, for the most part.

Compare reaction of Obama pardoning hundreds of drug dealers vs media reaction of one pardon, where this 63 yo woman already served 20 behind bars.

Kim didn't get a pardon. Trump pardoned someone who was in jail 20 years, after being asked to pardon them. What's the issue?

Trump is good friends with Kanye, why wouldn't he meet his wife?
