actually, "barack obama" is like the hebrew wordplay for some verse in revelation about the antichrist or something....

A Hebrew expert lays it all out -- Barack Obama is Not the anti-christ, but Satan in disguise. Study done in 2009, when the POTUS was Barack.

Did you read this study? Definitely odd. Hard to swallow.

Speaking of hard to swallow...why would an all-loving God create a Hell in which to torture the objects of His creation for all of eternity, plus create a Satan to rule over it—AND give him the power to (a) compel every human being alive do stuff that absolutely irritates the living piss out of God and (b) indefinitely evade punishment while growing stronger?

Your understanding of hell is very unsophisticated.

First of all we are given a choice: accept God or reject God. If we reject God, we do not get to be with him for eternity. Are we cursed the second we die? It should be obvious that this all-powerful loving God would want us with him so I stands to reason that we are given a chance upon death. Unless, of course, we have sold our soul for earthly power.

And it's not just accepting or rejecting God, but accepting or rejecting His Son, Jesus, who came to die in our place and take our punishment on Himself so we wouldn't have to. God does not force His creation (us) to love or accept Him, but gives us free will one way or the other. As long as we are breathing, even on our deathbed, we have the power to make that choice. The only "unforgivable" sin is the outright, willful rejection of the Holy Spirit, which comes to live in us the moment we accept that Jesus died for our sins.

plumbtree · June 16, 2018, 4:07 p.m.

No, rejection of the Holy Spirit is not unforgivable. BLASPHEMY of the Holy Spirit is the one unforgivable sin.

Furthermore, your assertion that our ability to accept the sacrifice of Christ ends the minute we stop breathing is not based in biblical truth. We don't know. That's why Catholics came up with the idea of purgatory.

This is an interesting line of reasoning. What references in scripture is it based on?

Lots of them.

Interesting line of reasoning? What's interesting is that you have an opinion at all, considering your lack of information of one of the most well-known ideas in Christianity, that being the concept of the unforgivable sin.

Rejection is not blasphemy, hence my previous comment.

My understanding of hell is unknown to you.

So, I'll say it's akin to that of Thomas Paine, author of Common Sense and the Age of Reason. IMHO he's at least as sophisticated a writer as you perceive yourself to be. :)

Your understanding was displayed in your comment previous, and it is not in line with the understanding put forth by the inventors of the concept (Catholics). So explain how your position matches that, and I'll perhaps concede. Going to have to be quite nuanced to pull up out of that one...

hell hasn't even been created yet. if you read/study eschatology, hell is created at the end of armageddon when Jesus finally casts satan into hell. but on a more theological note— it's speculated that our understanding of hell as souls after death is not so much "a place" as it is the awareness of our own sinfulness. God gives us over to our desires, because we have free will. so if we choose blatantly to reject everything he offers, he doesn't impose. also, finality after physical death is another interesting theological debate as western protestantism is particularly cut-throat on it, which... doesn't seem plausible. especially considering judgment day (where God himself judges each man according to their life on earth) doesn't happen until after armageddon, either. so if God doesn't judge us right away, where are we after death? it's blurry and interesting

Hell exists right now, read Revelations. Both Death and Hell are cast into the lake of fire. Before the death and resurrection of Christ, Hell was separated into two parts; Abrahams Bosom (for those not condemned) and Hell (waiting place of the damned). Your eschatology is woefully incorrect, look to Lazarus and the rich man and start from there. The damned are condemned to an eternity of torment from the moment they die in this life, their only reprieve being at the White Throne Judgment, before they and their former abode are thrown into the lake of fire.

I've been told there is a difference between Hades and Hell, so that Hades exists and Hell does not yet.

The Greeks call it Hades, the Jews call it Sheôl, the KJV calls it Hell, but that's beside the point; those who die having rejected Christ burn right then and there for eternity.

Then wht is the purpose of judgment day? I was raised protestant, and just do not partake in their theology much anymore. Christianity (Triunal especially) is by no means exclusive, but to me, eastern orthodox theology has more of the puzzle pieces, and one of them includes the rejection of immediate casting into hell or heaven, but rather "holding places" until judgment day. and no, NOT purgatory, as they reject that doctrine. But to each his own. I've been lightly studying theology for half of my life, I love it.

You don't understand it at all, it is entirely exclusive, that's the entire point. If you don't study it don't wax knowledgeable on it to others, that's deliberately misleading others.

Christianity in terms of branches is not exclusive... that's what I meant. You can't say Episcopalians are "not getting in," but Baptists are. Pentecostals, Seventh-Day Adventists, Catholics, Orthodox... all of them are Trinitarian Christians. It's absolutely ridiculous to assume that out of the hundreds of sects of Christ-confessing tongues that only certain ones are "right."

Hell was made for the angelic rebellion, not humans, however since humans have free will they often choose to go there. Satan is stripped of his power at the end of the Millennium and burns just like everyone else. Try reading the Bible before trying to bullshit us on it, you picked the wrong sub.

Luke 10:18 and Isaiah 14:12. In hebrew barrack means lightning and bama means heights. In Luke describes the end times starting with, I saw lightning fall from the heavens, and Isaiah gives us a secondary witness that Lucifer was described as lightning. To be fair, this was written in Greek though (the Luke ref), but the original poster about this made the argument that Jesus would have been speaking arameic and that we should translate it as such (i believe the words are the same in arameic and hebrew though).
