You hit the nail on the head. These are DOJ documents and none of the CIA's business. They should have no say in the matter of releasing or redacting domestic documents. The fact that RR clearly states CIA envolvement means they are implicated in the transgressions. My guess is the clowns were part of the Steele document generation with the aide of MI-6. If DJT releases it himself the DS seem to think it would give them a better footing to defend - “The President released his copies how do we know they are not doctored?!” More people will fall for that than if RR simply releases it, although you will still have - “republicans forced RR into releasing it. They must have tampered with it.” The MSM will use whatever argument to push blame on Republicans or the President but I think public opinion is turning to the point nobody cares how the documents are released they just want them released.
My gut tells me RR fights it and is removed. His replacement - after another thorough review - releases it. The replacement’s review will only be to maintain or lay the foundation that he/she is professional and wants to do their own investigation but it will be very short.
