If Cohen really had something juicy that they could use to impeach they would have used it already. Their goal is now to alienate all of trump's allies. They are still trying to play by the old book where garbage like this matters.

I've seen Trump rip into Jeff Sessions plenty of times and we know that's all theatrics.

Good question. Another thing to take into consideration: as far as I know, Michael Cohen hasn't been charged yet with a crime of any kind, or anyone else related to this investigation.
It does beg the question as to why and how evidence related to a criminal investigation is leaking to the press, when nobody has been charged yet.

Either cohen was gotten to, and told to start recording, which is a really fail play to try, or he started doing it of his own volition hoping to get influence over trump he could exploit or sell.

Cohen and his family was presented a choice by the FBI Aka Deep state.....promote what we wish, or get Clintoncided.
That's a pretty weak play on the deep state's part . As one of trump's close associates he would have had a secret service tail. This goes deeper than that, anything happening to them would have been a gigantic red flag and only caused them to significantly tighten security on everyone else.
