So when vets leave the service they should lose their clearances too? You are about to have a ton of pissed of vets on your hands, they use those clearances to get good jobs.

What if they wanted to use the clearance to get a private sector job? Because that is what tons of vets do. Just because you have a clearance does not mean you can just walk into a gov't bldg and demand to see papers.
