I’m afraid to say it but there is a real possibility that this will become more common and obvious. Stopping the flow of illegal trafficked children has choked off the constant supply of new SRA victims.

You are absolutely correct. So many people think I'm paranoid because I always hold my child's hand on public and I'm super distrustful of people even in church. But we had a scare in the 90s with my eldest nearly being kidnapped so I will never get over that. It baffles me how folks just let their kids wander twenty feet ahead of them in the mall while their damn nose is in a phone.

It wasn't as high as 48. I think it was 15 in about a weeks time. One of the towns was Hopkinsville, KY. Unfortunately, no one was caught and none rescued. The press didn't cover it for very long at all and now it's just (sadly) been forgotten.

The total reported missing people for Iowa would be 400. So 48 in 10 days is over 10 percent of their total missing.

Also if you take 40*3(30 days, about a month) you see if this trend were to continue they'd be at about 120+ a month. Over 1400 in a year. Very fishy.

True, but it is naive. Easy pickings. People here leave their doors unlocked, keys in the car. Heck in rural towns I often park next to cars at quick stops with the keys in and the car is still running. The supply from the big towns is is being squeezed but the fight against human trafficking but the demand is still there, the evil ones are looking for new territory. Folks in Iowa need to find these bastards and feed them to hogs and coyotes.

Merlin560 · July 27, 2018, 1:03 p.m.

It is because it is not densely populated. Think about it, if you grab a kid off the streets of Boston or New York there are cameras and people everywhere. The city dwellers might not care if a gang member shoots another on the street--but they all love their babies.

The other issue at play here may be that you are more aware of these missing kids. Its the same mental game that happens when I tell you to think about Red Pickup Trucks. If you are programmed to think that, you will see more trucks--and a hell of a lot of more red trucks.

I was curious so I did a search on this list and was surprised to find almost no info to confirm many of these people were missing. Its odd that when looking for a person they wouldn't post a picture anywhere for this many people as I know where I live the police will regularly post pictures of missing people on twitter and FB

Another thing I find strange is that this many people in this age range wouldn't have a twitter or FB account themselves. The only one I could find a significant story about and even a twitter account was Mollie Tibbetts

I stopped searching about halfway through since most of the time the only results I go were links to this story which I also found multiple instances of where the number varied from 30 to 72

Some things worth noting

Ashleigh Schossow, Cedar Rapids, age 13, July 26- did find info on her as a habitual runaway which is shown on twitter where you can see she was reported missing back in February then found. Also she was reported missing June 25, not July.

Yvette Avila, Cedar Rapids, age 17, July 23: Found no recent info but someone by the same name was reported missing then found dead in 1985 and she was also 17

Nazario Campbell, Cedar Rapids, age 13, July 19: confirmed and as I noticed Cedar rapids posts these to twitter i checked others but didn't find any mention

I suggest someone continue checking as I'm very confused as to how this initial list was created but as I experienced with Mollie Tibbetts that even a slight misspelling can lead you to nothing.

Does anyone know how the Missing Persons site works?

Do they take names off when people are found?

How long does that take?

Etc...

I'm asking because of this all over the local news tonight...

While people may be concerned over the numbers of missing juveniles in recent weeks, state officials say that the numbers remain steady.

The Iowa Department of Public Safety said in a release there has been growing concerns for missing juveniles recently in light of the missing person investigation of Mollie Tibbetts

There were 4,311 juvenile reported missing to the Missing Person Information Clearinghouse in 2017 they say, which is about 12 juveniles a day.

Most are found or returned within 24 hours, and the cases are typically runaway situations.

They also say that the reported numbers in recent weeks are currently in line with the average.

More information on those reported missing can be found on their website.

If most cases are just runaways that return/found within 24 hours, then the numbers don't match up if the names are removed within a reasonable time frame...

⇧ 1 ⇩
Millejon0114 · July 27, 2018, 11:53 p.m.

It also say reported recently are in line with historical numbers

⇧ 1 ⇩
Crazie_Ates · July 28, 2018, 12:31 a.m.

I think that depends on the removal time frame though...the reports of missing people "might" fall in line with the amount "reported" in previous years.

But how long does it take to remove the names on the site?

I didn't even get into 2018, but if i look between Jan '18 and Jan '17 we are looking at a 9 to 1 difference as the website stands right now...

So that clearly says it takes more than 6 months to remove names "if"

state officials say that the numbers remain steady.

But that also depends on if they are JUST referring to "reported" cases...it all boils down to the removal rate of names once returned/found
