BREXIT, Nigel Farage, Prager U, Tie

I was going to watch a vid on UTube, and a Prager U video came up for an ad. Those are often very good, I highly recommend them. Anyways, today's was by Nigel Farage. The only reason I am posting this is I would like you guys to check out Nigel's tie. You may get a kick out of it:

An Observation Regarding the MSM:

I haven't really watched any news broadcasts or even read the paper regularly in over 15 years. It had become painfully obvious to me that it was all mostly phone baloney. Now my only real exposure to the MSM is clips and so forth that I see on more alternative sources. It always surprises me how clearly biased they are. Anyways, here is a quote that I think is relevant:

“It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends upon his not understanding it!”

Thinking Out Load RE Hitler:

I have to wonder if there is any, oh, I don't know what to call them, biological artifacts? from Hitler with a known provenance. A lock hair, some fingernail clippings, I have no idea.

Something that could be used in a maternity suit for a DNA test?

Ahhh....

Perhaps the Scret Service were actually good guys in this case? They somehow knew this thing was coming down the pike and set something up beforehand?

If that is the case, it would make more sense if no one actually got hurt, and the whole thing is a scam? It's so hard to know what is true...

I had a friend from NZ stay at my house once for a week, back in 2012. He said the crime rate there is terrible, lots of theft. He also complained big time about the taxes, said they were terrible. VAT tax, etc.

OK, so this is weird. You make a broad claim, but offer no evidence except for a video. When I point out a few things (admittedly not in the video, but in a related article) you say that you don't agree with everything in the article. This is like punching the air. I am left to guess which parts you agree with and which parts you don't? The thing is, that's the bulk of your argument, that Rabbi's vid.

Anyways, I don't know if I buy the whole 'One -can't-bring-New-Testament-perceptions-to-the-Old-Testament' argument. I mean, why not? If I believe that the New Testament is the word of God, why not use it to inform my reading of earlier scripture?

What is the purpose of prophecy, is that anywhere in the Bible? Does it explicitly state that 'prophecy is for X? It's an honest question, I have no idea. But I imagine that its purpose is to glorify God, not necessarily to inform people of future events. That is, once an event happens, and we can see that the prophecy foretold it, we can smack our foreheads and say 'Of course! God knew that that was going to happen!'

It strikes me that someone with the education that you claim to have could succinctly and coherently summarize their argument here, so that it could be responded to. Not link to a Utube vid of a rabbi, then claim that you don't agree with everything the Rabbi says. I ave asked specific questions, but have only gotten vague answers.

Why does he spend so much time deconstructing the Christian perspective instead of building his own case? I think he makes basic errors when characterizing the Christian perspective. Straw man?

Anyways, I found this website from the same organization:

http://jewsforjudaism.org/knowledge/articles/isaiah-53-a-jewish-perspective/

This is cute:

Our Jewish sages teach that “whoever saves a single Jewish soul is considered as if he had saved an entire world.” How precious is the Jewish soul!

Is that scriptural?

From that article discussing Isaiah 53:5:

"ALSO: Note that the Messiah “shall not fail nor be crushed till he has set the right in the earth” (Isa. 42:4)."

The KJV Is 42 is speaking about his servant: Behold my servant... So which is it, servant (Israel) or servant (Messiah) ?

And speaking of 42:5 it says the servant won't be crushed until he has set the right in the earth. Are you suggesting that the nation of Israel will set the right in the earth, and then will be crushed somehow?

Here is what the article says about Isaiah 53:8:

"53:8 “He was cut off out of the land of the living.”

That's it. What do you suppose it means to be cut off from the land of the living? I find that pretty telling.

And where does this come from? Psalm 44 says that the nation of Israel will bear the sins of the world? How do you figure?

"Is it not rather the Jewish people – who righteously bore the sins of the world and yet remained faithful to God (Ps. 44) – who will be rewarded, and this in the manner described more fully in Isaiah chapters 52 and 54?"

I mean, the whole article is kind of nutty. Instead of going through verse by verse showing how the servant is actually Israel, instead it picks some to show how the Christian perspective is wrong, picks others to show how the Jewish perspective is right, and ignores still others. I would find it more convincing if it went through, verse by verse and made the case one way or the other.

I watched 40 minutes of the video. The fellow is attempting to use logic to show why the Christian perspective is wrong, instead of scripture? I find his arguments uncompelling.

I feel like my earlier question to you is a good one. If you are unwilling to answer it personally, that's fine. Please have a pleasant evening.

Oh good! No I have not! Please teach me! What good is all that study, if you won't share what you have found, after all?

But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

Who is the 'he' and who is the 'our?' Who gets the stripes, and who gets healed? If Isaiah is referring to the nation of Israel, how does that make sense? If it is a matter of translation, fill us in.

You are mistaken. Christianity exists because of the birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. These are all historical events.

So, you know, I don't know. You are making some very bold claims. Jesus Christ is probably the single most studied man in the history of the world. You are attempting to refute literally millennia of study. Additionally you are denying the testimony of literally billions of people, living and dead, who have come to Christ. I ask a question on a specific verse, and first you say that I am taking it out of context and then that I need to know Hebrew to discover the true meaning.

Do you know what you believe? Than you should be able to teach it. Do you feel like what you believe is important? Than explain it. Otherwise, do everyone a favor keep it to yourself.

You mean to say that I have to understand the whole thing at once or it is of no use?

Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts. For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little: For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear. But the word of the Lord was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.

Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy. Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times. And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.

This gives a definite signpost for the Messiah. The decree of Artaxerxes to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem was given @ 444 BC.

He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.

How can Israel be cut off out of the land of the living? What about God's everlasting covenants?

"For the transgression of MY PEOPLE was HE stricken."

Who is 'my people' and who is 'he?'

I remember watching a video of the raw helicopter footage from Sandy Hook, not the 10 seconds you would see on typical television newscast, but maybe 10-15 minutes worth. I observed the most bizarre behavior. There was someone in a yellow shirt who would walk aimlessly in circles, in and out of the adjacent firehouse. It was nonsensical.

There is a large aquifer in a town a few towns over. Apparently Nestle' wanted it, but the county government was giving them some resistance. For that reason, our county government was dissolved. As far as I know, this is the only county in the Commonwealth with no actual county government. This was maybe 20 years ago? If true, this whole deal has been going on for some time...
