NeverTrump Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) fell victim to internet pranksters over the weekend, retweeting the viral hoax that the “Ghost of Kyiv,” an alleged Ukrainian fighter ace, was a man called “Samuyil Hyde.” Tricksters are quick to spread memes naming American comedian Sam Hyde as the culprit in media events such as mass shootings. In this case, Rep. Kinzinger fell for a poor photoshop of Hyde into a cockpit along with an ethnic spin on his name.

 

The meme, which spread quickly on social media after news of the “Ghost of Kyiv” started to trend, is a variant on the long-running Sam Hyde prank, which claims that the American comedian Sam Hyde is responsible for newsworthy events, particularly those involving mass casualties.

 

In a now-deleted tweet, Rep. Kinzinger, who has been censured by the GOP for serving on the January 6 commission, during which he infamously broke down in tears, retweeted one of the pranksters, praising “Samuyil” for “owning” the Russian air force.

The tweet was archived by ProPublica’s Politwoops project, which tracks deleted tweets by public officials.

 

Anonymous pranksters delight in convincing media organizations and public officials that Sam Hyde is responsible for various headline-making events

 

n 2017, for example, pranksters briefly convinced Democrat congressman Rep. Vicente Gonzalez (D-TX) that Sam Hyde was responsible for a mass shooting at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas. Rep. Gonzalez then repeated the hoax on CNN.

 

Pranksters have spread other memes of Hyde participating in the conflict, such as one naming him as a fallen Ukrainian soldier.

 

The “Ghost of Kyiv” is an alleged Ukrainian fighter ace, responsible, according to some viral social media posts, of shooting down six Russian planes.

 

However, the existence of both the pilot and his alleged kill count are still unconfirmed, even by Ukrainian officials.

 

Some on social media continue to eagerly share unconfirmed rumors about the “ghost.”

 

he Russian invasion of Ukraine has created fertile ground for rumors and hoaxes of all kinds.

 

Twitter’s fact-checkers, which reacted with lightning speed to censor President Trump during the 2020 election, as well as the infamous Hunter Biden “laptop from hell” stories, do not appear to be taking significant action to contain misinformation and unconfirmed rumors around the Ukraine conflict.

  1. It’s Not Just the FBI and CIA We’re Talking About Here

 

In the special counsel’s criminal case against Sussmann, Durham’s team revealed that Sussmann had provided the “evidence” of the Alfa Bank-Trump covert communication channel to the FBI on September 19, 2016 and shared an updated version of the Alfa Bank allegations with the CIA on February 9, 2017. According to the special counsel’s office, Sussmann also provided the CIA data that purported to show traffic at Trump-related locations connecting to the “internet protocol” or “IP addresses” of a supposedly rare Russian mobile phone provider.

 

The questioning of Joffe by Alfa Bank’s attorney now suggests Sussmann may have also provided that same data to the Senate Armed Services Committee.

 

It has been known for some time that after Americans elected Trump, Democrats regrouped and continued to push the Russia collusion hoax, including the Alfa Bank angle. The New Yorker, in a 2018 article rehashing the Alfa Bank claims and referring to Joffe with the pseudonym “Max,” wrote that after Trump’s inauguration two Democrat senators “had reviewed the data assembled by Max’s group.”

 

One of the “Democratic senators approached a former Senate staffer named Daniel Jones and asked him to give the data a closer look,” The New Yorker article continued. Jones then spent a year researching the Alfa Bank allegations and writing a report for the Senate.

 

According to The New Yorker’s coverage, then, the senators had the data and provided it to Jones. Jones confirmed that sequence when a former Sen. Dianne Feinstein staffer and founder of the left-wing The Democracy Integrity Project sued Alfa Bank seeking to keep confidential his deposition testimony and documents provided to the Russian bank.

 

In his complaint, Jones stated in court filings that in early-to-mid 2017, the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee asked him to research the alleged connections between Alfa Bank and the Trump Organization. Specifically, the Senate committee “requested that Mr. Jones evaluate information it had received about DNS look-ups between Alfa Bank servers and Trump Organization servers.”

 

Significantly, Jones stated that the Senate Committee informed him “that the source of the DNS records had a history of providing accurate information, a lengthy history of reliably assisting the U.S. law enforcement and intelligence communities and was an individual or entity with sensitive contracts with the U.S. government.” Jones added that he met with a representative for the source of the DNS records at the committee’s request.

The United States and Ukraine agreed yesterday to work jointly to prevent the spread of biological weapons, signing a pact that clears the way for Ukraine's government to receive U.S. aid to improve security at facilities where dangerous microbes are kept.

 

The agreement, the result of more than a year of negotiations, was announced by Sens. Richard G. Lugar (R-Ind.) and Barack Obama (D-Ill.) during a visit to the Ukrainian capital, Kiev. The senators credited Ukraine's reformist leaders, ushered into power by last fall's Orange Revolution, with breaking bureaucratic resistance to the pact.

 

One lab to receive funding is the I.I. Mechnikov Antiplague Scientific and Research Institute, in the Black Sea port city of Odessa. The institute was part of a Cold War network of "antiplague" stations that supplied highly lethal pathogens to Soviet bioweapons factories.

 

"This agreement will allow us to begin addressing the problems faced by the Odessa antiplague institute and places like it," said Mark Helmke, a staff member for the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, which Lugar chairs. Under the pact, the United States will fund security upgrades at key Ukrainian biological institutes and support peaceful research by Ukrainian scientists to fight the spread of natural diseases, Helmke said. The amount of funding has not been determined.

 

The senators' visit to Russia and Ukraine was disrupted Sunday when local authorities refused to allow the delegation's military plane to leave Perm, a city in Russia's Ural Mountains. The officials demanded that they be allowed to search the plane, then relented after several hours and allowed the aircraft to proceed to Ukraine, a spokesman for Lugar said. Yesterday, Russia's Foreign Ministry formally apologized for the incident.

OPEC+ producers are likely to maintain the current policy of 400k BPD monthly hikes, according to sources. However, the upcoming meeting will be more complex than the previous confabs given recent/ongoing major events: Russia's invasion of Ukraine, progress on the Iranian Nuclear Deal, and Brent sustaining above USD 100/bbls. Looking at where the group stands. OPEC-13 members are in something of a sweet spot with regards to the oil price, not being involved in a war, and as Russian crude looks less attractive. Conversely, the group faces the prospect of Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) releases alongside Iranian oil legally entering the market, which would provide less of an incentive to open the taps beyond the pact. Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell will try to reassure lawmakers this week that the central bank will act to curb the hottest inflation in four decades while remaining flexible in the face of uncertainty posed by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. by Toby Sterling (Reuters) – Most traffic to and from Russia at Europe’s biggest port is continuing with minimal disruption as key energy products such as crude oil and LNG are not covered by EU sanctions against Moscow, a spokesperson for Rotterdam port said on Tuesday.

 

However, there is some confusion among shipping companies and customs officials are conducting extra examinations of containers that may contain goods covered by the sanctions, Sjaak Poppe said, adding this was affecting individual firms.

 

“When there’s uncertainty (for outbound containers), a company may say ‘well, we won’t load it then’,” he said, adding that uncertainty over inbound containers could see cargo remaining on theship.

 

He said there were no significant delays in the port at the moment.

 

Around 30% of raw oil and 25% of liquefied natural gas (LNG) that moves through Rotterdam comes from Russia.

 

On Monday, shipping giant Maersk halted all container shipping to and from Russia. Britain, not a member of the European Union, moved to close its ports to Russia-linked ships.

 

Poppe said the overall impact in Rotterdam was limited for now. The port will follow instructions of governments if they impose additional restrictions, he said.

 

Around 10% of container transport in Rotterdam is linked to Russia. The EU has forbidden the export to Russia of a large number of “dual use” goods that could have military as well as civilian applications.

 

Many goods from Russia, including steel, copper, aluminum and nickel do not fall under the current restrictions, the port said.

 

“Companies will have to make individual choices about how they handle Russian shipments,” the port said in a statement.

Russia Bans Transfer of Ruble Bond Coupon Payments to Foreigners

 

The Russian central bank has banned coupon payments to foreign owners of ruble bonds known as OFZs in what it called a temporary step to shore up markets in the wake of international sanctions.

 

The Bank of Russia issued the instruction to depositaries and registries as part of a raft of measures announced this week that included a freeze on local security sales by foreigners. It was unclear how long the ban would last. “Issuers have the right to make decisions on the payment of dividends and the making of other payments on securities and transfer them to the accounting system,” the central bank said in an emailed reply to questions. “However, the payments themselves will not be made by depositories and registrars to foreign clients. This also applies to OFZ.”

 

The decision was taken to “avoid mass sales of Russian securities, the withdrawal of funds from the Russian financial market and to support financial stability,” it said. With as much as half of its foreign reserves frozen abroad by sanctions aimed at punishing the Kremlin for invading Ukraine, the Bank of Russia said Monday it would harden capital controls with a ban on transferring foreign currency abroad. While initially it clarified that the step wasn’t aimed at stopping the servicing of debt, some investors and economists said the phrasing of the decree could amount to a default.

You have to have an account to view it...I don't any longer but I can tell you that focusing on that portion of it is worthless as it's always the same banks doing the same thing.

You may see some of the older ones show up now and then but it's always JP Morgan, Citigroup, Goldman Sachs, HSBC and Morgan Stanley used to be active.

Bank of America is a recent addition and I cannot recall ever seeing them do anything here until the leasing bullshit started to appear in public.

Oil Hits $110 As Biden Begins SOTU Address; Goldman Says Emergency Oil Release Won't Do Jack

 

With Joe Biden set to begin his first State of the Union address any second, it is only appropriate that WTI oil has exploded higher, and just printed at an 8 year high of 108.63, rising more than $3 since the cash market close, and more than $10 in the past 24 hours!

 

At the same time, Brent which traditionally trades at a premium, just hit $110: *BRENT CRUDE OIL EXTENDS RALLY ABOVE $110 A BARREL

 

One reason for that is a rather grim assessment from Goldman which echoes what we said earlier, namely that today's IEA release of 60 million barrels of emergency oil reserves will do exactly nothing to halt oil's tremendous surge higher.

 

As Goldman's Damien Courvalin writes, writing about the release of 60 mb of emergency oil reserves following Russia's invasion of Ukraine "we do not view this as sufficient relief, representing an only 1-month offset to a potential disruption to one-third of Russia's 6 mb/d seaborne oil export flows, for example, consistent with the rally in prices after today's announcement."

 

As such, Goldman reiterates its view - discussed here yesterday - that only demand destruction (just like in 2007-2009) - through even higher prices - is now likely the only sufficient rebalancing mechanism, with supply elasticity no longer relevant in the face of such a potential large and immediate supply shock.

Boeing and Ford suspend operations in Russia.

 

Two major U.S. manufacturers, Boeing and Ford Motor, suspended their business activities in Russia as the country escalated its war in Ukraine.

 

Boeing said on Tuesday that it had halted major operations in its Moscow office and temporarily closed another office in Kyiv, Ukraine. The company also said that it had ceased providing parts, maintenance and technical support services to Russian airlines. In recent days, countries around the world have imposed sanctions on Russian carriers, limiting their ability to use leased planes; fly over Western Europe; or buy spare parts.

 

Boeing employs several thousand people in Russia, Ukraine and a handful of former Soviet states, an operation that includes a major design center in Moscow. The company also runs a flight training campus and research and technology center in the city and has a joint venture in Russia with VSMPO-AVISMA, Boeing’s largest titanium supplier.

U.S. Will Ban Russian Aircraft From Flying Through Its Airspace

 

President Joe Biden will announce that U.S. airspace is being closed to Russian airlines in his State of the Union address, joining most European nations and Canada in response to the invasion of Ukraine, said two people familiar with the government’s decision. The people asked not to be named speaking about the issue prior to the announcement Tuesday night.

 

The action is largely symbolic since earlier airspace closings have made it very difficult for Russian aircraft to reach the U.S. from most locations. Canada blocked two Aeroflot flights attempting to return to Russia from the U.S. on Monday.

 

United Airlines Holdings Inc. said on Tuesday it would stop flying over Russia, which its daily flights to India had done. American Airlines Group Inc. and Delta Air Lines Inc. had earlier said they stopped flying over Russia on Feb. 23.

Ukraine foreign minister asks China to mediate ceasefire

 

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba ( this guy is a human piece of SHIT) called on his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in a phone call Tuesday for help from Beijing in mediating a ceasefire with Russia. "Ukraine is willing to strengthen communications with China and looks forward to China playing a role in realizing a ceasefire," Kuleba said, according to a Chinese statement.

 

Wang did not comment on the matter, but said Beijing advocates respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries, and urged Ukraine and Russia "to find a solution through negotiations."

 

Ending the war with Russia is Kuleba's top priority, he said, and despite the lack of progress, Ukraine would maintain its composure and continue with negotiations.

 

"The security of one country should not be achieved at the expense of the security of other countries, and that regional security cannot be achieved by expanding military blocs," Wang said.

 

China has been carefully wording its position amid the Ukraine war. Beijing has been reluctant to call the conflict a "Russian invasion" and at the same time insists on respect for sovereignty, including Ukraine. China also abstained from a vote on a U.N. Security Council resolution condemning Russia, leaving Moscow isolated.

 

If China is to mediate, it appears that Beijing would also have to coordinate playing such a role with Moscow.
