Last week, Oregon became the first state to mandate businesses to only allow those who show proof of Covid vaccination to allow their customers to not wear a face mask. It’s a clear indicator of a two-tier society forming in leftist regions of the country, as Democrat Naomi Wolf noted in a video she released.

“Hi, this is Naomi Wolf from DailyClout and the Five Freedom’s Campaign,” she began. “I’m so sad to be reporting that I’m here in the beautiful state of Oregon and Oregon became the first state in the union to mandate vaccine passports as a condition for entering a business or house of worship without a mask.”

“On the 19th of May, 2021, just a couple of days ago, the Oregon Health Authority, which is turning into a fascist agency, issued a mandate saying that businesses have an obligation,” she said. “If they’re going to allow people in without a mask, to allow in people who show a vaccine confirmation, and to not allow people in without a mask if they cannot or will not show confirmation of vaccination. And this is businesses, it’s houses of worship, it’s all across the state.”

“So, they’re putting an obligation on businesses to police their customers and create a two-tier society exactly like Jim Crow laws,” she continued. “I don’t mean to belittle the horrible history of Jim Crow laws, but it’s literally this kind of legislation, some people are better than other people, some people are more equal than others and they get the privilege of removing their masks.”

As bad as the ACLU normally is in their “woke” form of social justice, they are on the right side of this particular issue, as Wolf explained.

“The ACLU wrote an op-ed saying this is the beginning of a two-tier society,” Wolf said. “And I can tell you that I was in Newport, Oregon, just a couple of days ago and there was already a sign outside of a touristy curio shop saying ‘if you’re going to take your mask off inside you need to show proof of vaccination.'”

“I can tell you that this mandate has created already a fascistic atmosphere in Oregon,” Wolf concluded. “People are policing people in stores to make sure they’re six feet apart. If your mask slips you’re told to move it up over your face. But this is a dark day in history, the first vaccine passports in the United States of America, Oregon, May 19, 2021.”

China Braces for $1.3 Trillion Maturity Wall as Defaults Surge

Even by the standards of a record-breaking global credit binge, China’s corporate bond tab stands out: $1.3 trillion of domestic debt payable in the next 12 months. That’s 30% more than what U.S. companies owe, 63% more than in all of Europe and enough money to buy Tesla Inc. twice over. What’s more, it’s all coming due at a time when Chinese borrowers are defaulting on onshore debt at an unprecedented pace.

The combination has investors bracing for another turbulent stretch for the world’s second-largest credit market. It’s also underscoring the challenge for Chinese authorities as they work toward two conflicting goals: reducing moral hazard by allowing more defaults, and turning the domestic bond market into a more reliable source of long-term funding.

While average corporate bond maturities have increased in the U.S., Europe and Japan in recent years, they’re getting shorter in China as defaults prompt investors to reduce risk. Domestic Chinese bonds issued in the first quarter had an average tenor of 3.02 years, down from 3.22 years for all of last year and on course for the shortest annual average since Fitch Ratings began compiling the data in 2016. “As credit risk increases, everyone wants to limit their exposure by investing in shorter maturities only,” said Iris Pang, chief economist for Greater China at ING Bank NV. “Issuers also want to sell shorter-dated bonds because as defaults rise, longer-dated bonds have even higher borrowing costs.” The move toward shorter maturities has coincided with a Chinese government campaign to instill more discipline in local credit markets, which have long been underpinned by implicit state guarantees. Investors are increasingly rethinking the widely held assumption that authorities will backstop big borrowers amid a string of missed payments by state-owned companies and a selloff in bonds issued by China Huarong Asset Management Co. The country’s onshore defaults have swelled from negligible levels in 2016 to exceed 100 billion yuan ($15.5 billion) for four straight years. That milestone was reached again last month, putting defaults on track for another record annual high. The resulting preference for shorter-dated bonds has exacerbated one of China’s structural challenges: a dearth of long-term institutional money. Even before authorities began allowing more defaults, short-term investments including banks’ wealth management products played an outsized role. Social security funds and insurance firms are the main providers of long-term funding in China, but their presence in the bond market is limited, said Wu Zhaoyin, chief strategist at AVIC Trust Co., a financial firm. “It’s difficult to sell long-dated bonds in China because there is a lack of long-term capital,” Wu said.

Chinese authorities have been taking steps to attract long-term investors, including foreign pension funds and university endowments. The government has in recent years scrapped some investment quotas and dismantled foreign ownership limits for life insurers, brokerages and fund managers. But even if those efforts gain traction, it’s not clear Chinese companies will embrace longer maturities. Many prefer selling short-dated bonds because they lack long-term capital management plans, according to Shen Meng, director at Chanson & Co., a Beijing-based boutique investment bank. That applies even for state-owned enterprises, whose senior managers typically get reshuffled by the government every three to five years, Shen said. The upshot is that China’s domestic credit market faces a near constant cycle of refinancing and repayment risk, which threatens to exacerbate volatility as defaults rise. A similar dynamic is also playing out in the offshore market, where maturities total $167 billion over the next 12 months.

For ING’s Pang, the cycle is unlikely to change anytime soon. “It may last for another decade in China,” she said.

One of the most infamous pedophiles and hosts of child abuse and rape pornography abruptly retired today, marking the end of an era for one of the most extreme and reviled corners of the Deep Web.

Known only as Lux, the anonymous man shut down his network of almost a dozen websites that he proudly called PedoEmpire. The reasons, he wrote, were due to an unspecified “personal issues which my close friends have been made aware of that have forced me to make this decision.”

The shutdown, which was first reported on Deep Dot Web, comes nearly three years after Lux was first introduced to the world of Deep Web child abuse via posts on 4chan, the controversial imageboard.

From its founding, PedoEmpire has used powerful Tor anonymizing software to protect the identity of its thousands of users. While other major illegal pornography websites were knocked offline by law enforcement or hacktivists, PedoEmpire persisted despite constant pressure and death threats to its founder and members.

Lux began his Deep Web journey in 2011 when the hacktivist group Anonymous launched #OpDarkNet in an effort to knock some of the biggest child abuse websites offline. The operation was promoted heavily on 4chan in particular, calling all members to help the distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks that would, it was hoped, kill the child porn sites for good.

Although the operation gained worldwide press and the child porn sites went dark, the victory was brief. The sites that were targeted returned within hours and grew many times over thanks in part to the attention they received. Additionally, the 4chan posts led Lux to discover the numerous pedophile forums that exist on the Deep Web. Before long, he said he was “hooked.”

“At first I felt ashamed in myself for being attracted to such a thing,” he told the Daily Dot, “but as time went on I slowly grew more accepting of myself. It wasn’t until I came across the Tor pedo community that I was able to truly feel comfortable with attractions.”

Lux’s most notorious website, known as “Hurt 2 the Core,” was built to be the home of a subculture known as HurtCore, a genre of pornography that is exactly what the name suggests. HurtCore exalts in violent and real depictions of rape and sexual assault often including, in Hurt 2 the Core’s case, children of all ages.

“‘Hurt 2 the Core’ is the only site that is advertised for hurtcore [on the Hidden Wiki],” an anonymous pedophile said in an interview with the Daily Dot, describing a directory of Deep Web sites. “A few other sites may tolerate it to a limited extent, but most of the community hates anyone who hurts kids, and shuns those who have fantasies about doing so.”

In 2013, the FBI shut down Freedom Hosting, a service it called the “largest facilitator of child porn on the planet.” Lux, who initially used Freedom Hosting for all of his website, moved his self-styled empire to its own personal hosting. Eventually, he built anonymous image-sharing services, video streaming, chat rooms, forums, and even a hosting service designed to replace the fallen Freedom Hosting.

The launch of PedoEmpire began in earnest in early 2013, when Lux became vocally dissatisfied with the state of the Deep Web pedophile world. He chafed under the rules of another popular pedophile forum that forbade HurtCore and launched his own counter websites to allow “complete freedom,” he said.

Another anonymous pedophile forum user emailed me a selection of some of the most popular threads on Hurt2TheCore threads from last year. It’s sickening stuff, with titles like “Producing kiddie porn for dummies” and “Need ideas for blackmailed girl.”

Lux isn’t a fan of hurtcore, rape, beastiality, and most of the other kinks often seen on H2TC, he claimed to the Daily Dot, but he trumpets his users’ freedom above all else. He has markedly less concern for the freedom of the actual children in the porn, it seems, although he believes that most members are only describing fantasies and would “never dream of doing such acts in real life.”

“If anyone had ever done such a thing to any of the kids I know, I would put a bullet in their head,” he told me in an email. “Given that, I still think that people who have interest in such things should have a place where they’re able to voice their opinions and desires.”

Myanmar coup latest: Clashes intensify in anti-junta conflicts

10:00 p.m. Fighters opposed to Myanmar's military junta clash with troops in the east of the country, claiming to have killed more than 13 members of the security forces. Members of the People's Defense Force, set up since the coup, told the Irrawaddy news service that they had killed the security force members when they overran a police station near the town of Mobye. An alliance of four ethnic armed groups which are also against the coup battled early Sunday with security forces in Muse, one of the main crossings to China, according to Myanmar media.
