Quick Durham news rundown:

FISA warrants were used by members of the the intelligence community, at the behest of the Obama administration, to illegally spy on Trump (and others), in order to prevent him from being elected.

The FISA courts are these obfuscated, private courts which determine who and who cannot be spied upon. They are unlike any other court in the land, in that someone can't defend themselves in it.

They're also something of a rubber stamp factory.

To get a FISA warrant, you need to have a good reason and present your case, since basically, this court is designed to violate everyone's 4th Amendment rights by design.

One of the ways Trump was targeted was by spying on people close to him. FISA warrants allow for several "hops." So if you get a warrant to spy on, idk, Tom, and Tom talks to Harry, you can now spy on Harry as well, since Harry is now deemed a person of interest. And if Harry talks to Trump, you can now spy on Trump.

IE: The Intelligence Apparatus was ordered by Obama to spy on people in close proximity to Trump, in order to hide the fact that Trump was the intended target of the spying.

Kevin Clinesmith is now pleading guilty to fabricating evidence used to obtain a FISA warrant to spy on Carter Page, which was really used to spy on Trump.

And remember the stakes here: This was all to frame Trump as working with the Russians to steal the election. That's treason. That's potentially public execution. They were willing to have Trump and others executed, if need be.

Which means… this whole spying operation is actually the real treason.

Which means… we want to know how high up this goes. (In fact, we know. It goes to basically all the heads of the Intelligence community, and into the Oval Office, all the way up to Obama and Biden).

So questions now emerge:

Who ordered him to fabricate the email?

Clinesmith is something of an underling. Not a huge player, and will probably be imprisoned for a loooooong time. But the people above him have got to be panicking heavily right now, because their heads are next on the chopping block.

If Clinesmith agreed to plead guilty, it's because they have these people dead-to-rights, and he's only doing so to minimize his own sentence.

She is, after all, an adherent of the crackpot QAnon theory that says Donald Trump is secretly at war with nefarious forces of evil, including Democrats, Hollywood celebrities, the "deep state," cannibals, and an underground ring of Satanic pedophiles.

Greene has also, of course, been criticized for a number of racist comments and offensive videos.

But just below the surface, we're learning quite a bit more about the Georgia Republican's stunning record.

Before running for office, Republican congressional candidate Marjorie Taylor Greene wrote dozens of articles as a "correspondent" for a conspiracy news website, according to archived web pages uncovered by NBC News. In posts published on the now-defunct "American Truth Seekers" website in 2017, Greene wrote favorably of the QAnon conspiracy theory, suggested that Hillary Clinton murdered her political enemies, and ruminated on whether mass shootings were orchestrated to dismantle the Second Amendment.

Alas, there's no reason to stop here. Media Matters noted a different video in which Greene suggested the Obama administration partnered with a street gang murder Democratic National Committee staffer. The same report added that the GOP congressional candidate also falsely implicated Hillary Clinton in the death of John F. Kennedy Jr."

Commodity trade financing by the world’s banks is drying up at a rate not seen in more than 20 years, leaving small and medium sized firms most exposed, banking and trading sources said. Banks are retrenching after the chinavirus crisis led to defaults by some trading houses, intermediaries in the global movement of oil, metals and agricultural goods which link producers and end-users, and also exposed a series of frauds.

Credit facilities allow merchants to juggle multiple transactions, but with competition between banks set to fall, credit costs will rise for trading houses, which are typically highly leveraged and rely on trade finance. Big banks seeking to reduce trade finance exposure are likely to favour lending to the well established large independent merchants such as Vitol and Trafigura. Meanwhile, smaller players will likely see their options limited and their credit costs rise as they are forced to turn to second tier banks. “Banks exiting will create a massive black hole for small traders and will increasingly put the oil market into the pockets of majors,” a senior oil industry source said.

Trading and banking sources say others may follow ABN and that some banks have already frozen existing credit lines, letters of credit and new business. Major traders have been big users of revolving credit facilities (RCFs), where a consortium of banks allow a company to repeatedly borrow up to an agreed upon maximum threshold.

However, banks dislike these loans as they are not only cheap for the borrower but also unsecured, with short maturities of usually no more than a year which must be renewed. Depending on how many banks exit or reduce their commodity financing, even large traders may not be immune, potentially driving those with assets to the capital markets.

But this would not be enough to fill the whole gap. Bankers are already focused on further regulation, with new requirements under the fourth phase of the Basel Accord, expected to have unintended consequences even though they do not focus on trade finance.

Astronomers have discovered a surprisingly orderly, almost copy of our Milky Way galaxy 12.4 billion light-years away which may upend our current theories about galactic formation and evolution.

Our galactic almost-twin is called SPT0418-47 (not quite as catchy as the Milky Way), and is a flat, rotating disc with a similar mass to our own galaxy, though it wasn’t blessed with spiralling arms.

It is the earliest galaxy yet discovered with a so-called ‘galactic bulge,’ a tightly packed group of stars at its core, which apparently formed when the universe was just 1.4 billion years old.

What’s more, we might never have spotted it, were it not for some cutting-edge tech combined with pioneering computer modeling techniques, along with a large dose of good fortune.

Our current generation of extremely powerful telescopes has allowed us to peer farther in time and space than ever before but it was actually a fortuitous “introduction” by a third galaxy, located between us and SPT0418-47, that allowed us to see our galactic doppelganger.

This third galaxy created what is known as a gravitational lens, where space time is bent around a massive object, creating a magnified, if somewhat distorted, ring-shaped projection of SPT0418-47 which was spotted by astronomers using the the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array in Chile.

This projection was then analyzed and painstakingly reconstructed using advanced computer modeling techniques to reveal the most Milky Way-like galaxy ever found, but formed during the first 10 percent of the universe’s life, and therefore forcing a rethink of our current understanding.

“What we found was quite puzzling; despite forming stars at a high rate, and therefore being the site of highly energetic processes, SPT0418-47 is the most well-ordered galaxy disc ever observed in the early Universe,” said astrophysicist Simona Vegetti of the Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics.

The discovery forces us to reshape our understanding of how galaxies both form and evolve, which didn’t take as long as we thought as it turns out.

Sales at electronics and appliance stores jumped much higher in July, pushing up overall sales despite a reported decline in sales of autos.

Retail sales at electronics and appliance stores jumped 22.9 percent on a seasonally adjusted basis, following a 37.6 percent gain in the prior month, data published by the Commerce Department on Friday showed. Compared with a year ago, July’s appliance and electronics sales were down 2.8 percent.

For the first seven months of the year, sales at electronic and appliance stores are down 18.6 percent.

Overall retail sales rose at a seasonally adjusted 1.2 percent, below the consensus forecast for a 2 percent growth. Excluding autos, however, sales were up 1.9 percent, beating expectations for a 1.5 percent gain.

Overall retail sales grew 8.4 percent in June after a double-digit percentage rise in May. Three months of gains has pushed sales above the pre-pandemic level seen in February, a remarkable recovery following unprecedented declines as much of the economy shut down in March and April to combat the coronavirus.

Auto sales have reportedly been strong since the economy reopened but the Commerce Department’s data showed sales falling 1.2 percent in July. In June, auto sales were up 9.1 percent. Compared with a year ago, auto sales were up 6.1 percent.

Sales at gas stations were up for a second consecutive month, rising 6.2 percent as gas prices moved up. Compared with a year ago, gas station sales were down 15.6 percent.

Grocery store sales rose 0.4 percent and they are 10.6 percent higher than a year ago. Over the first seven months of the year, grocery store sales are up 12.8 percent.

Sales in restaurants and bars rose 5 percent following the June reopening surge of 26.7 percent. Compared with a year ago, sales were down 18.9 percent. Year to date, sales are down 21.4 percent.

Clothing store sales were up 5.7 percent but are still down 21.9 percent compared with a year ago. Year to date, sales at these stores have plunged 36.5 percent.

Sales at home improvement stores slipped 2.9 percent for the month but were 14.8 percent higher than a year ago. Year to date, sales are up 11.3 percent.
