Sweeping US ban on Chinese cotton could ‘wreak havoc’ on supply chains, major industry group warns

 

The US’ plans to block imports of cotton from China’s Xinjiang region over the alleged use of forced labor could be impossible to enforce, the US apparel association said, adding that the move may jeopardize global supply chains.

 

In addition to five Withhold Release Orders (WROs) targeting cotton, computer parts and hair products made by Xinjiang-based companies issued earlier this week, the Trump administration is currently considering a broader ban on imports from the region. New restrictions, expected to be announced in the coming days, may cover cotton and tomato shipments from the Muslim-majority Chinese province.

 

Testifying at Thursday's hearing of the House of Representatives Ways and Means trade subcommittee, American Apparel and Footwear Association President and CEO Steve Lamar said that a “blanket WRO” would not have the desired impact on the alleged abuses in Xinjiang. Given that Xinjiang cotton makes up 20 percent of the world’s supply, it would be hard to quickly replace those imports and the whole industry may feel the impact of the ban, he warned.

 

“Such a WRO would no doubt make headlines, but it would wreak unending havoc to human rights, economic development, and legitimate supply chains – which are already battered by Covid-19 – all over the world,” he told the hearing. “As a country, we simply do not have the capability or capacity to implement, comply with, or enforce a blanket WRO. Given these constraints, such a WRO would take years before it would have its desired impact in China.”

 

The head of the industry group also noted that the cotton from the Chinese region can easily end up in final products made all over the world, “accounting for tens of billions of dollars of trade in supply chains that employ millions of workers.” There is no technology that can definitely trace the origin of the material, but the industry group believes that Xinjiang cotton is used in other apparel producing countries, including Bangladesh, Vietnam, Cambodia and Indonesia among others.

 

China’s Xinjiang has been put under the spotlight in recent months, with the US accusing Beijing of human rights violations in the region and oppressing the local Uighur population. The US Commerce Department has added dozens of Chinese entities onto its black list for involvement in alleged abuses, which Beijing has repeatedly denied.

 

Earlier this week, China said the US uses the alleged violations as a pretext to target Chinese firms. Speaking at a news conference on Tuesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said the US imports ban was “sabotaging global supply chains.”

The leading 'culprit' for these elevated levels of unemployment benefits seekers has been California.

And at an aggregate level, the biggest driver of composite jobless claims levels across America has been the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) - a federal relief program intended for self-employed workers and independent contractors…

 

So, what is going on?

 

The answer is simple:

As Bloomberg reports, between mid-August and the first week of September, applications for PUA doubled in California to more than 524,000, far above claim levels when the federal program first launched in April, the state’s Employment Development Department said Thursday.

 

But, EDD admitted rather stunningly that after taking action to deter suspected scammers from filing false applications in hopes of getting payments, PUA applications dropped sharply to 145,790, a decline of more than 72%.

 

In addition, Bloomberg reports that California’s figures show a wide discrepancy with nationally-reported data on continuing PUA claims in California. While the federal Department of Labor reports that more than 6 million Californians are claiming PUA benefits each week…

A Quick Overview on Filling of Vacancies:

 

A contentious and closely followed element of modern American politics is the Supreme

Court nominee approval process, all the more so because it occurs outside the

timetable of fixed deadlines and comes up only infrequently. One of the

relevant issues in the selection of Supreme Court nominees is the consideration

of when such a procedure is necessary.

Despite the fairly low number of Supreme Court nominees, most Presidents have been able at least once to

submit a Supreme Court nominee of their own to fill a vacancy in the bench. Up

Court nominee. In this regard, the Presidential power for selecting Supreme Court

nominees is considered one of the most lasting aspects of a president’s legacy.

 

Article II, “The Executive Branch,” provides this power to

The full process of hearings and approval for Supreme Court nominees is not set

out under law, but this stipulation does allow for such assorted procedures,

which evolved into their modern form over the full course of the Court’s

history. The Congressional practice of questioning Supreme Court nominees first

appeared in 1925 and was set as established procedure in 1955.

 

The questioning of a Supreme Court nominee takes place before the Senate Judiciary

Committee, which then decides whether or not to recommend a general vote on the

nominee’s acceptability. After this point, however, a Supreme Court nominee may

still be denied the consideration of a vote through the tactic of a filibuster

or by the President’s reconsideration. The process of approving a Supreme Court

1) Natural Quinine Tonic water + Chelated Zinc + D3. These should work to stop a concurrent or future Corona virus (flu, Wuhan…) infection without CQ or HCQ (Chloroquine & Hydroxychloroquine). 2 servings a day for the first week, perhaps?

 

2) CQ + Chelated Zinc + D3 if you are at high risk (older, ill), in a medical environment and/or high (human) traffic/contact situation. You'll have to get a doctor to agree to the CQ prescription in western nations since it is extremely safe, but Acetaminophen is available over the counter since it's extremely dangerous. 3) Add HCQ (Hydroxychloroquine) only if actively sick (it has some side effects) and for a limited time. Intravenous vitamin C starting at 10+grams/day minimum if in very bad shape; plus, I.V. Glutathione. Vitamin C and Glutathione are needed to counter the oxidative damage caused by the ACE2 receptor destruction (Medcram video links below) and general inflammation and clotting.

 

4) Latest info: Steroid Dexamethasone helps with the inflammation damage of the lungs. This is pre-medical student information. Lots of steroids help in reducing inflammation damage (lung in this case), they are prescribed for this very reason every day in every hospital around the world. Why are they so late announcing the obvious (June 2020)? Steroids are also VERY dangerous for those that are ill, lots of very bad side effects. Only take in a hospital setting and preferably not at all.

 

5) There is no possibility of a Wuhan 'resistant' strain to the HCQ/CQ/Quinine+Zinc treatment. It works via basic biochemistry (stopping Replicase) that the Wuhan (and many other viruses) can't avoid. You can go on and off treatment as needed, like during the flu season every year (HINT HINT).
