Why Betting Odds Matter with U.S. Elections

 

If United States voters learned one thing following the 2016 election, it’s that presidential polling should be taken with a boulder-sized grain of salt.

 

The voluminous amount of polling data shared by the media all but guaranteed Hillary Clinton would win the presidency and she didn’t. Donald Trump flipped the script with the biggest political upset in history and if you were one of the select few who saw value on oddsboards in the days leading up to the November 2016 election, a significant profit could be made.

Federal Budget shows that the pandemic will make Australia’s population go backwards

 

The Federal Budget revealed for the first time in more than a century, Australia’s population is set to decline.

 

It sounds like a Pauline Hanson fantasy brought to life: borders closed, migration going backwards and more white people.

 

But without winning an election, many of those outcomes are now part of Australia’s future as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

And it’s set to unleash one of the biggest changes to Australian life in decades that will change the face of the nation for years to come.

 

In crude terms, prepare yourself for a new Australia that is whiter, older and less culturally diverse as our borders remain slammed shut.

 

And forget the urban myth of lockdown babies. The COVID-19 recession is also expected to contribute to a baby drought for years to come.

 

As the Federal Budget reveals, net overseas migration is set to fall into negative levels for the first time since World War II.

 

Australia’s population is forecast to grow to 26 million in 2022 but that’s one million fewer people than previously forecast.

 

The country’s population growth will shudder to halt to the lowest rate in more than 100 years.

 

And while shutting borders may have been a necessary decision to stop the spread of COVID-19, it has huge ramifications for the economy, house prices and even GST grants to the states to run schools and hospitals.

Yet, in 2020, there is a notable silence from the political and economic establishment as American multinational businesses undercut President Donald Trump’s attempts to hold the Chinese Communist Party and its corporate proxies accountable, including technology giants WeChat and TikTok.

 

In August, some of America’s largest companies protested the Trump administration’s announcement that it would bar “any transaction that is related to WeChat,” a Chinese technology platform used by over a billion people that the administration rightly views as a national security threat. The corporate giants’ reasoning for pushing back? The ban might be “bad for business,” nevermind the threat to the American people.

 

The People’s Republic of China represents the greatest threat to the hegemonic status of the United States since the Cold War. In some ways, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is more formidable than the Soviets ever could have been, because the CCP believes that the United States’ fealty to profits surpasses any other consideration. Unlike the closed Communist Russian system, China’s participation in global markets with its cheap labor sources and massive demand pool has tantalized American policymakers and executives for the last 20 years.

 

The establishment’s willful blindness and dogmatic adherence to free trade with China has failed the American people. We both believe strongly in capitalism and free trade, but there are limits — trade must be free but fair and capitalism cannot be allowed to turn into mercantilism that in turn endangers our constitutional rights and national security.

 

It is estimated that since China’s entrance into the WTO in 2001, over 10 million US manufacturing jobs have been lost while China has accumulated over $1 trillion of US debt in order to keep the dollar strong so we continue to make purchases from them. Washington (CNN) – President Barack Obama on Tuesday appointed Michael Bromwich, a former Justice Department watchdog in the Clinton administration, as the new head of a reorganized federal effort to regulate offshore oil drilling.

 

A White House statement said Bromwich would "lead the effort to reform the Minerals Management Service," an Interior Department agency accused of corrupt practices and poor oversight of offshore drilling in the run-up to the Gulf oil disaster.

 

"For a decade or more, the cozy relationship between the oil companies and the federal agency was allowed to go unchecked," Obama said in a White House statement. "That allowed drilling permits to be issued in exchange not for safety plans, but assurances of safety from oil companies. That cannot and will not happen anymore."

 

According to the statement, Bromwich will develop plans "for a new oversight structure, replacing long-standing, inadequate practices with a gold-standard approach for environmental and safety regulation."

 

"He has a mandate to implement far-reaching change and will have the resources to accomplish that change," the statement said.

 

Interior Secretary Ken Salazar previously announced plans to split MMS into three new divisions – the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement, and the Office of Natural Resources Revenue.

 

Bromwich, a lawyer who specializes in internal investigations and regulatory matters, was the Justice Department inspector general from 1994-1999 under President Bill Clinton. The job entailed investigating alleged corruption and misconduct in the department.

 

A graduate of Harvard College, Harvard Law School and Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government, Bromwich was a federal prosecutor in New York and served as an associate for the independent counsel office in the Iran-Contra case.

Grand Jury Indicts St. Louis Couple Who Used Guns to Hold Off Protesters

 

A grand jury indicted Mark and Patricia McCloskey Tuesday on charges related to their June 28, 2020, use of guns to keep protesters away from their home.

 

KSDK reports that the grand jury indicted the McCloskeys on “exhibiting a weapon and tampering with evidence.”

 

Breitbart News reported that Mark held an AR-15 and Patricia held a handgun on June 28, in hopes of deterring protesters from damaging their home or property.

Breitbart News reported an investigation was opened against the McCloskeys on June 30, just two days after they stood with guns to protect their property.

 

The New York Post quoted St. Louis Prosecutor Kimberly Gardner saying, “I am alarmed at the events that occurred over the weekend, where peaceful protestors were met by guns.”

 

She added, “We must protect the right to peacefully protest, and any attempt to chill it through intimidation or threat of deadly force will not be tolerated.”

 

But the Hill reported Missouri Gov. Mike Parson (R) believed the McCloskeys did that which was lawful, that they “did what they legally should do.”

 

Parson said, “A mob does not have the right to charge your property. They had every right to protect themselves.”

 

He suggested that he would pardon the McCloskeys if they were charged for their use of firearms.

Democratic presidential nominee and former US Vice President Joe Biden appears to have changed his opinion on the slated October 15 debate against US President Donald Trump, telling reporters that the next debate will be contingent on 45's COVID-19 novel coronavirus test results.

Dr. Sean Conley, Trump's personal physician, detailed on Monday that the US president "may not be entirely out of the woods yet" when it comes to his COVID-19-related illnesses.

Rioter Charged Federally For Setting Fire To Occupied Government Building

 

MADISON, WIS. – United States Attorney Scott C. Blader announced today that a Madison, Wisconsin resident has been charged with attempting to damage and destroy by means of fire the City-County Building on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard during the civil unrest that occurred in Madison on June 24, 2020. Marquon Clark, 26, was charged in a one-count complaint filed in U.S. District Court today.

 

The complaint alleges that Clark threw projectiles through windows of the City-County Building, and then threw a lit roll of paper towels through the broken windows. The complaint alleges that at the time, the building was occupied by over 250 people, including 182 adults and juveniles being held in the jail. Clark’s actions led to a fire in the City-County Building that resulted in approximately $105,000 in damages and clean-up costs.

 

Clark is in custody at the Dane County Jail. His initial appearance in U.S. District Court in Madison has not been scheduled.

 

“Throwing burning objects into an occupied government building is not protest, it is a crime that places lives at risk,” said U.S. Attorney Blader. “Those who engage in such conduct without regard for the potentially deadly consequences will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

 

If convicted, Clark faces a mandatory minimum penalty of five years and a maximum of 20 years in federal prison. The charge against him is the result of an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; Dane County Sheriff’s Office; Madison Police Department; and the Madison Fire Investigation Team.

Attorneys for former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe on Tuesday accused the bureau of improperly withholding documents they say are critical to his Senate testimony next month.

In a letter to Justice Department Inspector General Michael E. Horowitz, attorney Michael Bromwich called for an investigation into why his client was denied the materials.

“The facts and circumstances described in this request for an OIG investigation demonstrate that the FBI has improperly and unjustifiably blocked Mr. McCabe from obtaining access that would refresh and enhance his recollection of matters that occurred several years ago in connection with his upcoming Senate Judiciary Committee testimony,” Mr. Bromwich wrote.

“The FBI’s decisions, likely in consultation with DOJ leadership, violate Mr. McCabe’s rights to be properly prepared to testify under oath, is contrary to fundamental fairness, and as a result works to obstruct and impede the Senate Judiciary Committee’s investigation.”

Mr. McCabe is scheduled to testify before the panel Oct. 6 as part of its investigation into the FBI’s decision-making in the early stages of its investigation into allegations of collusion between President Trump’s 2016 campaign and Russia.

He is seeking access to his personal calendars and personal notes from that period, but Mr. Bromwich says the FBI concluded the request was “unmanageably voluminous” and outside the scope of the Russia probe.

When he pushed back, the FBI said the calendars could not be released because they might contain classified material, according to Mr. Bromwich’s letter. Mr. Bromwich disputes that claim.

“Even a cursory check would have demonstrated to the FBI lawyers that the calendars were kept on an unclassified FBI system,” he wrote.

Mr. Bromwich says the FBI has denied the request because Mr. McCabe has a lawsuit pending against the bureau and Justice Department. The lawsuit, filed last year, argues that he was fired in 2018 as an act of political retribution at the behest of Mr. Trump.

In early 2018, former Attorney General Jeff Sessions fired Mr. McCabe, citing an inspector general report that concluded he misled investigators about the leaks he had made to the press.

The FBI has made a discretionary decision, very likely in consultation with DOJ leadership that has borne animus towards Mr. McCabe for the last three years, and at least in part because of his pending civil litigation against the DOJ and FBI,” Mr. Bromwich wrote.

“An FBI spokeswoman said in a statement that that the bureau “has been, and will continue to be, fully cooperative with the Senate Judiciary Committee.”

“The FBI considers a number of factors when evaluating requests for former employees seeking access to bureau records, including the scope of the request and whether the former employee maintains an active security clearance,” the statement said.

THERE IS ZERO EVIDENCE OF A CONNECTION between bomb threat post in /qr/ and convo among bakers in /comms/

 

Background:

  • OSS threatened 3 bakers - DSB, GB and GYB/FRB - in QR #13992 (https://archive.vn/wip/QMmdr)

  • Created a confusing cap consisting of a a mish-mosh of timestamps and comments between DSB and GB to try to "prove" that the two were plotting to post a bomb threat on /qr/. >>>/qresearch/10937202.

  • Does not say why the bakers were doing this, but the implication is that they are and have always been shills masquerading as bakers, so they could sabotage qresearch. [- How amazing that they should post this bomb threat at precisely the time that OSS is watching their actions - what are the chances of that??]

  • OSS and shills started spamming the idea all over /qr/ that /comms/ bakers are making bomb threats.

  • Also posted it on /comms/, see: >>>/comms/31036

  • Nobody has refuted this destructive claim, so it continues to circulate. Shills and OSS taking full advantage.

 

Findings:

  • Upon investigation, it is clear that there is ZERO evidence to support the idea that there's any connection between the bomb threat post and bakers' conversation on /comms/.

  • Timestamps don't match up - see below

  • Convo is not about mail bombs but about why OSS crew is attacking the kitch when it did (on a weekend)- see below

 

Conclusion:

OSS just juxtaposed a bunch of unrelated stuff OUT OF CONTEXT and then made the outrageous claim it showed bakers planning a mail bomb post

this is a totally SPECIOUS claim based on ZERO evidence

Done SOLELY to discredit traditional baking crew in order to institute a COUP by "No Name" bakers

0:56 - guy posts on qr with an article on mandatory masks followed by a post with somewhat dank jokey-sounding bomb threat because he's upset about the possibility of mandated masks with very harsh penalties for non-compliance.

1:42 - anon in /qr/ notices a bomb threat in notables and comments in red text (which baker notices and so deletes the notable)

at some point, the bomb threat post is submitted as Global Report and removed from the bread.

OSS says this shows that DSB and GB were planning a mail bomb threat post based on two things:

1 - two statements in their convo (the bolded ones)

2 - very loose but out-of-order links to timestamps

But the statements in context don't show any such intent. And the timestamps on the threat post in /qr/ don't match up to the convo.

 

CAP 1 shows OSS's confusing post that tries to use a few random statements by bakers combined with time stamps that don't match up w/convo to "prove" that the two are related. Time stamps here can be confusing because they seem to come from different time zones. But sticking to "minutes past the hour, we can follow the action.

What we see is this: when looked at in context, the convo is about why OSS crew is trying to take over the bake on the weekend and bakers' efforts to stop them. GB's comment is about it "being set up for weekend" is about OSS effort to take over the dough, not planning a bomb threat. The bakers are just tracking the dup breads to see which is ahead.

 

CAP 2 shows QR #13992 bread posts where OSS tries to frame and intimidate bakers, implying he can prove they have been making bomb threats.

Taiwan Presents Weapons Shopping List To US At Key Defense Industry Conference

 

Taiwan is set to present a veritable weapons shopping list to American officials during the annual US-Taiwan Defense Industry Conference, which began Monday and is continuing Tuesday.

 

The conference is yet another event attracting the ire and watchful scrutiny of China, given it is representative of the growing military cooperation between Taipei and Washington, and goes back to 2002.

 

However, weapons sales will be a closed-door discussion issue. Among closed-door topics include “US defense cooperation with Taiwan, the defense procurement process and Taiwan’s defence and national security needs,” the council said according to South China Morning Post. It will also “provide opportunities to connect with others working on Taiwan defense and national security issues.”

 

Also sure to catch Beijing's notice following last month's ratcheting PLA aerial and sea drills around the island is the following statement on the conference agenda: “Taiwan’s deputy defense minister Chang Guan-chung is expected to brief the US side on the weaponry most needed and urgently sought by the island after seeing growing military intimidation from Beijing.”

 

Ahead of the conference Reuters pointed out last month the US is content to further build up 'Fortress Taiwan' while "needling China" - as it "plans to sell as many as seven major weapons systems, including mines, cruise missiles and drones to Taiwan, four people familiar with the discussions said, as the Trump administration ramps up pressure on China."

 

That prior extensive report previewed Taiwan's 'defense needs' - some of which are in various phases of passing US legal hurdles and discussions, according to Reuters :

If anyone has a loved one in a assisted living or nursing home facility, or even hospital, start demanding visits for welfare checks. I visited a parent this week in a nursing for the first time since the beginning of March. It is reputable and a fairly high level of care. But there is almost zero patient advocacy going on if a patient can’t adequately convey their own condition. I understand they are the most vulnerable, but they are vulnerable in other ways as well. Demand a welfare check or something. Have them set up a FaceTime chat, something. My .02¢

The 86-year-old Hungarian financier's Open Society Foundation is listed among organizations which are backing The International Fact Checking Network, the body tasked with flagging bogus news stories to social media users, on its website.

 

Soros, a staunch Democrat who tried to block George W. Bush's campaign in 2004, has given $25million to Clinton and causes dear to her.

 

Other donors involved in the new fact checking feature include eBay founder Pierre Omidyar who has committed more than $30million to the Clintons and their charities.

 

Google, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the National Endowment for Democracy are also funding the pilot. The feature was announced by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Thursday night.

 

It will flag any stories which have been 'disputed by a 3rd party' before users attempt to share them and prohibit the promotion of any fake stories.

 

The third parties include but are not limited to ABC News, Politico, Snopes and The Washington Post. 'One of Facebook's 'fact checkers' is the Washington Post, who had to admit to putting out an inaccurate 'fake news' list just a week ago,'

 

Even the liberal Weekly Standard singled out Politifact, recalling several occasions in which the outlet admitted it had peddled falsities. Fake news peddlers themselves….
