Cape Verde Court Approves Extradition of Maduro’s Ally to the US

 

A court in Cape Verde ruled on Monday that Colombian businessman and Venezuela’s special envoy Alex Saab can be extradited to the United States where is facing money laundering charges in connection with a bribery scheme allegedly related to President Nicolas Maduro’s government.

According to prosecutors, Saab and his associate Alvaro Pulido Vargas obtained a government contract to build low-income housing units which. This allowed them to take advantage of Venezuela’s government-controlled exchange rate under which they could obtain U.S. dollars at a favorable rate by submitting false import documents for goods they never imported.

 

They bribed Venezuelan government officials to approve those documents and transferred approximately US$350 million out of Venezuela, through the United States, to their overseas accounts, according to the indictment.

 

At the same time, the US Department of Treasury put Saab and a number of his associates under sanctions for their alleged involvement in a food-aid distribution corruption scheme. Saab allegedly ran a complicated network of shell companies that laundered money earned from overvalued government contracts meant for food subsidies.

 

The 48-year-old Colombian, often described as President Maduro’s front man, was detained last June on an Interpol “red notice” when his plane stopped on the African archipelago to refuel. He was heading to Iran as Maduro’s special envoy to negotiate food, medical supplies, and other goods.

 

Jose Pinto Monteiro, Saab’s lead attorney, whose office confirmed the court ruling in a press release, compared the case to Julian Assange’s.

 

A U.K. judge blocked the extradition of the WikiLeaks founder on the same day Cape Verde approved Saab’s, although the Madrid-based law firm that represents both of them used the same arguments.

 

“A significant number of the arguments we raised in our defense have been accepted today by a U.K. court in its ruling refusing to extradite Julian Assange to the United States,” Pinto Monteiro said Monday. “However, those same arguments have fallen on deaf ears in Barlavento (Cape Verde),” he added.

 

Venezuela's Foreign Affairs Office had asked Cape Verde in December to allow Saab to celebrate Christmas with his family and respect the decision of the Court of Justice of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and put him under house arrest.

 

“There is no doubt that the detention of Special Envoy Alex Saab is part of the obsessive siege campaign, orchestrated by the agonizing outgoing government of the United States against Venezuela, with the aim to inflict more suffering to the Venezuelan people and to destabilize its institutions and internal order,” the statement of the Office said.

 

Saab’s lawyers will appeal the extradition ruling before the West African country’s Supreme Court of Justice and said they will take any necessary action, both nationally and internationally, to set him free.

Iran Begins Large-Scale Drone Drill, As USS Nimitz Remains In Persian Gulf

 

On January 5th, the Iranian army is set to begin a “joint and large-scale” drone drill with its different divisions.

 

It is expected to take place in central Iran.

 

The two-day drill will involve “hundreds of operational drones of the army’s ground, air and navy forces in the general area of Semnan (province) and different parts” of the country, state news agency IRNA reported.

 

Deputy Commander of the Army Brigadier-General Mohammad-Hossein Dadras on January 4th said that Iran today has become a regional and transregional superpower in producing drones.

Despite imposed sanctions, Iran has made significant progress in designing, manufacturing, and producing various defense equipment, particularly in the field of drones, Dadras underlined.

 

The Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran always, in accordance with the threats of transregional countries and enemies, takes initiatives to update equipment and hold military exercises, he underscored.

 

The Iran-manufactured drones will undertake “combat, surveillance, reconnaissance, and electronic warfare” in short- and long-distance flights, the agency added.

 

IRNA said the army will also showcase its “achievements” regarding drone manufacture in an exhibition with the presence of high-ranking military commanders.

 

The announcement comes at a time of heightened tensions with the United States, and a day after Iran marked the first anniversary of the assassination of revered Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani.

 

On January 3rd, the United States decided to reverse its decision and actually keep the USS Nimitz in the Persian Gulf. It earlier reported that it was withdrawing it back.

 

According to the United States there were “threats” originating from Iran, and in response the USS Nimitz will remain in the region.

 

Acting US Defense Secretary Christopher Miller said on January 3rd that he changed his mind about sending the aircraft carrier home from the Middle East and instead will keep the vessel on duty.

 

He cited Iranian threats against President Donald Trump and other US government officials as the reason for the redeployment, without elaborating.

 

An unnamed Defense Department official told Al-Awsat that the Nimitz will lead military drills with its regional partners in the coming days.

 

The exercise will take place in the operating zone of the US Fifth Fleet that is based in Bahrain.

 

He explained that the drill is aimed at ensuring the participants’ ability to respond together to any crisis or emergency.

 

Earlier in 2020, back in July, and in September, Iran also held large-scale drills in the region.

President-elect Joe Biden will nominate a chief architect of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, Wendy Sherman, to serve as deputy secretary of state, Politico exclusively reported Tuesday.

Soldier from NC reported sexual assault before she was found dead in Texas, officials say

 

A 19-year-old soldier from North Carolina had reported being sexually assaulted before she was found dead in her barracks on New Year’s Eve, family members and Army officials said.

Kyle Rittenhouse pleaded not guilty to all charges related to the Aug. 25 shootings in Kenosha.

 

Rittenhouse, 18, is charged with five felonies, including first-degree homicide and attempted homicide.

 

His lawyer, Mark Richards, appeared alongside the accusee in a videoconference court trial.

 

Rittenhouse claims that his acts were done in self-defense.

At the time of the alleged crime, Rittenhouse was 17. He has also been charged with possessing a “dangerous weapon” while being underage.

 

The virtual court arrangement lasted about four minutes. He had previously been released from custody after posting $2 million in bail.

 

His attorney said that he only fired his rifle after being attacked by protestors following the police shooting of Jacob Blake, who resisted arrest.

 

Rittenhouse’s defense attorney initially asked for the bail to be set at $750,000, noting that he has no criminal record, quickly turned himself in voluntarily after the incident, and has an “overwhelming” claim of self-defense.

 

“Who attacked my client first?” Richards asked. “Rosenbaum, then the mob, not demonstrators, but rioters with ill intent in their heart.”

 

Assistant District Attorney Thomas Binger asked for the $2 million bond, noting that Rittenhouse faces life in prison if convicted of the homicide charges, which makes him a flight risk.

“The defendant doesn’t want to be here and if released won’t come back,” Binger said.

 

During a previously held hearing, Richards put on view various screenshots from video footage that were recorded during the incident.

 

Photos showed Rittenhouse running away from a protester who had a firearm and Rittenhouse on the floor after being struck with a skateboard.

 

“The state is trying to put forth a one-sided, stilted view of what happened,” Richards asserted.

Apparently, Switzerland is not the only country that played a major role in the international hacking operation against the US election.

 

In the latest article published on this blog, the Swiss-American author and researcher Neal Sutz has explained how Switzerland has had a fundamental part in the international coup against Trump

 

Switzerland has recently bought the sole rights of Scytl, the company tied to Dominion Voting System which, according to several statistical analyses, had switched hundreds of thousands of votes from Trump to Biden.

 

Switzerland perfectly knew about the structural flaws of Scytl but it failed to warn the Trump administration about the technical malfunctioning of this software.

 

However, there is another country that could have had an even more crucial role in this story and that country is Italy.

 

In this regard, there is an interesting and sensational version of the fraud’s plot provided by Bradley Johnson, a former CIA agent and chief of one of the agency stations.

According to Johnson, basically Italy was directly involved in the manipulation of votes in the US elections.

 

The intelligence analyst partially confirms the story regarding the US special forces raid to recover Dominion’s servers hosted in the CIA Frankfurt station.

 

Other sources confirmed the authenticity of the story and apparently the raid was successful in retrieving the servers, which constitute an irrefutable evidence of the fraud.

 

General Thomas McInerney claimed that after the raid a violent fight had ensued between the CIA paramilitary called in from Afghanistan to defend the station and the US special forces group.

 

Five military members would lose their lives in the harsh battle.

 

Johnson offers another version, even more shocking if possible. The former CIA agent doesn’t deny this operation but he claims that the hacked data had been moved from Frankfurt to Rome, in the US embassy located in the central street of via Veneto.

 

According to Johnson, Frankfurt servers only hosted partial tracks of the hacking, but the real main protagonist of the attack would have been Rome.

 

During the election day, something unprecedented in the history of US election occurred.

 

Suddenly, the vote counting in the key states was simultaneously halted in the middle of the night, when in Italy was already morning.

 

The hacking operation was in course, but the perpetrators realized that there was something wrong.

 

“Trump was taking a record number of votes” says Johnson, and the switching of votes from Trump to Biden was not enough to definitely deliver the “victory” to the democratic candidate.

At that point, Rome went on stage by receiving the data from Frankfurt, but a new elaboration of algorithms was necessary to finally change the outcome in favor of Biden.

 

Therefore, the operation to recalibrate the hacking attack would have taken place in via Veneto, and if this fact were to be confirmed the American embassy in Rome would be directly involved in an attempt to overthrow its President.

 

In this scenario, the subversive powers infiltrated in the US government, the deep state, had planned a coup d’état against their commander in chief.

 

At this moment, the US ambassador in Italy is Lewis Eisenberg, former member of Goldman Sachs and contributor to the first Trump campaign but at the same time close to the neocon Zionist lobbies which are bitter enemies of the President for his ongoing plan to withdraw the US military in the Middle East.

Report: Vice President Mike Pence Does ‘Not Believe’ He Has ‘Power to Block Congressional Certification’

 

Vice President Mike Pence reportedly told President Trump Tuesday that he does not possess the power to block the certification of the election — a remark that followed Trump asserting the vice president, who is presiding over Wednesday’s joint session of Congress, has the “power to reject fraudulently chosen electors.”

That Italian defense company is rumored to be Leonardo, a billion-dollar aero-space and cybersecurity giant akin to the U.S.’ Lockheed-Martin.

US Treasury now has an Anti-Money-Laundering Whistleblower program….

 

On January 1, Congress passed the whistleblower provision of the Anti-Money Laundering Act. The Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Act is a section of the yearly National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which distributes funds to the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) and became law when Congress overrode President Trump’s veto of the bill.

 

The purported goal of the AML Whistleblower Act is to incentivize individuals to blow the whistle on money laundering to the Department of Treasury. The Act is largely modeled off previous legislation which established successful whistleblower rewards programs, such as the Dodd- Frank Act (DFA) and the False Claims Act (FCA). The AML Whistleblower Act rules that whistleblowers who provide “original information to the employer of the individual, the Secretary, or the Attorney General, as applicable” that leads to a “successful enforcement of the covered judicial or administrative action” can receive a whistleblower award of up to 30% of the money recovered.

Bill Turner knew he had a tough job. He took over as acting director of voter services in Chester County, Pa., in September, just two months before a divisive presidential election amid a pandemic. Huge voter turnout was expected, and COVID-19 required election managers like Turner to handle mail-in ballots on a scale they'd never seen and confront the threat of their staffers becoming sick.

 

These challenges had forced many election offices to burn through their budgets months earlier. Turner had previously served as the county's emergency manager, experience that seemed apt for overseeing an election that many observers feared would become a catastrophe.

 

Mark Zuckerberg, the founder and CEO of Facebook, and Priscilla Chan, his wife, donated $350 million to a nonprofit that gave grants to election officials around the United States.

With a tight budget and little help from the federal government, Chester County applied for an election grant from the Center for Tech and Civic Life, a previously small Chicago-based nonprofit that quickly amassed hundreds of millions of dollars in donations to help local election offices — most notably, $350 million from Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan.

 

"Honestly, I don't know what we would have done without it," Turner said.

 

The coronavirus pandemic — and Congress' neglect — necessitated an unprecedented bailout of election offices with private money funneled through the little-known nonprofit. And the money proved indispensable.

 

Turner is one of 25 election directors from swing states interviewed by APM Reports who said the grant money was essential to preventing an election meltdown amid worries over a pandemic and a president who continues to openly question — without evidence — the legitimacy of the process.

 

The Center for Tech and Civic Life gave grants to more than 2,500 jurisdictions this year to help departments pay for election administration. The money arrived as historically underfunded election department budgets were sapped from unforeseen purchases during the primaries and were forced to spend money on election workers, postage and printing for the increasing number of voters who wanted to vote by mail.

 

. . .But through a series of interviews, public records requests and a review of public meetings, APM Reports pieced together the details of grant awards in the five swing states that decided the election. APM Reports obtained more than 30 applications and grant agreements between local election offices and the Center for Tech and Civic Life. The documents show requests mainly focused on the logistics of the election: increased pay for poll workers, expanded early voting sites and extra equipment to more quickly process millions of mailed ballots.
