Mass Casualty Incident' Reported At Bio-Detek In Pawtucket, RI

PAWTUCKET, RI — Emergency rescue crews from multiple communities responded to 525 Narragansett Park Drive late Thursday afternoon for reports of up to 30 patients exposed to a chemical release.

A HazMat response was requested and ambulances were instructed to stage at Langdon and Beverage Hill Avenues. The call came in around 5 p.m. A "mass casualty incident" was declared.

At around 5:30 p.m. scanner communication indicated that around 10 people had been transported to Rhode Island Hospital with symptoms stemming from an "unknown chemical irritant" (Updates: 15 rescues reported by 6 p.m. The Department of Environmental Management has been notified. 6:38 p.m.: Information is conveyed to hospitals that a top level of 18 parts per million of an organic compound was detected inside the facility. 6:40 p.m.: Incident command clears most rescues from the scene. An EMS is assigned to a HAZMAT team.)

Islamic State Cites 'Grievances' Against Slaughtered Christians

The Islamic State in Sinai recently executed another Christian on video. In a clip recorded before the execution, the slain Copt, Nabil H. Salama, 62, “confessed” to his crime: building the only church in Bir al-Abd in Sinai—a church that was supposedly “cooperating with the Egyptian army’s and intelligence’s war on the Islamic State.”

Although Salama offered this “confession” only after being tortured—after his front teeth were busted out of his mouth—the charge that Coptic churches are actively and nefariously working to undermine the Islamic order is as widespread among Egypt’s Islamists as it is constantly morphing in absurd directions.

Thus, in an unrestrained tirade back in 2010, Muhammad Salim al-Awwa, former secretary-general of the International Union for Muslim Scholars, appeared on Al-Jazeera and accused the Copts, not of “cooperating” with the Egyptian military, but of “stocking arms and ammunitions in their churches and monasteries”—imported from Israel no less, “the heart of the Coptic Cause”—and “preparing to wage war against Muslims.” He warned that if nothing is done the “country will burn” and incited Muslims to “counteract the strength of the [Coptic] Church.”

In reality, all that ever “burns” are Coptic churches at the hands of Muslims—as when nearly 70 churches were attacked and many destroyed following the ouster of the Muslim Brotherhood’s Muhammad Morsi. This is to say nothing of all the Coptic churches that have been bombed, leaving scores of Christian worshippers dead, by terrorists. To name just some of the more notable incidents: on Palm Sunday, 2017, two Coptic churches were bombed and 50 worshippers killed; on Sunday, December 11, 2016, a Coptic church was bombed and at least 27 worshippers killed; on New Year’s Eve of 2011, another church was bombed and about 23 Christians killed; and on Christmas Eve of 2010, seven Christians were shot dead while leaving their church.

The fact is, Muslim terrorists are notorious for offering any number of pretexts—many of which border on the absurd—to justify their cowardly targeting and murdering of Christians, in and out of Egypt. The Islamic State cited “grievances” to justify its grisly slaughter of 21 Christians—20 Copts and one Ghanaian—on the shores of Libya in 2015. An article in Dabiq, the Islamic State’s online magazine in English, titled “Revenge for the Muslimat [Muslim women] Persecuted by the Coptic Crusaders of Egypt,” claimed that the 21 Christians were slaughtered in “revenge” for two Coptic women who, back in 2010 and according to Islamic propaganda, were compelled by Egypt’s Coptic Orthodox Church to recant their conversion to Islam and return to Christianity.

Indeed, the late Coptic Pope Shenouda III, who was then nearly 90 years old and immobile, was portrayed as “a U.S. agent, an abductor and torturer of female Muslim converts from Christianity, who was stockpiling weapons in monasteries and churches with a view to waging war against the Muslims and dividing Egypt to create a Coptic State.”

The Islamic State also cited the 2010 bombing of Our Lady of Salvation Church in Baghdad as a product of “revenge” for those same supposedly forced-to-reconvert-back-to-Christianity women in Egypt. Then, armed jihadis had stormed the Iraqi church during worship service, opened fire indiscriminately, before detonating their suicide vests, which were “filled with ball bearings to kill as many people as possible.” Nearly 60 Christians—including women, children, and even babies (pictures of aftermath here)—were slaughtered.

Nor is this blame-the-victim strategy limited to Egypt. Speaking two days after a series of bombings rocked Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday, 2017, killing 359 people, a junior defense minister said that the attack “was in retaliation for the attack against Muslims in Christchurch,” where a New Zealand man killed around 50 Muslims in two mosques.

Two points give the lie to all such claims of Islamic “retaliation” due to “grievances.”

First, what did the Iraqi Christians of Our Lady Church, or the one decapitated Ghanaian, have to do with the imagined crimes of the Coptic Church? For that matter, what do Christians in the Middle East, Africa and Asia have to do with the secular West? Whenever the latter somehow offends Muslims—whether by publishing cartoons or launching military operations in Afghanistan—Muslims “respond” by terrorizing the Christian minorities in their midst. What exactly do brown Sri Lankan Christians celebrating Easter have to do with a white terrorist in New Zealand? Moreover, if the Easter day attack was a form of retaliation, what explains the fact that Muslims bomb churches on virtually every Easter (most recently in Indonesia).

Which leads to the second point: since when did Islamic terrorists that regularly preach hate for the other ever need a reason or excuse to make the lives of non-Muslims, chief among them Christians, miserable? For instance, since July 2011, I have been compiling monthly “Muslim Persecution of Christians” reports (published by Gatestone Institute). In virtually every one of these monthly reports, Muslims bomb, burn, or ban churches and generally terrorize Christians. Are we seriously to believe this is all due to Muslim “grievances” against the disempowered Christian minorities in their midst?

Indeed, even in the most recent murder, that of Nabil Salama, the Copt in Sinai, his murderers, perhaps inadvertently, let escape the truth behind their animus. In his execution video, Salama appears on his knees, with three men holding rifles standing behind him. The one in the middle launches into a typical jihadi diatribe: “All praise to Allah, who ordered his slaves [Muslims] to fight and who assigned humiliation onto the infidels” — this latter part is said while the terrorist contemptuously points at the bound and kneeling man before him — “until they pay the jizya while feeling utterly subdued.”

This, of course, is a paraphrasing of Koran 9:29, which commands Muslims to wage jihad against the “People of the Book—Christians and Jews—until they pay tribute and feel themselves utterly subdued. Note: the Koran does not cite any grievances against Christians and Jews—except, of course, for the fact that they are Christians and Jews, that is, infidels, who reject the authority of Muhammad, and are therefore the enemy.

In short, all “grievances” cited by those Muslims who terrorize already disenfranchised religious minorities in their midst are false and meant to “legitimize” their otherwise cowardly and atrocious deeds.

Former City of Chicago Alderman Charged With Using Money From Political Fund To Pay Personal Expenses

CHICAGO — A federal grand jury today indicted former City of Chicago Alderman RICARDO MUNOZ on fraud charges for allegedly using money from a political fund to pay personal expenses.

A 16-count indictment returned in U.S. District Court in Chicago alleges that while serving as Alderman of the 22nd Ward in Chicago, Munoz used money from a political action committee formed by the Chicago Progressive Reform Caucus (CPRC) to pay a relative’s college tuition and other personal expenses, including jewelry, clothing, cell phones, vacations, sports tickets, and airline tickets. Munoz obtained the money through cash withdrawals and debit card charges from the CPRC’s bank account or by transferring funds from CPRC to another political fund he controlled – Citizens for Munoz (CFM) – and then on to his personal checking account, the indictment states. Munoz attempted to conceal the fraud scheme by making materially false representations to the Illinois State Board of Elections and staff members and contractors of the CPRC, the indictment states.

CPRC was a political organization whose voting membership consisted of certain Aldermen in the Chicago City Council. Munoz, who was a member of the City Council from 1993 to 2019, served as chairman of the CPRC and performed the duties of its treasurer. Public officials were prohibited by law from receiving payments from the CPRC for personal expenditures.

Munoz, 56, of Chicago, is charged with 15 counts of wire fraud and one count of money laundering. Arraignment in federal court in Chicago has not yet been scheduled.

The indictment was announced by John R. Lausch, Jr., United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois; and Emmerson Buie, Jr., Special Agent-in-Charge of the Chicago Field Office of the FBI. The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Morris Pasqual and Jared Hasten.

The public is reminded that an indictment is not evidence of guilt. The defendant is presumed innocent and entitled to a fair trial at which the government has the burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

Each count of wire fraud is punishable by up to 20 years in federal prison, while the money laundering count carries a maximum sentence of ten years. If convicted, the Court must impose a reasonable sentence under federal statutes and the advisory U.S. Sentencing Guidelines.

Chicago Attorney Charged With False Statement and Tax Offenses in Connection With Funds Received From Failed Chicago Bank

CHICAGO — A Chicago attorney was indicted today on false statement and tax charges in connection with funds he received from Washington Federal Bank for Savings.

PATRICK D. THOMPSON, 51, is charged with five counts of willfully filing a false income tax return and two counts of knowingly making a false statement to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., according to an indictment returned in U.S. District in Chicago. Arraignment has not yet been scheduled.

The indictment was announced by John R. Lausch, Jr., United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois; Jay N. Lerner, Inspector General of the FDIC’s Office of Inspector General; Tamera Cantu, Acting Special Agent-in-Charge of IRS Criminal Investigation in Chicago; Emmerson Buie, Jr., Special Agent-in-Charge of the Chicago Field Office of the FBI; Catherine Huber, Special Agent-in-Charge of the Central Region of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, Office of Inspector General; Sally Luttrell, Assistant Inspector for Investigations of the Department of the Treasury, Office of Inspector General; Joseph M. Ferguson, City of Chicago Inspector General; and Kathryn B. Richards, Chicago Housing Authority Inspector General. The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Brian Netols, Michelle Petersen, Jeremy Daniel, and Nicholas Eichenseer.

According to the charges, Thompson from 2011 to 2014 received $219,000 from Chicago-based Washington Federal via a purported loan and other unsecured payments. He made one re-payment on the loan but then stopped making payments, and he failed to pay interest on the funds he received, the indictment states. Washington Federal was shut down in 2017 after the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency determined it was insolvent and had at least $66 million in nonperforming loans. When the FDIC, as successor in interest to Washington Federal, attempted to obtain repayment from Thompson in 2018, he falsely stated that he owed only $110,000 and that those funds were for home improvement, when Thompson knew he had actually received $219,000 and that $110,000 of it was paid by the bank to a law firm as Thompson’s capital contribution, the indictment states.

The tax charges accuse Thompson of falsely representing on five years of income taxes that he paid interest on money he received from Washington Federal, even though he knew he did not pay interest in the amounts reported on the returns.

Ten other defendants, including several high-ranking former bank employees, were previously charged as part of the ongoing federal criminal investigation into the failure of Washington Federal.

The public is reminded that an indictment is not evidence of guilt. The defendant is presumed innocent and entitled to a fair trial at which the government has the burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Each false statement count is punishable by a maximum sentence of 30 years in federal prison, while each tax count is punishable by up to three years. If convicted, the Court must impose a reasonable sentence under federal statutes and the advisory U.S. Sentencing Guidelines.

Federal Judge Sentences Suburban Chicago Man to Nine Years in Prison for Illegally Possessing Numerous Firearms

CHICAGO — A suburban Chicago man has been sentenced to nine years in federal prison for illegally possessing a semi-automatic rifle and numerous semi-automatic handguns.

MARIO PRADO, 28, illegally possessed the firearms on Feb. 14, 2019, in his residence in South Elgin, Ill. Law enforcement on that date conducted a court-authorized search of the residence and discovered the rifle and eight handguns. Prado had previously been convicted of a felony firearm offense in the Circuit Court of Kane County and was not legally allowed to possess a firearm.

Prado pleaded guilty on Nov. 20, 2020, to a federal charge of illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. U.S. District Judge Sharon Johnson Coleman imposed the nine-year sentence Monday after a hearing in federal court in Chicago.

The sentence was announced by John R. Lausch, Jr., United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois; Kristen deTineo, Special Agent-in-Charge of the Chicago Field Division of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives; and Brendan F. Kelly, Director of the Illinois State Police. The government was represented by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Niranjan Emani.

Holding illegal firearm possessors accountable through federal prosecution is a centerpiece of Project Guardian and Project Safe Neighborhoods. In the Northern District of Illinois, U.S. Attorney Lausch and law enforcement partners have deployed the Guardian and PSN programs to attack a broad range of violent crime issues facing the district, particularly firearm offenses.

Wilmington Man Sentenced To 10 Years In Federal Prison For Receipt Of A Gun and Ammunition

WILMINGTON, Del. – A Wilmington man was sentenced on April 27 to 10 years in federal prison by the Honorable Colm F. Connolly, U.S. District Judge for the District of Delaware, for receipt of a firearm and ammunition with the intent that a felony would be committed with that firearm and ammunition. David C. Weiss, U.S. Attorney for the District of Delaware, made the announcement.

According to court documents, Angel Ortiz, 36, was arrested by the New Castle County Police Department on November 29, 2018, after he got out of a car during a traffic stop, ran away, and threw a loaded firearm. The firearm was recovered and found to be a Remington 1911 .45 caliber handgun with an extended magazine. Mr. Ortiz had previously been convicted of a felony offense and was not legally permitted to possess the Remington handgun.

U.S. Attorney Weiss stated, “Violent crime destroys neighborhoods. Together with our law enforcement partners, my Office is committed to doing all we can to get guns off our community’s streets and out of the hands of individuals who illegally possess them.”

“In our fight against violent crime, every gun taken off the street is a small victory, and every gun trafficker locked up is a big one," said Rachel Byrd, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Baltimore Field Office. "The FBI and our partners are committed to working together across jurisdictions to take down the criminals wreaking such havoc in our communities.”

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a federal program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and make our neighborhoods safer for everyone. The U.S. Department of Justice reinvigorated PSN in 2017 as part of the Department’s renewed focus on targeting violent criminals, directing all U.S. Attorney’s Offices to work in partnership with federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement and the local community to develop effective, locally-based strategies to reduce violent crime.

The case was investigated by the FBI-Baltimore Division’s Wilmington Resident Agency and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Maureen McCartney and Laura Hatcher.

The White House has not reached out to Republicans for “meaningful input on major legislation” despite President Joe Biden’s calls for bipartisan unity, Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS) said on SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Daily with host Alex Marlow, author of Breaking the News: Exposing the Establishment Media’s Hidden Deals and Secret Corruption.

Marlow reflected on Biden’s Wednesday remarks before a mostly empty joint session of Congress.

“The unity Biden preaches is nowhere to be found,” he stated. “[Biden] is doing this thing where he calls for unity and then he announces a slate of partisan Democrat issues with no indication he’s reaching across the aisle, at all. I want to get your thoughts as someone who has to work with him in the Senate.”

Marshall replied, “I can assure you the White House has not reached out to any Republican for meaningful input on major legislation — zero, none — it’s not happening. It’s all lip service, and that’s just where we are right now. It is just that simple.

“We would love the opportunity to engage, but just think about his radical agenda, right now. Your listeners need to think of the totality of their agenda. They want to take away our freedom of speech, our freedom of religion. They want to pack the Supreme Court. They want to give D.C. statehood [and] rig the election. They want to open borders [and to] defund the police. They want to take your land from you now, as well … and that’s got people in Kansas fired up like you wouldn’t believe,” the Kansas Republican continued.

“It is a radical agenda,” Marshall concluded. “There is no unity. There is no reaching across the aisle by this White House.”

Marshall described the Biden administration’s proposals for increased centralization of economic control and planning as a governmental push for more control over Americans’ lives.

“The President is trying to tell you why he needs to take over your life from birth to the grave, and the federal government is now in charge of your entire life,” he remarked. “[Biden] wants $6 trillion. He’s already borrowed and spent $2 trillion on his first so-called COVID relief bill, and then he announced a couple of weeks ago another $2 trillion for what he called an infrastructure bill, but which is really a Green New Deal bill, right?”

Marshall highlighted inaccurate Democrat use of the term “free” to describe taxpayer-funded initiatives.

“Finally, last night, [Biden] said [his administration wants] another $2 trillion for your kids’ preschool as well as for free college,” he stated. “Everything’s free, right? Everything is free — $6 trillion dollars — and he’s going to come after you with taxes. He wants to raise your capital gains and dividend distribution. He wants to get rid of stepped-up basis. This will kill family businesses, the family farm, the ability to pass on that land. Or if you have a family business, maybe a third-generation [business] you want to pass on, and all the sudden you’re going to have to bring in a partner or sell a third of your business just to pay for your children to be able to continue to do business.”

He added, “[Biden] wants you to be a servant to the to the federal government.”

Former DHS Officials Slam Biden for Pushing Amnesty Amid Border Crisis

Former Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials are slamming President Joe Biden’s touting of massive amnesty for illegal aliens in his address to a joint session of Congress while illegal aliens pour across the United States-Mexico border.

As Breitbart News reported, Biden asked Congress to pass his plan giving amnesty to roughly 11 to 22 million illegal aliens living in the U.S.

“I kept my commitment and I sent a comprehensive immigration bill to Congress. If you believe we need a secure border — pass it. If you believe in a pathway to citizenship — pass it,” Biden told Congress.

Former Acting DHS Deputy Secretary Ken Cuccinelli, now with the Heritage Foundation, slammed Biden’s amnesty push as merely an effort to “create new voters” to “benefit [Democrats] politically.”

“He has undermined those very laws with his radical open-borders policies, and granting amnesty to millions of illegal aliens who broke our laws by coming and remaining here illegally will only make a further mockery of that oath,” Cuccinelli said:

Let’s not forget how bad this crisis is, and the scope of what the president wants to do. In January, 78,000 illegal aliens were apprehended trying to cross the border, a number that increased to 100,000 in February, and more than 172,000 in March. Apprehensions in March 2021 increased by more than 420% compared to March 2020. If this month’s numbers are even close to last month’s shocking 172,000 apprehensions, we are talking about a 900% increase from April 2020 to April 2021. [Emphasis added]

Former Acting Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Commissioner Mark Morgan, also with the Heritage Foundation, urged Congress to reject the effort and said Biden’s amnesty plan would “reward widespread, systemic lawbreaking.”

“… by advancing what would be the largest amnesty proposal in U.S. history, the Biden administration is making it one by insisting on rewarding up to 30 million illegal aliens with the greatest prize in the world — American citizenship,” Morgan said. “Doing so will only make this historic border crisis worse.”

Pro-American worker groups, which advocate for less overall immigration to the U.S., also hit Biden for attempting to add tens of millions of foreign workers to the legal workforce even as 22.4 million Americans remain jobless or underemployed.

Executives from “the nation’s largest grassroots immigration-reduction organization,” NumbersUSA, said Biden ought to pass mandatory E-Verify, to eliminate employers from being allowed to hire illegal aliens over Americans, if he wants to secure the southern border.

During Wednesday night’s national address, President Joe Biden repeated his oft-debunked claim that that “no amendment to the Constitution is absolute” while making an argument against gun rights, and went to lie about the Supreme Court’s stance on free speech, claiming “you can’t yell fire in a crowded theater.”

“No amendment to the constitution is absolute,” Biden said after making an appeal to restrict gun rights. “You can’t yell ‘fire’ in a crowded theater. From the very beginning, there were certain guns, weapons, that could not be owned by Americans.“

Biden is not only incorrect about firearms restrictions, which did not exist even for military cannon and warships at the country’s founding, but the “fire in a crowded theater” metaphor he invokes so often is also completely false.

The saying comes from remarks made over a hundred years ago in 1919 by Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes in the case Schenk v. United States, during which the court incorrectly ruled that advocating against the draft was not free speech.

The Court’s ruling is widely interpreted as one of the worst ever in U.S. history, and was effectively overturned in the landmark 1969 case Brandenburg v. Ohio.

Yelling “Fire!” in a crowded theater has been ruled protected speech for over half a century, but that has not prevented Biden from repeating the false claim on many occasions.

Biden also has a history of making up outright lies about background checks at gun shows:

The CEO of a New York fashion company says the Cuomo administration fleeced her out of $10.4 million — refusing to pay for an order of PPE she delivered during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a lawsuit filed Thursday.

State representatives allegedly used “bullying” and misogynistic tactics to rip off Laws of Motion, a woman-run, NY-based label — leaving it on the brink of collapse, the filing states.

“The Cuomo administration had been deliberately obstructionist — all in a very clear attempt to avoid payment and systemically work to silence and destroy anyone they felt superior to,” CEO Carly Bigi told The Post.

Her company struck a $26.4 million deal with the administration in early April 2020 for an expedited order of 2.4 million surgical gowns, according to the suit, filed in the New York State Court of Claims.

At the time, the Empire State was facing a critical shortage of PPE and some health care workers were even forced to wear trash bags as gowns, The Post reported then.

“We were going to do everything we could to help,” Bigi said.

Her staff worked at “rocket speed” to prepare a proposal and samples to send to the state, she said. Payment terms required the state to pay 75 percent up front and 25 percent upon delivery of the gowns.
