Disney debuts first-ever LGBTQ love song on 'High School Musical' TV show

Disney is featuring its first-ever LGBTQ love song on Friday's episode of "High School Musical: The Musical: The Series," EW reported.

The episode, which streams on Disney+, depicts Carlos (Frankie Rodriguez) singing a love song titled, "In a Heartbeat," to his boyfriend Seb (Joe Serafini), the outlet said.

EW said the "sweet ballad" is performed "when Carlos learns Seb feels insecure in their relationship."

What's more, the actors are a real-life couple, the outlet noted — and Rodriguez said he was excited to be part of Disney history.

"To be the first, it's kind of crazy!" Rodriguez told EW in a joint interview with Serafini. "I just love that we actually got to see them as a couple this year."

Rodriguez added to the outlet that their "onscreen kiss" was "so sweet."

Serafini noted to EW that he and Rodriguez "got to dance together, and I think the way that they designed it visually is just so gorgeous. And fun fact, the director of that episode, Joanna Kerns, is actually the person who directed our 'Homecoming' episode back in season 1 when Carlos and Seb first interacted with each other in a romantic setting. So it was really special to share that with her and go back to those Homecoming suits and that moment when they first set eyes on each other."

The outlet asked the pair how it feels "knowing that you are presenting this more inclusive picture of what a love story can look like more clearly for young audiences" — and Rodriquez was effusive.

"Oh my gosh, it feels amazing and obviously it's so needed," he told EW. "The fact that we get to be that representation that we definitely did not get to see growing up on a platform like Disney with a popular franchise, it means a lot. We definitely see the response, especially on social media of kids who have reached out and said, 'Your characters gave me confidence to be myself,' or 'Your characters gave me the confidence to come out.' Those are big, life-changing decisions, and so it's very special to be a part of someone's journey that way."

Serafini added to the outlet that "it's just so important to have people to look to, especially if you're in a situation or environment that's maybe less accepting, to see that, if I am feeling these feelings, other people are too and there's hope. Joe Biden Says Virus “Misinformation” on Social Media is “Killing People”

Britney Spears joins the anti-vaccine brigade

In the celebrity vaccine wars, as we all know, Jenny McCarthy has become the de facto leader of the "vaccines-cause-autism" lunatic fringe. However, apparently she has managed to recruit another celebrity to help her out. Her choice is amazingly appropriate: Britney Spears, who was seen at a fundraiser for "Jenny McCarthy's autism charity Generation Rescue."

Because no one knows parenting and science like Britney Spears, I guess.

On the other hand, I have to wonder what J. B. Handley, founder of GR, thinks of having the Hollywood press refer to his baby as "Jenny McCarthy's autism charity"? Of course, I wouldn't exactly call GR a "charity." In reality, it's far more of a propaganda machine pushing the discredited idea that mercury in vaccines somehow causes autism, although of late it's moved the goalposts andshall we say?"readjusted" its idea to blame combinations of vaccines and "toxins" in light of the continuing barrage of studies that fail to find a link between mercury-containing vaccines and autism. I also can't help but wonder what the other "charity" supporting the belief that vaccines cause autism, TACA, thinks about GR stealing its celebrity spokesperson. (Remember, Jenny arranged her "Green Our Vaccines" rally primarily under the sponsorship of TACA.)

There were a some other celebrities at this fundraiser that seemed equally appropriate. Yes, Hugh Hefner showed up with his "Girls Next Door," as did Charlie Sheen and his new bride. A perfect confluence of beautiful people demonstrating that special brand of stupid that only celebrities seem able to achieve!

Of course, while Charlie Sheen has already shown that he's drunk the anti-vaccination Kool Aid, I'm sure that neither Britney Spears (who is so utterly clueless about virtually everything other than music, and whether she understands music is pretty darned debatable) nor Hugh Hefner has a clue about the real agenda of Generation Rescue, namely supporting the scientifically extremely dubious belief that some way, somehow, it's just got to be the vaccines that cause autism, no matter how extensive the evidence to the contrary is. I'm sure they have no clue that GR's real agenda is to support all manner of pseudoscientific quackery to "cure" autism, preferably by lending it an undeserved patina of science. All they know, I'm guessing, is that it's an "autism charity" and that Jenny McCarthy supports it. Their "people" probably told them that it would look good for them to show up to "support" autistic children, that it would be a lovely photo op. There's also the element of "you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours," as in "you show up to my charity fundraiser, and I'll show up at yours." Who cares what the actual charity is? It's charity, after all, right?

Perish the thought of all those marchers on Washington Jenny led last month with their signs likening vaccines to toxic waste or weapons of mass destruction.

I wonder what Hugh Hefner, for instance, who happens to have a lot of business savvy and is certainly way more intelligent than the bubble-brained Jen and Brit show, would say if he were ever to learn just how outside the mainstream of autism science and treatment Generation Rescue and its founder are or how GR supports pseudoscience and anti-vaccine fear-mongering. Sadly, probably nothing. It's all about self-promotion and forging alliances, after all, and Hef is good at nothing if not that (well, that and sleeping with women young enough to be his granddaughters–ew!). I highly doubt Hef or Britney care one whit about autism, quack "biomedical treatments," or that science has failed to find any sort of link between autism and vaccines or thimerosal, despite having looked extensively. They and their publicists just like the positive press for supporting what looks like a "worthy" cause on the surface, and they know that the entertainment press is even more scientifically clueless than the regular press, Britney especially, given that she's trying to resurrect her moribund career. All the celebrity press will report is what it's reporting already: How "fabulous" everyone looked.

And in Hollywood that's all that matters. Kiss kiss.

I just talked to my friend from Afganistan whom i've known over 15 years.

He just came back from there after spending time with his family and friend over 5 months and i asked him about the Taleban situation there

Pfizer Agrees to Pay $345 Million to Resolve EpiPen Pricing Lawsuit

Pfizer Inc has agreed to pay $345 million to resolve claims by consumers who claim they overpaid for EpiPens due to anticompetitive and unfair practices by the drugmaker and the company that markets the emergency allergy treatment, Mylan.

The proposed class action settlement was disclosed in a filing in federal court in Kansas City, Kansas. The deal, which requires a judge’s approval, would not resolve claims against Mylan, which is scheduled to face trial in January.

Paul Geller, a lawyer for the plaintiffs, said they were “pleased that Pfizer resolved its part of this class-action lawsuit over the pricing of EpiPens.”

Pfizer, which did not admit wrongdoing, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The EpiPen is a handheld device that treats life-threatening allergic reactions by automatically injecting a dose of epinephrine.

The litigation followed a public outcry in 2016 after Mylan, which owns the rights to market and distribute the devices, raised the price of a pair of EpiPens to $600, from $100 in 2008, putting it in the center of an ongoing U.S. debate over the high cost of medicines.

The lawsuit accused Mylan and Pfizer, which manufactured the EpiPen for Mylan, of engaging in anticompetitive conduct that allowed them to maintain a monopoly over the market for the devices and their profitable revenues.

The settlement came after U.S. District Judge Daniel Crabtree last month dismissed much of but not all of the claims against Mylan.

The remaining antitrust claims concern a patent settlement the plaintiffs say delayed the launch of a generic epinephrine auto-injector. Mylan has said it “firmly believes that Mylan’s conduct was lawful and pro-competitive.”

More than 120 people have been killed and hundreds more are missing after the catastrophic flooding across Germany and Belgium. Several villages are cut off and it's feared a dam could burst.

Some 114,000 Western German Households Without Power After Floods

FRANKFURT—Heavy floods in western Germany had left 114,000 households without power on Friday, said a spokesperson for Westnetz, the country’s biggest power distribution grid company.

The death toll rose to more than 80 on Friday in what is Germany’s worst mass loss of life in years as further flooding was feared in western Germany as a breach at another dam loomed.

“All available employees are on site and are working under high pressure to restore supplies,” the Westnetz spokesperson said in response to an enquiry.

The company, part of the E.ON group, operates a grid that spans large parts of the states of North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate, but not the cities of Cologne, Wuppertal, and Duesseldorf. It supplies around 7.5 million with power, gas, water, and heat.

Days of constant rain in the area have caused river levels to rise sharply and softened the ground, and further flooding is feared.

Entire communities lie in ruins after river water swept through towns and villages.

Westnetz said that power substations and transformers were switched off when flooded.

Some are now hard to reach for testing, cleaning, and repair work because many roads are still flooded or damaged.

Some installations which suffered major damage can be temporarily replaced by switching to alternative supply sites, or to emergency generators.

Chinese Communist Tech Attempts To Buy US Army Simulation Developer.

Tencent – a tech firm flagged as a “tool” of the Chinese Communist Party – is attempting to buy a German game developer used by Western countries to conduct military simulations.

The tech company, which counts former Obama campaign directors as lobbyists and Biden White House members as investors, is reportedly offering over $350 million for the company Crytek.

First revealed by the German newspaper Bild, the potential acquisition has led to “fear that the Chinese want to use the “CryEngine” developed by Crytek to produce war simulation programs for the Chinese army.”

“With these, China could rehearse the war against Taiwan and the West more realistically than ever before,” the report adds.

Such concerns are not misplaced, as the U.S. State Department has highlighted the tech firm’s close ties to the Chinese government, labeling it a “tool of Communist Party influence and control.”

Significantly, the modern “China Model” is built upon a foundation of technology-facilitated surveillance and social control. These techniques for ruling China have been – and continue to be – in critical ways developed, built, and maintained on behalf of the Party-State by technology firms such as Huawei, Tencent, ZTE, Alibaba, and Baidu. As these companies export their products and services to the rest of the world, the security and human rights problems associated with this “China Model” are progressively exported with them.

Poland enforces controversial near-total abortion ban

A controversial near-total ban on abortion in Poland has taken effect, the government announced, with enforcement from midnight on Wednesday.

A court ruling allowing the prohibition prompted huge protests when it was issued in October.

Abortion is now allowed only in cases of rape or incest or when the pregnancy threatens the life of the mother.

The majority of Poles oppose a stricter ban and demonstrations took place in Polish cities on Wednesday evening.

The October ruling by the Constitutional Court found that a 1993 law allowing abortion in cases of severe and irreversible foetal abnormalities was unconstitutional.

The ruling provoked outrage from supporters of the right to abortion.

But Poland's conservative government, which has strong ties to the country's powerful Catholic Church, supports the ruling.

The court justified its ruling on the grounds that "an unborn child is a human being" and therefore it deserves protection under Poland's constitution which ensures the right to life.

Following the announcement that the ruling would now be enforced, groups defied coronavirus restrictions to protest in Warsaw.
