CDC Reverses Guidance, Will Mandate Wearing Of Masks Indoors

Update (1015ET): The New York Times has confirmed (with its sources) that the CDC is expected to recommend on Tuesday that people vaccinated for the coronavirus resume wearing masks indoors under certain circumstances, reversing a decision made just two months ago.

As recently as last week, an agency spokesman said that the C.D.C. had no plans to change its guidance, unless there were a significant change in the science. The CDC plans to provide a media update on the pandemic at 3pmET.

“I think that’s great,” said Dr. Celine Gounder, an infectious disease specialist at Bellevue Hospital Center in New York.

Based on what scientists are learning about the Delta’s variant’s ability to cause breakthrough infections, she said, “this is a move in the right direction.”

Well, we are happy someone is pleased that the nation is taking a step back towards Einsteinian insanity.

‘Mossad cell’ arrested over plans to provoke violence during ongoing protests in Iran, Tehran claims

Members of an armed cell who allegedly worked with Israel’s Mossad spy agency and planned to provoke violence during protests in Iran have been detained, Tehran’s Intelligence Ministry has told local media.

The group, which allegedly had access to a heavy shipment of weapons and ammunition, was recently apprehended after entering Iran through its western border, an official from the ministry told the Fars news agency.

The official didn’t elaborate on the size of the unit or the nationality of those arrested, but they insisted that the suspects were acting in cooperation with Mossad, the Israeli spy agency.

The weapons seized from the alleged agents included pistols, grenades, rifles, shotguns, and ammo. The arms were being brought into Iran to be used during “urban riots and assassinations,” according to the ministry official.

The announcement comes after several weeks of demonstrations in Iran against water shortages in the southwest of the country, caused by severe drought. The unrest has resulted in at least five deaths among the protesters.

The Intelligence Ministry representative also claimed that Israel had been intending to carry out “acts of sabotage” during the Iranian presidential election in mid-June, which was won by hardline candidate Ebrahim Raisi. The country’s security forces prevented those activities, he added, and “dealt a blow to the Mossad terrorist network.”

He also thanked Iranians for their “constant vigilance,” while urging the public to remain wary of any "suspicious offers," particularly if made online.

Tehran has long accused Israel intelligence of undertaking malign activities on Iranian territory in an attempt to undermine the country’s stability and derail its nuclear program.

The two blasts that rocked the Natanz nuclear site in April 2021 and July 2020, as well as the assassination of a top scientist in Iran’s nuclear program, Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, in November 2020, have been linked to Mossad by Iranian officials.

While the Israeli government has not claimed or denied responsibility for those incidents, recently retired Mossad chief Yossi Cohen implied last month that his agency could well have played a part in them.

Senior cardinal of Roman Catholic Church and former close ally of Pope Francis goes on trial in $412mn fraud case

The trial of 73-year-old former cardinal Angelo Becciu over allegations he fraudulently spent $412 million of church money began in a special Vatican courtroom on Tuesday, months after he was removed from his post by Pope Francis.

The court case marks the culmination of a two-year investigation that discovered the cardinal had been involved in spending €350 million ($412 million) to purchase a property on Sloane Avenue in the posh London neighborhood of Chelsea that went awry.

Prior to his dismissal in September, Becciu was in charge of donations at the Vatican office that handles Church funds. He had been a close ally of Pope Francis and is the most senior Vatican official to stand trial for financial misconduct. The crimes he is accused of include funneling donations to businesses run by his brothers on the Italian island of Sardinia. Becciu has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.

Alongside the cardinal, nine other defendants, who all deny wrongdoing, are on trial for extortion, embezzlement, money laundering and abuse of office. The case is being heard in a special courtroom set up in the Vatican Museums that has the space required to conduct the trial in a Covid-safe setting.

Two hearings will be held this week before the trial is expected to be adjourned until October. The case is set to last for several months before a judgment will be rendered. It comes after Pope France announced in April that he will allow lay judges to oversee cases involving cardinals and bishops, rather than it being handled by cardinals, as had been tradition.

“I think this trial marks a turning point that can bring about greater credibility of the Holy See in financial areas,” Father Juan Antonio Guerrero, the Vatican’s newly appointed finance chief said. He pledged to make the Church’s financial matters more transparent.

Pulling the Symptoms field out of the CSV file and dumping it into Word is a Massive Undertaking. Word cannot handle the data and it sucks. Lots of crashes.

This case involves a 66-year-old male patient who was inadvertently administered the INFLUENZA QUADRIVAL A-B HIGH DOSE HV VACCINE [FLUZONE HIGH-DOSE QUADRIVALENT] prefilled syringe twice (lot UJ535AA, expiry date not reported) (extra dose administered). Medical history, medical treatment(s), vaccination(s) and family history were not provided. Patient received no concomitant vaccines. It was reported that the patient was inadvertently administered the Fluzone High-Dose vaccine twice, once on 25-Sep-2020 and again on 09-Nov-2020. Patient received no concomitant vaccines. Vaccines were administered at a retail pharmacy. Pharmacist reported that, so far, the patient has not reported any adverse effects related to the Fluzone High-Dose. Pharmacist had the lot number and expiration date for the second Fluzone High-Dose injection administered on 09-Nov-2020 but not for the first one administered on 25-Sep-2020. It was case of actual medication error due to extra dose administered. At the time of report, no adverse event was reported. This suspected adverse reaction report is submitted and classified as a medication error solely and exclusively to ensure the marketing authorization holder's compliance with the requirements set out in Directive 2001/83/EC and Module VI of the Good Pharmacovigilance Practices. The classification as a medical error is in no way intended, nor should it be interpreted or construed as an allegation or claim made by the marketing authorization holder that any third party has contributed to or is to be held liable for the occurrence of this medication error. There will be no information available on the lot number (of first dose) for this case.

NIH Director & Fauci Boss Advises Chinese Military Proxy-Linked Group Working Alongside COVID-19 Gene Storage Firm.

National Institutes of Health director Dr. Francis Collins serves on the advisory board of a conference sponsored by a Chinese military-linked genomics firm, The National Pulse can reveal. The D.C.-based, health industry big-wig and boss to Anthony Fauci has even referred to the controversial company’s founder as a “friend”.

The annual event in question – the International Conference on Genomics – is organized by BGI Genomics and the China National GeneBank.

BGI Genomics has been flagged by U.S. intelligence officials for its robust efforts to “collect, store and exploit biometric information” on American citizens through COVID-19 test kits. According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the firm has deep ties to both the Chinese Communist Party and its military.

In January 2021, Director of the National Counterintelligence and Security Center William Evanina told CBS News that U.S.-based, foreign-controlled labs are “modern-day Trojan horses.”

“BGI comes to the U.S. bearing gifts, but harboring other motives. It’s unclear whether BGI, or any COVID tester, would get DNA from nasal swabs, he says, but the labs are a way to establish a foothold, to bring their equipment here, start mining your data, and set up shop in your neighborhood,” the report claims.

That the group is linked with the head of the U.S. National Institutes of Health should raise immediate alarms.

Hundreds of children sexually abused over several decades in London council's care on a scale ‘hard to comprehend’ – inquiry

The Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse has found that more than 700 children in the care of London's Lambeth Council were abused for several decades as part of a “toxic power game.”

In a Tuesday report, the inquiry alleged that children in the care of Lambeth Council “were subjected to levels of cruelty and sexual abuse that are hard to comprehend” at three care homes – Shirley Oaks, South Vale, and Angell Road – “where violence and sexual assault were allowed to flourish.”

Since the 1960s, Lambeth Council allegedly received complaints of sexual abuse from 705 former residents of the care homes, however only “one senior employee” was ever disciplined by the council.

“The report finds that the true scale of the sexual abuse against children in Lambeth's care will never be known, but it is certain to be significantly higher than is formally recorded,” declared the inquiry, which also alleged that black children in the care of the council experienced racism and “abusive treatment.”

Following the revelation that a child who was found dead at Shirley Oaks in 1977 had complained about sexual abuse in the care home, the inquiry is now calling on the Metropolitan Police to consider whether a criminal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death should be launched.

Inquiry Chairwoman Alexis Jay – who led the similar 2014 investigation into Rotherham child sexual abuse, which found at least 1,400 victims and implicated members of the council – said the children in Lambeth “became pawns in a toxic power game” between “the Council and central government.”

“There was a vicious and regressive culture, for which a succession of leading elected members were mainly responsible, aided and abetted in some instances by self-serving senior officials,” Jay declared, adding that the culture “contributed to allowing children in their care to suffer the most horrendous sexual abuse.”

Lambeth Council formally apologised on Tuesday for its failure to protect vulnerable children, with council leader Claire Holland calling the report “deeply shocking.”

These vigilante groups pose as children online and allow the predators to do all the talking as not to entrap them before scheduling a meeting and exposing the pedophiles.

The template for these encounters usually involves the alleged pedophile showing up to meet who they think is a child, and meeting the pedophile hunter instead. This is the same method employed by the highly popular show To Catch a Predator.

The group Colorado Ped Patrol is one of the most successful of these organizations and has a record of over 90 confrontations in just the last three months — highlighting the serious problem of online predators attempting to meet children. One of the alleged predators to be ensnared by their tactics is making headlines this week as his job consisted of locking people like himself up.

The Central Bucks Regional Police Department was exposed this week for having a child predator within their ranks. Officer Clifford Horn, 54, of Chalfont, PA, was busted by the Ped Patrol this week and his arrest was livestreamed directly to YouTube.

“They would confront the individual and notify local law enforcement. The citizens provided the responding officers with screen shots of conversations and detailed information that was shared between the citizens and the suspects,” Atlantic City police said in a press release.

According to the group, Horn used the Grindr app to arrange a meeting with a person he thought was a 14-year-old boy for sex. The group gave police screen shots of their exchange, which included a photo of the officer in his underwear.

In a statement, District Attorney Matt Weintraub said his office “will begin the process of evaluating all Bucks County criminal cases in which Cpl. Horn was involved.

“The Bucks County District Attorney’s Office is aware of the investigation and arrest of CBRPD Corporal Clifford Horn in Atlantic County, New Jersey,” Weintraub said. “Our office has assigned personnel to assist New Jersey authorities in any capacity, and to investigate and prosecute any criminal activity that may have occurred in Bucks County. This office protects all victims, regardless of whether the accused perpetrator is an officer of the law or not.”

“I know he was something because he wouldn’t answer, he didn’t want to incriminate himself. He didn’t want to talk,” Thomas Fellows, the founder of Colorado Ped Patrol, told ABC 6.

Fellows has been conducting these stings for the last five months since he founded the Ped Patrol and his actions have helped police make dozens of arrests. Fellows says he started the group because his own son was molested.

“My brother-in-law molested my son seven years ago, so that’s the reason why I do this today,” Fellows said.

Former GOP Sen. Mike Enzi Dies After Bicycle Accident

Retired Sen. Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.) died on Monday after a bicycle accident last week left him seriously injured.

Enzi’s family announced his passing in a post on Twitter.

Enzi’s political career began with two terms as mayor of Gillette, before serving in both the Wyoming House of Representatives and the state Senate.

In 1996, Enzi was elected to the U.S. Senate, where he served until 2020, when he did not seek reelection.

In Washington, Enzi boasted a consistently conservative voting record, while also earning a reputation as a lawmaker able to work across the aisle.

“I like doing legislation. I’ve developed a pathway that brings people together. I’ve gotten to work with an incredible staff that have made it possible to do more than a senator by himself could do,” Enzi said in 2019, announcing he was not seeking another term.

“During my life I’ve followed my Mom’s advice, my core values: Do what’s right. Do your best. Treat others as they want to be treated,” he said at the time.

Boris Johnson Restores Stop and Search Police Powers in the UK in Crime Crackdown

Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced on Tuesday that the government will seek to empower police with the ability to stop and search people, part of a package of measures to tackle the country’s knife crime epidemic.

Apart from the increased police powers on the streets, the government is also proposing to expand the use of electronic monitoring tags for convicted thieves and burglars to track their location constantly after they are released from prison.

The government also plans to make unpaid work for those who have committed anti-social and other offences more visible, by having offenders clean up streets, alleys, estates, and open spaces in bright reflective outfits.

“Somebody’s anti-social crime may be seen as a minor crime, but it can be deeply distressing for those who are victims,” Johnson said, adding: “If you are guilty of anti-social behaviour, I don’t see any reason you shouldn’t be out there in one of the florescent-jacketed chain gangs, visibly paying your debt to society.”

Supposed “Republican” Oklahoma Rep. Markwayne Mullin appeared on C-SPAN to commend the Capitol police officer who shot and killed unarmed Air Force veteran Ashli Babbitt in the Capitol on January 6.

“After it happened, he came over,” Mullin told C-SPAN. “He was physically and emotionally distraught. I actually gave him a hug and I said, ‘sir, you did what you had to do.'”

Key South African ports declare ‘force majeure’ after cyberattack

South Africa’s state-owned ports and freight rail operator Transnet has declared “force majeure” at the country’s main container terminals because of “an act of cyberattack, security intrusion and sabotage” that struck last week.

The measure, which releases a company from fulfilling contractual obligations, affects key container terminals in Durban, Ngqura, Port Elizabeth and Cape Town, Reuters reported Tuesday, citing a note dated Monday that Transnet sent to customers.

In a joint statement published on Monday, 57 organizations - including the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Physicians and the National League for Nursing -noted the rise in case in the U.S. due to the Indian 'Delta' variant spreading among unvaccinated populations.

'We call for all health care and long-term care employers to require their employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

'The health and safety of U.S. workers, families, communities, and the nation depends on it.'

The groups add that mandating vaccines will help protect not only patients but also vulnerable people, including unvaccinated children and the immunocompromised.

It comes as several health systems across the country mandate that their staff members get vaccinated or risk being fired.

Several experts and institutions have issued statements supporting that all health workers get vaccinated, but the joint statement is the largest to date.

'While we recognize some workers cannot be vaccinated because of identified medical reasons and should be exempted from a mandate, they constitute a small minority of all workers,' the statement read.

'Employers should consider any applicable state laws on a case-by-case basis.'

Boris Johnson has promised to bring back “chain gangs” as a deterrent for antisocial behaviour.

The prime minister said there was “no reason” why offenders should not be forced to wear high-vis jackets while carrying out unpaid work. It would ensure they were “visibly paying their debt to society,” he said.

He referred to them as “fluorescent-jacketed chain gangs” in a move likely to cause controversy due to their historical use in the southern US states and the Transportation era in Australia. Among the plans is a pledge to give every victim of crime a named police officer that they can contact wherever they live in the country.

He defended plans to permanently relax conditions on the use of controversial Section 60 stop and search powers, effectively undoing reforms brought in by Theresa May, his predecessor. Stop and search is used disproportionately on black people but Johnson insisted it was not a “strong-arm” tactic and had the backing of parents.

All burglars and thieves who have served a jail sentence of a year will automatically be fitted with a GPS tag on their release, allowing police and probation services to track their movements.

It is time to recalibrate the government.

For years now, we have suffered the injustices, cruelties, corruption and abuse of an entrenched government bureaucracy that has no regard for the Constitution or the rights of the citizenry.

By “government,” I’m not referring to the highly partisan, two-party bureaucracy of the Republicans and Democrats. Rather, I’m referring to “government” with a capital “G,” the entrenched Deep State that is unaffected by elections, unaltered by populist movements, and has set itself beyond the reach of the law.

We are overdue for a systemic check on the government’s overreaches and power grabs.

We have lingered too long in this strange twilight zone where ego trumps justice, propaganda perverts truth, and imperial presidents—empowered to indulge their authoritarian tendencies by legalistic courts, corrupt legislatures and a disinterested, distracted populace—rule by fiat rather than by the rule of law.

This COVID-19 pandemic has provided the government with the perfect excuse to lay claim to a long laundry list of terrifying lockdown powers (at both the federal and state level) that override the Constitution: the ability to suspend the Constitution, indefinitely detain American citizens, bypass the courts, quarantine whole communities or segments of the population, override the First Amendment by outlawing religious gatherings and assemblies of more than a few people, shut down entire industries and manipulate the economy, muzzle dissidents, reshape financial markets, create a digital currency (and thus further restrict the use of cash), determine who should live or die, and impose health mandates on large segments of the population.

These kinds of crises tend to bring out the authoritarian tendencies in government.

That’s no surprise: power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Where we find ourselves now is in the unenviable position of needing to rein in all three branches of government—the Executive, the Judicial, and the Legislative—that have exceeded their authority and grown drunk on power.

This is exactly the kind of concentrated, absolute power the founders attempted to guard against by establishing a system of checks of balances that separate and shares power between three co-equal branches: the executive, the legislative and the judiciary.

In the last few weeks, politicians and senior public health officials have insisted over and over that unvaccinated Americans account for essentially ALL of the deaths of people from Covid.

At a White House press briefing on July 22, for example, Surgeon General Vivek Murthy said that “99.5 percent of Covid deaths and 97 percent of hospitalizations are [emphasis added] among the unvaccinated.”

Note that “are,” please. Are is PRESENT tense, something happening NOW.

Murthy isn’t alone.

On Independence Day, Dr. Anthony Fauci answered a question on Meet The Press about deaths IN JUNE by saying that “if you look at the number of deaths, 99.2 percent of them are unvaccinated. About 0.8 percent are vaccinated.”

To be clear on the math here, Fauci’s answer would imply that only about 80 vaccinated people – 0.8 percent of 10,000 – died in June.

These are – how do I put this delicately? – big fat stinking lies. They are off by a factor of at least five, and probably 10 or more.

Let’s put aside that the way public health authorities define vaccinated is NOT the way most people think of being vaccinated. Had one shot of either the Pfizer or Moderna mRNA vaccines? You’re not vaccinated. Had two? Still not vaccinated, not for two weeks.

In countries where health authorities are more honest, statistics on hospitalizations and deaths have three categories – “fully” vaccinated, “partially” vaccinated, and “unvaccinated.” Many cases fall in the middle category. In fact, data show that the vaccines can cause an increase in infections and deaths for up to two weeks after the first dose, possibly because they temporarily suppress immunity by recruiting so many white blood cells to the area of the injection.

The truth is that if we were treating vaccines like other drugs, we would include the “partially” vaccinated cases in the “vaccinated” category because they have occurred AFTER treatment has begun.

The United States does the opposite. When it reports statistics on vaccine hospitalizations or deaths, it ignores partly vaccinated people. They are lumped with those who have never received a dose as “unvaccinated.”

This trick is particularly galling now that the vaccine companies and the government have acknowledged the fact that the mRNA shots begin to lose their protective effect in a matter of months and that many people will need boosters soon.

Biden Gives “Five Eyes” What It Always Wanted: Access To Everyone’s Social Media

For years, Americans have largely ignored corporate social media surveillance. But that all of that is about to change, thanks to President Biden.

No one has taken the White House’s plan to turn Big Tech into a quasi-Five Eyes censorship program seriously despite repeated warnings from journalists and news websites.

Journalist Caitlin Johnstone warned that the White House is pushing for Facebook and Microsoft to censor any social media stories the Feds don’t like.

“After Press Secretary Jen Psaki admitted on Thursday that the administration has given Facebook a list of accounts to ban for spreading misinformation about the Covid vaccine, she has now doubled down saying that people who circulate such materials online should be banned from not just one but all social media platforms.”

The Feds want Big Tech to ban stories and people they do not approve of from social media.

“You shouldn’t be banned from one platform and not others for providing misinformation out there,” Psaki told the press on Friday.

Reuters revealed some of America’s biggest tech companies will let “Five Eyes” and the U.N. decide whose stories the “Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism” should censor.

“Until now, the Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism’s (GIFCT) database has focused on videos and images from terrorist groups on a United Nations list and so has largely consisted of content from Islamist extremist organizations such as Islamic State, al Qaeda and the Taliban.”

Big Tech’s GIFCT is essentially a Five Eyes censorship program, masquerading as a Big Tech social media forum to stop terrorism and extremism.

“Over the next few months, the group will add attacker manifestos — often shared by sympathizers after white supremacist violence — and other publications and links flagged by U.N. initiative Tech Against Terrorism. It will use lists from intelligence-sharing group Five Eyes, adding URLs and PDFs from more groups, including the Proud Boys, the Three Percenters and neo-Nazis.”

Twitter and YouTube are also helping help Five Eyes spy on the world’s social media.

“The firms, which include Twitter and YouTube, share “hashes,” unique numerical representations of original pieces of content that have been removed from their services. Other platforms use these to identify the same content on their own sites in order to review or remove it.”

Other companies that have access to the GIFCT database are Reddit, Snapchat, Instagram, Verizon Media, LinkedIn, Dropbox, MailChimp and Airbnb.

Three years ago the mass media warned us about Five Eyes demanding that tech companies give them backdoors to users’ encrypted data, and now they finally got their wish.

The dangers of Big Tech giving URLs, PDFs and personal information to a global intelligence agency will allow governments to secretly track and ID people and organizations they deem a threat.

Radio New Zealand said if one government has access to this information, then other governments will request it as part of doing business with another country.

Biden Announces Change of Role in Iraq, But Troops Will Remain

Biden and Iraqi PM Kadhimi said the US 'combat' mission in Iraq will be over by the end of the year

On Monday, President Biden and Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi agreed that the US “combat” mission in Iraq will be over by the end of the year, but US troops will remain in the country in an advisory role.

“I think things are going well. Our role in Iraq will be … to be available to continue to train, to assist, to help, and to deal with ISIS — as it arrives. But we’re not going to be, by the end of the year, in a combat mission,” Biden told reporters alongside Kadhimi.

There are currently 2,500 US troops in Iraq under the umbrella of the US-led anti-ISIS coalition. It’s not clear if any troops will be pulled out of the country when the US formally switches roles. A drawdown is possible, but the announcement is being interpreted as a symbolic one by most US media outlets.

The US plan to formally change its role in Iraq was first reported last week. On Saturday, a report from The New York Times cited unnamed Pentagon officials who said the US will remove a “small but unspecified number of the 2,500 American forces currently stationed in Iraq.”

Kadhimi has been under intense domestic pressure to get US forces to leave Iraq since he came into office in May 2020. Earlier that year, Iraq’s parliament voted unanimously to expel US troops after Iranian Gen. Qasem Soleimani and Iraqi militia leader Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis were killed by a US drone strike in Baghdad.

More pressure has been on Kadhimi since Biden bombed Iraqi militias in Syria and Iraq last month. The US carried out similar airstrikes in Syria in February. Considering the US has been bombing Iraq for 30 years, there are many elements in the country that want US troops to leave, and it is unlikely that changing the label of the occupation will placate them.

Jeff Jackson spars with voter over controversial issue at town hall

North Carolina Democratic Senate hopeful Jeff Jackson said critical race theory "doesn't exist" after a voter asked for his position on the controversial curriculum.

At a Friday town hall in Columbus, Jackson refused to say whether he supports teaching critical race theory in schools, instead denying the existence of the educational theory that claims that the history of the United States, as well as modern issues, can be explained through the lens of white supremacy.

"It's literally not happening, ma'am," Jackson said. "It's not about whether we're against it or for it, it's about a party that's convinced people it's a threat, but it doesn't exist."

"Oh, it doesn't exist?" the voter responded, waving her hands in frustration. "Okay. Okay."

Democratic candidates across the country have echoed Jackson's sentiment. Virginia gubernatorial nominee Terry McAuliffe, for example, dismissed critical race theory as a "right-wing conspiracy," ignoring the fact that his top union backers have defended teaching the curriculum in schools. In New York, meanwhile, a constituent accused Rep. Sean Maloney of insulting his intelligence after the Democrat dismissed his concerns over critical race theory.

"I think somebody's trying to get you all mad about this for no reason," Maloney said before calling critical race theory "a law school academic methodology" that "a bunch of smart demagogues at Fox News" picked up "to make everybody pissed off about it."

Friday's town hall was not the first time Jackson declined to take a stance on teaching critical race theory in public schools. At a July forum in Holly Springs, the state legislator told a voter that the drafting of racial curriculum should be left to local education officials. Jackson's campaign did not return a request for comment.

While Jackson and other Democrats claim critical race theory is not being taught in K-12 classrooms, a California school district in June approved a "new Ethnic Studies policy" that is "informed by and will include Critical Race Theory and the Liberated Ethnic Studies Model Curriculum." The district's board allocated $40 million to implement the curriculum, which starts in preschool.

Jackson faces a crowded primary field in his bid to replace outgoing GOP senator Richard Burr. His opponents include former North Carolina Supreme Court chief justice Cheri Beasley and former state senator Erica Smith. Smith has likened Jackson to failed Senate candidate Cal Cunningham, who lost to Republican incumbent Thom Tillis after cheating on his wife.

"Dan McCready. Cal Cunningham. And now, Jeff Jackson," Smith wrote in a June fundraising email. "When it comes to identifying candidates who can build winning campaigns and beat Republicans, the Democratic Party doesn't exactly have a great track record. That's because the Democratic establishment insists on nominating moderate candidates who can't win."

Jackson leads the primary in fundraising as of June 30, taking in $2 million to Beasley's $1.3 million and Smith's $310,000.

Senators reach $2 billion, bipartisan deal to fund cash-strapped Capitol Police

The senators are expected to file the bill Tuesday, which means it can go to the Senate floor as early as Wednesday.

The Senate on Tuesday announced a $2 billion bipartisan deal to fund the U.S. Capitol Police, which is facing a major funding crunch for costs associate with its response to the Jan. 6 Capitol breach.

The deal was announced by Sens. Patrick Leahy, a Vermont Democrat, and Richard Shelby, an Alabama Republican.

"We're going to take care of the Capitol Police and fix some of the problems that need to be done here, certainly take care of the National Guard," Leahy told reporters. "Both sides had to compromise on some things, but I think we're in pretty good shape."

Leahy and Shelby are expected to file their bill Tuesday afternoon, and it can go to the floor as early as Wednesday.

The deal, if passed, would reimburse the National Guard with $521 million and spend $100 million on the Capitol Police. More than $300 million is also included for increased security improvements around the Capitol building, according to The Hill newspaper.

A similar package was passed by the House in May that included $44 million for Capitol Police. The funds were to be used for training, equipment and trauma support among other things, the Hill reports. However, the bill stalled in the Senate due to opposition from the GOP.

Department of Justice Declares COVID-19 Vaccine Mandates Legal

Federal law doesn't prohibit public agencies, private business from requiring vaccines for employees

The Department of Justice concluded in an opinion that federal law doesn’t prohibit public agencies and private businesses from requiring COVID-19 vaccines under the Food and Drug Administration’s emergency use authorization.

On Monday, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, California, and New York City said they would require some of their government workers to get the COVID-19 shot or be tested weekly. Veterans Affairs, with the move, became the first federal agency to mandate the vaccine.

The Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel on Monday wrote (pdf) that because access to COVID-19 vaccines are more commonplace, “numerous educational institutions, employers, and other entities across the United States” have said they will require some individuals to be vaccinated against the virus as a condition of employment, participation, benefit, service, or relationship.

“For instance,” it added, “certain schools will require vaccination in order for students to attend class in person, and certain employers will require vaccination as a condition of employment.”

The opinion, which noted that some have questioned the legality of such mandates, concluded that federal law concerning the FDA’s emergency use authorizations (EUA) on COVID-19 vaccines made by Moderna, Pfizer, and Johnson & Johnson doesn’t “prohibit public or private entities from imposing vaccine requirements, even when the only vaccines available are those authorized under EUAs.”

With the Justice Department’s statement and Monday’s Veterans Affairs mandate, it appears to leave the door open for other federal agencies to make COVID-19 vaccines a requirement for employees.

Rutgers University became the first university to mandate them for both employees and students earlier this year. And last week, Carnegie Hall in Manhattan announced it will require audience members, staff, and performers to provide proof of vaccination before entering the building.

The Justice Department’s opinion comes as messaging from mainstream media outlets, some government officials, and world leaders around vaccines have become increasingly forceful in recent days. Amid reports of an increase in “Delta” variant cases, authorities in France and Italy recently introduce vaccine passport-type systems to enter private businesses including restaurants, gyms, theaters, and more, which triggered widespread demonstrations over the past weekend across Europe.

Responding to the vaccine opinion, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio told MSNBC: “Public sector entities need to move as quickly as possible. This DOJ decision is important. I think that will be helpful. We have got to put pressure on this situation.”

Weird stealth marketing is hardly new — remember the time Watch Dogs sent a bomb-like package to members of the media, and told them threateningly to "check their voicemail"? Yikes.

Anyway, this isn't quite as upsetting, at least — but it has freaked some people out a little bit, because they're not entirely sure how Epic got their addresses. What's more, the postcards reportedly have no sender, and no text to explain what they're for, so they might look to most people like spam.

On video game forum ResetEra, a few people have noted that they've received the postcards above despite having never played Fortnite, or even having an Epic Game Store account. Some people, conversely, are annoyed that they've been playing Fortnite for years, and have zero free postcards. So, what's going on?

One theory going around is that video game merch site iam8bit has given their addresses over to Epic (or, at least, whoever's handling this marketing campaign on behalf of Epic), or that their mailing list is part of a much larger aggregated "video game fans" list of addresses. This hasn't been confirmed, though.

Whatever the story behind the address mystery, there's one thing people generally agree on now: the teasers all seem to be pointing towards aliens coming to Fortnite (although earlier in the week, people were speculating that it was Xbox, or Coldplay). Since we've already heard the rumour that Samus Aran will be in the game soon, that would make sense.

There's a phone number on the postcards, which originates from Roswell, New Mexico. When you call the number, it plays a horrible noise (aliens?) and someone saying "there is something weird going on". But there's a lot more to it than that, apparently — with the use of fancy scientific methods like spectrograms to find hidden messages in the audio files, people have slowly begun to piece together what the postcards mean.

A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) document obtained by ABC News shows that “breakthrough” COVID-19 infections — people who are already vaccinated who still get infected by the coronavirus — are extremely rare, despite headlines and scare stories in the media.

More than 156 million Americans have been fully vaccinated. The CDC estimates that there have been approximately 153,000 infections of vaccinated individuals — about 0.098 percent. This number comes from an unpublished internal CDC document obtained by ABC News.

“The risk to fully vaccinated people is dramatically less than that to unvaccinated individuals. The occurrence of breakthrough cases is expected and, at this point, is not at a level that should raise any concerns about the performance of the currently available vaccines,” Matthew Ferrari, director of the Center for Infectious Disease Dynamics at Pennsylvania State University, told ABC News.

Coronavirus cases are now at their highest point since early May, according to CDC data, with the U.S. average nearly quadrupling since June to 47,000 new cases a day, largely driven by the highly infectious delta variant, which now accounts for more than 83% of new cases nationwide.

Virus-related hospitalizations have also increased, with more than 27,000 patients hospitalized around the country, though that number is still significantly lower than in January, when over 125,000 patients were receiving care at one time.

The media hype suggests that it’s still not safe even if you’re fully vaccinated. This New York Times article — despite giving the obligatory nod to the rarity of breakthrough infections — still tries to gin up panic about the virus.

The reports are becoming “increasingly frequent” because the media is choosing to cover the issue. One supposes the justification is that the “man bites dog” story is newsworthy. If you have been vaccinated, you don’t have to worry about spreading COVID. You don’t need to wear a mask. Any mask mandates at this point are ludicrous. Matt Gaetz’s future sister-in-law slams ‘pedophile’ congressman on TikTok: report

Rep. Matt Gaetz’s future sister-in-law has reportedly described the embattled Florida congressman as “weird and creepy” and said she was “unfortunately not surprised” he is under federal investigation for alleged sex crimes.

Roxanne Luckey, 20 — the sister of Gaetz’s fiancée, Ginger Luckey — lambasted the Republican pol in three TikTok videos over his alleged treatment of young women, according to the Daily Beast.

On Monday, she alleged that Gaetz pressured an older man to court her when she was 19 — calling the move “weird and creepy” and claiming he yelled at her and her mom and went “full lawyer” when confronted, the outlet reported.

“I saw the character and type of person he is, and when everything came out about him, I honestly, unfortunately, was not surprised,” Roxanne, who worked as a White House intern last year, said on TikTok.

“As someone who has personally experienced a ton of creepy old politician men hitting on me when I was underage, and experiencing sexual assault at that age by people of power, it’s very disheartening and I have zero tolerance of people like [Gaetz],” she said, adding that she was “tired of them getting away with this type of stuff.”

Ginger responded to the videos by telling the Daily Beast that her sister had a history of “destructive behavior.”

Roxanne said she decided to open up partly because of her interactions with powerful men and her belief that it is important to “hold people accountable to whatever extent we can.”

“There is so much more to the story and about what I know about Matt Gaetz. It is definitely a serious situation,” she said.

In a video she posted Sunday, she was seen dancing and lip-synching to Lana Del Ray’s “Jealous Girl.”

The clip also featured a New York Times headline reading “Matt Gaetz Is Said to Face Justice Dept. Inquiry Over Sex With an Underage Girl.”

“When a creepy old man tries to hit on you at the bar but your sisters [sic] engaged to a literal pedophile,” wrote Roxanne, who the following day apologized for using the term “pedophile” and changed her description to “ephebophile.”

The term refers to someone who is sexually attracted primarily to those in mid- to late adolescence — mostly ages 15 to 19.

Roxanne — who said she had been sexually assaulted by “people of power” — described an alleged incident last summer when Gaetz tried to set her up with a friend, a divorced dad, when she was a 19-year-old intern at the Trump White House.

She recounted that the man was “creepy” and made her feel uncomfortable, even after she rejected his advances and told him she had a boyfriend, according to the news outlet.

Roxanne said that when the unidentified man eventually apologized, he passed the blame for his aggressive actions on to Gaetz.

“Sorry about what I said, I just wanted to get Matt off my back,” she claimed the man said.

Roxanne said that when she later confronted Gaetz about the episode at a family gathering, he tried to gaslight her.

Guatemala’s Top Anti-Corruption Prosecutor Flees Country

Just hours after being fired, Guatemala's top anti-corruption investigator fled on Saturday to El Salvador, claiming he had to "safeguard his life" and avoid being used by corrupt officials.

Juan Francisco Sandoval, who had led the Guatemalan Special Prosecutor’s Office Against Impunity (FECI) until Friday, was recently told not to investigate officials under President Alejandro Giammattei without the attorney general's consent.

In a move that sparked international disapproval, Guatemala's Attorney General Maria Porras removed Sandoval from his post at FECI – which was originally created to tackle investigations in conjunction with the U.N.-backed International Commission Against Impunity in Guatemala (CICIG).

However, former president Jimmy Morales terminated the agreement with the Commission in 2019 after both the FECI and the Commission singled him out for electoral corruption.

Human Rights Watch (HRW) expressed serious concerns at the time, saying “violence and extortion by powerful criminal organizations remain serious problems in Guatemala.”

“Sadly, this has become a situation that many public servants in Guatemala have had to go through simply because we are not useful for the regime,” Sandoval said, according to the Associated Press.

“Wherever I am, I’m going to continue working for the good of the people of Guatemala, but for my own safety, I am not going to be used by people who have made exploiting government funds a way of life,” he said.

The Attorney General's Office said Sandoval had been let go due to "constant abuses" of the institution.

His firing sparked criticism from humanitarian groups and public officials globally and protesters gathered outside Guatemala's presidential palace on Saturday.

The Center against Corruption and Impunity in the North of Central America (CCINOC) said the decision would create "setbacks in the fight against corruption in the region."

Julie Chung, the U.S. acting assistant secretary of state for Western Hemisphere Affairs, wrote on Twitter that Sandoval’s firing “is a step backward for the rule of law” in Guatemala. She added that his removal “contributes to the perception that there is a systematic effort in Guatemala to weaken those who fight against corruption.”

Samantha Power, administrator of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), called Sandoval’s firing by Porras an “outrageous move”: “The Guatemalan people deserve better.”

This comes just a few months after U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris visited the country and stressed the office’s importance, during a growing push against anti-corruption efforts in the country.

Rio Grande Valley Sector (RGV) Border Patrol agents identified a registered sex offender attempting to sponsor a 16-year-old migrant teenager.

Saturday, McAllen Station Border Patrol agents working near McAllen, Texas, encountered a group of 85 migrants as they walked from the Rio Grande into the United States. During virtual processing, an unaccompanied 16-year-old female from Guatemala, provided the name of a male subject who she claimed was a family friend. By memory, she provided demographic information of her alleged sponsor, which is rare and raised concern from agents and a CBP officer working virtually in Canada to assist our agents with the overwhelming number of migrants at the Donna Processing Facility. Following the verification process, agents made contact with a male California resident. The subject stated to agents, that he was a friend of a close family friend. Due to inconsistencies in the subject’s stories, agents grew suspicious. Upon further investigation, agents discovered the subject is a registered sex offender out of Oroville, California. “RGV Sector agents are tirelessly working to ensure unaccompanied children are not harmed and sent with individuals in our communities who seek to prey on children,” said Chief Brian Hastings, RGV Sector Border Patrol Chief Patrol Agent. Due to the diligence of the CBP officer and agents, the unaccompanied female juvenile is safe, and all proper authorities have been notified.

As more cases of unaccompanied juvenile migrants arise, public awareness is imperative, as migrants face dangers each day. “Although we are faced with the rising numbers of apprehensions, our Border Patrol agents utilize their investigative techniques and work collaboratively with other law enforcement authorities to safeguard migrant children.” The public is encouraged to take a stand against crime in their communities and report suspicious activity by calling 800-863-9382.

National police crack down on more than 190 cases of human trafficking for six months

Police have cracked down on 198 cases of human trafficking and sexual exploitation for the first six months, a slight increase if compared to that of last year, according to Interior Minister Sar Kheng.

Kheng said on Monday that the Department of Anti-Human Trafficking and minor Protection and National Police have apprehended 291 suspects, sent them to court andrescued 721 victims.

He said that the Municipal and Provincial Police have inspected 1,074 suspected sex trafficking activities on 1,249 people, including 1,036 women.

He said that police also prevented human trafficking and sexual exploitation at massage parlors and karaoke.

Kheng added that from January to June 2021, National Committee for Counter Trafficking recorded a total of 63,269 migrant workers, 27,162 of whom are women.

He said that border police have intercepted 593 illegal migrants, including 197 women from going abroad for work.

He added that the migrant workers were from Battambang, Koh Kong, Banteay Meanchey, Takeo, and Svay Rieng provinces.

Texas House Speaker Issues First Arrest Warrant For Fugitive Democrat Who Fled State

Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan (R) issued an arrest warrant on Sunday for Democratic Rep. Philip Cortez, who fled the state along with other Democrats to Washington DC in order to stonewall a pair of GOP-backed election integrity bills (and then became super-spreaders).

Citing his constitutional duty to do so, Phelan ordered the sergeant-at-arms or "any officer appointed by him" to arrest Cortez, after the Democratic Rep. vowed to return to Austin for a "good faith dialogue" with his colleagues on the voting legislation. Cortez, however, made a quick 180 and returned to Washington to rendezvous with almost 60 Democratic lawmakers, according to the Washington Examiner.

Cortez's initial bid to return to the Lone Star State was met with backlash from fellow Democrats, though the lawmaker said his decision to return to the district was due to a lack of "substantive results" in his conversion with House Republicans regarding the voting bills.

"After discussions on improving House Bill 3 have not produced progress, I have rejoined my Democratic colleagues in Washington, D.C. I stand firm in my resolve to remain with the Democratic Caucus until the special session ends and to do whatever it takes to fight for the freedom to vote for all Texans," he said in a statement. -Washington Examiner

Phelan, meanwhile, says Cortez has "irrevocably broken" his "trust and the trust of this chamber."

"As a condition of being granted permission to temporarily leave the House floor, Rep. Cortez promised his House colleagues that he would return," he added. "Instead, he fled the state."

The Democratic theatrics followed an order by Gov. Greg Abbott to deliberate on Senate Bill 1 and House Bill 3 - legislation that would ban drive-thru voting, strengthen voter ID requirements for mail-in ballots, and prevent officials from sending voting applications to people who didn't request them. While S.B. 1 was passed by the Senate, H.B. 3 has been stalled due to the Democrats' stunt.

The arrest warrant follows a vote earlier this month by House Republicans to hunt down the lawmakers "under warrant of arrest if necessary," following the Democrats' actions. As the Examiner further notes, "The Washington excursion has raised eyebrows with ethics experts after state Rep. Armando Walle projected that the cost of the excursion will top $1.5 million by the time it ends, as he indicated that the chartered private flights to Washington cost $100,000 alone."

Democrats say that taxpayer funds were not used for the excursion - however state Republicans have noted that upward of $1 million will be paid by Texans due to the prolonging of a special session.

Chevron’s Devastating Pollution of Ecuadorian Amazon: Donziger Slams Criminal Contempt Ruling as ‘Message of Intimidation’ to Human Rights Lawyers

Human rights lawyer Steven Donziger said Monday that he is a victim of an “obvious travesty of justice” and vowed to appeal after a judge found him guilty on six counts of criminal contempt of court.

The ruling by U.S. District Judge Loretta Preska marks the latest development in a case that stems from Donziger’s role in securing a historic, multibillion-dollar settlement against Chevron over the oil giant’s devastating pollution of the Ecuadorian Amazon.

Chevron has not paid any of the 2011 settlement, which the corporation claims was improperly obtained.

While the Ecuadorian Supreme Court upheld the original settlement, Chevron has relentlessly pushed its fraud claims in U.S. court. In 2014, a federal judge with connections to Chevron ruled—based on testimony from a witness who has since admitted to lying—that Donziger was guilty of a “pattern of racketeering activity,” a charge he has denied.

Donziger was then ordered to turn over his cell phone and computer to Chevron. When he appealed on the grounds that the devices contained client information, U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan hit the attorney with criminal contempt charges that ultimately landed him under house arrest, where he has remained for more than 700 days.

In a statement (pdf) Monday, Donziger characterized Preska’s ruling as “the latest attempt by Chevron and its judicial allies to criminalize me and to send a message of intimidation to legitimate human rights lawyers who successfully challenge the major polluters of the fossil fuel industry.”

“The decision marks a sad day for the rule of law, for our democracy, and for our planet,” Donziger added. “The United States has now become one of those countries where environmental advocates are attacked, put in jail, or even murdered for doing their jobs successfully.”

Donziger went on to describe Preska’s decision as “the result of a patently unfair trial process that she and Judge Kaplan structured to undermine my defense and to make me appear guilty.”

In 2019, after the Southern District of New York declined to take up the case against Donziger, Kaplan appointed a Chevron-connected private law firm to pursue the prosecution. Kaplan then handpicked Preska—previously a member of the Chevron-funded Federalist Society—to preside over the case.

In his statement Monday, Donziger said Preska “let Chevron’s own lawyers testify” against him “while protecting them from having to disclose how much Chevron paid them.”

“Judge Preska already has detained me in my home for 720 days when the longest sentence ever given for my supposed ‘crime’ is 90 days of home confinement,” Donziger said. “We have a strong appeal and I look forward to the opportunity to brief the appellate court on this obvious travesty of justice. I also repeat my call for Judge Preska to release me immediately so I can return to my human rights work and help those in Ecuador who are suffering and dying because of Chevron’s dumping of billions of gallons of cancer-causing toxic waste into the Amazon.”

Israel Green Lights Vaccinating Kids Aged 5-11 With Severe Underlying Illness

Israel is poised to begin vaccinating children aged five to 11 who have severe underlying health problems, after the Health Ministry told health maintenance organizations that it was permissible on Tuesday.

To begin with, the ministry said that children in this age group will only be vaccinated when there is “a high likelihood of severe illness and even death” from contracting the coronavirus.

Each child will be examined individually and that the jab will only be approved on a case-by-case basis, the ministry added.

Conditions mentioned by the Health Ministry as a possible basis for considering vaccination of children include extreme obesity, severe chronic lung diseases, a severely compromised immune system, neurodevelopmental disorders, and congestive heart failure.

Earlier this month, the panel of coronavirus experts advising the Health Ministry began examining the possibility of beginning to vaccinate children under the age of 12 with serious underlying medical conditions.

A member of the panel told Haaretz then that there were disagreements on approving the move, as Pfizer has not yet completed its clinical trials of its vaccine in the age group.

The pharmaceutical giant is expected to complete the trials in September, after which it can request approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
