Former President Barack Obama didn’t listen to Pentagon officials when they told him Taliban mullah Khairullah Khairkhwa was too dangerous to release. Instead, he freed the group that came to be known as the ‘Gitmo five’ — Khairkhwa alongside four of his buddies — from the Guantanamo Bay prison in 2014 in exchange for a U.S. soldier who deserted his post.

Obama all but guaranteed that Khairkhwa and the four other men would be sent to Qatar, where their movements would be restricted and where they could do no harm. As it turns out, the Taliban isn’t as trustworthy as the former president thought.

Now, Khairkhwa has resurfaced as one of the masterminds behind the Taliban’s takeover of Kabul, the New York Post reported Tuesday.

The Taliban leaders didn’t grow any fonder of America while they were locked up. After their release, the Taliban five made contact with active Taliban extremists in Afghanistan and vowed they would return to fight against America.

The Gitmo five were among the Taliban representatives negotiating for peace in Afghanistan, which eventually led to the U.S. withdrawing troops in the region. Khairkhwa has said in the past that the Taliban wouldn’t launch a military offensive if Biden withdrew troops from Afghanistan. Shockingly, it doesn’t appear that the Taliban has kept its word.

In 2001, Khairkhwa was accused of collaborating with Osama bin Laden, and was subsequently arrested. When Obama released him, Khairkhwa wasn’t shy about wanting to establish strict Islamic rule in Afghanistan — and that’s just what he’s doing.

The Obama-Biden administration was notoriously lax on their treatment of Gitmo prisoners. Former President Donald Trump tightened the reins during his time in office, but Biden has reinstated Obama’s policy of releasing dangerous prisoners.

The Hebrew etymology in the Biblical story may reflect an attempt to cancel out traces of Moses's Egyptian origins.[28] The Egyptian character of his name was recognized as such by ancient Jewish writers like Philo and Josephus.[28] Philo linked Moses's name (Ancient Greek: Μωϋσῆς, romanized: Mōysēs, lit. 'Mōusḗs') to the Egyptian (Coptic) word for 'water' (möu, μῶυ), in reference to his finding in the Nile and the biblical folk etymology.[29] Josephus, in his Antiquities of the Jews, claims that the second element, -esês, meant 'those who are saved'. The capture of Afghanistan by the Taliban is “another American scam against Muslims.” That’s according to Ramzan Kadyrov, the leader of Russia’s Chechnya region, who suggested that the terrorist group is controlled by Washington.

Speaking on a video posted by one of his sons, Adam, Kadyrov urged everyone to be on guard.

Doctor here from Indian Town Florida. A guy named Q just came into ER with shortness of breath and tested positive with the Delta Variant. Three Suspects — Including Ex-Priest — Busted on Child Sex Trafficking Charges

 

Three Michigan men were arrested on Friday for allegedly planning to meet up with teenagers for sex.

 

The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that Aaron Nowicki, 37, Benjamin Simpkin, 41, and Micah Rickerd, 23, were apprehended during a daylong operation at a hotel, where they planned to meet the victims. The three suspects spoke online with the undercover agents, who were masquerading as minors, before the meeting, according to WPBN.

 

Nowicki, Simpkin, Rickerd allegedly all believed they were meeting with children 15 or younger.

 

Police said Nowicki is a non-practicing Catholic priest who intended to have sex with a 15-year-old boy. Following his arrest, the Diocese of Marquette explained in a statement that Nowicki resigned as a priest in January 2019 due to “allegations of serious, but not criminal, sexual misconduct with a vulnerable adult.”

 

The Diocese reported the allegations to Michigan Attorney General.

 

Nowicki, Simpkin, Rickerd’s bonds were set at $100,000.

Gazelka won't be drawn on Carnahan resignation calls in wake of strategist's child sex trafficking arrest

 

Meanwhile, Carnahan has challenged the GOP executive board to call a confidence vote.

 

While the Minnesota GOP has been roiled by controversy over the past week, with chairwoman Jennifer Carnahan the subject of calls to resign, there has been mostly silence from the state's top elected Republicans.

 

While there have been statements condemning child sex trafficking in the wake of Anton Lazzaro's indictment, there have been few such comments on the future of Carnahan – who is facing calls to resign from some party members for her close links to Lazzaro and her response to his indictment, and criticism for the way she has run the state party amid allegations of discord, harassment, and financial mismanagement within the party's upper echelons, which she denies.

 

The likes of U.S. Reps. Michelle Fischbach (R-CD7), Tom Emmer (R-CD4), Pete Stauber (R-CD8), have not commented publicly on the future of Carnahan, who is married to Rep. Paul Hagedorn (R-CD1).

 

Breaking his silence on Monday was Senate Majority Leader Paul Gazelka, issued a brief post on Twitter in which he stated any decisions on Carnahan's future should be left to the relevant party authorities.

 

"There are allegations that have come to light regarding the leadership at the state party. I fully trust the executive board and state central delegates to find a path forward for our party. It’s very important that we look at all of the facts before we make any decisions," he tweeted, before issuing an addendum a few hours later that backed Lazzaro's arrest, and decried sex trafficking.

 

The comment by Gazelka, who is reported to be mulling a run for governor in 2022 and as such would require the backing of the party in the event he wins, is in marked contrast to comments he made when complaints of sexual harassment were recently made within the Senate DFL Party, with a former staffer alleging that her complaint against another staff member went un-investigated.

 

At the time, Gazelka and his fellow Senate Republican leaders called for an independent investigation to get to the bottom of the allegations, but in the instance of his own party, he believes it should be handled internally by the GOP board and delegates.

 

While Gazelka has issued a brief statement, House Minority Leader Kurt Daudt has not commented on Carnahan's position, only to debunk a claim that he was working to keep her as chairwoman.

Carnahan challenges party executive to call confidence vote

 

Since the indictment was released, the Minnesota GOP has sought to distance itself from Lazzaro, with Carnahan on Monday depicting him as primarily a donor to Republican causes.

 

This is despite Lazzaro having been involved in at least state campaigns – Carnahan's run for party chair in 2017 and Lacy Johnson's 5th District run in 2020 – being a semi-regular talking head guest on FOX New, hosting a political podcast with Carnahan in 2019/20 called #TruthMatters, and attending Carnahan's wedding in 2018 to Rep. Jim Hagedorn.

Carnahan does seem to acknowledge that relationship in her statement, but argues that "there is no way for us to know the personal background of every contributor to the party – even those donors with whom we have a regular and consistent relationship," again ignoring that Lazzaro seems to have had a greater role in the party in recent years than as solely a donor.

 

Nonetheless, a defiant Carnahan challenged the GOP executive board to take a vote of confidence or no confidence in her, knowing that they would need a vote of 10-5 to remove her as state party chairwoman. She continues to claim she is the victim of a "coup" attempt, as well as being the subject of "misinformation."

 

On Monday, the Minnesota GOP also took the unusual step of publishing an extensive statement defending Carnahan from Ronald Huetll, Jr., the party's finance, compliance, and HR director.

 

He claims the pressure being exerted on Carnahan currently is "unethical and untruthful" and those who engage in it – which includes a growing number of elected Republican lawmakers including Sens. Karin Housley and Roger Chamberlain – "should be ashamed of themselves."

As the music industry reels over a bombshell lawsuit accusing Bob Dylan of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old, some can’t help but recall the infamous, horrific rumors about many a rock star whose alleged dirty deeds destroyed the lives of star-struck young girls.

Fuchs, who claimed in 2015 that she was raped at the age of 16 by the Runaways’ now deceased manager, Kim Fowley, said exploitation of young fans has been common for decades — along with other demands.

Preparing to rebuild the international economic system while World War II was still being fought, 730 delegates from all 44 Allied nations gathered at the Mount Washington Hotel in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire, United States, for the United Nations Monetary and Financial Conference, also known as the Bretton Woods Conference. The delegates deliberated from 1 to 22 July 1944, and signed the Bretton Woods agreement on its final day. Setting up a system of rules, institutions, and procedures to regulate the international monetary system, these accords established the IMF and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), which today is part of the World Bank Group. The United States, which controlled two-thirds of the world's gold, insisted that the Bretton Woods system rest on both gold and the US dollar. Soviet representatives attended the conference but later declined to ratify the final agreements, charging that the institutions they had created were "branches of Wall Street".[1] These organizations became operational in 1945 after a sufficient number of countries had ratified the agreement.

 

On 15 August 1971, the United States unilaterally terminated convertibility of the US dollar to gold, effectively bringing the Bretton Woods system to an end and rendering the dollar a fiat currency.[2] Shortly thereafter, many fixed currencies (such as the pound sterling) also became free-floating.[3] The Bretton Woods system was over by 1973.[3] The subsequent era was characterized by floating exchange rates.[4]

Just chatted with an American citizen I know who's parents are from Afghanistan. Asked if Afghans are fearful of the Taliban. He said urban people are less likely to support the Taliban than rural people, and about 50% of the rural people do support them. Said people are thankful there was not much bloodshed in this process and feel that though some freedoms will be lost, the stability (no war) is something most are willing to live with. He said they have lived through worse and are not easily shaken. Though they are not necessarily happy about this, neither are they shaken.

 

My takeaway: Perhaps Afghanistan for Afghans (local nationalism) is not a bad idea.

Gumbs was fingered for the brutal shooting death of an innocent bystander heading to his Canarsie home from a Midnight church service on New Year’s Eve 2004.

 

Gumbs has served 17-and-a-half years out of a 25-year sentence. He has served as the youth counselor at Sing Sing prison and earned an associate’s degree from Mercy College and is pursuing a job as a plumber.

 

He also granted clemency to Jon-Adrian Velasquez, 45, who was convicted of second-degree murder and attempted murder, three counts of robbery in 1999.

 

Velazquez was sentenced in the shooting death of retired police officer Albert Ward at an illegal gambling hall in Harlem in 1998.

 

Velazquez claimed he was wrongfully convicted.

 

His plea to have his conviction overturned was championed by actor Martin Sheen, who had met with him in prison and appeared at press conferences on his behalf.
