Former teacher, pandemic commentator faces sexual-abuse allegations

A former York Catholic District School Board teacher who emerged as a prominent, polarizing social media presence during the COVID-19 pandemic, is facing allegations of sexually, psychologically and emotionally abusing students.

 

The allegations against Ryan Imgrund are outlined in a notice of hearing by the Ontario College of Teachers, a regulatory body for the province’s teaching profession. A disciplinary hearing for Mr. Imgrund will follow.

 

Mr. Imgrund did not respond to requests for comment on Friday. He resigned from the college in June.

 

The former teacher described himself as a biostatistician and amassed a wide following on social media for his commentary on provincial measures to combat COVID-19.

 

In the notice, it is alleged that Mr. Imgrund abused five female students, with the incidents dating back to September, 2016. All five students were on a school team that Mr. Imgrund coached, according to the notice.

 

The college said that between September, 2017, and February, 2021, Mr. Imgrund “engaged in an inappropriate personal relationship” with one of the students.

 

The college said he sent her “numerous” personal messages, took her for long drives, sent shirtless pictures of himself, and messaged her to say “‘if you don’t say I’m good looking I’ll cry,’ or words to that effect.”

 

When the student stopped replying to his messages, he “yelled at, and/or scolded her, and/or told her that he needed to be respected and/or otherwise communicated to her that she should continue to engage in electronic communications with him,” the college stated.

 

He also sent the other students “numerous messages of a personal nature,” the college stated.

 

The college alleged that during one-on-one practices with three of the students between September, 2016, and February, 2021, Mr. Imgrund used a “technique requiring the students to push their buttocks up against him.”

Navy says all UFO videos are classified, won’t be released

 

Watchdog filed information request but was quickly denied.

 

A watchdog group seeking access to unidentified flying object footage has been rejected with the unambiguous message that, due to heavy classification, none of the government’s media on UFOs will be released.

 

The Black Vault reported this week that starting in April 2020 it sought to acquire all "Unidentified Aerial Phenomena" videos within the files of Naval Air Systems Command. Three such videos had already been leaked from government databases before being officially released by NAVAIR.

 

The division subsequently denied that request, citing no such videos in its possession. A request filed with the Office of Naval Intelligence was met with a similar response.

 

A third request filed with the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations was finally met with a comprehensive rejection, one that said "the requested videos contain sensitive information pertaining to Unidentified Aerial Phenomena and are classified and are exempt from disclosure in their entirety."

 

The agency also said: "The release of this information will harm national security as it may provide adversaries valuable information regarding Department of Defense/Navy operations, vulnerabilities, and/or capabilities. No portions of the videos can be segregated for release."

 

The Black Vault noted that the CNO offered an uncharacteristically thorough explanation for its rejection in what may have been an attempt to head off an appeal.

 

"While three UAP videos were released in the past, the facts specific to those three videos are unique in that those videos were initially released via unofficial channels before official release," the agency said, noting that "given the amount of information in the public domain regarding these encounters, it was possible to release the files without further damage to national security."

 

The Black Vault said it nevertheless "filed an appeal seeking the release of the videos denied."

Turns out Mark Wahlberg agrees with us. Wahlberg explained in a recent interview why actors should stay out of politics and stick with acting. He also says his new movie Patriots Day will remind people how special and great America’s people, police and military members truly are.

“A lot of Hollywood is living in a bubble,” says Wahlberg, who has acting credits that date back to the early 90’s and has produced and starred in some of the most successful TV shows and blockbusters of the last to decades.

 

“They’re pretty out of touch with the common person, the everyday guy out there providing for their family,” he said. “Me, I’m very aware of the real world. I come from the real world and I exist in the real world. And although I can navigate Hollywood and I love the business and the opportunities it’s afforded me, I also understand what it’s like not to have all that.”

Lebanon to get food aid from Russia

 

The request for grains, oil derivatives and other humanitarian aid was approved in the absence of NGO help

 

Russia has approved Lebanon’s request for humanitarian aid, Lebanese ambassador Chawki Bou Nassar confirmed on Friday during a meeting with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov. Moscow will send cereals, foodstuffs, oil derivatives, and other much-needed supplies, as requested by Lebanese Prime Minister-designate Najib Mikati in May.

 

Discussions on resuming direct flights between the two countries were also progressing, Nassar said, though Western sanctions on Russian carriers and attendant restrictions on surrounding airspace mean any potential routes must meet strict requirements.

 

The aid package is separate from another package that Russian ambassador Alexander Rudakov said had been approved by Moscow to deliver to Lebanon. That proposal would supply 40,000 tons of wheat on a monthly basis through the end of 2022, but it has only received “preliminary approval” from Lebanon.

 

US ambassador Dorothy Shea last month sought to one-up Russia and other countries like China and Iran that have offered to help Beirut with its multilayered economic crisis, instead offering a $29.5-million donation from USAID.

 

While Lebanon previously imported about two thirds of its wheat from Ukraine, the war has seen a sizable portion of that country’s grain exports rerouted to Europe as barter for foreign aid dollars Kiev can never hope to repay. Even before the conflict escalated in February, over 2.2 million Lebanese were facing hunger, by some estimates.

 

PM Mikati urged the UN to provide food aid in March, pointing to a constellation of crises, including an economic collapse that reduced the Lebanese currency to a tenth of its pre-2019 value, the explosion of Beirut’s main grain storage facility in 2020, and the presence of millions of Syrian and Palestinian refugees. Even if importers are able to find substitutes for the Ukrainian grain no longer bound for Beirut, many Lebanese won’t be able to afford them, trade syndicate president Hani Bohsali told UPI in March.

 

Negotiations with the International Monetary Fund to unlock a promised $3 billion in aid remain “ongoing,” according to Nassar, who said he expected the replacement of Mikati's caretaker government with permanent leadership would bring “confidence” to the talks. The IMF is reportedly frustrated with Hezbollah and other political factions holding out hope that offshore oil and gas fields could be the country’s financial salvation and is calling instead for the imposition of a standard debt repayment plan, fueled by the usual slate of austerity measures.

Explanation: Fans of our fair planet might recognize the outlines of these cosmic clouds. On the left, bright emission outlined by dark, obscuring dust lanes seems to trace a continental shape, lending the popular name North America Nebula to the emission region cataloged as NGC 7000. To the right, just off the North America Nebula's east coast, is IC 5070, whose avian profile suggests the Pelican Nebula. The two bright nebulae are about 1,500 light-years away, part of the same large and complex star forming region, almost as nearby as the better-known Orion Nebula. At that distance, the 3 degree wide field of view would span 80 light-years. This careful cosmic portrait uses narrowband images combined to highlight the bright ionization fronts and the characteristic glow from atomic hydrogen, and oxygen gas. These nebulae can be seen with binoculars from a dark location. Look northeast of bright star Deneb in Cygnus the Swan, soaring high in the northern summer night sky.

King Charles III wishes for '17 days of mourning' after Queen Elizabeth II's death

King Charles III has requested a further week of Royal Mourning following the Queen’s funeral.

 

Buckingham Palace has said that it is the King’s wish that a period of Royal Mourning be observed from now until seven days after the Queen’s funeral.

 

The statement said the date of the funeral will be confirmed in due course.

 

In the meantime, the Royal residences will close until after the Queen’s funeral.

September 10, 2022

 

BARTOW, FL – The Polk County Sheriff’s Office ran a seven-day operation that was designed to lure in not only those who participate in prostitution but also identify persons who may be victims of human trafficking.

The operation was a success with 160 people being arrested for various crimes along with at least two human trafficking victims potentially saved.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd took the podium at a press conference to release the conclusion of a recent sex offender operation dubbed “Fall Haul 2.” The operation, which was launched on August 30th, was designed to lure in people who believed they were meeting with prostitutes.

Sheriff Judd announced the success of the operation which yielded a total of 160 people being charged with various crimes related to sex offenses. In all, the Sheriff’s Office was able to charge 52 felony and 216 misdemeanor charges against those arrested.

Sheriff Judd reported only 16 of the people who were arrested were from Polk County and the rest were from other counties in Florida or out-of-state residents.

Sheriff Judd said that those arrested ranged in age from 19 to 64 years of age. During the press conference, Sheriff Judd said:

“I think the people of Polk County are about to get the message that if you come here and violate the law, we’re going to put you in jail, and Brian Haas and his prosecutors are going to prosecute you…We’re pleased that it was only 16 [residents] of 160.Central Florida needs to catch a clue.”

All the queen’s horses and all the queen’s dogs — what’s going to happen to Queen Elizabeth II’s beloved animals now that she has died?

 

Queen Elizabeth adored animals, especially horses, cows and, perhaps most of all, her corgis.

 

The monarch, 96, died on Sept. 8, and senior members of the Royal Family rushed to Balmoral Castle in Scotland to be at her bedside.

 

And while her life was chock-full of impressive achievements and interests over the course of her 70-year reign, perhaps none was more enduring or long-spanning as her love for animals.

 

Over the course of her life, the queen owned more than 30 dogs — the majority of them being Pembroke Welsh Corgis.

 

She was gifted her first corgi, Susan, on her 18th birthday. Many of her subsequent dogs were descendants of Susan.

 

The dogs, which look very similar to little bread loaves, were often spotted at the queen’s feet both inside her palatial homes as well as running around on the various royal estates.

 

In 2015, Elizabeth decided she would stop bringing new dogs under her care out of fear of leaving any puppies behind, Monty Roberts, a royal horse whisperer told Vanity Fair.

 

However, she had a change of heart when her husband, Prince Philip, passed away in 2021, reports NPR, and accepted two new puppies given to her by her son, Prince Andrew.

 

And while virtually every single detail in the aftermath of her death has been carefully planned, it’s not known exactly what will happen to her remaining pups, of which there are at least four — two corgis named Muick and Sandy, a dachshund-corgi cross named Candy and a cocker spaniel named Lissy.

 

Joe Little, a royal biographer and managing editor of Majesty magazine, told CNN he believes the dogs will be cared for by royal staff before being adopted by Princess Anne and Prince Andrew.

 

“Princess Anne has had corgis of her own in the past,” he explained. “The two most recent additions came from the Duke of York and his daughters, so perhaps they could go to him. It’s unlikely that they’ll be split up.”

 

Claudia Joseph, a journalist based in London, told the New York Post that other family members might also be able to adopt the dogs.

 

“Andrew has cocker spaniels so he might take back the one he gave her. William and Kate also love dogs, so they could have them,” she said.

 

Royal biographer Ingrid Seward, told Newsweek that her bet is on Andrew taking the pups, but author Penny Junor has said it’s also possible that members of the queen’s staff could step up as the dogs’ new owners.

 

“Care of the dogs has fallen sometimes to footmen but mostly to the Queen’s trusted dressmaker, assistant and right-hand woman, Angela Kelly, and to her equally trusted page of many years standing, Paul Whybrew, who was seen walking with the queen and the dogs in the James Bond spoof,” she wrote in her 2018 book, All The Queen’s Corgis.

 

Junor added: “Both are fond of the dogs, have unfettered access to the queen and are said to be very close to her.”

 

“The Queen went out walking with her dogs every day… The Queen grew up with corgis, fearless little dogs bred for herding cattle. Her father brought a corgi home when she was seven, and she was not without one — for decades afterward.”

 

The queen appeared in a rare cameo as herself, alongside her corgis and then-James Bond Daniel Craig, in a video created for the 2012 London Olympic Games opening ceremony.

 

Twitter had a special crowned corgi emoji in place for this year’s Platinum Jubilee-related hashtags, while one of the U.K.’s major grocers sold specialty chocolate Swiss roll corgi cake to celebrate the occasion, known as Clarence the Corgi.

 

The Royal Family has not made an official statement on what will happen to Queen Elizabeth’s dogs, but there’s no doubt the dogs will be reassigned to loving homes.

Navy plane crash lands on banks of San Diego Bay

 

September 10, 2022

 

A small jet plane veered off a Naval air base and crashed into the rocky banks of the San Diego Bay Saturday afternoon as impacts from Tropical Storm Kay rattled Southern California.

 

The Navy-contracted plane was attempting to land at Naval Air Station North Island in Coronado when it slid off the runway around 1:15 p.m., according to Fox Weather.

 

Thetwo people aboard the Learjet 35were able to exit the plane and were being examined at a hospital, the report said.

The immediate aftermath of the crash landing was captured by the San Diego Web Cam, but visibility was too poor to see the landing, the camera operators said.

The crash caused the aircraft’s tail to rest on the rocky banks of the bay while its nose perched over the water, the footage showed.

Tropical Storm Kay was 100 miles south of the landing strip at the time, delivering rain and gusty winds to the area, according to the report.

San Diego Airport had reported 0.52″ of rainfall in three hours around the time of the incident.

The crash was under federal investigation.

Oberlin to pay bakery $36M in defamation suit over racial profiling

Oberlin College has agreed to pay over $36 million to the family-owned bakery the Ohio school falsely accused of being racist in a shoplifting incident.

 

Gibson’s Bakery filed suit against the progressive college in 2017 for siding with three black students who claimed the store racially profiled them when they were caught stealing from the shop the year before.

 

The hefty payout comes after the Ohio Supreme Court last month denied Oberlin’s bid to hear its appeal of the 2019 jury verdict, which found that the college defamed the bakery when a staffer made flyers claiming that Gibson’s had a history of racial profiling.

he college announced the award in a statement Thursday, saying that the Board of Trustees decided not to push the matter further.

“We are disappointed by the Court’s decision. However, this does not diminish our respect for the law and the integrity of our legal system,” the small liberal arts college said.

Still, Oberlin said it “has initiated payment in full of the $36.59 million judgment in the Gibson’s bakery case” adding that it was awaiting bank information from the bakery to pay the damages and interest.

A heroes tribute: Navy SEALs Museum unveiled in honor of ‘Long Island son’ Michael Murphy

Michael P. Murphy graduated from Penn State University in 2000 with a double major in political science and psychology.

 

The 24-year-old Long Island native was talking about then heading off to law school next.

 

Instead, Murphy surprised his family and girlfriend by following his dream of becoming a Navy SEAL.

 

But then, Murphy’s military career took a turn when America was attacked on Sept. 11, 2001.

 

Four years later, Murphy was wrapping up his fourth deployment and was getting ready to wed his girlfriend of five years, Heather, in November.

 

But that all changed on June 28, 2005.

 

Murphy, along with three of his fellow teammates, Matthew G. Axelson, Danny Dietz, and Marcus Luttrell, had their position compromised in the rugged mountains of Afghanistan.

A battle ensued.

 

The SEAL team was pinned down by the heavy enemy fire.

 

In a courageous and selfless act of heroism, Murphy exposed himself from cover to gain radio communication with the team’s quick action response force.

 

The message was sent.

 

Murphy was killed at the age of 29, along with 18 other service members, during the tragic events of Operation Red Wing.

 

But his story may have never been properly told if it wasn’t for one man’s will to survive against the odds, Marcus Luttrell.

The book “Lone Survivor,” written by Luttrell in 2007 and later turned into a movie in 2013, recounted Murphy’s heroic last-ditch effort to save his team.

 

Now, nearly 10 miles away from Murphy’s Long Island hometown of Patchogue, The Lt. Michael P. Murphy Navy SEAL Museum opened in Sayville on June 28 – after five years in the making and17 years to the day of Operation Red Wing.

 

The second Navy SEAL museum in the country, the museum honors SEALs who have served and paid the ultimate sacrifice serving our country.

 

“It was never about Michael. As a family unit, it was a conscious decision not to make this about Michael,” his father, Daniel Murphy, told the Post. “It’s about the Navy Seals, the Navy Seal experience, and the history of Naval Special Warfare from the UDTs up through the present time.”

The Medal of Honor, the U.S. military’s highest decoration awarded posthumously to Murphy’s parents, sits on display upon entry. Above it is a portrait of Murphy with a quote his parents said he lived by: “Education will set you free.”

 

Paying tribute to the many organizations that helped contribute to the museum’s creation is the “Heart of the Museum” wall.

 

Thanks to generous donations of time, labor, and materials, the museum, which should have cost $5 million dollars to build, was cut down to $2 million, Daniel Murphy said.

 

Exhibits range from the SEALs’ early roots in World War II to the Underwater Demolition Teams during the Korean War, to their official creation during the Vietnam War, and to the killing of Osama Bin Laden by SEAL Team Six.

 

The museum has a vast display of weaponry and gear used by the teams, interactive exhibits, and even SEAL Adventure Ride.

 

“It’s amazing talking with the youth of today, where they’re showing excitement and interest in history, the military, and being a Seal,” said Chris Willey, the museum’s director and retired Navy SEAL.
