Million Passengers Stranded As Austrian Rail Strike Begins

 

Austrian rail traffic froze Monday, impacting critical transit routes between Europe's east and west, as workers held a 24-hour strike over pay disputes.

 

According to Reuters, the labor action has disrupted 8,000 connections and left more than a million passengers stranded.

 

"The railway union vida is on strike today from 00:00 to 24:00. For this reason, no trains can run all day throughout Austria and across borders," the country's federal railway system, OeBB, wrote on its website.

 

The labor action was last-minute after pay negotiations broke down between the rail workers' union and OeBB. The union demanded a 400 Euro increase due to the cost-of-living-crisis in the EU for the 50,000 rail workers. They were offered 208 euros plus a one-time payment of 1000 euros.

 

"Wedged between eight countries including Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Hungary, and the Czech Republic, Austria is an important hub for European rail travel," Reuters noted.

New Twitter Sign-Ups Hit All-Time Record Despite Cancel Campaign

 

Since Elon Musk bought Twitter with a pledge to restore free speech protections, the media and political establishment have maintained an unrelenting campaign to use pressure from corporations and foreign governments to force him to restore censorship policies. Reporters have covered seemingly every celebrity declaring that they are leaving the site or even selling their Teslas in protest. As companies joined the boycott, commentators gleefully announced the β€œdeath,” β€œcollapse,” and β€œdemise” of the social media company with some mocking Musk’s endangerment of billions for free speech. New figures, however, appear to show that the public is solidly with Musk on the free speech issue. New signups at Twitter are at an all-time high with two million new signups per day.

 

As these companies and activists demand censorship, customers are signing up in mass to embrace the greater diversity of viewpoints and expression at the company. While companies are yielding to demands from the left that they cut off ad revenue until Musk restores censorship, users are flocking to the site.

 

The over two million new sign-ups per day represent a 66% increase over the same time frame last year, according to figures released by Musk.

 

Of course, it has long been known that the public wants more, not less, free speech. It is the political establishment that is struggling to retain control over speech on social media at any cost. Facebook even tried a massive commercial campaign to convince the public to embrace censorship.

 

President Joe Biden has led calls for censorship on social media, which have been largely heeded by companies like Facebook and Twitter. Biden is accusing Twitter of β€œspewing lies all across the world” by seeking to reduce one of the largest censorship systems in history.

 

President Biden has previously accused social media companies of β€œkilling people” by refusing to impose robust censorship over a wide range of subjects. Many of those banned or censored were doctors with opposing views on the data and the science related to the pandemic.

 

We are now seeing increasing evidence of back channels used by government and political figures to maintain a censorship system by surrogate in the social media companies and foreign allies.

Feels like the clock is ticking and we have limited time to wake all those we can in order that they see the light and choose the light with their free will.

How Is The Central Dogma Evidence For Evolution?

The theory of chemical evolution states the formation of organic molecules from inorganic ones. Oparin and Haldane proposed this theory which is also called a chemical theory.

 

This theory states that first life originated from pre-existing, non-living organic molecules like RNA, proteins, etc. by chemical evolution. i.e. the formation of organic molecules from inorganic ones.

 

This chemical theory is explained dedicatedly by the Oparin-Haldane hypothesis suggesting that life arose gradually from inorganic molecules, with building blocks of life like amino acids forming first and then combining to make complex polymers like proteins.

At an early stage, life consisted of a self-replicating RNA system

 

It has been proposed that, at an early stage, life consisted of a self-replicating RNA system, and that DNA and proteins evolved later. This is in accordance with the RNA world hypothesis.

 

According to this RNA world hypothesis, simpler biopolymers came first and those evolved the ability to catalyze the production of RNA, which then took over the genetic control of the first formed simple living organisms.

 

Earlier that RNA was self-replicating and was a very stable-versatile compound in the ancestral first formed organisms and had the ability to control the genetic needs.

 

RNA had the capacity to help itself even further by segregating or synthesizing its own building blocks.

 

RNA was able to self-replicate and also able to catalyze the formation of various proteins but was non-living in nature.

 

In some present-day viruses (retroviruses), RNA is still the genetic compound as it was during the early days of evolution.

 

In retrovirus, the genetic flow of information is in reverse direction i.e from RNA to DNA.

 

RNA of the retroviruses first synthesizes DNA in the presence of Reverse Transcriptase enzyme. DNA then transfers information to RNA and the translation occurs. This is called the central dogma reverse model.

 

The presence of RNA makes the retroviruses still non-living. So, if the retrovirus enters a host cell it becomes living and can create a DNA pro-virus by reverse transcription mechanism.

 

That DNA pro-virus can replicate and form an RNA in the host cell which will later translate to proteins. And, those proteins can show the retroviral genetic traits in the host cell.

 

Mutation in accordance to Central Dogma

 

A gene mutation is a permanent alteration in the DNA base sequence, such that the sequence differs from what is found in most people or from its parents.

 

Mutations occur in very rare cases but, it does occur and had been occurring quite a few times during the course of evolution.

 

In rare cases, during a person’s life span there may be few cells where the mutation occurs.

 

These mutational changes can be caused by environmental factors such as UV from the sun, chemical factors, replication mistakes, or can occur if an error is made as DNA copies itself during cell division.

 

For example: In the human genome, there are over 3.1 billion bases of DNA, and each base must be faithfully replicated for cell division to occur. Mistakes, although surprisingly rare, do happen. And so about one in every 1010 (10,000,000,000) base pair is changed due to mutations as the DNA is passed to the next generation.

 

Another Example: The history of the gray treefrog,Β Hyla versicolor, is an example of mutation and its potential effects. When an ancestralΒ Hyla chrysocelisΒ gray treefrog failed to sort its 24 chromosomes during meiosis, the result wasΒ H. versicolor. This treefrog is identical in size, shape, and color toΒ H. chrysocelisΒ but has 48 chromosomes and a mating call that is different from the originalΒ H. chrysocelis.

 

These above examples show that mutation can occur in nature rarely. And, if occurred in an organism it changes the genetic sequence a bit.

 

And, if mutations had occurred again and again during the millions of years of history in the same organism, it can change the genetic sequence a lot and so can create new life forms that is new species.

 

Mutated DNA are altered DNA that will create a new type of mRNA and so new type of proteins showing different genetic traits, than the original life form. Thus, forming new species.

 

When a mutated DNA sequence is formed, that mutated DNA can self-replicate and produce more copies. These copies will form RNA and so RNA will later form Proteins. That’s in accordance with the Central Dogma Model.

 

Thus mutation is also helpful in understanding the Central Dogma’s evidence for evolution.

Billionaire Elon Musk used a meme to poke fun at Twitter’s content moderation policies – joking that even Revolutionary War hero Paul Revere would have faced censorship.

 

The Musk-shared meme on Monday was labeled β€œTwitter in 1775” and featured a tweet version of Revolutionary War hero Paul Revere’s famous warning about the looming British attack on the colonies.

 

β€œThe British are coming, the British are coming!” the fictional tweet said.

 

The meme joked that Twitter would have attached a disclaimer label to Revere’s post urging readers to β€œlearn how British taxes are beneficial for society.”

 

Later, Musk responded to a reply from one Twitter user who asked if he saw that β€œJBP” was recently banned from the app – an apparent reference to firebrand Canadian clinical psychologist Jordan Peterson, who was suspended over a tweet targeting transgender actor Elliot Page.

World’s Largest Active Volcano β€˜Mauna Loa’ in Hawaii Erupts for First Time in Nearly 40 Years

 

Authorities in Hawaii announced on Monday that Mauna Loa, the world’s largest active volcano, has begun erupting for the first time since 1984, sending volcanic ash and debris raining down in the nearby area.
