Russia’s grinding more than five months-long push to try to take Bakhmut has puzzled some Western military analysts.

 

LONDON — The founder of Russia’s most high-profile mercenary group said on Saturday he wanted his forces and the regular Russian army to capture the small city of Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine because it possessed “underground cities” that can hold troops and tanks.

 

Russia’s grinding more than five months-long push to try to take Bakhmut has puzzled some Western military analysts who have said that heavy losses incurred on the Russian side and the fact that Ukraine has built defensive lines to fall back to nearby mean any Russian victory there, if it happens, would be pyrrhic.

 

Yevgeny Prigozhin, founder of Russia’s Wagner mercenary group which is fighting in the battle of Bakhmut, set out in detail on Saturday why he thought its capture would be significant.

 

“The cherry on the cake is the system of Soledar and Bakhmut mines, which is actually a network of underground cities. It not only (has the ability to hold) a big group of people at a depth of 80-100 meters, but tanks and infantry fighting vehicles can also move about.”

 

Prigozhin, who would likely see his political capital in Moscow boosted if Bakhmut fell to Russia given Wagner’s role in the fighting there, said stockpiles of weapons had been stored in the underground complexes since World War One.

 

His comments were a reference to vast salt and other mines in the area which contain more than 100 miles of tunnels and a vast underground room which has hosted football matches and classical music concerts in more peaceful times.

 

A White House official said on Thursday that Washington believed Prigozhin wanted to take control of salt and gypsum mines in the area for commercial reasons. It made no mention of their alleged subterranean military use.

 

Prigozhin, who is sanctioned in the West, cited other advantages of taking Bakhmut, calling it “a serious logistics center” with unique defensive fortifications.

 

He made his comments on his press service’s Telegram channel as shellfire echoed around Bakhmut’s near-deserted streets on Saturday despite a self-declared Russian ceasefire to mark Orthodox Christmas, something Kyiv rejected as a ploy.

 

Bakhmut, which Russia calls Artyomovsk, is the focus of the most intense fighting in Ukraine, and Prigozhin made his comments as another Telegram channel associated with Wagner claimed Russia had captured a strategically-important settlement on Bakhmut’s outskirts.

 

Reuters could not independently verify the assertion.

 

The Russian defense ministry earlier on Saturday reported fierce fighting in eastern Ukraine.

 

A Ukrainian defense ministry spokesman said the town of Soledar, which is near Bakhmut and hosts a salt mine, was still under Ukrainian control despite what he described as fierce Russian assaults. (Reporting by Andrew Osborn Editing by Christina Fincher)

We were cheated out of much of what was Trumps agenda for four years, during which time “they” tried to prevent him from being elected, then inaugurated, and spent the rest of his term trying to remove him from office, and even impeached him AFTER his term, ALL on “Trumped-up” charges.

 

We were cheated out of effective people being appointed to key positions, due to approval processes, by people who HATE this country.

 

We were cheated out of several years of the “normalcy” that we had become accustomed to, due to “Covid”, and all of the idiocy that came with it, some of which we are still experiencing.

 

We were cheated out of the 2020 and 2022 elections, with no help from the courts, the legislatures, or the executive branch, at the federal or state levels.

 

The military and law enforcement have failed to step up. It is arguable that they would stand against their own sworn oaths of office, if so ordered. They have become a sham.

 

And the exposure from the Twitter files shows direct involvement of the IC (Intelligence Community - ALL OF THEM) AGAINST We the People and the Constitution.

 

And now, “they” are trying to prevent him from running again; the best we can expect is more of the same.

 

We will NOT be able to vote our way out of this mess; nor will we be able to pray our way out; though I caution against giving up either.

 

IMO, there is NO effective “Constitutional remedy”; nor is there a means for a “redress of grievances”.

Sorry, found another WWII vet talking about the Bataan Death March. DadAnon also flew with Jack, who survived it also. This veteran is 102 and the story is almost identical, down to the US planes bombing the Jap transport ship unaware Americans were onboard.

Jack was kept prisoner near the water because his "job" was to load coal barges. Thing is, they never said quit loading so Jack and crew loaded it until it sunk. They got beat but thought it was worth it. The only way they knew the war was over was all the guards went missing. They gradually worked up enough courage to start coming out and looking, proceeded to march out. The Japs were facing away from the road and bowing as they went by. Jack said they kicked as many as possible in the ass on the way out.

The only way anon got to hear the story was to be quiet and unobserved and the only time Jack talked about it there was beer involved. He told it like it was funny but even as a young kid anon was horrified yet honored to know a real American hero. Anon was blessed to meet several. Buzz, Jack, Bob. so many good men.

 

This one is much shorter but know many of these guys quit school and signed up at 16 years old. Hard to fathom.

Great story, these guys, it's hard to visualize, 25 year olds look young but they weren't even old enough to shave, many of them. The US power grid is under attack as extremists shoot, sabotage, and vandalize electrical equipment at power stations. One of the highest-profile attacks was when two men used guns to paralyze a substation in Washington state on Christmas Day, leaving thousands without electricity. The incident made national news, but strangely enough, another attack last week on the Las Vegas power grid went unnoticed by the national press.

 

Mohammad Mesmarian, 34, rammed his car through the gate of a solar power generation plant outside Las Vegas on Wednesday and set his car on fire, intending to damage a massive transformer, 8 News Now reported.

 

"Employees at the plant said they found a car smoldering in a generator pit," 8 News Now said, adding the Mega Solar Array facility provides power to 13 properties on the Las Vegas Strip, all belonging to MGM Resorts.

 

Investigators believe Mesmarian "siphoned gasoline from his car to put on wires at the transformer," 8 News Now said, citing documents from investigators.

 

"Mesmarian clarified he burned the Toyota Camry," police said. "Mesmarian said he burned the vehicle at a Tesla solar plant and did it 'for the future.'"

 

Here's security camera footage of Mesmarian lighting his car on fire next to a giant transformer.

 

8 News Now said Mesmarian caused "major damage," estimating it could take two years to receive parts and fix the transformer. Luckily, the damaged unit wasn't online at the time of the incident..

 

"Following an incident at the Mega Solar Array facility, on-site personnel immediately notified authorities and shut down the plant's operations as a precaution in accordance with industry-standard safety protocols," an Invenergy spokesperson said.

Note: I didn't read both stories (yet). What grabbed my eye is the juxtaposition of headlines. Two different deaths, at least one caused by a gun shot and the other maybe caused by a different "shot".

 

I'm making a big assumption here for purposes of making a point. Normally I would anticipate that the good samaritan would face more questioning about his actions than the person who likely/possibly gave the injection to the man in the second story. Why is that so? How did we get to the place that a death after a "medical procedure" hasn't for quite some time been questioned, no matter how probable the cause being the procedure itself?
