Gay teacher is FIRED from Catholic school after colleagues found photo of her kissing her girlfriend: Colorado diocese defends decision because she broke her contract and 'promise to parents'

February 9, 2023

A teacher at a Catholic school in Colorado was fired after officials found out she was in a relationship with a woman and saw a picture of her kissing her girlfriend.

Maggie Barton taught technology and media - and also coached basketball - at All Souls Catholic School in Englewood, Denver, for six years before she was sacked for breaking her contract and her 'promise to parents' on January 25.

The decision to fire her came about following an investigation by the Archdiocese of Denver - who found an image of her kissing another woman online.

The religious leaders - headed by Bishop Samuel J. Aquila - justified their actions, saying that all teachers are required to sign a contract ensuring that they will live their lives adhering to the teachings of the Catholic Church.

In the wake of her dismissal, the parent of a student, Kathy Weisbrod, set up a GoFundMe page to help her make ends meet. At the time of writing, the page has raised over $25,000.

'The public's not going to pay attention to that': Biden downplays House GOP's probes into Hunter and says he believesthe classified documents in his home were 'things from 1974' and 'stray papers' in post State of the Union sit-down

February 9, 2023

President Joe Biden said Wednesday that he didn't believe the House GOP's probe into his son Hunter and brother James' foreign business dealings would have an impact on his presidency.

'The public's not going to pay attention to that. They want these guys to do something,' Biden said. 'It's not going to go very far.'

The president sat down for a wide-ranging post-State of the Union interview with PBS NewsHour's Judy Woodruff, which included the admission that he hadn't made a final decision to run in 2024.

'I haven't made my decision, that's my intention, but I have not made that decision firmly yet,' he said.

One hiccup is House Oversight Chair James Comer's pledge to look into 'Biden family influence peddling,' often referencing the dealings with China and Ukraine in the same breath as classified documents being found in Biden's old D.C. office and his Wilmington home.

'They've informed me not to speak of this issue, to anyway prejudice the investigations going on,' Biden answered when asked about the document debacle by Woodruff.

Biden said he voluntarily invited investigators to comb through his documents.

'To the best of my knowledge, the kinds of things they picked up were things from 1974, stray papers. There may be something else I don't know,' he continued.

Hunter Biden's legal team asks Bannon, Stone, Giuliani others to preserve evidence for future lawsuits

Biden "has nothing to hide," his lawyers said. "The people who have yet to be held accountable for their wrongdoing are the recipients of these letters.”

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/hunter-biden-lawyers-bannon-stone-giuliani-lawsuits-rcna69824

Hunter Biden’s legal team sent letters to Rudy Giuliani, Roger Stone, Steve Bannon and 11 others on Wednesday, asking them to preserve potential evidence for future lawsuits related to the alleged theft of personal data that may include information from his laptop, according to documents obtained by NBC News.

The move is the latest in a new legal strategy by lawyers for President Joe Biden’s son, who plan to pursue a wide range of litigation against allies of Donald Trump and others involved in obtaining and disseminating data that they say is or may be the private property of their client.

Besides Bannon, Stone and Giuliani, those who were sent near-identical “litigation hold” letters include John Paul Mac Isaac, the computer repairman who first obtained the laptop when Hunter Biden allegedly left it at his Wilmington, Delaware, shop; lawyer Robert Costello, who has represented both Bannon and Giuliani, ex-Trump aide Garrett M. Ziegler, and former Biden business partner Tony Bobulinski.

BREAKING: John Fetterman rushed to hospital, currently undergoing tests

John Fetterman rushed to hospital, currently undergoing tests

"Initial tests did not show evidence of a new stoke, but doctors are running more tests and John is remaining overnight for observation."

Pennsylvania Democratic Senator John Fetterman was rushed to hospital Wednesday night after "feeling lightheaded."

Fetterman previously suffered a stroke on May 13 2022, days before Pennsylvania's Democratic primary, but still managed to win the race. He is reportedly undergoing tests at the George Washington University Hospital in Washington, DC.

It was later revealed that the near fatal stroke was caused by a heart condition. He was off the campaign trail for months his race against Republican candidate Dr. Mehmet Oz. The month after the stroke, Fetterman released a letter from his cardiologist Dr. Ramesh Chandra that said, "The prognosis I can give for John's heart is this: if he takes his medications, eats healthy, and exercises, he'll be fine. If he does what I've told him, and I do believe he is taking his recovery and his health very seriously at this time, he should be able to campaign and serve in the US Senate without a problem."

During the debate between the two candidates, Fetterman was clearly impaired showing auditory processing issues and unusual speech patterns leftover from the stroke. Following the debate, Democrats and Republicans questioned his fitness to serve.

After the debate, Fetterman continued to show speech and auditory issues. In an interview with CBS, when asked about his fitness for office he said, "I'm sitting within a chair with you right now to have this conversation and really just address the fact that I'm absolutely sit to serve."

According to a spokesperson for the 53-year-old politician, “Towards the end of the Senate Democratic retreat today, Senator John Fetterman began feeling lightheaded. He left and called his staff, who picked him up and drove him to The George Washington University Hospital. Initial tests did not show evidence of a new stoke, but doctors are running more tests and John is remaining overnight for observation. He is in good spirits and talking with his staff and family.”

Earlier this month, it was revealed that because Fetterman is still struggling with auditory processing issues and that he needs the assistance of closed captioning. The Senate Sergeant at Arms reportedly installed a monitor on Fetterman's desk in the US Senate chamber to provided live captioning and a wireless tablet for committee hearings.

This is a breaking story and will be updated.

>Twitter back online in Turkey

Twitter was blocked for at least 12 hours on major Turkish mobile providers in an outage that ended early Thursday, following a flurry of online criticism of the government’s response to this week’s deadly earthquake.

By about 5 am (0200 GMT), the social media site was accessible again.

Online monitor netblocks.org on Wednesday showed Twitter becoming throttled and then completely blocked across all major cell phone providers in the country. The site still worked using VPN services that disguise a user’s location.

The country is still stricken after Monday’s 7.8-magnitude quake, which killed at least 15,000 people there and in neighbouring Syria.

Turkish social media has been filled with posts by people complaining about a lack of search and rescue efforts in their provinces.

Russia Retires the Last of ‘The Hunt for Red October’ Submarines

More than 40 years after it first entered service, Russia has decommissioned the submarine Dmitri Donskoy, and with it a chapter in submarine history has come to a close. Once one of the deadliest—and biggest—weapons known to mankind, Dmitri Donskoy is headed to the scrapyard. The Akula-class submarines, each of which packed the equivalent of 20 million tons of TNT, were the inspiration for the 1984 novel and 1990 film The Hunt for Red October.

How America Took Out The Nord Stream Pipeline

The New York Times called it a “mystery,” but the United States executed a covert sea operation that was kept secret—until now

Seymour Hersh

The U.S. Navy’s Diving and Salvage Center can be found in a location as obscure as its name—down what was once a country lane in rural Panama City, a now-booming resort city in the southwestern panhandle of Florida, 70 miles south of the Alabama border. The center’s complex is as nondescript as its location—a drab concrete post-World War II structure that has the look of a vocational high school on the west side of Chicago. A coin-operated laundromat and a dance school are across what is now a four-lane road.

The center has been training highly skilled deep-water divers for decades who, once assigned to American military units worldwide, are capable of technical diving to do the good—using C4 explosives to clear harbors and beaches of debris and unexploded ordinance—as well as the bad, like blowing up foreign oil rigs, fouling intake valves for undersea power plants, destroying locks on crucial shipping canals. The Panama City center, which boasts the second largest indoor pool in America, was the perfect place to recruit the best, and most taciturn, graduates of the diving school who successfully did last summer what they had been authorized to do 260 feet under the surface of the Baltic Sea.

Last June, the Navy divers, operating under the cover of a widely publicized mid-summer NATO exercise known as BALTOPS 22, planted the remotely triggered explosives that, three months later, destroyed three of the four Nord Stream pipelines, according to a source with direct knowledge of the operational planning.

Two of the pipelines, which were known collectively as Nord Stream 1, had been providing Germany and much of Western Europe with cheap Russian natural gas for more than a decade. A second pair of pipelines, called Nord Stream 2, had been built but were not yet operational. Now, with Russian troops massing on the Ukrainian border and the bloodiest war in Europe since 1945 looming, President Joseph Biden saw the pipelines as a vehicle for Vladimir Putin to weaponize natural gas for his political and territorial ambitions.

Asked for comment, Adrienne Watson, a White House spokesperson, said in an email, “This is false and complete fiction.” Tammy Thorp, a spokesperson for the Central Intelligence Agency, similarly wrote: “This claim is completely and utterly false.”

Biden’s decision to sabotage the pipelines came after more than nine months of highly secret back and forth debate inside Washington’s national security community about how to best achieve that goal. For much of that time, the issue was not whether to do the mission, but how to get it done with no overt clue as to who was responsible.

There was a vital bureaucratic reason for relying on the graduates of the center’s hardcore diving school in Panama City. The divers were Navy only, and not members of America’s Special Operations Command, whose covert operations must be reported to Congress and briefed in advance to the Senate and House leadership—the so-called Gang of Eight. The Biden Administration was doing everything possible to avoid leaks as the planning took place late in 2021 and into the first months of 2022.

President Biden and his foreign policy team—National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, Secretary of State Tony Blinken, and Victoria Nuland, the Undersecretary of State for Policy—had been vocal and consistent in their hostility to the two pipelines, which ran side by side for 750 miles under the Baltic Sea from two different ports in northeastern Russia near the Estonian border, passing close to the Danish island of Bornholm before ending in northern Germany.

The direct route, which bypassed any need to transit Ukraine, had been a boon for the German economy, which enjoyed an abundance of cheap Russian natural gas—enough to run its factories and heat its homes while enabling German distributors to sell excess gas, at a profit, throughout Western Europe. Action that could be traced to the administration would violate US promises to minimize direct conflict with Russia. Secrecy was essential.

From its earliest days, Nord Stream 1 was seen by Washington and its anti-Russian NATO partners as a threat to western dominance. The holding company behind it, Nord Stream AG, was incorporated in Switzerland in 2005 in partnership with Gazprom, a publicly traded Russian company producing enormous profits for shareholders which is dominated by oligarchs known to be in the thrall of Putin. Gazprom controlled 51 percent of the company, with four European energy firms—one in France, one in the Netherlands and two in Germany—sharing the remaining 49 percent of stock, and having the right to control downstream sales of the inexpensive natural gas to local distributors in Germany and Western Europe. Gazprom’s profits were shared with the Russian government, and state gas and oil revenues were estimated in some years to amount to as much as 45 percent of Russia’s annual budget.

America’s political fears were real: Putin would now have an additional and much-needed major source of income, and Germany and the rest of Western Europe would become addicted to low-cost natural gas supplied by Russia—while diminishing European reliance on America. In fact, that’s exactly what happened. Many Germans saw Nord Stream 1 as part of the deliverance of former Chancellor Willy Brandt’s famed Ostpolitik theory, which would enable postwar Germany to rehabilitate itself and other European nations destroyed in World War II by, among other initiatives, utilizing cheap Russian gas to fuel a prosperous Western European market and trading economy.

Nord Stream 1 was dangerous enough, in the view of NATO and Washington, but Nord Stream 2, whose construction was completed in September of 2021, would, if approved by German regulators, double the amount of cheap gas that would be available to Germany and Western Europe. The second pipeline also would provide enough gas for more than 50 percent of Germany’s annual consumption. Tensions were constantly escalating between Russia and NATO, backed by the aggressive foreign policy of the Biden Administration.

Opposition to Nord Stream 2 flared on the eve of the Biden inauguration in January 2021, when Senate Republicans, led by Ted Cruz of Texas, repeatedly raised the political threat of cheap Russian natural gas during the confirmation hearing of Blinken as Secretary of State. By then a unified Senate had successfully passed a law that, as Cruz told Blinken, “halted [the pipeline] in its tracks.” There would be enormous political and economic pressure from the German government, then headed by Angela Merkel, to get the second pipeline online.

Would Biden stand up to the Germans? Blinken said yes, but added that he had not discussed the specifics of the incoming President’s views. “I know his strong conviction that this is a bad idea, the Nord Stream 2,” he said. “I know that he would have us use every persuasive tool that we have to convince our friends and partners, including Germany, not to move forward with it.”

A few months later, as the construction of the second pipeline neared completion, Biden blinked. That May, in a stunning turnaround, the administration waived sanctions against Nord Stream AG, with a State Department official conceding that trying to stop the pipeline through sanctions and diplomacy had “always been a long shot.” Behind the scenes, administration officials reportedly urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, by then facing a threat of Russian invasion, not to criticize the move.

There were immediate consequences. Senate Republicans, led by Cruz, announced an immediate blockade of all of Biden’s foreign policy nominees and delayed passage of the annual defense bill for months, deep into the fall. Politico later depicted Biden’s turnabout on the second Russian pipeline as “the one decision, arguably more than the chaotic military withdrawal from Afghanistan, that has imperiled Biden’s agenda.”

The administration was floundering, despite getting a reprieve on the crisis in mid-November, when Germany’s energy regulators suspended approval of the second Nord Stream pipeline. Natural gas prices surged 8% within days, amid growing fears in Germany and Europe that the pipeline suspension and the growing possibility of a war between Russia and Ukraine would lead to a very much unwanted cold winter. It was not clear to Washington just where Olaf Scholz, Germany’s newly appointed chancellor, stood. Months earlier, after the fall of Afghanistan, Scholtz had publicly endorsed French President Emmanuel Macron’s call for a more autonomous European foreign policy in a speech in Prague—clearly suggesting less reliance on Washington and its mercurial actions.

Throughout all of this, Russian troops had been steadily and ominously building up on the borders of Ukraine, and by the end of December more than 100,000 soldiers were in position to strike from Belarus and Crimea. Alarm was growing in Washington, including an assessment from Blinken that those troop numbers could be “doubled in short order.”

The administration’s attention once again was focused on Nord Stream. As long as Europe remained dependent on the pipelines for cheap natural gas, Washington was afraid that countries like Germany would be reluctant to supply Ukraine with the money and weapons it needed to defeat Russia.

It was at this unsettled moment that Biden authorized Jake Sullivan to bring together an interagency group to come up with a plan.

All options were to be on the table. But only one would emerge.

PLANNING

In December of 2021, two months before the first Russian tanks rolled into Ukraine, Jake Sullivan convened a meeting of a newly formed task force—men and women from the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the CIA, and the State and Treasury Departments—and asked for recommendations about how to respond to Putin’s impending invasion.

It would be the first of a series of top-secret meetings, in a secure room on a top floor of the Old Executive Office Building, adjacent to the White House, that was also the home of the President’s Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board (PFIAB). There was the usual back and forth chatter that eventually led to a crucial preliminary question: Would the recommendation forwarded by the group to the President be reversible—such as another layer of sanctions and currency restrictions—or irreversible—that is, kinetic actions, which could not be undone?

What became clear to participants, according to the source with direct knowledge of the process, is that Sullivan intended for the group to come up with a plan for the destruction of the two Nord Stream pipelines—and that he was delivering on the desires of the President.

THE PLAYERS Left to right: Victoria Nuland, Anthony Blinken, and Jake Sullivan.

Over the next several meetings, the participants debated options for an attack. The Navy proposed using a newly commissioned submarine to assault the pipeline directly. The Air Force discussed dropping bombs with delayed fuses that could be set off remotely. The CIA argued that whatever was done, it would have to be covert. Everyone involved understood the stakes. “This is not kiddie stuff,” the source said. If the attack were traceable to the United States, “It’s an act of war.”

At the time, the CIA was directed by William Burns, a mild-mannered former ambassador to Russia who had served as deputy secretary of state in the Obama Administration. Burns quickly authorized an Agency working group whose ad hoc members included—by chance—someone who was familiar with the capabilities of the Navy’s deep-sea divers in Panama City. Over the next few weeks, members of the CIA’s working group began to craft a plan for a covert operation that would use deep-sea divers to trigger an explosion along the pipeline.

Something like this had been done before. In 1971, the American intelligence community learned from still undisclosed sources that two important units of the Russian Navy were communicating via an undersea cable buried in the Sea of Okhotsk, on Russia’s Far East Coast. The cable linked a regional Navy command to the mainland headquarters at Vladivostok.

A hand-picked team of Central Intelligence Agency and National Security Agency operatives was assembled somewhere in the Washington area, under deep cover, and worked out a plan, using Navy divers, modified submarines and a deep-submarine rescue vehicle, that succeeded, after much trial and error, in locating the Russian cable. The divers planted a sophisticated listening device on the cable that successfully intercepted the Russian traffic and recorded it on a taping system.

The NSA learned that senior Russian navy officers, convinced of the security of their communication link, chatted away with their peers without encryption. The recording device and its tape had to be replaced monthly and the project rolled on merrily for a decade until it was compromised by a forty-four-year-old civilian NSA technician named Ronald Pelton who was fluent in Russian. Pelton was betrayed by a Russian defector in 1985 and sentenced to prison. He was paid just $5,000 by the Russians for his revelations about the operation, along with $35,000 for other Russian operational data he provided that was never made public.

That underwater success, codenamed Ivy Bells, was innovative and risky, and produced invaluable intelligence about the Russian Navy's intentions and planning.

Still, the interagency group was initially skeptical of the CIA’s enthusiasm for a covert deep-sea attack. There were too many unanswered questions. The waters of the Baltic Sea were heavily patrolled by the Russian navy, and there were no oil rigs that could be used as cover for a diving operation. Would the divers have to go to Estonia, right across the border from Russia’s natural gas loading docks, to train for the mission? “It would be a goat fuck,” the Agency was told.

Throughout “all of this scheming,” the source said, “some working guys in the CIA and the State Department were saying, ‘Don’t do this. It’s stupid and will be a political nightmare if it comes out.’”

Nevertheless, in early 2022, the CIA working group reported back to Sullivan’s interagency group: “We have a way to blow up the pipelines.”

What came next was stunning. On February 7, less than three weeks before the seemingly inevitable Russian invasion of Ukraine, Biden met in his White House office with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who, after some wobbling, was now firmly on the American team. At the press briefing that followed, Biden defiantly said, “If Russia invades . . . there will be no longer a Nord Stream 2. We will bring an end to it.”

Twenty days earlier, Undersecretary Nuland had delivered essentially the same message at a State Department briefing, with little press coverage. “I want to be very clear to you today,” she said in response to a question. “If Russia invades Ukraine, one way or another Nord Stream 2 will not move forward.”

Several of those involved in planning the pipeline mission were dismayed by what they viewed as indirect references to the attack.

“It was like putting an atomic bomb on the ground in Tokyo and telling the Japanese that we are going to detonate it,” the source said. “The plan was for the options to be executed post invasion and not advertised publicly. Biden simply didn’t get it or ignored it.”

Biden’s and Nuland’s indiscretion, if that is what it was, might have frustrated some of the planners. But it also created an opportunity. According to the source, some of the senior officials of the CIA determined that blowing up the pipeline “no longer could be considered a covert option because the President just announced that we knew how to do it.”

The plan to blow up Nord Stream 1 and 2 was suddenly downgraded from a covert operation requiring that Congress be informed to one that was deemed as a highly classified intelligence operation with U.S. military support. Under the law, the source explained, “There was no longer a legal requirement to report the operation to Congress. All they had to do now is just do it—but it still had to be secret. The Russians have superlative surveillance of the Baltic Sea.”

The Agency working group members had no direct contact with the White House, and were eager to find out if the President meant what he’d said—that is, if the mission was now a go. The source recalled, “Bill Burns comes back and says, ‘Do it.’”

“The Norwegian navy was quick to find the right spot, in the shallow water a few miles off Denmark’s Bornholm Island . . .”

THE OPERATION

Norway was the perfect place to base the mission.

In the past few years of East-West crisis, the U.S. military has vastly expanded its presence inside Norway, whose western border runs 1,400 miles along the north Atlantic Ocean and merges above the Arctic Circle with Russia. The Pentagon has created high paying jobs and contracts, amid some local controversy, by investing hundreds of millions of dollars to upgrade and expand American Navy and Air Force facilities in Norway. The new works included, most importantly, an advanced synthetic aperture radar far up north that was capable of penetrating deep into Russia and came online just as the American intelligence community lost access to a series of long-range listening sites inside China.

A newly refurbished American submarine base, which had been under construction for years, had become operational and more American submarines were now able to work closely with their Norwegian colleagues to monitor and spy on a major Russian nuclear redoubt 250 miles to the east, on the Kola Peninsula. America also has vastly expanded a Norwegian air base in the north and delivered to the Norwegian air force a fleet of Boeing-built P8 Poseidon patrol planes to bolster its long-range spying on all things Russia.

In return, the Norwegian government angered liberals and some moderates in its parliament last November by passing the Supplementary Defense Cooperation Agreement (SDCA). Under the new deal, the U.S. legal system would have jurisdiction in certain “agreed areas” in the North over American soldiers accused of crimes off base, as well as over those Norwegian citizens accused or suspected of interfering with the work at the base.

Norway was one of the original signatories of the NATO Treaty in 1949, in the early days of the Cold War. Today, the supreme commander of NATO is Jens Stoltenberg, a committed anti-communist, who served as Norway’s prime minister for eight years before moving to his high NATO post, with American backing, in 2014. He was a hardliner on all things Putin and Russia who had cooperated with the American intelligence community since the Vietnam War. He has been trusted completely since. “He is the glove that fits the American hand,” the source said.

Back in Washington, planners knew they had to go to Norway. “They hated the Russians, and the Norwegian navy was full of superb sailors and divers who had generations of experience in highly profitable deep-sea oil and gas exploration,” the source said. They also could be trusted to keep the mission secret. (The Norwegians may have had other interests as well. The destruction of Nord Stream—if the Americans could pull it off—would allow Norway to sell vastly more of its own natural gas to Europe.)

Sometime in March, a few members of the team flew to Norway to meet with the Norwegian Secret Service and Navy. One of the key questions was where exactly in the Baltic Sea was the best place to plant the explosives. Nord Stream 1 and 2, each with two sets of pipelines, were separated much of the way by little more than a mile as they made their run to the port of Greifswald in the far northeast of Germany.

The Norwegian navy was quick to find the right spot, in the shallow waters of the Baltic sea a few miles off Denmark’s Bornholm Island. The pipelines ran more than a mile apart along a seafloor that was only 260 feet deep. That would be well within the range of the divers, who, operating from a Norwegian Alta class mine hunter, would dive with a mixture of oxygen, nitrogen and helium streaming from their tanks, and plant shaped C4 charges on the four pipelines with concrete protective covers. It would be tedious, time consuming and dangerous work, but the waters off Bornholm had another advantage: there were no major tidal currents, which would have made the task of diving much more difficult.

After a bit of research, the Americans were all in.

At this point, the Navy’s obscure deep-diving group in Panama City once again came into play. The deep-sea schools at Panama City, whose trainees participated in Ivy Bells, are seen as an unwanted backwater by the elite graduates of the Naval Academy in Annapolis, who typically seek the glory of being assigned as a Seal, fighter pilot, or submariner. If one must become a “Black Shoe”—that is, a member of the less desirable surface ship command—there is always at least duty on a destroyer, cruiser or amphibious ship. The least glamorous of all is mine warfare. Its divers never appear in Hollywood movies, or on the cover of popular magazines.

“The best divers with deep diving qualifications are a tight community, and only the very best are recruited for the operation and told to be prepared to be summoned to the CIA in Washington,” the source said.

The Norwegians and Americans had a location and the operatives, but there was another concern: any unusual underwater activity in the waters off Bornholm might draw the attention of the Swedish or Danish navies, which could report it.

Denmark had also been one of the original NATO signatories and was known in the intelligence community for its special ties to the United Kingdom. Sweden had applied for membership into NATO, and had demonstrated its great skill in managing its underwater sound and magnetic sensor systems that successfully tracked Russian submarines that would occasionally show up in remote waters of the Swedish archipelago and be forced to the surface.

The Norwegians joined the Americans in insisting that some senior officials in Denmark and Sweden had to be briefed in general terms about possible diving activity in the area. In that way, someone higher up could intervene and keep a report out of the chain of command, thus insulating the pipeline operation. “What they were told and what they knew were purposely different,” the source told me. (The Norwegian embassy, asked to comment on this story, did not respond.)

The Norwegians were key to solving other hurdles. The Russian navy was known to possess surveillance technology capable of spotting, and triggering, underwater mines. The American explosive devices needed to be camouflaged in a way that would make them appear to the Russian system as part of the natural background—something that required adapting to the specific salinity of the water. The Norwegians had a fix.

The Norwegians also had a solution to the crucial question of when the operation should take place. Every June, for the past 21 years, the American Sixth Fleet, whose flagship is based in Gaeta, Italy, south of Rome, has sponsored a major NATO exercise in the Baltic Sea involving scores of allied ships throughout the region. The current exercise, held in June, would be known as Baltic Operations 22, or BALTOPS 22. The Norwegians proposed this would be the ideal cover to plant the mines.

The Americans provided one vital element: they convinced the Sixth Fleet planners to add a research and development exercise to the program. The exercise, as made public by the Navy, involved the Sixth Fleet in collaboration with the Navy’s “research and warfare centers.” The at-sea event would be held off the coast of Bornholm Island and involve NATO teams of divers planting mines, with competing teams using the latest underwater technology to find and destroy them.

It was both a useful exercise and ingenious cover. The Panama City boys would do their thing and the C4 explosives would be in place by the end of BALTOPS22, with a 48-hour timer attached. All of the Americans and Norwegians would be long gone by the first explosion.

The days were counting down. “The clock was ticking, and we were nearing mission accomplished,” the source said.

And then: Washington had second thoughts. The bombs would still be planted during BALTOPS, but the White House worried that a two-day window for their detonation would be too close to the end of the exercise, and it would be obvious that America had been involved.

>>18312482

Instead, the White House had a new request: “Can the guys in the field come up with some way to blow the pipelines later on command?”

Some members of the planning team were angered and frustrated by the President’s seeming indecision. The Panama City divers had repeatedly practiced planting the C4 on pipelines, as they would during BALTOPS, but now the team in Norway had to come up with a way to give Biden what he wanted—the ability to issue a successful execution order at a time of his choosing.

Being tasked with an arbitrary, last-minute change was something the CIA was accustomed to managing. But it also renewed the concerns some shared over the necessity, and legality, of the entire operation.

The President’s secret orders also evoked the CIA’s dilemma in the Vietnam War days, when President Johnson, confronted by growing anti-Vietnam War sentiment, ordered the Agency to violate its charter—which specifically barred it from operating inside America—by spying on antiwar leaders to determine whether they were being controlled by Communist Russia.

The agency ultimately acquiesced, and throughout the 1970s it became clear just how far it had been willing to go. There were subsequent newspaper revelations in the aftermath of the Watergate scandals about the Agency’s spying on American citizens, its involvement in the assassination of foreign leaders and its undermining of the socialist government of Salvador Allende.

Those revelations led to a dramatic series of hearings in the mid-1970s in the Senate, led by Frank Church of Idaho, that made it clear that Richard Helms, the Agency director at the time, accepted that he had an obligation to do what the President wanted, even if it meant violating the law.

In unpublished, closed-door testimony, Helms ruefully explained that “you almost have an Immaculate Conception when you do something” under secret orders from a President. “Whether it’s right that you should have it, or wrong that you shall have it, [the CIA] works under different rules and ground rules than any other part of the government.” He was essentially telling the Senators that he, as head of the CIA, understood that he had been working for the Crown, and not the Constitution.

The Americans at work in Norway operated under the same dynamic, and dutifully began working on the new problem—how to remotely detonate the C4 explosives on Biden’s order. It was a much more demanding assignment than those in Washington understood. There was no way for the team in Norway to know when the President might push the button. Would it be in a few weeks, in many months or in half a year or longer?

The C4 attached to the pipelines would be triggered by a sonar buoy dropped by a plane on short notice, but the procedure involved the most advanced signal processing technology. Once in place, the delayed timing devices attached to any of the four pipelines could be accidentally triggered by the complex mix of ocean background noises throughout the heavily trafficked Baltic Sea—from near and distant ships, underwater drilling, seismic events, waves and even sea creatures. To avoid this, the sonar buoy, once in place, would emit a sequence of unique low frequency tonal sounds—much like those emitted by a flute or a piano—that would be recognized by the timing device and, after a pre-set hours of delay, trigger the explosives. (“You want a signal that is robust enough so that no other signal could accidentally send a pulse that detonated the explosives,” I was told by Dr. Theodore Postol, professor emeritus of science, technology and national security policy at MIT. Postol, who has served as the science adviser to the Pentagon’s Chief of Naval Operations, said the issue facing the group in Norway because of Biden’s delay was one of chance: “The longer the explosives are in the water the greater risk there would be of a random signal that would launch the bombs.”)

On September 26, 2022, a Norwegian Navy P8 surveillance plane made a seemingly routine flight and dropped a sonar buoy. The signal spread underwater, initially to Nord Stream 2 and then on to Nord Stream 1. A few hours later, the high-powered C4 explosives were triggered and three of the four pipelines were put out of commission. Within a few minutes, pools of methane gas that remained in the shuttered pipelines could be seen spreading on the water’s surface and the world learned that something irreversible had taken place.

FALLOUT

In the immediate aftermath of the pipeline bombing, the American media treated it like an unsolved mystery. Russia was repeatedly cited as a likely culprit, spurred on by calculated leaks from the White House—but without ever establishing a clear motive for such an act of self-sabotage, beyond simple retribution. A few months later, when it emerged that Russian authorities had been quietly getting estimates for the cost to repair the pipelines, the New York Times described the news as “complicating theories about who was behind” the attack. No major American newspaper dug into the earlier threats to the pipelines made by Biden and Undersecretary of State Nuland.

While it was never clear why Russia would seek to destroy its own lucrative pipeline, a more telling rationale for the President’s action came from Secretary of State Blinken.

Asked at a press conference last September about the consequences of the worsening energy crisis in Western Europe, Blinken described the moment as a potentially good one:

“It’s a tremendous opportunity to once and for all remove the dependence on Russian energy and thus to take away from Vladimir Putin the weaponization of energy as a means of advancing his imperial designs. That’s very significant and that offers tremendous strategic opportunity for the years to come, but meanwhile we’re determined to do everything we possibly can to make sure the consequences of all of this are not borne by citizens in our countries or, for that matter, around the world.”

More recently, Victoria Nuland expressed satisfaction at the demise of the newest of the pipelines. Testifying at a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing in late January she told Senator Ted Cruz, “Like you, I am, and I think the Administration is, very gratified to know that Nord Stream 2 is now, as you like to say, a hunk of metal at the bottom of the sea.”

The source had a much more streetwise view of Biden’s decision to sabotage more than 1500 miles of Gazprom pipeline as winter approached. “Well,” he said, speaking of the President, “I gotta admit the guy has a pair of balls. He said he was going to do it, and he did.”

Asked why he thought the Russians failed to respond, he said cynically, “Maybe they want the capability to do the same things the U.S. did.

“It was a beautiful cover story,” he went on. “Behind it was a covert operation that placed experts in the field and equipment that operated on a covert signal.

“The only flaw was the decision to do it.”

At a time when the rate of attacks on Catholic churches is increasing–a study found 278 such attacks since 2020 alone–the FBI has decided now is the time to label traditional Catholics as purveyors of anti-Semitism and white supremacy. A so-called “intelligence analyst” at the Richmond Field Office authored a recently-released report that warns the nation apparently faces a serious threat from Catholics who prefer the Latin Mass. The analyst also coined two fancy new acronyms: Racially or Ethnically Motivated Violent Extremists (RMVEs) and Radical-Traditionalist Catholics (RTCs).

The report is long on accusations and short on actual evidence that there’s an existential threat from Catholics, who prefer monks chanting to nuns playing folk songs on tambourines. RTCs seem to really rankle the author:

RTCs are “typically characterized by the rejection of the Second Vatican Council.” The writer makes an unsubstantiated leap that a preference for the Catholic Mass in Latin instead of the vernacular and a number of more traditional views on other world religions can amount to an “adherence to anti-Semitic, anti-immigrant, anti-LGBTQ and white supremacist ideology.”

God could be referred to in ‘non-gendered’ terms during Church of England services for the first time, it can be revealed. Breaking with centuries of tradition, bishops have announced they are launching a major ‘project on gendered language’ this spring.

It may suggest that priests can stop using the male pronouns ‘He’ and ‘Him’ when referring to God in some prayers, or even that they can drop the famous phrase ‘our Father’ from the start of the Lord’s Prayer.

However, such a radical rewriting would have to be agreed by the whole of the church’s governing body, the General Synod, and would be fiercely resisted by traditionalists for breaking away from the words of the Bible.

The landmark move has been revealed today in a question presented to the committee that develops the wording used in church services, called the Liturgical Commission.

The Rev Joanna Stobart, a vicar in the diocese of Guildford, Surrey, said that some clergy want to refer to God without saying He or Him, particularly in prayers of forgiveness for sins.

She asked: ‘Please could the Liturgical Commission provide an update on the steps being taken to develop more inclusive language in our authorized liturgy and to provide more options for those who wish to use authorized liturgy and speak of God in a non-gendered way, particularly in authorized absolutions where many of the prayers offered for use refer to God using male pronouns?’

In response, the Bishop of Lichfield, the Rt Rev Michael Ipgrave, said: ‘We have been exploring the use of gendered language in relation to God for several years, in collaboration with the Faith and Order Commission.

‘After some dialogue between the two Commissions in this area, a new joint project on gendered language will begin this spring.

‘In common with other potential changes to authorized liturgical provision, changing the wording and number of authorized forms of absolution would require a full Synodical process for approval.’ The proposal was welcomed by a group that campaigns for ‘gender justice’ in the Church of England.

Women and the Church (WATCH) said: ‘WATCH welcomes the start of another project in the Church of England to look at the development of more inclusive language in our authorized liturgy.

‘We hope that a proposal will be brought to Synod soon, as we believe that a theological misreading of God as exclusively male is a driver of much-continuing discrimination and sexism against women.’

There once was a LARPING faggot named Q, A few useless clues the riddlenigger did spew.

A one year delta turned into two, three, and then four, Anons can wait forever so let's wait seventeen more.

The grand plan of 8kun and open-source design, Is just a place to shitpost in your spare time.

Promises of big name arrests had repeatedly been made, But future disproved past and they were never repaid.

Urine smell Hill was sposed to be caught in October by the team, But all we got for XMAS was a shitty Santa meme.

Skippy the pedo-fish was another promised indictment, But he's still Scott Free and tortures minors for excitement.

We got strung along by Q's promise of hope, For nothing to habben so now we just cope.

The Great awakening fell flat on it's face, To your friends and family an outcast and disgrace.

A natural death is the only justice so far, Maybe Q could hang one traitor and try to raise the Barr?

Did you really believe the elites would be put in a cage? Trump pointed his finger "you'd be in jail" - but it was just for the stage!

Whether you know it or not Donny is related to boiled cabbage Hill, You claim to be awake but swallowed the blue pill.

Fauci made a new strain in the lab just for fun, To use on the public when Q's job was done.

A few million people had to die just for "optics", While Trump played golf with his friends in the tropics.

But don't worry frens Q said "this is war", While globalists rape our country like an old dirty whore.

Make no mistake we all think Q's plan is just fab, So we wait in line like sheep just for the DNA jab.

Don sat on the fence while he gave more to Israel, Ever wonder why his cabinet and team leads were so miserable?

Trump sent more $ to (((them))) then in all of past history, Are his zionist frens really a mystery?

He signed an EO to protect his tribe from a slur, Undone in a year by Joe his victories were a blur.

You thought Donny would deliver us to the land of milk and honey? The country burns while his face shines on zionist money.

Grabbing women by the pussy is his common behavior, Do you really think Trump is humanity's savior?

A cognitive dissonance when faced with this proof, Cry all you like every word is the truth.

Look back on the years of defeat and dismay, You really think the military will come save the day?

If all preceeding words are just a lyrical crime, Why can't one of you come up with an insightful retort after all of this time?

At the truth you seethe and have nothing to attack but the spacing of Reddit, If you conjured a stronger deflection I could give you some credit.

Facing the truth the brainwashed might try and cast me a hex, But the best you can come up with is the boardwalk girl "You wrote so much text."

Sucked in until the end my words make your feels bleed, Your final act of defeat and proof you read all will be TL;DR - "Too long didn't read."

With this ballad of truth you might call me a shill, But only the learned chose the red pill.

For thousands of years they've won at this game, Red vs. blue it's always the same.

History repeats itself all through the ages, Those who can see are the wisest of sages.

>>18312359 Fetterman Hospitalized

Sen. John Fetterman was hospitalized Wednesday night after feeling lightheaded at the end of a Senate Democratic retreat, his office said.

The symptoms do not appear to be the result of a new stroke, one of which Fetterman suffered in May 2022 just days before winning Pennsylvania’s Senate Democratic primary.

Fetterman is “in good spirits and talking with his staff and family,” at the hospital, where he will remain overnight while doctors undergo further testing, his communications director, Joe Calvello, said in a Wednesday night statement.

Senator John Fetterman is rushed to hospital after 'feeling lightheaded' - doctors say initial tests did not show evidence of another stroke

The Pennsylvania politician, 53, started feeling ill while on a Senate retreat

He was taken to George Washington University Hospital on Wednesday night

Fetterman, who has previously suffered a stroke, is undergoing tests in hospital

THE CAUSES OF STROKE

There are two major kinds of stroke:

  1. ISCHEMIC STROKE

An ischemic stroke - which accounts for 80 per cent of strokes - occurs when there is a blockage in a blood vessel that prevents blood from reaching part of the brain.

  1. HEMORRHAGIC STROKE

The more rare, a hemorrhagic stroke, occurs when a blood vessel bursts, flooding part of the brain with too much blood while depriving other areas of adequate blood supply.

It can be the result of an AVM, or arteriovenous malformation (an abnormal cluster of blood vessels), in the brain.

Thirty percent of subarachnoid hemorrhage sufferers die before reaching the hospital. A further 25 per cent die within 24 hours. And 40 per cent of survivors die within a week.

RISK FACTORS

Age, high blood pressure, smoking, obesity, sedentary lifestyle, diabetes, atrial fibrillation, family history, and history of a previous stroke or TIA (a mini stroke) are all risk factors for having a stroke.

SYMPTOMS OF A STROKE

Sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the body

Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding

Sudden trouble seeing or blurred vision in one or both eyes

Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination

Sudden severe headache with no known cause

OUTCOMES

Of the roughly three out of four people who survive a stroke, many will have life-long disabilities.

This includes difficulty walking, communicating, eating, and completing everyday tasks or chores.

TREATMENT

Both are potentially fatal, and patients require surgery or a drug called tPA (tissue plasminogen activator) within three hours to save them.

Joe Biden's Earliest Days in the Senate as Revealed in a 1974 Interview: Crass and Venal, Using His Office for Monetary Gain

https://redstate.com/shipwreckedcrew/2020/10/21/joe-bidens-earliest-days-in-the-senate-revealed-him-to-be-crass-and-venal-regularly-using-his-office-for-monetary-gain-n266979

The Senator shows a healthy respect for money: “Politics is a damn expensive business. I had one hell of a time trying to raise money as a candidate. I had to put a second mortgage on my house to get that campaign started, and I ended up spending over $300,000 to get elected….

He feels the indignity is compounded by the temptation to sell out to big business or big labor for financial help, and says it’s almost impossible for a candidate to remain true to his conscience in this situation. He admits that more than once he was tempted to compromise to get campaign money. “I probably would have if it hadn’t been for the ramrod character of my Scotch Presbyterian wife,” he say’s. “I am not a rich man. And my family does not have money. If I sold every thing I own, including my house and cars, I could probably’ scratch up S200,000, but that’s nothing compared to most of the guys in the Senate.”

Unlike most other senators, Biden makes no bones about saving he is underpaid. ….“I dont know about the rest of you but I am worth a lot more than my salary of $42,500 a year in this body. It seems to me that we should flat out tell the American people we are worth our salt.”

The Ultimate Trial Balloon

https://www.takimag.com/article/the-ultimate-trial-balloon/

So, balloons and the art of ballooning have had an interesting and colorful history.

But nothing, really nothing, in the annals of this craft can compare with what occurred last week.

And it must be remembered that Austin and Milley are the same “military experts” who engineered the withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021 to the everlasting shame of the United States. Their refusal to resign for that debacle showed a breathtaking arrogance and callous approach to command. In “the old days” a revolver would have been placed on their nightstands allowing them to “do the right thing.”

https://www.conservativewoman.co.uk/state-v-family-who-decides-whats-best-for-your-child/

State v family – who decides what’s best for your child?

TODAY, this article may not be about you and your family, but you never know what is around the corner. The story below should act as a warning to anyone who might lose their mental capacity via injury, dementia or any other affliction. And if you currently care for someone who lives with compromised mental capacity, it is also worth taking note.

This is a tale about our courts, wearing the boots of government, marching into your home to force medical treatment, whether long established or experimental, on members of family members ‘for their safety’. It is about civil liberty being dismantled on the altar of Covid. It is about the creation of a court standing outside the constitutional protection for the UK citizens of common law.

These are not the wild predictions of a dystopian future, but what is happening in the UK now.

Let me introduce you to Tom (not his real name, and his mother cannot speak openly herself, due to an anonymity order imposed by the court.)

At 22, Tom is physically an adult. However, he is mentally a child, with the capacity of an 18-month-old. He cannot make decisions for himself. Tom lives with his mother, who has cared devotedly for him since he was born with an abnormality of the 13th chromosome, a condition known as Partial Trisomy 13 or ‘T13’. He lives a happy life and mum is rewarded with his love.

So effective is her care that assistance from the state is minimal. Overlooked by GP and social services, no one saw the need to visit or to list Tom for priority assistance during lockdowns in response to Covid. Nevertheless, later the head doctor at the local GP surgery (who has never met Tom) decided that Tom needed to be vaccinated and that the health concerns expressed by his mother were irrelevant. This led to Tom’s vaccination status being reported to the local authority which applied to the court for an order that he be given the Covid-19 vaccine.

To be clear, this is a case in which there is no need for the court to step in to prevent neglect or cruelty. Only in such a situation is there need in common law and statute for the court to intervene. Here it is quite the opposite. Ordinarily, Tom’s circumstances fit the expectation of the public and of the courts that parents are best placed to consider what is in the best interests of their children.

You, like me, may be of the view that the court has no place interfering with this family unit. The court process is complicated and exhausting for any parent, and legal representation is costly. In the large majority of cases, the court overrules the parents’ wishes, which can feel brutal.

However, interfere they do. As is usual in cases like these, Tom’s case has been dealt with in the Court of Protection which ostensibly provides additional protection to vulnerable children and adults.

During Tom’s case lawyers for the local authority zealously asserted the life-saving effect of the Covid-19 vaccines and negligible risks. His mother, however, had read widely to inform herself about the benefits and risks of mRNA injections. She believed, as large numbers of doctors have written and in line with decades of understanding in immunology textbooks, that Tom’s prior Covid infection indicated both the presence of a high degree of immunity and that the risk of him suffering a severe reaction to future variants would be next to nil. Importantly, her views were acknowledged to be reasonable. So far so good.

However, there is now an insidious change to the legal landscape. The courts are interpreting the Mental Capacity Act 2005 to intend that families should have no responsibility or rights to determine the best interests for the health of their children once they reach age 18, even if in all other respects they necessarily remain a child. The reasoning given is that when anyone reaches age 18, they become an adult even if they do not have full mental capacity. Furthermore, in the interests of equality and ensuring their dignity, they are to be afforded the same rights as any healthy adult; accordingly, they are to be afforded the power of autonomous decision-making. It matters not that they will never be able to make decisions for themselves. What matters is that Tom is accorded the status of being something he is not – an adult with mental capacity. To achieve that fictitious status, power to decide what is in Tom’s best interests is taken from the family and given to the court.

To make its decision, the court imagined what the fictitious Tom, a Tom with mental capacity, would decide for himself. The process is intended to give Tom a voice in the proceedings by ‘substitutive judgment’.

In practice, it means the court gives itself almost free rein to imagine reasons for Tom to want exactly the medical treatment (or non-treatment) the court would think best.

In Tom’s case, it was declared that he would wish to carry out the ‘altruistic’ act of having the Covid vaccine. It was imagined that Tom would, as a responsible adult, want to ensure his welfare and reduce burden on the NHS for the good of others and that this altruism would override any consideration that he might have for mother’s wishes.

No evidence was offered by which to project such altruism on to Tom. It is disregarded that such altruistic motive is contrary to the principle of medical ethics which dictates that treatment for an individual may not be justified as for the good of the community.

The court went on to reason that if Tom does not physically resist the injection, this will be evidence that he wants to receive it. Conversely, if he resists, it will be evidence that he does not. It is difficult to comprehend how Tom’s reaction to a syringe would indicate his understanding of its contents.

As for the likelihood of a Tom with capacity heeding his mother’s concerns, that is taken into consideration but there is no evidence or measurement as to how this is done. The outcome is that in attempt to ‘give the vulnerable a voice’ the court silences the mother and adopts the loudest voice itself. But it’s worse than that, because the court’s voice has become that of the State.

As is usual, the court considered the medical opinions of the treating doctors. Despite finding the doctors could not answer many of the questions put to them and that their opinions were based not on expertise regarding the mRNA treatment but were, fundamentally, grounded on following Chapter 14A of the Green Book, the NHS guidance published by UKHSA (a body under control of the Secretary of State for Health and Social Security), the court nevertheless proceeded to order injection. By this short step, unchallengeable state guidance becomes enforceable law.

The net lesson from Tom’s case, is this: the courts are treating state-sponsored guidance as sufficient reason to order medical intervention, will do so without further evidence of need, and will do so against the wishes of the family.

I will record here that the court’s opinion has been expressed in strong terms.

Further and somewhat unusually, rather than leaving parties to return to court should a subsequent issue over enforcement of its orders arise, the judge later contacted the parties and Court of Appeal to inquire why Tom had not been already vaccinated.

At time of writing, the Court of Appeal has refused to consider Tom’s case on the basis that it has no jurisdiction to do so. Given that the appeal complained that the Court of Protection had breached principles of common law and unlawfully interfered with the rights and responsibilities of the family, worrying and constitutionally important implications arise.

Is it right and is it permissible that the Court of Protection, a court created by Act of Parliament and whose rules could be changed at whim of this or any future Parliament, should be able to act breach common law without scrutiny?

In any event, are our vulnerable children really to be viewed as no longer part of the family, expelled from its protection, at an arbitrary date determined by their 18th birthday? What is the meaning of ‘family’? What power, if any, does the state have to decide? Is the Englishman’s home no longer a castle for his family?

These developments are occurring while debate of the Covid-19 injections is silenced in the media. But this debate is far wider than Covid and it is vital that the issues are discussed widely and in public.

Article 23 of the United Nations International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights of 1966 reads: ‘The family is the natural and fundamental group unit of society and is entitled to protection by society and the State.’

In a 2016 case, the UK Supreme Court recognised that: ‘There is an inextricable link between the protection of the family and the protection of fundamental freedoms in liberal democracies.’

Has fear of Covid made us forget what is most important?

The Court of Protection had appointed an Accredited Legal Representative (ALR) independently to represent Tom in the proceedings. Unfortunately, the ALR had not thought to contact a medical expert on the effect of the vaccine on Trisomy individuals. A specialist in Trisomy-13 has now provided a statement to the effect that the mRNA treatments pose particular and greater risk to individuals with that condition than would Covid infection.

The arrival of new evidence is a common legal situation and Tom’s mother is considering presenting this evidence directly to the High Court. Here, if necessary, route to the Court of Appeal would not be blocked for lack of jurisdiction. Whatever happens, there will be considerable legal costs to be incurred.

Tom’s mother has a crowdfunding page where anyone who is able to support her and Tom, and to protect the family unit against intrusion of the state, can make whatever donation they can afford.

That's why they come here, fuck up, never learn, punch the time clock.

They think they are Upper class shit and we are "deplorables;"

NEW 🚨 Australia to remove Chinese-made cameras from defence sites

Australia’s defence department will strip its buildings of Chinese-made security cameras to ensure they are “completely secure”, the government said on Thursday.

It follows similar moves in the United States and Britain, which have taken measures to stop government departments installing Chinese-made cameras at sensitive sites.

Both countries have expressed fears that Chinese companies could be forced to share intelligence collected by the cameras with Beijing’s security services.

Beijing accused Australia of “misusing national might to discriminate against and suppress Chinese enterprises”, calling on Canberra to ensure “fair” treatment for its businesses in the country.

At least 913 Chinese-made cameras have been installed across more than 250 Australian government buildings, according to official figures compiled by opposition politician James Paterson.

This includes offices and facilities belonging to the departments of defence, foreign affairs and finance, as well as the attorney-general’s department.

Australian Defence Minister Richard Marles said officials would hunt down and remove all Chinese-made security cameras within the department’s buildings.

“It’s a significant thing that’s been brought to our attention and we’re going to fix it,” he told national broadcaster ABC.

“It’s important that we go through this exercise and make sure that our facilities are completely secure.”

The government-funded national War Memorial — a sprawling 14-hectare (35 acres) complex in Canberra — also confirmed it would remove a small number of Chinese-made cameras, out of an “abundance of caution”.

Other government agencies declined to comment, or referred back to Marles’ statements.

Paterson, a vocal critic of the Chinese government, had said ''Australian government buildings were “riddled” with “spyware”, and that every Chinese-made camera should be urgently ripped out.''

‘Unacceptable risk’

The cameras were made by companies Hikvision and Dahua, which have been blacklisted in the United States for allegedly helping the Chinese government carry out a “campaign of repression”.

''According to the US Department of Commerce, Hikvision and Dahua have been implicated in the “high-technology surveillance” of the Uyghur minority in the Xinjiang region.''

The US banned the import of surveillance equipment made by the two companies in November last year, saying it posed “an unacceptable risk to national security”.

In Britain, a group of 67 MPs and lords called for the government to ban Hikvision and Dahua in July last year, following reports their equipment had been used to track Uyghurs.

It was a Hikvision CCTV camera that caught former health secretary Matt Hancock kissing an aide in violation of Covid rules in June 2021, leading to his resignation.

Hikvision said it was “categorically false” to paint the company as “a threat to national security”.

“No respected technical institution or assessment has come to this conclusion,” the company told AFP in a statement.

“Our products are compliant with all applicable Australian laws and regulations and are subject to strict security requirements.”

“We hope Australia will provide a fair, just and non-discriminatory environment for the normal operations of Chinese enterprises,” China’s foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said.

“We oppose any wrong action of stretching the concept of national security and misusing national might to discriminate against and suppress Chinese enterprises.”

Australia in 2018 was one of the first countries in the world to block Chinese telco Huawei from its 5G cellphone network.

Former prime minister Malcolm Turnbull, who made the decision, said it would help Australia “defend our own sovereignty”.

Similar Huawei bans are now in place in the US, Britain and Canada — which along with New Zealand and Australia form the Five Eyes spying alliance.

Australia’s centre-left government has been trying to repair the country’s relationship with China since coming to power in May last year.

China slapped hefty tariffs on key Australian exports in 2020, at the height of a bitter dispute with the former conservative government.

For the liberals out there, this is quite literally the definition of Fascism.

And the “shared threats” ended up being the American People.

Today in 1870, President Ulysses S. Grant signed a joint declaration of congress establishing a mission to “provide for taking meteorological observations at the military stations in the interior of the continent and at other points in the States and Territories…and for giving notice on the northern (Great) Lakes and on the seacoast by magnetic telegraph and marine signals, of the approach and force of storms.” Originally under the Secretary of War, this federal agency would evolve to become the National Weather Service.

Another NJ councilmember shot dead just a week after slaying of Eunice Dwumfour

Story by Lee Brown • 44m ago

ANew Jersey council member was shot dead in his car Wednesday, exactly a week after the unsolved slaying of Councilwoman Eunice Dwumfour.

Russell Heller, 51, was found dead just after 7 a.m. in the Somerset parking lot of PSE&G, the local energy company where the Milford Republican worked.

Cops quickly IDed a former employee, Gary Curtis, 58, as a suspect — and found him dead in his car from a suspected self-inflicted gunshot around three-and-a-half hours after the slaying.

The councilman’s murder came exactly a week after Sayreville Councilwoman Dwumfour — also a Republican — was gunned down in her SUV outside her home about 15 miles away. Her murder remains unsolved.

Authorities have not linked the crimes, and the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office insisted that Heller’s murder appeared to be “an isolated incident.”

Suspect Gary Curtis, 58, a former colleague of Heller’s at PSE&G, was later found dead in his car.Somerset County Prosecutor's Office

“The investigation remains ongoing to determine motive,” the prosecutor’s office said, while stressing that “Heller was the intended target.”

Gov. Phil Murphy sent “thoughts and prayers” to Heller’s “family and friends in the wake of this tragic act of gun violence.”

Rep. Tom Kean said he was “shocked and saddened by the tragic murder” of his fellow Republican.

“Russell was an outstanding public servant who proudly represented the river town he loved, Kean tweeted.

Both slain council members were elected Republicans. Heller was last elected in 2020, Dwumfour to her first term in 2021.
