Senate Republicans Demand Biden Forfeit Info Over His Attempt To Federally Interfere In U.S. Elections

Senate Republicans are demanding President Joe Biden hand over documents related to his March 2021 executive order directing federal agencies to interfere in state and local elections.

On Wednesday, 13 Senate Republicans sent a letter to Biden requesting his administration forfeit documents related to Executive Order 14019, which required hundreds of federal agencies to interfere in the electoral process by using taxpayer money to boost voter registration and get-out-the-vote activities. As The Federalist previously reported, voter registration efforts are almost always a partisan venture and often involve left-wing groups that abuse their nonprofit status to target likely-Democrat voters.

“First, while we all agree that increased voter participation is a good thing, the job of federal agencies is to perform their defined missions in a nonpartisan way, not use their taxpayer funds for clandestine voter mobilization and election-turnout operations,” the senators wrote. “Second, it seems doubtful that Congress approved all federal agencies to use appropriated funds for the purpose of voter mobilization.”

Under Executive Order 14019, the heads of each agency were required to draft “a strategic plan” explaining how his or her department intends to fulfill Biden’s directive. Despite attempts by good government groups to acquire these plans, the Biden administration has routinely stonewalled such efforts by slow-walking its response to federal court orders and heavily redacting any related documents it has released.

In their letter, Senate Republicans are demanding the White House provide them with copies of these strategic plans, as well as a “full accounting of all federal funding used to-date” to comply with the order, by May 23.

“Therefore, reviewing the agency plans is critical to understanding the degree to which implementation of this order has resulted in improper uses of federal resources,” the senators wrote.

Signatories of the letter include Republican Sens. Bill Hagerty of Tennessee, Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, Deb Fischer of Nebraska, Ted Budd of North Carolina, Rick Scott of Florida, Mike Braun of Indiana, Mike Lee of Utah, Cindy Hyde-Smith and Roger Wicker of Mississippi, Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia, James Lankford of Oklahoma, Ted Cruz of Texas, Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, and Katie Britt of Alabama.

Most recently, Budd, along with New York GOP Rep. Claudia Tenney, introduced the Promoting Free and Fair Elections Act, which, in addition to requiring federal agencies to disclose their strategic plans to Congress, would prohibit federal agencies from using federal funds to “solicit or enter into an agreement with a nongovernmental organization to conduct voter registration or voter mobilization activities.”

The bill would furthermore amend the Higher Education Act of 1965 to bar public universities from using taxpayer-funded Federal Work Study programs to pay college students to engage in voter registration campaigns. In April 2022, the Biden administration told colleges they could use work-study funds to partake in such activities. Having taxpayers fund get-out-the-vote efforts in this way had previously not been allowed.

Top Signer of Hunter Biden Laptop Letter Makes D.C. Magazine’s ‘Most Influential People’ List

Former CIA Acting Director Michael Morell is one of the D.C. area’s top 500 “most influential people” this year, according to an annual list published by the Washingtonian.

Morell, who coauthored the infamous statement 51 former intelligence officials signed undermining the Hunter Biden laptop story in 2020, received the magazine’s honor for his work on the subject of Ukraine.

Morell “rallied political support for continued US military assistance to Ukraine as skepticism began to fester among right-wing voices and some progressives,” the Washingtonian stated on the list, which was published at the end of April.

Morell, who now works at an advisory firm, led the creation of the statement in October 2020 that suggested the New York Post’s bombshell story about the Biden family was the result of Russian election interference.

Emails and testimony published in a recent joint committee report, written by the House Judiciary Committee, Intel Committee, and Weaponization of the Federal Government Select Subcommittee, reveal Morell worked to gather signatures for the statement in part for the explicit purpose of helping then-candidate Joe Biden in the final presidential debate.

Morell also asked the CIA to “rush” approval of the statement after someone from “kind of the Biden world” asked Morell to issue it, according to evidence compiled by the committees.

The statement, which Biden did indeed rely on in the October 22 presidential debate to discredit the Post’s story, claimed without evidence that the story had “all the classic earmarks of a Russian information campaign.”

Written by now-Breitbart News Political Editor Emma-Jo Morris, the Post’s report suggested the possibility that Joe Biden, while serving as vice president, pushed for the firing of a prosecutor investigating a Ukrainian company to protect his son Hunter, who served at the time in a lucrative position on the company’s board.

The story was based on emails the Post obtained from Hunter’s abandoned laptop, which the FBI also subpoenaed in 2019 when the repair shop owner with whom he left it reported its existence, and which many other legacy media outlets have since corroborated as authentic.

Morell told the congressional committees in April, according to their report, that he still to this day stands by his suspicions about Russian involvement in the story, despite no evidence ever surfacing to support those suspicions. Morell conceded however that he would have worded the statement “differently” because “we now know the emails are authentic.”

Attorney Mark Zaid, who represents several signers of the debunked statement, is also featured on the top 500 list.

While Morell said he would have changed some of the statement’s language, Zaid told the New York Times he knows “of no signatory who retracts a single word.”

The Washingtonian compiled its list by looking “for those who have deep subject-matter expertise and significant understanding of how the nation’s capital works, with the goal of getting action.”

Durham calls out former CIA Director Brennan for Trump-Russia statements to media

"When Brennan was provided with an overview of the origins of the Attorney General's Review after Special Counsel Mueller finding a lack of evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian authorities, Brennan offered that 'they found no conspiracy,'" the report reads.

Special Counsel John Durham highlighted CIA Director John Brennan's public statements to the media on the Trump-Russia collusion narrative that appeared in conflict with testimony he gave on the matter as part of the investigation.

Throughout the news cycle, Brennan was a prominent voice from the intelligence community promoting the collusion theory.

"President Trump’s Claims of No Collusion Are Hogwash" he wrote in a New York Times op-ed from August of 2018. In 2017, he testified before the House Intelligence Committee that "I encountered and am aware of information and intelligence that revealed contacts and interactions between Russian officials and U.S. persons involved in the Trump campaign."

A consistent theme throughout Durham's report was that the intelligence community lacked any meaningful evidence to substantiate the allegations of collusion, and Brennan proved no exception.

"CIA Director John Brennan and Deputy Director David Cohen were interviewed by the Office and were asked about their knowledge of any actual evidence of members of the Trump campaign conspiring or colluding with Russian officials," Durham wrote. "When Brennan was provided with an overview of the origins of the Attorney General's Review after Special Counsel Mueller finding a lack of evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian authorities, Brennan offered that 'they found no conspiracy.'"

"In fact, Special Counsel Mueller's report explicitly states that "[u]ltimately, [his] investigation did not establish that the [Trump] Campaign coordinated or conspired with the Russian government in its election-interference activities," he continued. "Relatedly, however, shortly after Special Counsel Mueller delivered his report to the Attorney General and the Attorney General had issued a short summary of the Report's findings, Brennan appeared on MSNBC's Morning Joe program, where he stated that '[he] suspected there was more than there actually was' with regard to collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia in the 2016 election, thus suggesting that he had no actual knowledge of such information."

BOMBSHELL: Obama Admin Had No ‘Actual Evidence’ Of Collusion By Trump When It Launched Crossfire Hurricane Investigation

The Obama administration possessed no real evidence that then-candidate Donald Trump colluded with Russian government officials when it launched its investigation into the Trump campaign leading up to the 2016 election, according to a new bombshell report.

On Monday, Special Counsel John Durham released the findings of his years-long investigation into the origins of the FBI’s surveillance of the Trump campaign in the months before, during, and after the 2016 presidential contest. Despite the agency’s claims that the inquiry — commonly referred to as Crossfire Hurricane — was predicated on the belief that Trump’s campaign was colluding with Russian officials leading up to the election, Durham’s report found the FBI had no evidence to warrant such an investigation.

“Indeed, based on the evidence gathered in the multiple exhaustive and costly federal investigations of these matters, including the instant investigation, neither the U.S. law enforcement nor the Intelligence Community appears to have possessed any actual evidence of collusion in their holdings at the commencement of the Crossfire Hurricane Investigation,” the report reads.

The baseless investigation into the Trump campaign started after Australian intelligence notified the FBI about “concerning comments” from George Papadopoulos, an unpaid foreign policy advisor for the Trump team, about the Russians purportedly having dirt on Hillary Clinton’s campaign. In his report, Durham details the recklessness with which leading FBI officials, such as then-Deputy Director Andrew McCabe and then-Deputy Assistant Director for Counterintelligence Peter Strzok, launched Crossfire Hurricane and further revealed that the FBI did not possess evidence of Trump-Russia collusion as late as March 2017.

The FBI launched a full investigation “without (i) any significant review of its own intelligence databases, (ii) collection and examination of any relevant intelligence from other U.S. intelligence agencies, (iii) interviews of witnesses essential to understand the raw information it had received or (iv) using any of the standard analytical tools typically employed by the FBI in evaluating raw intelligence,” the report reads. “In addition, FBI records prepared by Strzok in February and March 2017 show that at the time of the opening of Crossfire Hurricane, the FBI had no information in its holdings indicating that at any time during the campaign anyone in the Trump campaign had been in contact with any Russian intelligence officials.”

Durham furthermore notes how the FBI’s launching of Crossfire Hurricane — which was “based on raw, unanalyzed, and uncorroborated intelligence” — also reflected “a noticeable departure from how it approached prior matters involving possible attempted foreign election interference plans aimed at the Clinton campaigns.” In one instance, “FBI Headquarters and Department officials required defensive briefings to be provided to Clinton and other officials or candidates who appeared to be targets of foreign interference,” according to the report.

Meanwhile, the FBI did not notify Trump or his team when launching inquiries into campaign officials such as Papadopoulos, Carter Page, Paul Manafort, and Michael Flynn.

Durham’s report also highlights the baselessness of the Steele Dossier, which the FBI used in its application to acquire a FISA warrant to spy on the Trump campaign. In the months leading up to the 2016 election, Perkins Coie, a law firm acting on behalf of the Clinton campaign, hired Fusion GPS to conduct opposition research on Trump and his affiliates. Led by Glenn Simpson, Fusion GPS acquired the help of former British spy Christopher Steele to “investigate Trump’s ties to Russia.” On July 5, several weeks before the launch of Crossfire Hurricane, Steele provided the FBI with a series of derogatory stories concerning Trump’s alleged ties to Russia. These reports are what became known as the Steele Dossier.

“As noted, it was not until mid-September that the Crossfire Hurricane investigators received several of the Steele Reports,” the Durham report reads. “Within days of their receipt, the unvetted and unverified Steele Reports were used to support probable cause in the FBI’s FISA applications targeting Page.”

Durham ultimately concluded the FBI failed to corroborate any of its key claims regarding the Dossier, writing, “Our investigation determined that the Crossfire Hurricane investigators did not and could not corroborate any of the substantive allegations contained in the Steele reporting.”

Hungary has blocked the transfer of €500 million ($544 million) worth of arms and military equipment from the EU to Ukraine, Italy’s ANSA news agency reported on Monday. Late last year, Hungary held up an €18 billion ($19.5 billion) tranche of economic aid for Ukraine, which the bloc would have borrowed on global markets. Former US consulate worker charged with treason

The 62-year-old Russian has been arrested in Vladivostok

A former employee of the US diplomatic mission in the Russian far east has been arrested and charged with treason, Russian media outlets reported on Monday, citing the Federal Security Service (FSB). Robert Shonov faces up to eight years in prison if convicted.

Shonov was detained during an FSB operation in Vladivostok, but it was not clear exactly when. As of Monday, he has been in the Lefortovo jail in Moscow, where he will be held for 90 days pending a court appearance that has not yet been scheduled.

Shonov, 62, has been charged with violating article 275.1 of the Russian criminal code, for alleged “confidential collaboration” with a foreign government or organization.

The US embassy in Moscow told reporters it was aware of the reports that Shonov had been arrested, but had “nothing further to share at this time.”

Asked about Shonov’s arrest on Monday, the State Department and the White House both said they had seen the reports but would refrain from commenting until they’d had time to learn more.

It was unclear what Shonov used to do for the consulate in Vladivostok, which closed in 2020 along with another outpost in Yekaterinburg. The move was part of a series of tit-for-tat sanctions that Moscow and Washington have engaged in since 2016, when the US accused Russia of election meddling. The subpoena was issued on April 28 due to suspicions that Epstein “may have referred or attempted to refer” Musk as a client to JPMorgan, CNBC reported.

Musk has not been accused of any wrongdoing.

The filing revealed that the Virgin Islands attempted to serve the subpoena to Musk but was unsuccessful.

“The Government contacted Mr. Musk’s counsel via email to ask if he would be authorized to accept service on Mr. Musk’s behalf in this matter but did not receive a response confirming or denying his authority,” the filing says.

The USVI is now requesting permission from Manhattan federal court Judge Jed Rakoff to serve Musk with the subpoena for the documents through Tesla’s registered agent.

The lawsuit accuses JPMorgan of enabling and benefiting from Epstein’s trafficking of young women to his private island in the Virgin Islands for abuse.

Musk has not publicly commented on the case.

The FBI investigation of former President Donald Trump’s campaign over allegations of collusion with Russia was “seriously flawed” and had no basis in evidence, special counsel John Durham wrote in a final report released Monday.

According to Durham, the former Connecticut US Attorney who was tapped by then-AG Bill Barr in in the spring of 2019 to examine the probe that overshadowed much of the 45th president’s term of office, investigators opened the notorious probe — dubbed “Operation Crossfire Hurricane” — despite having no “actual evidence of collusion in their holdings.”

Over the following months and as the probe ramped up under the oversight of former FBI Director Robert Mueller, Durham found investigators ignored exculpatory evidence, put too much stock in information provided by Trump’s political opponents, and carried out surveillance without genuinely believing there was probable cause to do so.

“Throughout the duration of Crossfire Hurricane, facts and circumstances that were inconsistent with the premise that Trump and/or persons associated with the Trump campaign were involved in a collusive or conspiratorial relationship with the Russian government were ignored or simply assessed away,” Durham wrote.

In the executive summary of the 306-page report, which was submitted to Attorney General Merrick Garland Friday, and released Monday afternoon, the special counsel wrote that investigators acted “without appropriate objectivity or restraint in pursuing allegations of collusion or conspiracy between a U.S. political campaign and a foreign power.”

However, Durham stopped short of recommending significant reforms of the FBI, writing that “the answer is not the creation of new rules but a renewed fidelity to the old.”

“[P]rior to the submission of the initial Page FISA application, the FBI in fact knew Steele had told Handling Agent-I that Fusion GPS had been hired by a law firm and that his ultimate client was ‘senior Democrats’ supporting Clinton,” the report said. “Moreover, it knew that Handling Agent-I’s notes of this meeting reflect that, according to Steele, ‘HC’ (Hillary Clinton) was aware of his (Steele’s) reporting.”

The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court wasn’t told, however, that it was being asked to surveil one political campaign based on the say-so of a rival.

An FBI Office of General Counsel unit chief told Durham’s investigators that within the bureau “there was also some concern that Steele had been hired by a law firm on behalf of the Clinton campaign and the DNC to conduct opposition research on Trump.”

But “[d]espite these concerns, the fact that Steele’s information was being financed by the DNC and/or the Clinton campaign was not included in the affidavit’s source description of Steele,” the report notes. “The failure to provide this information to the FISC was a major omission in that the information clearly had the potential to affect the analysis of any bias in Steele’s reporting.”

Igor Danchenko, who was Steele’s “primary sub source” and boasted of contributing “80%” of the “intel” for the dossier, meanwhile, may have been spreading Russian lies, according to the report — which notes Danchenko was once investigated as a possible spy before becoming a FBI informant.

“The failure to identify the primary sub-source early in the investigation’s pursuit of FISA authority prevented the FBI from properly examining the possibility that some or much of the non-open source information contained in Steele’s reporting was Russian disinformation (that wittingly or unwittingly was passed along to Steele), or that the reporting was otherwise not credible,” the report says.

However, Durham writes that his investigators were “unable to determine precisely when the FBI first obtained any of the details of the Clinton Plan intelligence (other than Director Corney, who attended the August 3, 2016 briefing). It appears, however, that this occurred no later than August 22, 2016. On that date, an FBI cyber analyst… emailed a number of FBI employees, including Supervisory Intelligence Analyst Brian Auten and Section Chief Moffa, the most senior intelligence analysts on the Crossfire Hurricane team, to provide an update on Russian intelligence materials.The email included a summary of the contents of the Clinton Plan intelligence. The Office did not identify any replies or follow-up actions taken by FBI personnel as a result of this email.”

Additional intelligence fingering Hillary Clinton came the following month, Durham wrote.

“In late September 2016, high-ranking U.S. national security officials, including Corney and [intelligence director James] Clapper, received an intelligence product on Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election that included the Clinton Plan intelligence. The Office did not identify any further actions that the CIA or FBI took in response to this intelligence product as it related to the Clinton Plan intelligence,” the report says.

Durham concluded his investigation, which ended up running longer than the probe that triggered it, without achieving the promise of spectacular accountability for the so-called “deep state” yearned for by 76-year-old Trump’s supporters.

Over Durham’s more than four years of work, he achieved just one guilty plea, with former FBI lawyer Kevin Clinesmith copping in 2020 to falsifying documents in order to get a surveillance warrant against Trump campaign aide Carter Page renewed.

Two other court cases, brought against Danchenko and former Clinton campaign attorney Michael Sussmann ended in swift acquittals.

Durham Report: FBI Received Tip about Clinton Plan to ‘Vilify’ Trump By Tying Him to Putin, But Didn’t Investigate

The Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) was tipped off about the Hillary Clinton campaign’s plan to “vilify” Donald Trump by tying him to Russian President Vladimir Putin, but did not investigate that tip, according to Special Counsel John Durham’s report released Monday.

Durham’s report said the FBI received “highly significant intelligence” from a “trusted foreign source pointing to a Clinton campaign plan to vilify Trump by tying him to Vladimir Putin so as to divert attention from her own concerns relating to her use of a private email server.”

“Unlike the FBI’s opening of a full investigation of unknown members of the Trump campaign based on raw, uncorroborated information, in this separate matter involving a purported Clinton campaign plan, the FBI never opened any type of inquiry, issued any taskings, employed any analytical personnel, or produced any analytical products in connection with the information,” the report said.

The report said that the lack of action by the FBI was despite the fact that the Clinton plan was so significant that CIA Director John Brennan briefed then-President Barack Obama, then-Vice President Joe Biden, Attorney General Loretta Lynch, FBI Director James Comey, and other senior government officials “days” after the tip was received.

The CIA also sent a formal written referral to Comey and then-Deputy Assistant Director of the FBI’s Counterintelligence Division, Peter Strzok, for their consideration and action, the report said.

Durham said this lack of action contrasted with the FBI’s actions on Trump.

“The speed and manner in which the FBI opened and investigated Crossfire Hurricane during the presidential election season based on raw, unanalyzed, and uncorroborated intelligence also reflected a noticeable departure” from how it handled matters involving Clinton.

That filing said the Virgin Islands has tried unsuccessfully to serve Musk with the subpoena, which was issued on April 28, because of suspicion that Epstein "may have referred or attempted to refer" Musk as a client to JPMorgan.

The U.S. territory asked Manhattan federal court Judge Jed Rakoff in the filing to allow it to serve Musk with the subpoena for the documents with Tesla's registered agent.

That subpoena demands Musk turn over any documents showing communication involving him, JPMorgan and Epstein, as well as "all Documents reflecting or regarding Epstein's involvement in human trafficking and/or his procurement of girls or women for consensual sex."

The Virgin Islands is suing JPMorgan for allegedly enabling and benefiting from Epstein's trafficking of young women to his private island in the territory to be abused by him and others.

JPMorgan denies the government's claims, which are mirrored in a separate pending civil lawsuit in Manhattan federal court by a woman who says Epstein sexually abused her. JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon is due to be deposed for both lawsuits beginning on May 26.

A May 4 court filing by the Virgin Islands revealed the government had issued a similar subpoena for documents to Google co-founder Larry Page, and that it likewise was having difficulty locating Page.

And the territory previously issued subpoenas to Page's fellow Google co-founder Sergey Brin, former Disney executive Michael Ovitz, Hyatt Hotels executive chairman Thomas Pritzker and Mort Zuckerman, the billionaire real estate investor.

In Monday's filing, the Virgin Islands said, "Upon information and belief, Elon Musk — the CEO of Tesla, Inc., among other companies — is a high-net-worth individual who Epstein may have referred or attempted to refer to JPMorgan."

The government said that it had hired an investigative firm to try to locate an address from Musk, and also contacted one of his lawyers.

That lawyer in past federal cases has waived the requirement of him being personally served with legal documents, according to the filing.

"The Government contacted Mr. Musk's counsel via email to ask if he would be authorized to accept service on Mr. Musk's behalf in this matter but did not receive a response confirming or denying his authority," the filing said.

CNBC has reached out to request comment from Musk. In addition to being CEO of Tesla, Musk is head of SpaceX and owner of Twitter.

In 2018, Epstein told The New York Times writer James Stewart that he had been advising Musk after the Securities and Exchange Commission opened a probe into Musk's comments about taking the company private.

When the Times reached out to Tesla for comment, the company strongly denied that claim, saying, "It is incorrect to say that Epstein ever advised Elon on anything." Epstein had predicted to Stewart that "everyone at Tesla would deny talking to him or being his friend," according to an article about their interview.

Epstein, a former friend of Donald Trump Bill Clinton and Prince Andrew of Britain, was a customer of the bank from 1998 through 2013. In 2008, he pleaded guilty to a state charge in Florida of soliciting sex from an underage girl.

Epstein killed himself in a Manhattan jail in August 2019, a month after being arrested on child sex trafficking charges.

BREAKING: The U.S. Virgin Islands issued a subpoena to Elon Musk seeking documents as part of that government’s lawsuit against JPMorgan Chase over sex trafficking by the bank's late longtime customer Jeffrey Epstein, a court filing revealed Monday according to CNBC. That filing said the Virgin Islands has tried to serve Musk with the subpoena, which was issued on April 28 because of suspicion that Epstein “may have referred or attempted to refer” Musk as a client to JPMorgan. Two thoughts on this:

Musk has attended dinners with other tech executives that Epstein was present at.
