Crazy and miraculous that two fire department personnel were able to crawl up and out of this crash. Sad also that one on the chopper died and one person on the ground was killed. Broward County fire rescue Capt. Terryson Jackson, a flight paramedic who died in the crash. Those two firemen on the roof are the ones crawling out of the crash, not rescuers responding to the crash.

Atlas V rocket to launch Space Force's 'watchdog' satellite Silent Barker on Aug. 28.

 

The United States Space Force is about to get an unprecedented view of some of the most distant reaches of Earth orbit.

 

The United Launch Alliance (ULA) will launch the multi-payload Silent Barker mission, also designated as NROL-107, on Tuesday (Aug. 29) on the behalf of the Space Force and the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO). Liftoff is set for 8:34 a.m. ET (1234 GMT) on an Atlas V rocket from Space Launch Complex 41 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.

 

The launch will be livestreamed by ULA beginning at 8:15 a.m. ET (1215 GMT) on Tuesday. You can watch it live on Space.com, courtesy of the company, or directly from ULA's YouTube channel.

 

Silent Barker will mark the 18th and final Atlas V mission for the NRO to launch from Cape Canaveral; ULA will soon replace the rocket with its new Vulcan Centaur. The mission will place multiple highly secretive payloads into geosynchronous orbit, the region of space some 22,236 miles (35,786 km) up that allows spacecraft to remain stationary above fixed points on Earth.

 

Space Force Lt. General Michael Guetlein, commander of Space Systems Command, said in a pre-launch teleconference on Monday (Aug. 28) that the Silent Barker mission is designed to "deter aggression" through letting the United States' potential adversaries know that the Space Force is keeping a close watch on what happens in geosynchronous orbit (GEO).

 

"A huge element of deterrence is the ability for the adversary to know what we can and cannot see," Guetlein said. "So we actually want our competitors to know that we have eyes in GEO and that we can see what's happening in GEO. Not only are we going to maintain custody and the ability to detect what's going on in GEO, but we'll have the indications and warnings to know there's something out of the normal occurring, and that goes a long way towards deterrence."

 

Silent Barker will act as a "watchdog" in geosynchronous orbit, keeping an eye on any satellites that reposition themselves to get a better look at U.S. spacecraft or even to carry out counterspace attacks, according to NRO director Chris Scolese.

 

"Satellites do move in geosynchronous orbit," Scolese said. "You've heard about communication satellites moving from one location to another to provide better coverage for other areas. Certainly we want to be able to see that so we know what is going on in that area.

 

"But we also want to know if there is something going on that is unexpected, or shouldn't be going on that could potentially represent a threat to a high value asset, either ours or one of our allies'," Scolese added.

 

The exact capabilities of Silent Barker remain unknown. During Monday's teleconference, officials confirmed that Silent Barker will consist of multiple payloads, although neither the NRO nor Space Force are sharing exact numbers   — nor is either agency divulging the manufacturers and contractors with whom they are partnering to develop the Silent Barker spacecraft, Scolese said in response to a question from Space.com.

 

However, in 2021, Air Force Space and Missile Systems issued a contract modification to defense contractor L3 Harris, noting that the total value of its Silent Barker contract was over $283 million. A previous budget estimate conducted by the Government Accountability Office estimated the cost of the program to be $994 million, with a planned full operational capability scheduled for 2026.

 

Silent Barker's data will be processed by the National Space Defense Center in Colorado Springs, while the satellite itself will be operated by the NRO.

 

Silent Barker's launch comes after the U.S. Space Force has established units dedicated to tracking threats in orbit and even targeting enemy satellites.

It occurred to me recently that the increasingly labyrinthine revelations of Joe Biden’s involvement in corrupt dealings with his son Hunter would make a good Netflix TV series, possibly called “The Family Business” or less subtly “The Big Guy and Me.”

 

But then I realized that Netflix had already made the show in 2013 and called it “House of Cards.” The manipulative, deceitful politician Frank Underwood at the center of the plot was an 11-term South Carolina congressman, whereas Biden was a 36-year senator from Delaware. But both are Democrats who came from humble beginnings and were unexpectedly elevated to the vice presidency, and then scratched their way into the White House. And though Underwood seems outwardly to be a caring, compassionate man, in fact, he is a self-serving, scheming politician, much like what we have learned about Joe Biden from Hunter’s laptop, several congressional investigations, and the reporting of John Solomon and others.

 

If you don’t know about Joe’s self-enrichment scheme, check out this article from Fox News as a primer. Bribery, money laundering, obstruction of justice, tax evasion and more. Of course, the Democratic Party and their allies in the mainstream media tell a different story. To get a sense of the beatification of Biden, I turned to the new voice of liberalism, ChatGPT, to compare the fictional Frank Underwood and our real-life president. As I expected, the AI chatbot saw no similarities between the two:

Viasat reports problem with new Inmarsat satellite

WASHINGTON — A new Inmarsat communications satellite has suffered an “unexpected anomaly,” the second in as many months for a Viasat-owned spacecraft that could create bigger headaches for the space insurance sector.

 

Viasat, which completed its acquisition of Inmarsat in May, announced Aug. 24 that the Inmarsat-6 (I-6) F2 spacecraft encountered a problem with its power subsystem while raising its orbit after its February launch. The company didn’t elaborate on the nature of the problem or when it took place, but noted the similar I-6 F1 satellite, launched in late 2021, is working normally.

 

“At this stage, Viasat and Airbus, the satellite’s manufacturer, are working to determine the root cause of the anomaly and assess whether the satellite will be able to perform its mission,” Viasat said in a statement. It added that Airbus Defence and Space considered this an “unprecedented event” as no previous Airbus-built spacecraft had suffered an in-orbit failure.

 

A SpaceX Falcon 9 launched I-6 F2 in February, placing it into a geostationary transfer orbit. The spacecraft was designed to use its electric propulsion system to go to its final geostationary orbit over the Atlantic. According to the U.S. Space Force’s Space-Track service, I-6 F2 was in an orbit of 23,061 by 48,126 kilometers with an inclination of 3.28 degrees, still well short of geostationary orbit. There has been no significant changes in its orbital parameters since mid-August.

 

Viasat downplayed the significance of I-6 F2, noting that the satellite had yet to enter service so its loss would not disrupt any customers. “I-6 F2’s initial mission was essentially to provide spare L-band and four gigabits per second of additional Ka-band capacity, consistent with deploying and operating a resilient, redundant network,” Mark Dankberg, chief executive of Viasat, said in a statement.

 

The announcement comes six weeks after Viasat acknowledged a problem deploying the main antenna on its ViaSat-3 Americas satellite, launched April 30. That antenna, previously described by the company as “exceptionally large” in order to provide consumer broadband services, was provided by a third-party supplier for the Boeing-built satellite.

 

In an Aug. 9 earnings call, Dankberg said Viasat was not ready yet to declare ViaSat-3 Americas a total loss. The company was still determining how much performance it could get from the broadband payload, which was designed to provide 1 terabit per second of capacity. He said the company expected to determine a plan forward by its next earnings call in November. That could include building a replacement satellite or using one of two other ViaSat-3 satellites, yet to be launched, to replace ViaSat-3 Americas.

 

If the company does declare ViaSat-3 Americas a total loss, that and I-6 F2 could deal a double whammy to the space insurance field. Insurers were already preparing for a claim of as large as $420 million from ViaSat-3 Americas. At the time, one insurer warned that the ViaSat-3 Americas claim could drive insurers from the market, reducing capacity and raising premiums for other companies.

 

In an Aug. 25 research note, Louie DiPalma, analyst with investment firm William Blair, said Viasat had a $350 million policy on I-6 F2. Those claims, along with the redundancy from Viasat’s overall satellite fleet, would mitigate the near-term financial effect of the two satellite losses on Viasat.

 

However, he added, “over the long term, Viasat and other industry participants will likely experience significant challenges with obtaining insurance for future satellite launches.”

 

Shares of Viasat were down about 5% in trading Aug. 25 on the Nasdaq. The company is near its 52-week low, down nearly 50% from a high in early June.

Semivan described one of the aliens as a Dementor from the Harry Potter films.

 

“I think they mention that the phenomenon is a natural part of our universe, and we’re living in it but we don’t recognize it," said Semivan in the interview.

 

"The same way that insects and animals don’t recognize the human universe.

 

"A cat and a dog could be running through a library, but they don’t have the faintest idea what the books are all about and what libraries are all about.

When discussing Unidentified Aerial Phenomena, also called UAPs, Semivan claims we have "zero answers" on the topic and stressed on the importance of conducting the necessary research to understand them.

Constitutional crisis:

2nd impeachment was about Jan 6. It was so unconstitutional, Justice Roberts wouldn't show up. Leahy took over and then had health issues keeping him from Senate for much of the time he had left before retiring.

All of the basic principals of law were applied except for a few key details. No Judge. Defendant Trump was granted all of his rights.

Our Constitution isn't to stop someone called "Prosecutor" from infringing on rights of citizens. It says Government.

After weeks of speculation, Hawaiian Electric Company, which provides power to Lahaina, admitted that its power lines caused the first of two flare-ups in a field next to Lahaina Intermediate School. But, the company maintains it is not responsible for the fires that killed at least 115 people and left an unknown number of others missing, making them the deadliest in the U.S. in more than a century.

 

The statement came in response to a lawsuit filed Thursday by Maui County that claims the utility was supposed “to properly maintain and repair the electric transmission lines, and other equipment including utility poles associated with their transmission of electricity, and to keep vegetation properly trimmed and maintained so as to prevent contact with overhead power lines and other electric equipment.”

 

Further, the suit says the electric company should have powered down its lines sooner, given the combination of very dry brush and very high winds. Today, Hawaiian Electric expressed disappointment at those claims.

 

“We were surprised and disappointed that the County of Maui rushed to court even before completing its own investigation,” Shelee Kimura, president and CEO of Hawaiian Electric said in a statement. “We believe the complaint is factually and legally irresponsible. It is inconsistent with the path that we believe we should pursue as a resilient community committed and accountable to each other as well as to Hawaii’s future. We continue to stand ready to work to that end with our communities and others. Unfortunately, the county’s lawsuit may leave us no choice in the legal system but to show its responsibility for what happened that day.”

 

The first blaze, which the electric company called “The Morning Fire,” reportedly occurred on August 8 “near the intersection of Lahainaluna Road and Hookahua Street at approximately 6:30 a.m.” A statement issued by Hawaiian Electric over the weekend maintains that videos taken by locals show “a small fire that can be seen by the downed lines spread[ing] into the field across the street from the Intermediate School.”

 

The utility maintains that the second flare-up that day, which it called “The Afternoon Fire” occurred while its employees were in the area repairing those downed lines, which were at that point powered off.

 

“Shortly before 3 p.m., while the power remained off, our crew members saw a small fire about 75 yards away from Lahainaluna Road in the field near the Intermediate School. They immediately called 911 and reported that fire.”

 

The crux of Hawaiian Electric’s argument seems to be that the Maui County Fire Department had declared the morning fire out and left the scene by the time the 3 p.m. flareup occurred.

 

“By 9 a.m. the Morning Fire was ‘100% contained,'” the company’s statement reads. “The Maui County fire chief subsequently reported that the Fire Department had determined that the Morning Fire was ‘extinguished,’ and the Fire Department left the scene by 2 p.m.”

 

Electric companies have been subject to mounting lawsuits in recent years over accusations their power lines have been the cause of increasingly massive fires across the Western U.S. The state of California’s single most costly and most deadly wildfire in recorded history, the 2018 Camp Fire, was ignited by a faulty electric transmission line. Early the next year, the utility responsible for those lines, Pacific Gas and Electric, filed for bankruptcy, citing expected wildfire liabilities of $30 billion.

House Republicans move closer to impeachment inquiry

House Republicans are moving closer to opening an impeachment inquiry after the transcribed interviews and public testimony earlier this summer by two IRS whistleblowers regarding the government's handling of its investigation into President Joe Biden's son, Hunter Biden.

 

The whistleblower testimony about the probe was a "game changer" according to a senior GOP aide, who told CBS News that with what House Republicans believe is significant new evidence uncovered by their committee investigators, the "momentum is going toward opening an impeachment inquiry."

 

The aide said September would be a pivotal month, with the anticipated testimony of Attorney General Merrick Garland before the House Judiciary Committee. Garland is expected to be pressed by Republicans about apparent discrepancies in statements about the authority held by then-U.S. Attorney David Weiss to bring charges in the five-year investigation of Hunter Biden.

 

White House spokesperson Ian Sams said, "This baseless impeachment exercise would be a disaster for congressional Republicans, and don't take our word for it: just listen to the chorus of their fellow Republicans who admit there is no evidence for their false allegations and that pursuing such a partisan stunt will 'backfire.'"

 

Garland and the two IRS whistleblowers — supervisory agent Gary Shapley and case agent Joseph Ziegler — disagree over whether then-U.S. Attorney David Weiss had the ultimate authority to bring charges in the five-year probe.

 

In June, Garland had said that Weiss would be able "to make a decision to prosecute any way in which he wanted to and in any district in which he wanted to."

 

But in August, Garland said Weiss had informed him that his investigation had reached a stage where he believed his work should continue as special counsel, and he then asked for the designation. Garland said he concluded it was "in the public interest" to appoint Weiss special counsel, giving him expanded powers to continue the probe, in light of the "extraordinary circumstances" of the case.

 

Since the whistleblowers' testimony in July, the House GOP-led Ways and Means Committee has also subpoenaed two senior IRS officials with direct knowledge of the October 2022 meeting during which IRS whistleblower Shapley alleged Weiss had said he did not have the ultimate authority to bring charges and had been denied special counsel status.

 

The Republican chairman of the committee, Rep. Jason Smith, sent letters to Michael Batdorf, identified as an IRS director of field operations, and Darrell Waldon, an IRS special agent in charge, asking them to appear for transcribed interviews in early September. …

Fentanyl takes lives at the Navy’s boot camp base

 

As America grapples with a fentanyl crisis, multiple junior sailors have died from the drug aboard the base that houses the Navy’s boot camp in recent years, and investigators have been probing efforts to smuggle drugs onto the installation, including through the U.S. mail system, since at least 2020, according to records obtained by Navy Times.

 

Two other sailors are facing criminal charges in connection to one of those deaths, records show.

 

The Navy’s law enforcement agency launched at least five separate investigations into “illicit/controlled substances” being mailed to servicemembers at Naval Station Great Lakes, Illinois, in the second half of 2020 alone, according to Naval Criminal Investigative Service records.

 

Those substances include fentanyl, cocaine and the opioids hydrocodone and oxycodone, as well as the hallucinogen LSD, Xanax and THC, the psychoactive component in marijuana.

 

“Numerous service members have been interviewed and related the illicit substances were being sent via the US mail and/or in re-packaged food containers,” according to a December 2020 NCIS investigative summary report.

 

These incidents and sailor deaths, which the Navy has not publicized and which have not been reported before, raise questions about how young sailors have been able to use and distribute drugs there.

In this subsection, the terms “biological agent” and “toxin” do not encompass any biological agent or toxin that is in its naturally occurring environment, if the biological agent or toxin has not been cultivated, collected, or otherwise extracted from its natural source.

For purposes of this section, the term “for use as a weapon” includes the development, production, transfer, acquisition, retention, or possession of any biological agent, toxin, or delivery system for other than prophylactic, protective, bona fide research, or other peaceful purposes.

I don't do this much often, but I had to share this:

I thought my "bonsai" walnut tree was dead. I had to move it, so I cut some roots that were growing through the bucket. The leaves fell off and there was no sign of life. I replaced it in an other bucket and placed the orgone right away, but it looked like it did nothing. Saturday morning I woke up bc of a very loud thunder and there came a few afterwards, there also was heavy rain. Later on the day I looked at my small tree and I could not believe my eyes… I think it's a miracle… Now autumn is coming, I wonder what will happen. Or maybe it's better to keep the tree inside through the winter…
