Prayer Campaign: Week 3

This is the third and final week of our prayer campaign. Thank you to all who pray and welcome to those who wish to join in now.

Enigma code & H.M.S Bulldog (1/4)

Enigma is a very famous name amongst WW2 Military Historians. It was the name given to a family of Cipher machines invented in Germany by Arthur Scherbius at the end of World War One. They were adopted by the German military in 1925 and saw widespread use through World War Two.

The Enigma Coding Machines were used by the Germans to encrypt and decrypt the secure message traffic of the German Armed Forces; the Heer (Army), Kreigsmarine (Navy) and Luftwaffe (Air Force). This traffic could relate to anything, troop movements, ship movements or attack orders all valuable information that needed to be secured for transmission to the German forces. Enigma was thought to be unbreakable and the Germans put confidence in that statement evidenced by their total lack of knowledge about Allied Decryption efforts.

Being able to read secure German message traffic was of course a crucial goal to Allied Operations and thus became a priority for British Intelligence leading to the famous designation of ULTRA for decoded German Signals Intelligence. The Intelligence service based their Enigma Code Breakers in Bletchley Park to preserve security, it was absolutely critical that the Germans did not get wind of the Allied attempts to break Enigma.

Thus the need to get hold of Kreigsmarine Codebooks and a machine were great, particularly as the U-Boat war intensified and brought Britain to the brink of defeat. This is where HMS Bulldog comes in. Having had a relatively uneventful war thus far escorting Royal Navy carriers to the Homefleet from their bases in the Mediterranean, she would be responsible for the first recorded capture of a Kreigsmarine Enigma Machine and Coding Books.

Enigma code & H.M.S Bulldog (2/4)

Bulldog’s captain realised at the last moment that they might be able to seize the German Boat and changed course…

HMS Bulldog prepared and sent a boarding party under the command of Lieutenant David Balme. They were able to secure the Enigma Machine and the complete set of codebooks and stripped the boat of anything useful after a number of trips. William Stewart Pollock, a Radio Operator on loan to Bulldog was the man responsible for securing the Enigma machine and Codebooks because he thought they looked out of place in the Radio Room.

The Admiralty realised the significance of the capture and the recovered equipment and information. In order to preserve the secrecy of the seizure of the Enigma Information they ordered the U-Boat scuttled and the crew were sent to Iceland to be interned.

The capture allowed the code breakers at Bletchley Park to crack the German Navy’s codes and gave them unparalleled insight into the more secure operations that the Kreigsmarine used with regard to its encryption. Much work would still need to be done however, the German Codes would change soon enough and the Kreigsmarine would switch to an even more complex variant of Enigma in 1942.

By 1945, because of the work of the Cryptanalysts at Bletchley Park and the actions of Military units like HMS Bulldog in securing German Cryptographic Information, all German Encrypted Traffic was being decrypted within a day or two. The Germans never even suspected that it might have been broken. U-110 was also the first U-Boat captured in World War Two, another record for Bulldog and her crew.

According to a petition for a protection order/restraining order filed on June 7 in Standing Rock Sioux Tribal Court and obtained by ET, the parents of 18-year-old Tokata Iron Eyes Chase Iron Eyes and Sara Jumping Eagle claim the Fantastic Beasts actor "uses violence, intimidation, threat of violence, fear, paranoia, delusions and drugs to hold sway over a young adolescent Tokata. Ezra has brainwashed Tokata. Ezra Miller has ensured that Tokata is without a phone and has given her bankcard to another of his workers." Chase and Sara also claim that Miller, 29, told Tokata about the actor's sex addiction and that they had been raped at 14, which her parents allege appear to be "means to gain trust from a potential victim."

 

"It has now become clear, through discussions with multiple friends of Tokata and Ezra, that Ezra convinced Tokata to have sex with Ezra sometime in January 2022 as a means to help 'cure' Ezra's sex addiction," the petition alleges. "Given Tokata's mental state, there are questions about Tokata's ability to consent, then and now." They further accused Miller of "taking advantage of a power dynamic as a former trusted family friend/mentor."

What is the significance of the British Bulldog?

The Bulldog is now a national icon, symbolising British pluck, but where does this reputation come from?

Its strength, tenacity and willingness to fight larger animals appealed to 18th-century political cartoonists, who began depicting the female figure of Britannia being accompanied by both a lion and Bulldog.

As the phrase ‘British Bulldog spirit’, meaning unrelenting courage, had evolved during the 19th century, plucky Bulldogs soon became a regular fixture in World War I propaganda posters.

But perhaps the most symbolism came when Winston Churchill became Prime Minister.

His jowly face, broad body, and steadfast determination to overcome powerful Nazi forces in WW2 made him an almost living embodiment of the heroic pooch.

SEOUL, Nov 5 (Reuters) - South Korea from Monday will re-impose a ban on short-selling shares at least until June to promote a "level playing field" for retail and institutional investors, financial authorities said on Sunday.

The ban was lifted in May 2021 for trades involving the shares of companies with large market capitalisation included in the KOSPI200 and KOSDAQ150 share price indices. The restriction has remained in place for most other stocks. Short-selling involves selling borrowed shares to buy back at a lower price and pocket the difference. "The measure is aimed at fundamentally easing 'the tilted playing field' between institutional and retail investors," Financial Services Commission (FSC) Chairman Kim Joo-hyun told a news briefing.

"Amid continued uncertainty in financial markets, major foreign investment banks have been engaged as a matter of practice in unfair trades … and we determined that it would be impossible to maintain fair trading discipline," Kim said. The FSC will review market activity in June to decide whether there is significant improvement to allow the ban to be lifted, he said.

The regulator last week said it would establish a team of investigators to probe short-selling by foreign investment banks for illegal activity including so-called naked short-selling.

Naked short-selling - in which an investor short-sells shares without first borrowing them or determining they can be borrowed - is banned in South Korea.(‘banned here too but it’s out of control and has been for years….go ask Patrick Byrne)

 

The Financial Supervisory Service in October said it would likely fine two Hong Kong-based investment banks it determined had engaged in naked short-selling transactions worth 40 billion won ($29.58 million) and 16 billion won respectively. (Surely they made wayyy moar so a fine of say 10% or whatever against whatever they made is a business model they count on)

Earlier in the year, the regulator fined five foreign firms including Credit Suisse for naked short-selling.

Officials and market watchers alike have cited uncertainty around short-selling regulation(same problem all over NO ONE ENFORCES IT)as among factors needing to be resolved for influential index provider MSCI to upgrade South Korea to developed-market status.

This reminds me of a family story told about one of my great uncles (top brass mil intel, there's a lot of spooks in my family). This was back in the 1960s and his teenage children were giving him some grief about nuclear weapons programmes and the threat they posed. Eventually they provoked him to the point that he broke his silence and made an extremely sharp comment along the lines of: "If you're afraid of nuclear weapons you have NO IDEA how terrifying the secret weapons are."

That's all he could say, but the story was repeated to me a generation later with a weight of seriousness that set it apart from all other stories. It was generally believed that he was referring to biochemical weapons.

If the threat of biological warfare was that severe in the 1960's, how bad is it now, with an additional 60 years of research & development?

I've met 3 or 4 jews in my life as far as i know.

The first 2 jews (Father and son from Israel) offered me tea on a high mountain in Europe. And held a friendly conservation.

 

The 3th Jew i've met was a co-worker. He lived, for as far as i could see, in an environment (Besides his own house i guess) without many more Jewish people. His friend was not a Jew. Just a regular guy. 2 regular guys doing regular stuff.

No, the Bible was written by men who were told what to write by the Holy Spirit. It's the real deal. It's also why the early Christian Church came about so quickly. UK poised to brand dissent as ‘extremism’ – Guardian

 

Anyone who “undermines” the country’s institutions or values could be targeted under controversial proposed regulations

 

The UK is considering adopting a new definition of “extremism” that includes anyone who “undermines” British institutions or values, The Guardian reported on Saturday, citing internal government documents.

 

“Extremism is the promotion or advancement of any ideology which aims to overturn or undermine the UK’s system of parliamentary democracy, its institutions and values,” reads the new definition, reportedly drafted as part of a national counterextremism plan announced by cabinet minister Michael Gove’s Department for Leveling Up, Housing and Communities earlier this year.

 

The source documents, marked “official – sensitive,” trumpet its potential to “frame a new, unified response to extremism.” The lack of public debate or consultation regarding the new definition has worried activists, who fear it will effectively criminalize dissent.

 

Index on Censorship editor Martin Bright called the move “an unwarranted attack on freedom of expression [that] would potentially criminalize every student radical and revolutionary dissident.”

 

It has never been the British way to arrest people for thought crime.

 

Even government officials are reportedly concerned the new definition constitutes “a crackdown on freedom of speech.” One unnamed Whitehall official told The Guardian, “The definition is too broad and will capture legitimate organizations and individuals.”

 

Amnesty International UK racial justice director Ilyas Nagdee pointed out that a similar definition was already in use under the government’s counterterrorism project Prevent, where it was already hampering attempts to organize.

 

Prevent, which defines extremism as the “active opposition to fundamental British values, including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and the mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs,” has been criticized as both Islamophobic and soft on Islamic extremism.

 

A 2016 government proposal to further broaden the definition of “extremism” was scrapped as not legally acceptable, with experts pointing to the many different definitions held by various agencies – a problem seemingly addressed by Gove’s sweeping new scheme.

 

Organizations that would be “captured” under the new definition include the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB), Palestine Action, and Mend (Muslim Engagement and Development), according to The Guardian.

 

Palestine Action denounced the proposal as “an attempt to undermine and intimidate our movement,” telling the outlet, “We refuse to be deterred.” MCB urged the government to “challenge its own extremists who are intent on dividing our communities.”

 

As thousands of Britons took to the streets last month to demand Israel halt its bombardment of Gaza, Home Secretary Suella Braverman denounced the pro-Palestinian demonstrations as “hate marches,” demanding police officers re-examine whether waving Palestinian flags or chanting slogans could constitute hate crimes. On Friday, two women were charged under the Terrorism Act 2000 for carrying signs depicting paragliders like those used by Hamas to enter Israel.

Pannun also claimed New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport would be shut down on 19 November, calling for its name to be changed to the name of her two assassins.

 

The day was not chosen by accident: India is hosting the final match of the international men’s cricket World Cup on the same date.

 

“’It is the same day on which the final match of the World Terror [sic] Cup will be played. It will be shown to the world that a genocide of Sikhs happened in India and India did it.
