US Factory Orders Plunged Most Since COVID Lockdowns In October

The chaotic time series of US Factory Orders was expected to swing to a big loss (-3.00% MoM) in October (data released today) after a big jump in September and big drop in July (and a big jump in June!).

However, factory orders tumbled even more than expected, down 3.6% MoM - the biggest drop since the COVID lockdowns (April 2020).September was also revised lower (making October's decline even worse) from +2.8% MoM to +2.3% MoM…

The big monthly decline and revisions dragged orders down 2.1% YoY(the biggest drop since Sept 2020). Core factory orders also dropped (-1.2% Mom), leaving them down 2.2% YoY - the eight month in a row of annual declines. The final Durable Goods Orders data for October confirmed the preliminary print plunge down 5.4% MoM.

Finally, we note that it could have been a lot worse as .00Defense spending shot up 24.7% MoM (as non-defense dropped 15.8% MoM…hail the Military-Industrial Complex.==

Liz Cheney is back with another dire warning about the future of the United States, and guess who her claim centers on.

During an interview with CBS News, the former Wyoming congresswoman told John Dickerson that the nation is "sleepwalking into dictatorship," citing the possibility of Donald Trump being reelected in 2024. She also claimed the former president "told us what he will do."

…Cheney sees visions of Mussolini, while all Trump wants is to serve his four years and be able to say he bested those who tried to take him down. A hospital security guard had sex with a 79-year-old woman’s corpse, according to Arizona cops who allege the crime took place inside a morgue freezer last month.

Investigators yesterday arrested Randall Bird, 46, on multiple counts of crimes against a dead person, a felony. Until his recent firing, Bird worked at Banner University Medical Center in Phoenix, where he was responsible for transporting bodies to the hospital morgue.

Cops allege that is where Bird, seen at right, abused the corpse of an elderly woman which had been inside a body bag, according to a probable cause statement.

Investigators say two witnesses reported spotting Bird inside the morgue freezer around 5:30 AM “sweating profusely” and “acting very nervous” on October 24. Additionally, Bird’s zipper was "wide open," his uniform was disheveled, and his belt was atop a gurney "where a bagged deceased body was placed."

The morgue doors had been locked from the inside, cops noted.

The body bag which held victim had been "completely unzipped open," and the corpse was face down and "the victim's hospital gown had been rolled up above her belly button area, exposing her naked body from the waist down."

When the witnesses entered the morgue, they told police, Bird (seen above) sought to cover up the dead woman’s body by pulling down her gown.

Seen above, Bird claimed to have had a medical episode while inside the freezer and could not recall what had transpired afterwards.

However, cops say, Bird’s DNA was found on the corpse of the woman, who had died of natural causes. Post-mortem rib fractures were also detected on the victim’s body.

Bird, who is scheduled for a preliminary hearing next month, is free on supervised release until that court appearance.

A hospital spokesperson said that coworkers had “identified and reported concerning behavior of an employee in the hospital morgue,” which prompted an internal investigation, the filing of a report with law enforcement, and the firing of Bird. (2 pages)

However, the latest data from the Census Bureau's 2019 American Community Survey shows that the fertility of both native-born and immigrant women (also referred to as the foreign-born) continues to decline, with the fall-off being more pronounced among immigrants. In fact, 2019 was the first year in which immigrant fertility (legal and illegal together) dropped below replacement level — 2.1 children per woman on average. As a result, the presence of immigrants in the country has only a modest impact on overall fertility. We also find some evidence that the presence of immigrants may lower the fertility of native-born women, further reducing immigration's ability to increase overall U.S. fertility. A millionaire Canadian entrepreneur and his partner are feared dead after two charred bodies were found inside a burned car in the Caribbean island of Dominica.

Daniel Langlois, 66, and Dominique Marchand, both from Quebec, vanished on Friday and the burned vehicle matches a description of their car, local reports say.

Global Affairs Canada acknowledged the deaths of two Canadian citizens on the island but has not named them. Dominica cops are yet to confirm their identities.

'Canadian officials continue to monitor the situation closely, are engaging with local authorities and providing consular assistance. Due to privacy considerations, no further information can be disclosed,' the office said.

Dominica police said the intense fire in the car made identifying the bodies impossible, and they are relying on 'circumstantial evidence to connect them to the missing couple.'

Dominica News Online reported that three suspects were taken into custody in connection with the deaths.

Langlois is known as the founder of Softimage, which created 3D animations software for movies like Jurassic Park, Men in Black and Star Wars.

The entrepreneur sold the company to Microsoft in 1994 for $200 million and went on to found the Daniel Langlois Foundation for the Art, Sciences and Technology.

In October 2022 the couple opened a luxury, off-the-grid resort, Coulibri Ridge, on 200 acres of land on the island, which is located between Guadeloupe and Martinique.

They reportedly worked on the project for 20 years.

Langlois was beloved in Canada and Dominica, with many honoring him on social media following reports of his death.

Canada's minister of Canadian Heritage, Pascale St-Onge wrote: 'Daniel Langlois, a visionary in digital technologies and cinema, has left us. His legacy reflects his innovative spirit. My thoughts are with his loved ones.'

Daoust Dupes, a resident of the island, said on Facebook: 'Today my heart is heavy. I'm angry. I'm in tears. This couple were one of the sweetest who ever graced our shores. They did so much for this island. Investors par excellence. Just ask their employees, heritage enthusiasts, marine, land and wildlife conservationists, animal lovers, the community of Soufriere.

'A real tragedy that will result in more income loss for the people of Dominica. Thanks Daniel Langlois and Dominique Marchand you made this world a better place.'

Travel writer Jim Byers wrote on X: 'Shocked and devastated to hear the news of the deaths of Canadian businessman/visionary Daniel Langlois and his wife, Dominique Marchand. They built the incredible Coulibri Ridge resort on Dominica and had me for a tour and lunch in January. So sad.'

And fan Paul Chato added: 'Daniel Langlois has been found dead in the Dominican Republic. For those who are 3D animators, Langlois pioneered SoftImage 3D, the most advanced character animation software of its time. Reboot was produced with it as was the dinosaur in Jurassic Park. Sad.'

On November 3, the government of Dominica gave Langlois a 'Meritorious Service Award for his contributions to sustainable development and research projects,' as reported by Dominica News Online.

Langlois was a dual Canadian-Dominican citizen.

However, some analysts have cautioned that markets have been too quick to price in lower interest rates.

Conor McGregor has assessed his likely competition as he considers running for president in Ireland.

The UFC star has been outspoken in recent weeks about political issues following the stabbing of three children and a carer in Dublin. Riots subsequently broke out in the city when it was claimed the suspect was a foreigner as protestors sang anti-immigrant chants. McGregor's social media posts are being investigated by police for allegedly inciting hate.

McGregor has since accused the authorities of making him a scapegoat, tweeting: “Attempt to scapegoat me all you wish. If it makes you feel better, I will take it." He also released a statement in which he called on the government to act. “I am praying that the streets will remain calm and peaceful. We Irish are known for our beautiful hearts, and we have a proud history of not accepting racism," he said.

"I do strongly believe our leaders must address this issue head-on with serious policy reforms regarding Ireland’s immigration and refugee processes. This is not a time for debate and posturing, our elected leaders must act in the best interest of Ireland’s citizens and our beloved country’s future."

McGregor has often floated the idea of running for office but appears more serious in light of recent events. ‘We are out of money': White House pushes to pass stalled Ukraine aid

In letters Monday to party leaders in the House and Senate, White House budget chief Shalanda Young warned that inaction before the end of the year on a new round of funding threatens to “kneecap Ukraine on the battlefield.”

“I want to be clear: Without congressional action, by the end of the year we will run out of resources to procure more weapons and equipment for Ukraine and to provide equipment from U.S. military stocks,” wrote Young, director of the Office of Management and Budget. “There is no magical pot of funding available to meet this moment. We are out of money — and nearly out of time.”

Identical letters were sent to Speaker Mike Johnson, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.

It’s the latest warning from top officials as the administration presses to get President Joe Biden’s $61.4 billion emergency funding request for Ukraine across the finish line. The proposal is part of a $106 billion supplemental package Biden sent lawmakers in October for additional funding for Ukraine, Israel, the Pacific and the U.S.-Mexico border.

The White House push also comes as the Senate nears a major vote on the aid package. Schumer plans to hold a vote on Biden’s proposal this week in the Senate.

But Republicans in the House and Senate have insisted that further Ukraine money be paired with border security policy changes. A failure to coalesce around border provisions could quickly stall the funding.

Opposition to further funding for Kyiv has grown among House Republicans, another factor Johnson must navigate. The Louisiana Republican has also advocated splitting up aid to Ukraine and Israel, while Schumer and McConnell are aiming to approve a single comprehensive funding package.

Lawmakers have just a few weeks to forge a deal and get it to Biden’s desk before the end of the year. If congressional leaders shelve Ukraine aid until January, a new aid package could become wrapped up in a government funding fight that is set to kick off in the new year. But Young argued Congress can’t wait that long to turn the spigot back on.

“This isn’t a next year problem,” she argued. “The time to help a democratic Ukraine fight against Russian aggression is right now. It is time for Congress to act.”

As new funding has stalled on Capitol Hill, Young said that assistance to Ukraine has been depleted and weapons packages have been squeezed. Of previous tranches of Ukraine related funding lawmakers have approved, Young said that the Pentagon has used 97 percent of the $62.3 billion it had received as of mid-November, while the State Department has exhausted all of the $4.7 billion in security assistance money it was allocated.

“Already, our packages of security assistance have become smaller and the deliveries of aid have become more limited,” Young wrote. “If our assistance stops, it will cause significant issues for Ukraine.”

Young reiterated the administration’s argument that assisting Ukraine’s military prevents a broader war that could draw the U.S. into direct conflict with Russia if Vladimir Putin succeeds and then attacks a NATO country.

The letter also hammers an argument Biden and senior leaders have increasingly made to sell the tens of billions of dollars in Ukraine and Israel funding: It bolsters the U.S. economy and creates jobs.

Much of the money Congress has approved for Ukraine has never left the U.S., instead going to replenish the military’s inventories of weapons and equipment that were sent to Kyiv. Biden touted the funding to buy American-made hardware in an Oval Office address in October making the case for Ukraine and Israel aid

Biden’s latest security funding request would direct more than $50 billion into the defense industry, Young said, name-checking several states where air defense systems, missiles and artillery rounds are built.

“While we cannot predict exactly which U.S companies will be awarded new contracts, we do know the funding will be used to acquire advanced capabilities to defend against attacks on civilians in Israel and Ukraine — for example, air defense systems built in Alabama, Texas, and Georgia and vital subcomponents sourced from nearly all 50 states,” Young said.

The majority of funding already approved by Congress, she said, has gone to bolster the American defense industrial base or to support military and intelligence operations.

“That has improved our own military readiness since DOD is buying new equipment to replace what we are sending Ukraine, jumpstarting and expanding production lines, and is supporting good-paying jobs in dozens of states across the country,” Young wrote.

NY Lawmaker Claims "Smoking Gun" In NYC Migrant Voter Fraud Scheme

A New York state lawmaker says she's found 'smoking gun' evidence that New York City is trying to illegally register migrants to vote in upcoming elections.

"On page 50 of this contract, there is an entire section dedicated to voter registration," said Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY) on Sunday, after she and four other Staten Island Republicans claimed a city contract with a nonprofit hired to run a Staten Island shelter includes a stipulation that voter registration forms are to be distributed among asylum seekers.

"We believe this is the smoking gun that proves what we’ve been saying all along — that the city intends to register non-citizens to vote."
