Sen. Kevin Cramer's son charged with manslaughter in fatal police chase

He is slated to appear in court on Friday to face the manslaughter charge, as well as counts of fleeing a police officer, reckless endangerment, and driving with a suspended license.

North Dakota Republican Sen. Kevin Cramer's son was charged with manslaughter this week in connection with a fatal police chase.

Ian Cramer, 42, led police on a 70-mile chase after crashing a Chevrolet Tahoe through a hospital emergency room bay, that ultimately ended in his collision with a squad car, the Associated Press reported. The collision resulted in the death of a sheriff's deputy.

He is slated to appear in court on Friday to face the manslaughter charge, as well as counts of fleeing a police officer, reckless endangerment, and driving with a suspended license.

Cramer's mother on Wednesday drove him to the hospital due to reported mental health concerns, though he took control of the vehicle after she got out and initiated the chaotic pursuit.

Sen. Kramer's current pinned post on X dates from 2019 and reads "I'm a most blessed dad." He released a statement asking for prayers for the officer's family.

The use of an array of tactics to baffle the perception in conflict is not new, nor is the strategy confined to the human species.

Pentagon threatens Americans over Ukraine – Tucker Carlson

Fund Ukraine or your children will have to fight Russia, X host claims Congress was told

US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin reportedly told members of Congress thatunless they approve more funding to Ukraine, Americans will be sent to fight Russia directly, former Fox News host Tucker Carlson said on Thursday.

According to Carlson, Austin spoke at a classified briefing for members of the House of Representatives on Wednesday, and at one pointtold members that “we’ll send your uncles, cousins and sons to fight Russia”unless Kiev gets the $60 billion in aidrequested by the White House.

“The Biden administration is openly threatening Americans over Ukraine,” said Carlson said on X (formerly Twitter), summarizing Austin’s message as “Pay the oligarchs or we’ll kill your kids.”

“He really said this?” asked X owner Elon Musk.

“He really did. Confirmed,” Carlson replied.

Carlson was by far the most popular host of an evening talk show on cable TV when Fox News mysteriously chose to part ways with him in April. He has since speculated that its corporate owners “really didn’t like” some of his coverage that challenged official narratives. In May, he launched his own show on Musk’s platform in a format similar to his long-form interviews for Fox.

On Tuesday, his guest was Congressman Thomas Massie, a Kentucky Republican opposed to sending any more money to Ukraine – on account of the US being too heavily in debt.

“How could Washington possibly send tens of billions more to sleazy oligarchs in Ukraine now that the whole enterprise has been revealed as a fruitless, corrupt and incredibly destructive disaster?” Carlson wondered in the introduction to that interview.

The US Congress has approved over $120 billion worth of aid to Kiev since the conflict with Russia escalated in February 2022, in the form of weapons and ammunition coming from the Pentagon’s stockpiles as well as cash payments to the Ukrainian government.

That money has mostly run out at this point, and the White House has asked for $60 billion more – choosing to bundle it with aid for Israel, weapons for Taiwan and “border security.”Some Republicans in both the House and the Senate have refused to go along, however. GOP senators stormed out of their briefing on Wednesday and later voted against advancing the aid package.

Meanwhile,Republican chairs of the Foreign Affairs, Armed Services and Intelligence committees in the House of Representatives have embraced the White House talking pointsin a memo aiming to persuade their party members to back the Ukraine funding bill, according to Axios.

Federal Tax Filers Beware: Underpayment Penalty Has More Than Doubled

One of the Internal Revenue Service's fangs has quietly grown much sharper, as the interest rate charged on the underpayment of federal income taxes has soared from 3% to 8% in less than two years. If you're not sure if you're hitting the right pace, it's time to double-check your situation to make sure you don't throw any more money into Uncle Sam's rathole than you must.

While many taxpayers focus on the annual April deadline, the federal income tax actually works on a "pay as you go" basis, in which the government demands recurring bites out of your income, with those bites rising and and falling in proportion to what you're earning over the course of the tax year. If the math comes out wrong enough when you file, the IRS will penalize you by demanding you pay interest on money you were supposed to have forked out earlier.

In August, the IRS announced that the interest penalty charged against underpayments was rising to 8% for the calendar quarter that started Oct. 1. The rate isn't set on a bureaucrat's whim per the Internal Revenue Code, it's calculated each quarter by adding 3% to the "federal short-term rate." Thus, the higher rate is a reflection of the surge in interest rates. As recently as the first quarter of 2022 when the Fed's zero interest rate policy was still in place – the rate was just 3%. For the first three quarters of 2023, it was 7%.

Most people whose income is almost entirely derived from regular employment satisfy the pay-as-you-go system through the income tax that employers withhold from each paycheck. Assuming they've filled out their IRS W-4 forms correctly, those workers typically don't run afoul of underpayment penalties. However, regular employees who receive big bonuses or equity compensation might find the regular withholding formula doesn't cough up enough money to please the IRS. If you want to play with the numbers on your own, you might check out the IRS's online Tax Withholding Estimator – though ZeroHedge sure isn't guaranteeing its accuracy.

For many people, avoiding underpayment penalties requires making quarterly estimated tax payments directly to the IRS, or significantly adjusting their employee withholding. That's true of anyone with significant income from anything other than regular employment, including the self-employed, gig economy workers, and people with substantial investment income from things like interest, dividends and capital gains. Note: The 2023 surge in yields on money market funds and some bank accounts may cause a surprise underpayment penalty for those who'd grown accustomed to earning near-zero on their cash.

Owner of Philly restaurant targeted in Palestine protests is official Israeli govt propagandist and Biden ally

The Biden White House and top Democrats have denounced Palestine solidarity activists as antisemites for protesting outside an Israeli-owned restaurant in Philly. Its owner happens to be an official Israeli government propagandist with close ties to the Biden White House.

If powerful Democrats are to be believed, it was a night of shattered glass in Philadelphia, PA this December 3. Local Palestine solidarity activists calling for a ceasefire in a war that has left 16,000 civilians dead in the besieged Gaza Strip stopped for a few minutes outside an “Israeli-style” falafel shop and shouted chants accusing the business of supporting Israel’s ongoing massacre. Beyond leaving a few stickers on the restaurant’s windows, they did no damage and moved on.

The restaurant in question was not just some random mom-and-pop eatery that fell victim to an anti-Semitic pogrom. It is owned by celebrity chef Michael Solomonov, an Israeli government culinary ambassador who appears in Department of Justice Foreign Agent Registration Act documents as an official propagandist for the country’s Ministry of Tourism.

Solomonov is also a prominent campaigner for the Biden presidency. Since the full-scale war was launched this October, Solomonov’s restaurant group has been funneling money to the Israeli Defense Forces through a non-profit.

“Our protest was not organized around Goldie’s whatsoever. We were marching to call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire and made a brief 2-4 minute pit stop to call out Michael Solomonov’s complicity and financial support for an apartheid government. We also stopped at Starbucks to chant near identical chants,” Natalie Abulhawa, organizer with the Philadelphia Free Palestine Coalition, told The Grayzone. “The claims that we stopped by Goldie’s because of the owner’s religious beliefs are naive and dangerously untrue,” she said.

Abulhawa added that Solomonov’s fundraising was the real reason for the protest: “Our Jewish brothers and sisters were out there marching and chanting with us.”

Within hours of the protest, a chorus of Democratic Party elites chimed in to condemn the rally. The White House on Monday denounced the protesters outside of Philadelphia’s Goldie restaurant as “antisemitic and completely unjustifiable.” Douglas Emhoff, husband of Vice President Kamala Harris, spoke with the restaurant owner days later, telling him that President Biden, VP Harris, and the “entire Biden-Harris Administration will continue to have his back.” Emhoff went on to claim — without evidence — that protesters “yelled antisemitic chants.”

The trial comes after the judge in the case ruled in a partial summary judgment that Trump had submitted "fraudulent valuations" for his assets, leaving the trial to determine additional actions and what penalty, if any, the defendants should receive.

Biden approval rating hits new low

Even members of the president’s own party have urged him not to run for reelection as concerns about his fitness and the economy escalate

US President Joe Biden’s approval rating has hit rock bottom, according to a CNN poll published on Wednesday. Just 37% of Americans surveyed over the last month had a favorable view of the Democrat’s job performance.

While the president’s approval ratings never inched far above half the population by CNN’s count, topping out at 53% in April of 2021, his numbers have steadily declined since last December,driven by a dismal perception of his handling of the economythat has extended even into his own party, with 36% of Democrats taking a dim view of his economic policies, according to the poll.

These results reflected respondents’ overall pessimism regarding the nation’s financial fate -just 29% of those polled described the economy as “good”or “very good.” Even Democrats seemed to have trouble finding the silver lining in Bidenomics, with just 52% rating the economy positively.

Indeed, Americans' sense of impending fiscal doom appeared to hit an all-time high last month, with61% of those surveyed predicting somewhat or very poor economic conditionsa year into the future - the most pessimistic response since CNN’s pollster began asking the question in 1997.

The economy remained the primary issue occupying voters’ minds as it has throughout Biden’s presidency, with 42% rating financial matters as their chief concern. (Why only 42%?)

Despite Biden’s collapsing approval ratings,the Democrat has shown no sign of willingness to abdicate the Oval Office, appearing convinced he alone can defeat Republican frontrunner Donald Trump. “If Trump wasn’t running, I’m not sure I’d be running,” he reportedly told donors at a campaign event on Tuesday, declaring that Democrats “cannot let him win.”

Even David Axelrod, the former senior White House adviser for Barack Obama, strongly hinted last month that a Biden-Trump rematch would not end well for the Democrats, acknowledging that while Biden had the Democratic nomination if he wanted it, “what he needs to decide is whether that is wise, whether it’s in HIS best interest or the country’s.”

Axelrod subsequently clarified that he had not asked Biden to drop out of the race despite posting ominous poll numbers showing Trump leading the Democrat in five out of six critical swing states. A national The Economist/YouGov poll conducted last month similarly showed Trump in the lead, including among independent voters.

Axelrod’s misgivings prompted an outpouring of similar sentiments from hardcore never-Trumpers, including arch-neocon Bill Kristol urged the president to “pass the torch to the next generation.” The Iraq War architect framed Biden’s hypothetical departure from the race as “an act of personal sacrifice and public spirit.”

Biden would be 86 years old at the end of his second term, should he be reelected and survive that long.

Defense expert tells AG lawyer, 'You ought to be ashamed of yourself'

Donald Trump's accounting expert snapped at a lawyer for the New York attorney general after the lawyer suggested his opinion was bought by the defense team.

As accounting expert Eli Bartov was testifying about Trump's use of disclaimers in his financial statements, state attorney Kevin Wallace interjected, saying, "This is pure speculation from someone they hired to say whatever it is they want."

Still in the witness box, Bartov began yelling at Wallace about the comment as Trump sat watching a few feet away.

"You make up allegations that never existed," Bartov shouted. "I am here to tell the truth. You ought to be ashamed of yourself for talking like that."

Bartov, in his testimony, said that Trump's use of disclaimers functioned "just like the warning from the surgeon general on a box of cigarettes."

The accounting expert said that Trump's disclaimers clearly flagged to his lenders that they should conduct their own due diligence regarding the figures, rather than rely on them at face value. Witnesses from Deutsche Bank Trump's primary lender during the 2010s previously testified that they conducted due diligence and significantly undercut the valuations Trump provided in his financial statement when deciding to offer him loans.

"I never saw anything that is clearer than that," Bartov said about the language in Trump's disclaimer clause. "Even my nine-year-old granddaughter Emma would understand this language."

In his pretrial summary judgment ruling, Judge Engoron dismissed Trump's argument that disclaimer clauses protect him from allegations of fraud. While multiple defense witnesses have attempted to rebut Engoron's opinion about Trump's use of disclaimer clauses, the judge has signaled he stands by his opinion.

"My summary judgment is the law of the case on the legal effect of this paragraph or these sentences," Engoron said in response to Bartov's testimony, adding that the clauses "would not insulate the client."

Nevertheless, Trump attorney Chris Kise requested that Engoron reconsider his finding.

"I am fairly liberal in reconsidering my opinions," Engoron said before Bartov resumed his testimony.

Trump penthouse misstatement was not fraud, expert says

Donald Trump's overstatement of the value of his Trump Tower penthouse apartment was a mistake, according to accounting expert Eli Bartov – but not fraud.

"The price was inflated. There is no question about it," Bartov said about Trump more than doubling the value of his triplex apartment on his statement of financial condition, from $80 million to $180 million, between 2011 and 2012.

Bartov chalked up the mistake to the inevitable errors that occur in the process of compiling a statement of financial condition. He said that if Trump meant to commit fraud by inflating the value of his apartment, he would have made some effort to conceal it.

"There is no evidence here of concealment," Bartov said. "It's true this is an error. But it is no fraud."

Bartov instead blamed Trump's external accounting firm for failing to catch the obvious error.

"They submitted to him the supporting documents. Any person that had one year experience in auditing … will immediately see there is a jump from 80 million to 180 million," he said.

No merit to NY AG's complaint, defense expert says

The New York attorney general's civil fraud complaint against former President Trump lacks merit, a defense expert in accounting testified.

"My main finding is that there is no evidence whatsoever for any accounting fraud," New York University professor Eli Bartov said. "My analysis shows the statements of financial condition for all the years were not materially misstated."

Bartov's testimony bolstered the defense's contention that non-audited financial statements, like Trump's, are unreliable and represent only a first step in analysis.

"You cannot use the raw numbers in the statements as the basis for making decisions," Bartov said. "If you do that, you are likely to reach the wrong decision."

Judge Engoron asked Bartov whether the attorney general's complaint had no merit.

"This is absolutely my opinion," Bartov replied.

"And why is that?" defense attorney Jesus Suarez jumped in to ask.

(Bloomberg) – The super political action committee backing Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ presidential bid canceled a donor event this week due to a lack of interest from invitees, according to people familiar with the matter, the latest sign of the fresh tumult surrounding his 2024 run.

The group, Never Back Down, planned to hold a luncheon ahead of the fourth Republican primary debate in Tuscaloosa, Alabama — the site of the forum — according to the people who requested anonymity to discuss the cancellation. About 3,000 people were invited to purchase tickets.

A $10,000 contribution would have given donors access to the lunch, where the governor’s wife, Casey DeSantis, was scheduled to speak, as well as a ticket to the debate itself and an invite to a post-debate celebration with the governor, according to an invitation.

Days prior to Wednesday’s debate, Never Back Down decided to cancel the lunch. Scott Wagner, who leads the super PAC, cited a lack of interest as the explanation in his communication to the board, the people said.

One donor said he still attended an after-party following the debate, where the governor shook hands and took selfies with guests.

A spokesperson for Never Back Down did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Wagner also did not respond to a request for comment.

Similar events in Miami around the November Republican debate raised roughly $1 million for the super PAC. Those included a dinner for roughly 70 people with DeSantis and Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds, a lunch with DeSantis’ wife at the Mandarin Oriental, and a post-debate party for hundreds of donors.

The last-minute cancellation highlights DeSantis’ political struggles and signals a lack of enthusiasm among his financial backers. DeSantis entered the race as the best-funded and most buzzed about Republican alternative to former President Donald Trump, but infighting between his campaign and Never Back Down, overspending, and sliding poll numbers have dampened his momentum.

The canceled event comes shortly after Never Back Down underwent a leadership shakeup, which resulted in three top officials departing the organization within weeks. Wagner, one of DeSantis’ closest allies and a Miami-based attorney, took over the group earlier this month. TALLAHASSEE — A company owned by Craig Mateer, an Orlando entrepreneur, GOP megadonor and gubernatorial appointee, was paid $75,000 in September to provide travel to Gov. Ron DeSantis’ presidential campaign, federal campaign reports show.

That pales in comparison with the $1.6 million in travel expenses covered by a company associated with Scott Wagner, a South Florida lawyer and longtime friend of DeSantis who was reappointed to the South Florida Water Management District.

DeSantis has a well-documented track record of appointing big political donors to government positions where they preside over multimillion-dollar budgets, make spending and policy decisions, award contracts, and approve permits for development and water use.

“It’s exactly the kind of insider wheeling and dealing that goes on with our campaign finance system that should be illegal, but it’s not,” said Ben Wilcox, research director of the government watchdog group Integrity Florida.

DeSantis spokesman Jeremy Redfern declined to comment, referring campaign-related questions to the governor’s presidential campaign. Campaign officials and Mateer didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

An investigative report by the Miami Herald last October said DeSantis appointees raised more than $3 million to finance his reelection. The biggest donor at the time was Mateer at $400,000.

Since then, Mateer donated $1 million to the Republican Party of Florida in January. He donated the maximum allowed individual contribution of $6,600 to the governor’s presidential campaign. TMFB Management Services, a company he formed in June, received the two payments totaling $75,000 from the Ron DeSantis for President Committee.

Wagner surpassed that amount when he funneled $5.5 million to the DeSantis Never Back Down PAC through Faithful and Strong Policies Inc., which he set up in April. Weeks after he made the donation, DeSantis reappointed him to the South Florida Water Management District.

Quid pro quo behavior has become increasingly the norm under DeSantis, Wilcox said.

Two prime examples of it were the governor’s hand in taking over Disney’s special improvement district and New College of Florida, both with the Legislature’s help.

DeSantis replaced the Reedy Creek Improvement District’s board of directors with his own political allies and renamed it the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District.

DeSantis also replaced the board of Trustees at New College with political supporters, who named Richard Corcoran, a former House speaker and Department of Education chief, as interim president with a $1.3 million a year salary package.

On Monday, DeSantis appointed Ashley Bell Barnett to the Florida Board of Governors, which oversees the university system, after she donated the maximum amount of $6,600 to his presidential primary campaign and $20,000 to Never Back Down.

She is the daughter of state Rep. Melony Bell and daughter-in-law of former Publix Vice President Hoyt Barnett and the late Carol Jenkins Barnett. The latter is the daughter of Publix founder George Jenkins.

Other political appointees who have donated money or provided transportation to DeSantis campaigns include Daytona Beach developer Mori Hosseini, a longtime supporter of DeSantis who donated the maximum individual amount of $6,600 to his primary campaign, in addition to $1 million donated by four of his companies to Never Back Down, which can accept unlimited amounts of money from individuals or businesses.

DeSantis appointed Hosseini to the University of Florida Board of Trustees.

First Coast Energy, one of the largest distributors of Shell gasoline in the United States and a major donor to DeSantis’ reelection campaign, gave Never Back Down $350,000. First Coast CEO Aubrey Edge and his wife each gave DeSantis the maximum $6,600 allowed for the primary.

DeSantis appointed Edge to the Board of Governors in 2020.

Mateer, who attended Florida State University on a basketball scholarship, is the founder and CEO of CCM Capital Group, a provider of hospitality, real estate and logistics services.

He also founded the luggage handling business Bags Inc., which he sold for $275 million in 2018 after 30 years of owning it.

DeSantis named Mateer to the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority in March 2021 and to the Florida Board of Governors a year later.

“These corporate donors are making investments in politicians, hoping for something in return,” Wilcox said. “They may be ideologically simpatico with the candidate but it goes with the basic desire to gain some position or contract.

“They’re not investing in good government but in government being good to them,” Wilcox said.

America faces a crisis on almost every front.

The problems we face – open borders, unsustainable debt, a struggling economy, lack of energy security, and an increasingly volatile world did not just happen. Joe Biden’s ineptitude created them.

The cause of our problems is as clear as the solution.

I proudly endorse Donald Trump for President because he has a clear record of success and a vision for moving America into the future.

This country will not survive four more years of a Joe Biden and Kamala Harris administration.

Families are unable to keep up with the inflation caused by the Democrats’ out-of-control spending.

Data compiled by Congress’ Joint Economic Committee found that inflation is costing the average Florida household an extra $1,078 a month.

The White House responds to this by telling you not to believe your lying eyes and that “Bidenomics is working.” Apparently, everything is going to plan when the cost of groceries is up 25%.

Fortunately, the country doesn’t buy Mr. Biden’s lies. Polling from Bloomberg shows the majority of voters agree with me and trust President Donald Trump to fix Mr. Biden’s economic disaster.

The Trump presidency brought us the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, the largest tax overhaul in decades, which cut taxes for 82% of American households.

President Trump also stood up for American farmers and manufacturers and renegotiated awful trade deals like NAFTA, which Joe Biden supported, and gutted American industry in favor of foreign producers.

Likewise, President Trump respected American sovereignty and understood that weak immigration policies encourage illegal immigrants to attempt to cross our border. Joe Biden, on the other hand, has told illegal immigrants not to worry about being deported. He’s even said that a DUI should not be the basis for deportation.
