Israel approves sale of world’s first lab-grown beef

The cultivated ‘Black Angus Petit Steak’ will be introduced later this year

An Israeli company has received preliminary approval from the government to sell the world’s first steaks made from cultivated beef cells, the country’s Health Ministry announced this week.

The ministry said the approval was part of a pilot program for alternative protein carried out by the Department of Food Risk Management. It also cited the growing global demand for “products of non-living origin,” adding it is working to approve alternative food sources. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called the development “a global breakthrough” and “important news for food security, environmental protection, and concern for animals.”

Aleph Farms, which was granted the go-ahead, will make the beef from cells derived from a fertilized egg from a cow named Lucy, a Black Angus that lives on a California farm. However, it could take months before the product is served to diners as regulators must still approve the company’s labels and conduct a final inspection.

“Addressing common challenges such as food security will be the best way to ensure the prosperity of the Middle East region, as well as other regions around the world that are significantly dependent on food imports, with an emphasis on Asia,” Aleph Farms CEO Didier Toubia was quoted as saying by the Times of Israel.

Creating cultivated, or ‘cell-cultured’ meat, also known as lab-grown meat, could help reduce the environmental impacts of conventional meat production, proponents claim. However, producing such meat on a large scale would mean high costs, experts indicate.

If it said it in the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, then that was a fact. Nowadays, people can go to all sorts of different sources for the news, and they’re much more questioning about what we’re saying. So it’s no longer good enough for us just to say, this is what happened, or this is the news we have to explain, almost like explain our working. So readers expect to understand how we source stories. They want to know how we go about getting stories. We have to sort of lift the bonnet, as it were, and in a way that newspapers aren’t used to doing, and explain to people what we’re doing. We need to be much more transparent about how we go about collecting the news.

WHO director calls for worldwide pandemic treaty to prepare for ominous 'Disease X'

The head of the World Health Organization has called on countries to sign the health organization's pandemic treaty to prepare the world for a "Disease X," an undesignated term for a future pandemic that could be more deadly than anything humanity has faced.

Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus spoke at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Wednesday, noting that he hoped nations across the world would reach a pandemic agreement by May to address a future danger, according to the New York Post. Scientists have speculated that "Disease X" could be up to 20 times more deadly than COVID-19.

Ghebreyesus said COVID-19 was the first Disease X, and that it will be important for countries around the world to be better prepared for the next one that comes around. The WHO added that the moniker "represents the knowledge that a serious international epidemic could be caused by a pathogen currently unknown to cause human disease."

USA Today reported that in 2018, the WHO added "Disease X" to its list of priority diseases and pathogens specifically targeted for research. The plan includes diseases such as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome and Ebola, and its aim is to “fast-track the availability of effective tests, vaccines and medicines” that could save lives during a serious health emergency.

“There are things that are unknown that may happen, and anything happening is a matter of when, not if, so we need to have a placeholder for that, for the diseases we don’t know,” Ghebreyesus said.

“We lost many people [during COVID] because we couldn’t manage them,” Ghebreyesus added. “They could have been saved, but there was no space. There was not enough oxygen. So how can you have a system that can expand when the need comes?”

Ghebreyesus went on to suggest that the best way to prepare for such a possibility would be to get a treaty drafted that countries can get behind.

“The pandemic agreement can bring all the experience, all the challenges that we have faced and all the solutions into one,” Ghebreyesus said. “That agreement can help us to prepare for the future in a better way.”

“This is a common global interest, and very narrow national interests should not come into the way.”

It is uncertain how many countries plan to sign the treaty.

Watch: Joy Reid Argues That Books With Rape And Pedophilia Should Be In Schools

In a remarkable exchange, MSNBC host Joy Reid took a break from her race obsessed ranting to advocate for books containing rape, pedophilia and incest to be made available for school kids as young as six.

Reid brought on Moms for Liberty Founder Tiffany Justice and asked her what makes her an authority to say that such material shouldn’t be allowed in schools, while the chyron on the screen claimed Justice is pushing to “ban books”.

Reid, still sporting a ridiculous blonde wig, defended the book “All Boys Aren’t Blue,” which contains descriptions of incest, anal rape, and strap-on dildos, among other things. The host claimed that some passages from the book that have been read out be outraged parents at school board meeting have been taken “out of context.”

“In what context is a strap-on dildo acceptable for public school?” Justice asked Reid, adding “Tell me the context around the strap-on dildo or the rape of a minor child by a teacher?”

Reid charged that Justice is not an “expert” on the material.

Justice shot back, “I don’t need to be an expert to know that dildos aren’t appropriate content for public school.”

“Maybe we could just put all the books with all the graphic sexual content, the dildos, the rape, the incest– let’s do a backroom,” Justice continued, adding “Let’s put a curtain up in the library like they used to do at video stores.”

Reid continued to argue in favour of the material in schools, asking “Why is it your right, or a Mom’s for Liberty activist’s right, to say that a parent who wants their child to have access to this book which gives a personal experience of this author… Why doesn’t a liberal parent, for instance or a parents of an LGBTQ kid, why don’t they have a right for their child to just have access to this book? Why is it your right to say they can’t?”

Justice again responded that the book describes rape and pedophilia in graphic detail, yet Reid argued that parents have a right to “decide what is appropriate for their child to read.”

After the interview, Reid brought on her friends to slate Justice, with Ali Velshi sardonically stating “I took notes. I’ve never taken a note of an interview in my life, but there was so much to keep up with there.”

He further remarked, “She liked to say the word ‘dildo.’ Said that a lot.”

The Corporate Media and Big Tech Interfered in the 2020 Election, and ‘Breaking the News’ Provides Undeniable Proof

Before a single vote was cast, the 2020 election was baked into the cake. America’s political and media establishment were not going to let what happened to them in 2016 happen again.

Don’t take my word for it. TIME Magazine published an article in February of 2021 called “The Secret History of the Shadow Campaign That Saved the 2020 Election” which describes a vast effort by a network of partisan political operatives, union leaders, and business titans to create a mail ballot “revolution” to oust Trump.

This is, quite literally, a plan hatched by a highly motivated and well-funded few to undermine American democracy as we know it.

Yet, it is not well understood exactly what the American left did and how they pulled it off, and scarier still, how much of it is still legal to this day.

And, oh yes, they are going to use the same playbook again in 2024.

Telling the true story of the 2020 election was one of the most critical sections of my New York Times bestselling book Breaking the News, which was re-released this week (with new material) for the 2024 election year.

In the aftermath of the 2020 election, Trump supporters distracted themselves with far-fetched conspiracy and other unprovable theories that voting systems (allegedly developed by Hugo Chavez in Venezuela, or owned by Communist China, or serviced by a company called Dominion) flipped the exact number of votes necessary to beat Trump. All of that was a non-sensical waste of time.

Yet, the election was manipulated in two critical ways: First, the government dishonestly used the coronavirus pandemic to make wholesale changes to our voting rules that made it easier for Democrats to amass ballots; and second, the establishment media combined with the Silicon Valley Masters of the Universe swamped the public with misinformation and impaired voter’s access to true information, leaving them distracted and misinformed. Together, this is what delivered the election for Joe Biden.

I cover each of the two major manipulations extensively in Breaking the News, but I will share some crucial details here.

In Breaking the News, I list a number of statistical anomalies surrounding Joe Biden’s victory against Donald Trump. Aside from getting a record number of votes for an incumbent president, Donald Trump also saw his support rise with blacks and Hispanics; he won the traditional bellwether states of Iowa, Ohio, and Florida (all by greater margins than the polls predicted); and he won a stunning 83 percent of American counties. The list goes on.

So, how did he lose?

The answer is what became known as “cheat by mail,” and there is no individual who was a bigger part of this plot than Mark Zuckerberg. (More on his role momentarily).

Davos Globalist Demands Worldwide ‘Coordinated System of Carbon Taxes’ at WEF Summit

The climate change agenda can only be fully if international carbon taxes are implemented on the global population, Saudi Arabian Finance Minister Mohammed Al-Jadaan proclaimed at the World Economic Forum meeting this week.

During a panel discussion on the “Global Economic Outlook” on Friday during the annual WEF meeting in the Swiss ski resort town of Davos, Al-Jadaan argued that in order to solve the supposed climate crisis, a global carbon tax will be required.

“There is no realistic solution to the climate transition that does not involve a globally coordinated system of carbon taxes,” the Saudi politician said.

Al-Jadaan rejected the notion that such a system would hit the poor and developing nations the hardest, by hindering industrial growth and spurring inflation, arguing that such countries will face even worse outcomes if climate change is not prevented by international intervention.

“There’s a perception that it’s unjust, it’s unfair, it will lead to inflation. In fact, quite the contrary. If we don’t do this, the countries that will suffer most ultimately are the developing countries. They’re going to be the worst affected by climate change,” he said.

“What we need is a system of carbon taxes coupled with subsidies for developing households and a stream of funding for the developing world, to allow them to engage in investments and mitigations and adaption that allows them to keep growing. And that’s a real opportunity,” Al-Jadaan continued.

“It’s a fair solution and it’s the only realistic solution, and we can’t keep ducking it,” he concluded.

The notion of imposing an international tax on emissions has been gaining ground within globalist circles. For example, at the United Nation’s COP28 climate summit in Dubai last month, French President Emmanuel Macron and Kenyan President William Ruto called for a global carbon tax system to be implemented within the next two years.

The two leaders said that such a system would start with targeting global financial transactions and extend to air and sea transport. The taxes raised would be directed to countries in Africa and other developing nations to mitigate the alleged impacts of climate change.

“It’s a necessity if we want a real result because we need to raise more money to finance our fight against inequalities and for the climate,” Macron said.

Macron’s proposal was backed by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who said during her COP28 address that in order to meet the goals of the globalist green agenda: “More is needed… We have to move from billions to trillions.”

The EU president also called for the expansion of carbon pricing, a key component of the European Green Deal that levies taxes on emissions to pressure businesses to lower their so-called carbon footprint. The German politician claimed that over the past two decades, the EU has taken in 175 billion euros in tax on private companies to direct towards green policies.

In addition to calls for an international carbon tax system, this year’s WEF meeting in Davos also heard demands for the International Criminal Court to recognise “ecocide” as a crime and punish those allegedly guilty of damaging the environment — potentially including fishermen and farmers — alongside war criminals at The Hague.

Multiple studies have found that people are testing positive for HIV after being vaccinated with Covid mRNA shots, a leading expert has warned.

Incidentally, two years ago, Zelenskyy declared that Russia was preparing a Maidan and a coup d’état with the participation of oligarch Rinat Akhmetov. At the time, it was a perfect pretext to eliminate undesirables.

And what Zelenskyy said two years ago, this week, he repeated verbatim, only without Akhmetov. It seems the presidential office is skimping on scripts and feeding the president old texts. Since nothing new has been invented, Zelenskyy stated that Moscow is preparing a new Maidan and a coup d’état.

However, Russia should not even be a part of this mess. Ukrainian oligarch clans are perfectly capable of dividing society and causing chaos in the country on their own. Ukraine is used to Maidans as they traditionally take place every ten years or so.

The tight rule of oligarchs has always characterized the Ukrainian democracy, others with ties to the West, some with ties to Russia. A man accused of killing four workers at an Oklahoma marijuana farm had demanded the return of his $300,000 investment in the operation shortly before he started shooting, prosecutors allege in court documents.

Chen Wu, 45, was charged Friday in Kingfisher County with four counts of first-degree murder and one count of assault and battery with a deadly weapon in connection with the Nov. 20 killings.

Wednesday’s arguments were all about whether the Supreme Court should do away with the unworkable Chevron deference.

The United States Supreme Court heard oral arguments in two companion cases, Relentless Inc. v. U.S. Dept. of Commerce and Loper Bright v. Raimondo on Wednesday.The bottom-line question before the court concerned whether Congress authorized the Department of Commerce to charge fishing businesses the costof government-mandated observers on their rigs.

But answering that question requires the Supreme Court to first decide whether to overturn the landmark case of Chevron v. Natural Resources Defense Council, the namesake for the Chevron doctrine, which requires courts to defer to an agency’s interpretation of an ambiguous statute so long as the agency’s interpretation is “reasonable.”That’s what Wednesday’s arguments were all about — Chevron and whether the Supreme Court should do away with Chevron deference.

Here are your top takeaways from the hours-long arguments.

1. What Does Chevron Deference Mean?

A blackletter law definition of Chevron deference is easy to provide. As noted above, it is a legal principle that requires courts to defer to an agency’s reasonable interpretation of an ambiguous statute.But Wednesday’s hearing showed the contours of the doctrine are far from clear, with the justices jousting with the solicitor general, who represents the Department of Commerce, over the meaning of “ambiguous.”

A statute is “ambiguous,” Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar said, “when the court has exhausted the tools of interpretation and hasn’t found a single right answer.” But asJustice Gorsuch notedin response, just the prior year, agovernment attorney claimed he could not define “ambiguous.”

The meaning of “ambiguous” is key to the doctrine of Chevron deference, which requires two steps. At step one, a court is to “employ[] traditional tools of statutory construction” to determine “whether Congress has directly spoken to the precise question at issue.” According to Chevron, “[i]f the intent of Congress is clear, that is the end of the matter,” and the court must enforce the clear meaning.” But if “the statute is silent or ambiguous with respect to the specific issue,” then the court proceeds to step two, which requires the court to defer to an agency’s interpretation so long as it reflects a “permissible construction of the statute.”

So defining “ambiguous” matters, several of the justices stressed, pointing to the confusion of the lower courts on the question —something that would justify overturning Chevron.

2. Justice Kavanaugh Was a Star

Heading into Wednesday, court watchers knew three justices had already expressed disagreement with Chevron, including Justices Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, and Brett Kavanaugh. To date, Gorsuch has made some of the most resounding attacks on Chevron deference. And while Gorsuch landed some blows during oral argument, it wasKavanaugh who seemed to throw haymaker after haymaker.

Kavanaugh returned to ground zero — the Chevron decision — and pushed the solicitor general on what he saw as“an internal inconsistency in Chevron itself.”

“It related to footnote 9,” he explained. That footnote provides that “the judiciary is the final authority onissues of statutory construction and must reject administrative constructionswhich are contrary to clear congressional intent.” Accordingly, the Chevron court continued, “[i]f a court, employing traditional tools of statutory construction, ascertains that Congress had an intention on the precise question at issue, that intention is the law and must be given effect.”

Referencing that footnote, Kavanaugh continued, “if you use all the traditional tools of statutory interpretation, you’ll get an answer,” and therefore, there is no step two and no deference. And we know you get an answer, the Trump appointee stressed, “because, in cases where we don’t have an agency involved and we use those same traditional tools, we get an answer.”

Kavanaugh reiterated that point several times throughout the argument, namely that courts interpret statutes regularly, both ambiguous and unambiguous ones, implying that if judges did the tough work of statutory interpretation, there would be no step two deference required.

3. Stakes Are Enormous

Another notable theme from Wednesday wasthe effect of reversing Chevron.

Soon after arguments in Relentless began, Justice Elena Kagan monopolized the questioning by peppering the fishing company’s attorney with hypotheticals. What was most striking, though, were not the difficult scenarios posed, but her assertion that “the court is very rarely in the situation in which you’re talking where it thinks the law means X and instead it says Y,” because of deference under Chevron. “If it thinks it means X, under Chevron, as we’ve understood it and made clear and reigned it in a little bit over these last few years, it’s supposed to say X,” Kagan continued. Chevron really only applies, the Obama appointee suggested, when the “law runs out” and “there’s a genuine ambiguity.”

Kagan’s efforts to portray Chevron as a tie-breaker contrasted sharply with the sky-is-falling arguments the government presented. Overruling Chevron would “shock” “the legal system,” the solicitor general argued in her opening comments to the court. Yet later in her argument, she too seemingly acknowledged that many of the cases are resolved at the first step of Chevron, meaning deference is not even required.Under these circumstances, it is difficult to take seriously the worst-case-scenario prognosespresented by Chevron’s champions.

4. Congress Needs to Do Its Damn Job

Another common theme pushed, especially by Kagan, concerned thequestion of “who decides?” If there is an ambiguity, Kagan posed several times, do we want the agency or the courts to make the policy decision?

The correct answer, however, is neither: Congress should make policy decisionsand draft statutes that provide clarity on the law. When Congress delegates authority to administrative agencies, such authority should similarly be clear.

Chevron deference has allowed Congress for far too long to avoid making tough calls, and while some of the justices seemed fine with that approach, it is inconsistent with our constitutional structure.

5. Stare Decisis

The prudential principle of stare decisis also featured heavily in oral arguments, with the government arguing it cuts against overturning the Chevron doctrine. Businesses need certainty, thesolicitor general argued, and overturning Chevron would destroy the predictability of the law. (What predictability? It seems every court applies the law to what they think it means, hence the need for the SC)

On the contrary, the fishing businesses’ attorneys stressed,what creates uncertainty is Chevron deference, which allows for each new administration to reverse prior regulations. Several justices seemed to share that viewpoint as well. Further, as several of the justices noted, the unworkability of a legal rule can justify its reversal, notwithstanding stare decisis — and several of the exchanges on Wednesdayshowed Chevron deference, in its current iteration, is unworkable.

6. Oh, the Humility!

Another key exchange originated when Kagan pushed Paul Clement, attorney for the fishermen in Loper Bright, on humility.

Chevron is a doctrine of humility, Kagan began, noting that in that doctrine the court “recognize[s] that there are some places where congressional direction has run out, and we think Congress would have wanted the agency to do something rather than the courts.”

“We accept that because that’s the best reading of Congress and also becausewe know in our heart of hearts that Congress — that agencies know things that courts do not,” she continued. (Where did she her law degree a DEI school?)

On top of that, Kagan noted that overturning Chevron conflicted with the principle of stare decisis — another doctrine of humility — which, as she put it, says “we don’t willy-nilly reverse things unless there’s a special justification.” Then came her talking point: “And you’re saying blow up one doctrine of humility, blow up another doctrine of humility, and then expect anybody to think that the courts are acting like courts.” (Wow she really doesn’t want this overturned, not because she believes the mish mash she made up, but because it will reign in the Administrative State, and the Agencies are not legal because they are not one of three agencies the Constitution dictated.)

Kagan’s comments suggest she sought to sell Chevron to her fellow justicesbased on concerns over institutional integrity, while implying a vote tooverturn that landmark case could only come from hubris.

Gorsuch, who filled the vacancy on the court left by Justice Antonin Scalia’s death andwas having none of Kagan’s argument, called on his predecessor’s name in retort: “One lesson of humility is [to] admit when you’re wrong. Justice Scalia, who took Chevron, which nobody understood to include this two-step move as originally written, turned it into what we now know, and late in life, he came to regret that decision.”

7. Predictions

From oral argument,Gorsuch and Kavanaugh seem definite votes for reversing Chevron deference. Thomas, given his past writings, seems a likely vote for reversal. In one exchange, Justice Samuel Alito seemed to mirror much of Kavanaugh’s thinking, namely that the courts already interpret statutes in other areas, and can do so here too, without needing to defer to agencies.

Both Justices Roberts and Barrett were more coy in their questioning, creating uncertainty about their positions. Conversely Kagan, Sotomayor, and Jackson all favored the Chevron framework.

Bottom line:There is no sure-fire forecast of the outcome. But something Gorsuch said might provide the best insight into the likely result.

During one exchange, the solicitor general suggested that the court merely reiterate to the lower courts the importance of undertaking a robust step-one inquiry.Gorsuch pointedly protestedthat the court had already on multiple occasions reminded the lower courts of their responsibility under Chevron to conduct an extensive analysis of the statute to resolve the question prior to deferring to the agencies.What good is another reminder likely to do?

President Trump plans to sign an executive order Wednesday that defines Judaism as a nationality and not just a religion — in an effort to combat anti-Semitism on college campuses, according to the White House.

In the order, the president is expected to tell the Department of Education to consider the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s definition of anti-Semitism when evaluating discrimination complaints under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act.

That definition says anti-Semitism may include “targeting of the state of Israel.”

Title VI prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color and national origin at colleges and universities that receive federal funding.

Defining Jewish people also as an ethnic group allows the government to consider discrimination against them as a violation of a key civil rights law, which means schools could lose federal funding if they fail to fight discrimination against Jewish students.

“There’s been a lot of unclarity surrounding the application of Title VI to Jewishness, basically, because of a question of about whether Jewishness is primarily a religion — in which case Title VI would not apply to anti-Semitic discrimination — or whether it’s a race or national origin,” a senior administration official told reporters, the Washington Post reported.

“This EO will clarify that Title VI applies to anti-Semitism,” the official added.

Another official insisted the order was not intended to limit freedom of expression and was not aimed at suppressing the boycott, divestment, sanctions movement, known as BDS, which aims to “end international support for Israel’s oppression of Palestinians” and boycott Israel for its activities in the West Bank and Gaza.

The Israeli government has urged allies to rein in the boycott movement, while its supporters deny anti-Semitism charges and describe themselves as critical of Israeli decision-making, not Jews.

A third official said the order is a response to a rise in the number of anti-Semitic incidents on campuses and would mean that Jewish students who face religious discrimination have the same kind of recourse as black students who face racism.

Jared Kushner, the president’s son-in-law and a senior White House adviser, pushed for the executive order, according to the New York Times, which first reported about the executive order.

Reports of the order drew widespread reaction from Jewish groups.

The Simon Wiesenthal Center welcomed the order, tweeting that it “sends a global message at a time of surging #antisemitism on both sides of Atlantic.”

Israeli Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz called on other countries to follow the Trump administration’s lead, according to CNN.

“These are significant steps in the ongoing fight against antisemitism and the BDS movement on college campuses,” Katz said in a statement.

But Jeremy Ben-Ami, who heads the progressive Jewish advocacy group J Street, argued that the order was designed to have a “chilling effect on free speech and to crack down on campus critics of Israel” rather than fight anti-Semitism.

“We feel it is misguided and harmful for the White House to unilaterally declare a broad range of nonviolent campus criticism of Israel to be anti-Semitic, especially at a time when the prime driver of anti-Semitism in this country is the xenophobic, white nationalist far-right,” he said in a statement.
