Peter expected that king Charles of Sweden was going to attack and thought that he could spare no forces. In the opinion of Mazepa, this blatantly violated the Treaty of Pereyaslav, since Russia refused to protect Ukraine's territory and left it to fare on its own. As the Swedish and Polish armies advanced towards Ukraine, Mazepa allied with them on 28 October 1708. However, only 3,000 Cossacks followed their Hetman, with the rest remaining loyal to the Tsar.

It was from that moment that King Charles XII of Sweden granted Mazepa the right to use the colors of the Swedish military bandera (yellow and blue) as the insignia of the Cossack detachments led by Mazepa, later these would be the colors of the Flag of Ukraine.

‘South Park’ to Return in 2025; Creators Are Skipping Election ‘on Purpose,’ Avoiding Trump Jokes and Also ‘Waiting for Paramount to Figure Their S— Out’

 

“South Park” creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone revealed in a new interview with Vanity Fair that their long-running animated series will not return until 2025, which means “South Park” will be skipping the 2024 presidential election between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris. The duo said the delay is somewhat “on purpose” because they no longer have an interest in lampooning Trump on the show, but Parker added that they’re also “waiting for Paramount to figure all their shit out.”

 

Neither creator specified on what Parker meant about Paramount, but the studio has been going through a proposed sale over the last several months. Paramount Global is currently pending sale to Skydance after the two companies reached a sale agreement in early July worth a reported $8 billion. Skydance claims the deal has an enterprise value of $28 billion, with Skydance itself valued at $4.75 billion.

 

As for skipping the 2024 presidential election on purpose, Stone noted: “We’ve tried to do ‘South Park’ through four or five presidential elections, and it is such a hard thing to — it’s such a mind scramble, and it seems like it takes outsized importance.”

 

“Obviously, it’s fucking important, but it kind of takes over everything and we just have less fun.” Parker added. “I don’t know what more we could possibly say about Trump.”

 

“South Park’s” last proper season was its 26th, and it consisted of six episodes that aired in 2023. Since then, Parker and Stone have created three standalone specials that streamed exclusively on Paramount+ starting last fall: “South Park: Joining the Panderverse,” “South Park (Not Suitable for Children)” and “South Park: The End of Obesity.” The latter special, which targeted weight loss drugs such as Ozempic, streamed in May 2024. That will be the last bit of “South Park” until 2025 it now seems.

Father of Georgia high school shooting suspect arrested

 

The father of Colt Gray, the teen suspect in the Apalachee High School shooting, has been arrested, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced Thursday.

 

Colin Gray, 54, is being charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second degree murder and eight counts of cruelty to children, GBI said.

 

His son, a student at Apalachee High School, allegedly killed four people, two students and two teachers, when he opened fire at the school in Winder, Georgia, on Wednesday morning. Nine others were wounded and hospitalized, but they were all expected to survive. Hospital officials said Thursday that at least seven of those nine patients had been treated and released, and at least one other remained hospitalized in stable condition.

 

Police and federal agents were investigating if the weapon used in the shooting, described by officials as an AR-style weapon, was purchased by the teen's father as a gift for his son in December 2023, according to four federal law enforcement sources close to the investigation.

 

In May of last year, the suspect and his father were both interviewed by the Jackson County Sheriff's office after the FBI received tips about online posts threatening a school shooting, the FBI said in a statement Wednesday night. At the time, investigators didn't have enough evidence for an arrest or enough probable cause "to take any additional law enforcement action," the FBI said.

Wow, that is going way too far, it's not like his father told his son to do something like this, it was a tragedy, but why ruin another innocent life in the process? How was his father supposed to know this would happen? This seems like the government now wants to prosecute family members of criminals too. So if your son smoked some pot and you didn't have anything to do with it, are you liable too now?

​​​​​​​It's Spreading: America's Top Oil Field Terrorized By Armed Venezuelan Gangs

 

It's only going to get worse from here, as the Biden-Harris administration's disastrous open border policies have now come to a 'neighborhood near you' (for some of you). In the past week, we saw armed Venezuelan prison gang Tren de Aragua members terrorize the northern Denver suburb of Aurora and other sanctuary cities run by far-left Democrats. New concerns out Thursday afternoon indicate critical infrastructure is now under threat from migrant cartel members.

 

According to Libs of TikTok, a Texas-based oil/gas company issued a memo to employees informing them that police and the FBI have warned armed Cuba and Venezuela migrant gangs are committing thefts in the Permian Basin (America's highest producing oil field).

 

Here's the memo:

 

Industry peers and law enforcement in West Texas (WTX) are aware of a recent increase in organized criminal activity inclusive of violent crimes, gang activity and oil field thefts in and around WTX operational areas. Specifically, regional law enforcement and the FBI advised that gang members emanating from Cuba and Venezuela are organizing and working in concert to commit thefts within the Permian Basin. These individuals and groups are armed, violent in nature and will not hesitate to use force.

 

Crimes associated with these groups include the theft of oil, diesel fuel, copper wire, and catalyst elements. Recent incidents have also included two assaults by water haulers who were attempting to steal oil from WTX oilfield sites. After the thieves were observed by witnesses who drove up to investigate, the thieves attempted to use their vehicles to run the witnesses off the road. In another incident, a thief, acting as a spotter and following a water hauler who had stolen oil, also attempted to run a witness off the road. There have been numerous reports of second vehicles acting as spotters for water haulers committing oil thefts.

it is not the first time they have done this. Why is the father being arrested if the child is being charged as an adult. Thought they were old enough to understand what they were doing on their own unless you want to charge conspiracy between the two and their was an actual plot to do harm. Doubtful, so yes this is an over reach by the justice system yet again, unless they can show the father had influence but then needs to be charged as a minor and by mischarging they have already fucked the kid up because he can not get a fair trial.

Verizon Communications announced a $20 billion deal to acquire rival telecommunications operator Frontier Communications Parent Inc., the US's largest pure-play fiber internet provider. The announcement follows a Wednesday report from The Wall Street Journal suggesting that Verizon was nearing a deal, sparking a 38% surge in Frontier's shares in New York.

 

Verizon said Frontier investors will receive $38.50 per share in cash, representing a 43.7% premium to Frontier's 90-day volume-weighted average share price on Tuesday, the last pure trading day before media reports leaked a potential acquisition of Frontier.

Chase Bank Issues Fraud Warning After ATM Glitch Videos Spread Online

 

Over Labor Day weekend, videos appeared on TikTok and other social media platforms allegedly showing people depositing fraudulent checks written for large sums of money at Chase Bank ATMs. They would then make a withdrawal for a significant amount, believing they discovered a glitch that allowed them to get free money.

 

However, a spokesperson for Chase Bank said those people were likely committing fraud and that the issue was resolved. The bank also warned customers not to mimic what they’ve seen on the internet.

“We are aware of this incident, and it has been addressed,” a Chase spokesperson told The Epoch Times in an emailed statement on Tuesday.

 

“Regardless of what you see online, depositing a fraudulent check and withdrawing the funds from your account is fraud, plain and simple,” the spokesperson added.

 

The bank did not respond to a question about whether it is investigating the videos or whether law enforcement is involved, and it’s unknown how many Chase customers attempted to make such withdrawals.

 

“Check kiting. It’s called check kiting. And it’s been around since the invention of … checks,” Cornell University law professor Dan Awrey wrote on X, responding to videos depicting the alleged fraudulent activity.

 

Check kiting, considered a form of check fraud, is when a person tries to cover “a bad check from one bank account to another,” says the Cornell Law School on its website. People with several accounts can take advantage of this because it takes several days to process checks, it adds.

 

“Banks will usually resolve issues of check swapping, or the exchange of checks between two bank accounts, without prosecuting the kiters. When the scheme involves payment to a third party, however, banks must prosecute,” says the Department of Justice research paper.

 

Advice From Finance Professionals

Jim Wang, a financial educator who operates the website WalletHacks.com, said in multiple social media posts that some people who attempt to bilk the bank out of money could have their accounts placed on hold.

 

“The people that were doing this were seeing big holes in their accounts or huge negative balances,” Wang said on Instagram. “Bank errors in your favor are almost never in your favor. In the case of this ‘glitch,’ it was just check fraud.”

 

If a large sum of money shows up in a person’s bank account, that person should tell their bank right away, he advised.

 

“Just because money appears in your account, doesn’t mean it’s literally yours,” Wang said. “If you spend it and are forced to pay it back, you’re going to have to figure out a way to pay it back.”

==Accusations of US Regime-Change Operations in Pakistan and Bangladesh Warrant UN Attention

The very strong evidence of the U.S. role in toppling the government of Imran Khan in Pakistan raises the likelihood that something similar may have occurred in Bangladesh.

 

Two former leaders of major South Asian countries have reportedly accused the United States of covert regime change operations to topple their governments. One of the leaders, former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, languishes in prison, on a perverse conviction that proves Khan’s assertion. The other leader, former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheik Hasina, fled to India following a violent coup in her country. Their grave accusations against the U.S., as reported in the world media, should be investigated by the UN, since if true, the U.S. actions would constitute a fundamental threat to world peace and to regional stability in South Asia.

 

The two cases seem to be very similar. The very strong evidence of the U.S. role in toppling the government of Imran Khan raises the likelihood that something similar may have occurred in Bangladesh.

 

In the case of Pakistan, Donald Lu, Assistant Secretary of State for South Asia and Central Asia, met with Asad Majeed Khan, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the U.S., on March 7, 2022. Ambassador Khan immediately wrote back to his capital, conveying Lu’s warning that PM Khan threatened U.S.-Pakistan relations because of Khan’s “aggressively neutral position” regarding Russia and Ukraine.

 

The Ambassador’s March 7 note (technically a diplomatic cypher) quoted Assistant Secretary Lu as follows: “I think if the no-confidence vote against the Prime Minister succeeds, all will be forgiven in Washington because the Russia visit is being looked at as a decision by the Prime Minister. Otherwise, I think it will be tough going ahead.” The very next day, members of the parliament took procedural steps to oust PM Khan.

 

On March 27, PM Khan brandished the cypher, and told his followers and the public that the U.S. was out to bring him down. On April 10, PM Khan was thrown out of office as the parliament acceded to the U.S. threat.

 

We know this in detail because of Ambassador Khan’s cypher, exposed by PM Khan and brilliantly documented by Ryan Grim of The Intercept, including the text of the cypher. Absurdly and tragically, PM Khan languishes in prison in part over espionage charges, linked to his revealing the cypher.

 

The U.S. appears to have played a similar role in the recent violent coup in Bangladesh. PM Hasina was ostensibly toppled by student unrest, and fled to India when the Bangladeshi military refused to prevent the protestors from storming the government offices. Yet there may well be much more to the story than meets the eye.

Prosecutors have dropped indecent assault charges against US film mogul Harvey Weinstein as they ruled there is 'no realistic prospect of conviction'.

 

The producer, 72, had been charged in June 2022 with two counts of indecent assault against a woman in London in August 1996.

 

Frank Ferguson, head of the UK's Crown Prosecution Service special crime and counter terrorism division, said: 'Following a review of the evidence in this case, the CPS has decided to discontinue criminal proceedings against Harvey Weinstein.'

 

It comes after the New York Court of Appeals threw out his 2020 rape conviction on April 25 after ruling he did not receive a fair trial - effectively erasing his 23-year prison sentence and ordering a retrial.

 

But he remains in prison as he was found guilty of the rape and sexual assault of Italian actress and model Evgeniya Chernyshova in Los Angeles and was sentenced to 16 years.

Durov speaks out for first time since arrest in France

 

The Telegram founder said it was wrong to charge him with crimes allegedly committed on his platform

 

Telegram founder Pavel Durov has said that the French authorities used “surprising” arguments when they arrested him at a Paris airport last month.

 

The Russian-French businessman was detained after landing at Paris-Le Bourget Airport on August 24 and released on bail several days later. He was charged with 12 counts, including complicity in distributing child porn, drug dealing and money laundering. The charges stem from the accusation that Telegram’s lax moderation rules allow for the widespread use of the platform by criminals.

 

Durov released a lengthy statement on Telegram on Thursday night, arguing that the position of the prosecution was “surprising for several reasons.”

 

“If a country is unhappy with an internet service, the established practice is to start a legal action against the service itself,” Durov wrote. “Using laws from the pre-smartphone era to charge a CEO with crimes committed by third parties on the platform he manages is a misguided approach.”

 

Building technology is hard enough as it is. No innovator will ever build new tools if they know they can be personally held responsible for potential abuse of those tools.

 

According to the tech billionaire, the police told him that he could be “personally responsible for other people’s illegal use of Telegram, because the French authorities didn’t receive responses from Telegram.”

 

Durov dismissed the claim that his company was hard to reach, noting that Telegram has an official representative in the EU that replies to requests. “Its email address has been publicly available for anyone in the EU who googles ‘Telegram EU address for law enforcement,’‘‘ he wrote.

 

“The French authorities had numerous ways to reach me to request assistance,” he continued, adding that he was “a frequent guest” at the French consulate in Dubai.

 

Durov was born in Russia but has lived in Dubai since the late 2010s. He is also a citizen of France, the UAE, and the Caribbean nation of Saint Kitts and Nevis.

They currently employ nearly THREE MILLION people with an average wage of $71K a year + bonuses, healthcare, and 3-4 weeks of vacation.

 

Oh, and conferences too. We can't forget about those swanky, super-important conferences held in destination cities and tropical locations. You know, the ones we pay for. Those can effectively be considered vacation-esque, spending our money on airfare, hotels, car rental, food, expenses, parking, and per diem.

 

Not to mention it's near impossible to fire anyone so boundaries being pushed is the norm and not the exception.

Noble women could also achieve a degree of auctoritas. For example, the wives, sisters, and mothers of the Julio-Claudians had immense influence on society, the masses, and the political apparatus. Their auctoritas was exercised less overtly than that of their male counterparts due to Roman societal norms, but they were powerful nonetheless.[1]

 

According to linguist Emile Benveniste, auctor (which also gives us English "author") is derived from Latin augeō ("to augment", "to enlarge", "to enrich"). The auctor is "is qui auget", the one who augments the act or the juridical situation of another.[2] Arguably[citation needed], Benveniste defended that Latin "auctoritas" was based on a divine conception of power and not on the individual that happened to the position of authority.

 

Auctor in the sense of "author", comes from auctor as founder or, one might say, "planter-cultivator"[citation needed]. Similarly, auctoritas refers to rightful ownership, based on one's having "produced" or homesteaded the article of property in question – more in the sense of "sponsored" or "acquired" than "manufactured". This auctoritas would, for example, persist through an usucapio of ill-gotten or abandoned property.

What is a COURT JEW/COURT FACTOR?PART I

In the early modern period, a court Jew, or court factor (German: Hofjude, Hoffaktor; Yiddish: היף איד, romanized: Hoyf Id, קאַורט פאַקטאַר, Kourt Faktor), was a Jewish banker who handled the finances of, or lent money to, European,

mainly German, royalty and nobility. In return for their services, court Jews gained social privileges, including, in some cases, being granted noble status.

 

Examples of what would be later called court Jews emerged in the High Middle Ages[a] when the royalty, the nobility, and the church borrowed money from money changers or employed them as financiers.

Among the most notable of these were Aaron of Lincoln and Vivelin of Strasbourg.

Jewish financiers could use their family connections to provide their sponsors with finance, food, arms, ammunition, gold, and precious metals.[citation needed]

 

The rise of the absolute monarchies in Central Europe brought many Jews, mostly of Ashkenazi origin, into the position of negotiating loans for the various courts.

They could amass personal fortunes and gain political and social influence. However, the court Jew had social connections and influence in the Christian world mainly through the Christian nobility and church.

Due to the precarious position of Jews, some nobles could ignore their debts. If the sponsoring noble died, his Jewish financier could face exile or execution.

The most famous example of this occurred in Württemberg when, after the death of his sponsor Charles Alexander in 1737, Joseph Süß Oppenheimer was put on trial and finally executed.[1]

In an effort to avoid such fate, some court bankers in the late 18th century—such as Samuel Bleichröder, Mayer Amschel Rothschild, or Aron Elias Seligmann—successfully detached their businesses from these courts

and established what eventually developed into full-fledged banks.[2]

 

Prohibited from nearly every other trade, some Jews began to occupy an economic niche as moneylenders in the Middle Ages. Only they were allowed to take interest on loans,

since—while the Church condemned usury universally—canon law was only applied to Christians and not to Jews. Eventually, a sizable sector of the Jewish community were engaged in financial occupations,

and the community was a financially highly successful part of the medieval economy.[3][4] The religious restrictions on moneylending had inadvertently created a source of monopoly rents,

causing profits associated with moneylending to be higher than they otherwise would have been.[5]

By most parameters, the standard of living of the Jewish community in Early Medieval period was at least equal to that of the lower nobility.[6]

However, despite this economic prosperity, the community was not safe: religious hostility increased to the extent that it manifested itself in the form of massacres and expulsions,

Culminating in the repetitive expulsion of all Jews from various parts of Western Europe in the late medieval period.

Carved in stone are his last words, which remain similarly etched into the memories of every U.S. Navy submariner.

 

"Take her down!"

 

In December 1941 Gilmore was given full command of Shark, but the role was short lived. The day after the Dec. 7 attack on Pearl Harbor Gilmore was transferred to the Gato-class submarine USS Growler (SS-174).

The boat's first war patrol was to the Aleutians, where, on the morning of July 5, 1942, it spotted a tempting sight: Three Japanese destroyers off the island of Kiska.

 

Approaching directly, Gilmore loosed two torpedoes, dealing serious damage to Kasumi and killing 10 of its sailors. Next, it blew off the bow of Shiranui, killing three seamen and forcing the destroyer to be towed to Maizuru, Japan, for repairs.

 

Gilmore then calmly turned toward the destroyer Arare. He fired another two torpedoes, the second of which sent the ship and its crew to the ocean floor. Arare's commanding officer and 42 survivors were rescued by the damaged Shiranui.

 

For these efforts Gilmore was awarded the Navy Cross - but he was just getting started.

 

In a second patrol Growler sank four merchant ships, totaling 15,000 tons, in the East China Sea near Formosa (now Taiwan). Gilmore was awarded a gold star in lieu of a second Navy Cross.

 

After an uneventful third patrol, Growler set out on what would become an ominous fourth.

 

Departing Brisbane, Australia, on New Year's Day 1943, Growler headed toward Rabaul in the western Solomons, sinking a transport on Jan. 16 and another on the 19th. On Jan. 30 it damaged a freighter but was driven down by a barrage of gunfire and depth charges.

 

The area had become a hornet's nest, courtesy of Japanese evacuations from Guadalcanal.

 

On Feb. 4 Gilmore tailed two freighters escorted by two patrol craft toward Gazelle Channel. As he moved Growler into position for an ambush, the lead Japanese ship proved ready and fired on the sub at 5,000 yards.
