The French news agency AFP first reported “heavy gunfire” in the Chadian capital on Wednesday evening. AFP cited a Chadian security source, who said that “armed men had attacked the presidential palace.”

 

All roads to the presidency have been closed to traffic and the streets were blocked by armored vehicles.

 

“Nothing serious, don’t panic, the situation is under control,” Chadian government spokesman Aziz Mahamat Saleh said in a Facebook post on Wednesday evening, without giving further details.

 

The former French colony terminated its security pact with Paris in November, following the lead of nearby Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso. France had around 1,000 troops in the Sahel nation. The first 30 or so departed in late December, with the rest expected to follow “in the coming weeks.”

New California Law Violates 1st And 14th Amendments, Business Groups Argue In Lawsuit

 

Business groups in California filed a federal lawsuit on New Year’s Eve to challenge a new law that prohibits companies from firing or in any way disciplining workers who refuse to attend “captive audience” meetings, effectively undoing nearly 80 years of precedent protecting employer speech.

 

Senate Bill 399, which took effect on Jan. 1, adds section 1137 to the California Labor Code, prohibiting employers from taking any action against an employee who refuses to attend a meeting that addresses a company’s opinions on political or religious matters.

 

The California Chamber of Commerce and California Restaurant Association, which filed the suit, claim that the law violates employers’ First and 14th amendments rights by restricting employer speech and regulating their conversations with employees.

 

“Because of SB 399, employers in California are now subject to liability, penalties, and other administrative action when they exercise their federal constitutional and statutory rights to talk to employees about political issues,” the lawsuit said.

 

The bill discriminates against employers’ speech by regulating the content of employers’ communications with their employees and puts a chill on employer speech, the business organizations argued in the suit. The California Restaurant Association said it has the right to express its views on issues.

 

“Throughout legislative deliberations, we repeatedly underscored the fact that SB 399 was a huge overreach,” CalChamber President and CEO Jennifer Barrera said in an emailed statement to The Epoch Times.

 

“SB 399 is clearly viewpoint-based discrimination, which runs afoul of the First Amendment. In addition, SB 399 is preempted by the NLRA.”

 

“Employers have the right to express their views and opinions on many issues,” Jot Condie, CRA president and CEO, said in a statement to The Epoch Times.

 

“SB 399 creates restrictions that are unworkable and the unintended consequences of this new law outweigh any perceived benefit.”

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum chided President-elect Trump for saying he plans to rename the Gulf of Mexico, saying she has a new name for the United States.

 

"Mexican America. That sounds nice,"Sheinbaum quipped Wednesday in Mexico City during a press conference, Reuters reported.

 

Sheinbaum cited a map from 1607 during the press conference and was joined by Mexico’s former culture minister, Jose Alfonso Suarez del Real.

 

"The fact is that Mexican America is recognized since the 17th century… as the name for the whole northern part of the (American) continent," Suarez del Real said, pointing to the map.

 

Sheinbaum’s remark followed Trump holding his own press conference Tuesday, where he made a series of announcements and further previewed his upcoming second administration, including saying he plans to rename the Gulf of Mexico.

 

​​"We have a massive deficit with Mexico, and we help Mexico a lot. They're essentially run by the cartels, and can't let that happen, because Mexico is really in trouble, a lot of trouble. Very dangerous place," Trump said during the press conference.

 

"We're going to be changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, which has a beautiful ring. That covers a lot of territory," Trump said Tuesday. "The Gulf of America. What a beautiful name. And it's appropriate."

 

The Gulf of Mexico is a partly enclosed sea that borders states such as Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida, as well as Mexico and the northwestern portion of Cuba. Trump did not elaborate on how or when he will rename the body of water. Instead, he switched gears to the immigration woes in the U.S. under the Biden White House.

 

"Mexico has to stop allowing millions of people to pour into our country. They can stop them, and we’re going to put very serious tariffs on Mexico and Canada, because Canada, they come through Canada, too. And the drugs that are coming through are at record numbers," Trump said.

 

Sheinbaum pushed back on Trump’s comment that Mexico is essentially "run by cartels," responding that the "people are in charge" of the nation.

 

Sheinbaum added during the press conference that she expects the U.S. and Mexico will have a "good relationship" during the second Trump administration.

 

"I think there will be a good relationship," she said. "President Trump has his way of communicating."

Tanks have been deployed to the streets of N’Djamena and heavy gunfire could be heard at the heart of the capital of Chad, as the presidential palace reportedly came under attack by unidentified militants, sources have told RT.

 

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi had visited N’Djamena on Wednesday to discuss “advancing bilateral cooperation” with Chadian President Mahamat Deby.

 

The French news agency AFP first reported “heavy gunfire” in the Chadian capital on Wednesday evening. AFP cited a Chadian security source, who said that “armed men had attacked the presidential palace.”

 

All roads to the presidency have been closed to traffic and the streets were blocked by armored vehicles.

 

“Nothing serious, don’t panic, the situation is under control,” Chadian government spokesman Aziz Mahamat Saleh said in a Facebook post on Wednesday evening, without giving further details.

 

The former French colony terminated its security pact with Paris in November, following the lead of nearby Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso. France had around 1,000 troops in the Sahel nation. The first 30 or so departed in late December, with the rest expected to follow “in the coming weeks.”

 

On Tuesday, French President Emmanuel Macron told a meeting of ambassadors that the former colonies in Africa forgot to thank Paris for its help against terrorists and separatists over the past decade.

 

“None of them would have a sovereign state if the French army had not deployed in this region,” the French president claimed. “I think that they forgot to thank us, but that’s ok, it will come in time.”

 

France was one of the key backers of the 2011 NATO intervention in Libya to oust the government of Muammar Gaddafi. Libya has been torn by sectarian warfare among rival warlords ever since, with much of its arsenal finding its way to a variety of militant groups across the Sahel, including some that allied with Al-Qaeda. On Wednesday, the 10-year Treasury yield, underpinning trillions of dollars in daily global transactions, jumped to above 4.7%, their highest since April, and UK peers hit their highest since 2008.

 

Germany's 10-year Bund yield rose on Wednesday as well to a more than five-month high amid accelerating euro zone inflation, and elevated bond supply. The yield, the euro zone benchmark, was last little changed on the day at 2.521%, after hitting 2.534%, its highest since July last year.

 

This unleashed a fresh wave of selling in currencies against the greenback, including sterling, which slid more than 1% before slightly recovering, and the euro, which was headed closer toward the $1 mark.

 

The S&P 500, which rallied post Trump's win, has recently started to falter, although it has marginally recouped some of those losses.

 

Trump, in a press conference at Mar-a-Lago on Tuesday, decried high U.S. interest rates despite the Federal Reserve being in the midst of an easing cycle.

 

"Inflation is continuing to rage, and interest rates are far too high," the president-elect said.

New Year's used to be a time I looked forward to, spending time with family and anticipating what joys and surprises the year held.

 

But ever since Fani Willis began her crusade to rip my family apart, thinking of the new year has only filled our family with worry and dread.

My husband, James, served in the Atlanta Police Department. That's me, James, and our son in the photo I sent.

Being a police officer meant the world to James. He was born and raised in Atlanta, and saw his job as a way to help his neighbors. But if Fani Willis has her way… life in prison could be his reward.

 

Our nightmare started more than eight years ago, when an off-duty police officer radioed in about a man breaking into a parked car at an apartment complex.

 

Then the officer stopped responding. Dispatch issued a distress call, and all available units rushed over.

 

My husband was closest to the scene, so he arrived first. When he got there, he saw a running car parked facing the wrong way on a one-way street. With his emergency lights on, James got out to investigate.

 

That's when it happened.

 

The suspect saw my husband, slammed on the gas, and drove straight at him.

 

James was certain the man was intentionally trying to run him over.

 

With only a split second to think, James drew his weapon and fired a single shot at the vehicle bearing down on him. It struck the suspect, who died instantly.

 

James was shaken by the incident, but thankfully he was unhurt. He went home, certain he had done everything by the book. So you can imagine our shock when James found out he was being charged with murder!

 

James was forced to turn himself in, and spent the night locked up in jail in solitary confinement. They treated him like a common criminal. They even kept him in a straitjacket!

 

We all thought this was a giant misunderstanding – just a soft-on-crime District Attorney trying to make a name for themselves by targeting a police officer.

 

We couldn't have been more wrong.

 

You see, James is white, and the suspect he shot was black. So the woke, anti-police prosecutors in Atlanta have made it their mission to destroy my husband.

 

For eight years now, these radical prosecutors and the woke mob who helped get them elected have dragged my husband's name through the mud.

 

The District Attorney at the time held press conferences bragging about how tough they were for going after my husband. They even campaigned on putting my James behind bars!

 

Every time James has to appear at the Fulton County Courthouse for a hearing, angry protesters show up carrying giant signs with James' mugshot on them, with "MURDERER" scribbled across his face in red spray paint.

It is not clear exactly how and under what circumstances the breach occurred. A Russian-language post and screenshots uploaded early Sunday to XSS, a site popular with attention-seeking cybercriminals, carried a claim that the company had been hacked and that large amounts of data were stolen.

 

Reuters could not immediately locate contact details for the party responsible for the posts, whose publication had been reported by tech outlet 404media.

That the following classes of aliens shall be excluded from admission into the United States . . .anarchists, or persons who believe in or advocate the overthrow by force or violence of the Government of the United States or of all government or of all forms of law, or the assassination of public officials . . . .

That noperson who disbelieves in or who is opposed to all organized government, or who is a member of or affiliated with any organization entertaining and teaching such disbelief in or opposition to all organized government, or who advocates or teaches the duty, necessity, or propriety of the unlawful assaulting or killing of any officer or officers, either of specific individuals or of officers generally, of the Government of the United States or of any other organized government, because of his or their official character, shall be permitted to enter the United States or any Territory or place subject to the jurisdiction thereof . . . .
