Trump Exempts Computers, Handsets, Chips From Reciprocal Tariff Blitz

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) issued an updated guidance late Friday night on product exclusions from President Trump's reciprocal tariffs, imposed under Executive Order 14257 and its amendments (EO 14259). The exclusions cover a wide range of electronic devices, including smartphones, laptops, and related components.

 

First, President Trump paused reciprocal tariffs for non-retaliating countries (e.g., China) for 90 days last week. Now, updated guidance from CBP reveals that some of the highest-value trade—particularly a wide range of electronics—is excluded from the reciprocal tariffs.

 

Among the 20 tariff codes listed for exemption, three stand out in particular:

 

8471 – Automatic data processing machines and units thereof (e.g., laptops, desktops, servers).

 

8517.13.00 – Smartphones and other telecommunication apparatus for cellular networks.

 

8542 – Electronic integrated circuits (e.g., microprocessors, memory chips).

Last week, Parisian judge Bénédicte de Perthuis sentenced Le Pen to 4 years and banned her from participating in the 2027 Presidential election for purportedly misappropriating funding from the European Union. In a profoundly Orwellian ruling, de Perthuis insisted that Le Pen’s actions amounted to a “serious and lasting attack on the rules of democratic life in Europe.”

 

Beyond the obvious concerns that the courts have yet again applied double standards of justice to punish populist leaders, the lawfare represents a direct and coordinated attack, amplified by state-funded media, against the will of the people of France.

 

In the wake of Le Pen’s conviction, state-funded media, from NPR to the BBC to Politico, and supposedly neutral wires like Reuters and the Associated Press, have tagged Le Pen with the label of “FAR-RIGHT,” a not-so-subtle association with fascism and Nazism. The editors collectively ignore that they are labelling a plurality of the country as extremists, given that polls show Le Pen is fifteen points ahead of the second-most popular candidate in the 2027 Presidential election.

Opening ceremony for Osaka Expo held ahead of full public start

Dignitaries including Emperor Naruhito and Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba attended the opening ceremony for the 2025 World Exposition in Osaka on Saturday, a day before the long-anticipated event opens its doors to the public.

The first world expo in Japan since the 2005 event in Aichi Prefecture, it is themed on "life" and ways to create a sustainable future society.

In total, 158 countries and regions are set to exhibit at the expo lasting for six months until Oct. 13.

 

Acts and entertainment at the opening ceremony held at the expo's Yumeshima venue in the western Japan city included breakdancing, a life-themed lights show and musical performances.

Crown Prince Fumihito, the expo's honorary president, and his wife, Crown Princess Kiko, also attended.

 

In his speech declaring the opening of the expo, Emperor Naruhito said he hopes it will be "an opportunity for the world to create a sustainable future."

Addressing the ceremony, Ishiba said the expo "provides a stage for the people of the world to come together and exchange dialogue," adding that it "will show the world a new Japan."

We’re in the middle of a year-long CR… there’s a rumor that we’ll have a trillion-dollar budget incoming… there’s also these sudden, unscheduled personnel changes… and I’ve got all these space threats to deal with?

 

But I’m not stressed, because I’ve got a secret weapon. Thanks to Jennifer, my wife, I am stress free.

You see, she gave me this stress ball. Whenever I’m feeling anxious, I just squeeze it, and everything gets better.

Who wants it? Here you go, catch! Okay, don’t fight over it…

 

But I’m really excited to be here for the 40th Space Symposium! Four decades—hard to believe. Congratulations on an incredible milestone!

Speaking of milestones, 66 years ago today—April 9th, 1959—saw the creation of a whole new space profession.

That’s because this was the day that NASA announced the names of the Mercury Seven: America’s first astronauts.

 

The event took place in the new space agency’s first headquarters, in the ballroom of the Dolley Madison House on Lafayette Square, right across from the White House.

I’ve been lobbying for the Space Force to move in there… but no luck, yet. Anyway, the Mercury Seven were Alan Shepard, “Gus” Grissom, John Glenn, Wally Schirra, Scott Carpenter, Deke Slayton, and Gordon Cooper.

They were instantly famous! According to Time Magazine, they were America’s first space celebrities… “Seven men cut of the same stone as Columbus, Magellan, Daniel Boone, Orville and Wilbur Wright…”

 

By virtue of being the first, these seven military test pilots set the standards, built the processes and established the culture that followed.

As one NASA official later recalled, "I soon learned if you saw someone wearing a short-sleeved Ban-Lon shirt and aviator sunglasses, you were looking at an astronaut…"

Now, those Ban-Lon shirts may have sadly gone out of style, but those sunglasses are still a hit with the cool space crowd to this day.

 

Seriously, though, a lot has changed since then, and we’re not living in the 1960s anymore.

Back then, it made perfect sense to aggregate capability onto small numbers of complex and expensive satellites, secure in the knowledge that they were remote and untouchable.

But the space domain today looks nothing like that benign environment we enjoyed 60 years ago… or even the environment in which I began my career just 34 years ago.

In 1965, only 3 nations had the ability to launch rockets into orbit.

 

Today, there are 15 nations capable of space launch. 88 countries have satellites in orbit, and every nation has access to the benefits of space capabilities.

This means the effort to keep track of what’s being launched into space and how those satellites are being used is becoming tougher. Tougher still when there are actors deliberately being unclear with their intentions.

 

Potential adversaries have realized the unique strategic advantage of space superiority. They know, as we do, that control of the ultimate high ground is critical to success in all the other domains. This means we must treat space like a warfighting domain… because it very much IS one.

Space has become the central nervous system of Joint and Combined operations. It is a pre-requisite for air superiority, which in turn lays the groundwork for land and sea operations. And space capabilities are THE critical enabler for modern power projection.

 

As with other elements of military operations, critical advantages can become strategic vulnerabilities if not safeguarded.

Our adversaries recognize that spacepower is a linchpin to success for any conflict among great powers—the first domino that must fall before larger objectives may be achieved.

Simply put, space superiority is now a prerequisite for battlefield success.

 

So, regardless of whether or not you believe space superiority will win the next war, it must be recognized that we will most certainly lose without it.

And by “we,” make no mistake: I mean the United States AND our Allies and Partners around the world. As Secretary Hegseth recently stated, “America first does not mean America alone.”

The newest GOES weather satellite in NOAA's fleet is now fully operational

The final satellite in NOAA's GOES-R weather satellite series has a new place in orbit … and a new name.

The GOES-19 weather satellite, which launched into orbit in June 2024, has officially taken the place of its predecessor GOES-16 to watch over the Western Hemisphere from its perch 22,236 miles (35,785 kilometers) above us.

To mark the milestone, the satellite has the new name of GOES East to serve as the dominant geostationary satellite in the fleet, NOAA officials said in a statement.

 

"With GOES-19 now in operation, NOAA has delivered the full fleet of GOES-R satellites to orbit, providing the most sophisticated technology ever flown in space to help forecast weather on Earth," said Stephen Volz, assistant administrator for NOAA's Satellite and Information Service, in the statement.

"GOES-19 supports NOAA's mission to provide secure and timely access to global environmental data and information to promote and protect the nation's security, environment, economy and quality of life."

 

As GOES East, the satellite will be responsible for keeping a watchful eye on tropical development in the Atlantic Ocean, and monitor weather such as severe storms, wildfires, and atmospheric rivers.

Just like its siblings, GOES-19 is equipped with technology to produce high-resolution imagery, take measurements of the atmosphere, and track the location and intensity of lightning in real-time.

If that's not exciting enough for scientists, this satellite also hosts NOAA's first compact coronagraph instrument (CCOR-1), monitoring the sun's activity.

 

"CCOR-1 is a game-changer for ensuring our nation is resilient to solar storms, monitoring massive eruptions of energy from the sun in real time," Clinton Wallace, director of NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center, said in the statement.

"With dramatically improved resolution and faster detection, it helps us better predict dangerous space weather that can impact satellites, GPS, astronaut safety, aviation and power grids, ensuring we can protect critical technology and infrastructure like never before."

NOAA budget proposal would affect weather satellite, other space programs

DENVER — The White House’s budget proposal for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration would seek to make major changes in a weather satellite program as well as transfer space weather and space traffic management efforts.

NOAA received a draft of the fiscal year 2026 budget proposal from the White House’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB) April 10.

The document, known as a passback, offers the agency a chance to seek any final changes in the proposal before the budget proposal is formally released by the administration.

 

Like the NASA budget passback, which proposed severe cuts in its science programs, the NOAA passback would make major changes to many of its space-related activities.

Among them is the Geostationary Extended Observations, or GeoXO, program that will develop a new generation of weather satellites operating in geostationary orbit starting in the early 2030s

 

According to a source familiar with the contents of the passback, OMB seeks a “major overhaul” of the GeoXO program.

That would include removing instruments perceived to focus on climate rather than weather data, such as those that study atmospheric composition and ocean color.

 

The changes, OMB claims, are intended to cut costs of GeoXO.

The program has an estimated total cost of nearly $20 billion over its 30-year life, including costs for six satellites, their instruments and operations.

The passback also proposes to terminate cooperation between NASA and NOAA on GeoXO.

NASA handles procurement and technical management of the GeoXO satellites and instruments, and will procure their launches, a role NASA has long played in NOAA satellite programs.

It was uncertain what benefits this would provide, given a lack of internal NOAA expertise in satellite development.

 

Another element of the NOAA passback would move the Space Weather Prediction Center from NOAA to the Department of Homeland Security.

The center monitors space weather and issues warnings of solar storms. It was unclear what the proposed move would mean for NOAA spacecraft and instruments that provide space weather data.

 

The passback would also direct the Office of Space Commerce, located within NOAA, to develop a plan to transfer the space traffic coordination system it is development, the Traffic Coordination System for Space (TraCSS).

That transfer would be to an unspecified “non-government entity” that could be a company or a nonprofit organization.

 

The office recently hailed progress on TraCSS, with the full system expected to enter service by next January.

Handing over TraCSS would save the government little money: the office requested $75.6 million in its fiscal year 2025 budget proposal, most of which would be spent on TraCSS.

 

The changes to space-related programs at NOAA are part of broader changes proposed for the agency in the passback, focused in large part on climate programs. That has alarmed many scientists as well as members of Congress.

“Trump’s budget plan for NOAA is both outrageous and dangerous,” said Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.), ranking member of the House Science Committee, in a statement, adding that she would work to block “this idiotic plan” from being implemented.

Kremlin reveals content of Putin’s talks with Trump envoy

The discussions between Russian President Vladimir Putin and White House special envoy Steve Witkoff on Friday involved “aspects of the settlement of the Ukraine conflict,” the Kremlin has announced, declining to provide further details.

Witkoff visited Russia on Friday and met with Putin in St. Petersburg. The meeting lasted over four hours and the content of the talks has been largely kept under wraps by Moscow and Washington.

 

However, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt addressed the issue during a press briefing earlier in the day when asked by a reporter about the purpose of Witkoff’s visit to Russia.

According to Leavitt, the visit was aimed at facilitating direct US communications with the Kremlin as part of a broader effort to negotiate a ceasefire and eventual peace agreement in the Ukraine conflict.

 

The Trump administration faced growing internal divisions this week after Witkoff allegedly proposed a ceasefire plan that would recognize Russian control over four eastern regions claimed by both Moscow and Kiev, Reuters reported on Friday citing anonymous sources.

During a White House meeting with President Donald Trump last week, Witkoff argued that recognizing Russian ownership of Lugansk, Donetsk, Zaporozhye, and Kherson was the swiftest path to halting the war, the outlet’s sources said.

General Keith Kellogg, Trump’s Ukraine envoy, reportedly pushed back, stressing Ukraine would not accept full territorial concessions.

 

The meeting reportedly concluded without a decision from Trump, who has repeatedly said he wants to broker a ceasefire by May. Witkoff subsequently traveled to Russia on Friday for talks with Putin.

The episode has deepened rifts within the Trump administration, as officials debate how to resolve the Ukraine conflict, Reuters wrote. Witkoff’s approach, previously outlined in a March interview with Tucker Carlson, has reportedly alarmed both Republican lawmakers and US allies.

“They’re Russian-speaking,” Witkoff told Carlson of the eastern territories. “There have been referendums where the overwhelming majority of the people have indicated that they want to be under Russian rule.”

 

Several Republicans reportedly contacted National Security Adviser Mike Waltz and Secretary of State Marco Rubio to raise concerns about Witkoff’s stance, criticizing him for echoing Russian rhetoric.

A recent dinner with Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev, who until recently was under US sanctions, further stirred controversy. Originally planned at Witkoff’s home, it was moved to the White House after security concerns were raised.

In First, Estonia Detains Russian 'Shadow Fleet' Tanker

Estonia has detained a Russia-linked tanker, marking the Baltic country’s first maritime operation targeting the so-called “shadow fleet” transporting Russian oil in violation of Western sanctions, the Postimees news outlet reported.

The vessel was intercepted in the early hours of Friday near Aegna Island in Muuga Bay as it sailed through Estonian territorial waters en route to the Russian port of Ust-Luga.

 

Authorities stopped the ship to verify its documentation and legal status, Estonian Navy Commander Ivo Värk told reporters at a press conference.

The tanker, identified as the Kiwala, was reportedly operating under the flag of Djibouti, according to vessel-tracking service MarineTraffic.

 

However, at the time of its detention, it was not flying a national flag — a violation of maritime law. The crew later produced a flag certificate, but a representative for Djibouti’s maritime authority denied that the ship was listed in its national registry.

Estonian transportation authorities are now inspecting the ship’s structure and reviewing its documentation to ensure it poses no threat to maritime safety, Postimees reported. The Kiwala is now under the guard of three Estonian naval vessels.

 

Veiko Kommusaar, deputy chief of Estonia’s Police and Border Guard Board, confirmed that the tanker is sanctioned by the EU.

It has also been sanctioned by the U.K., Canada, and Switzerland, according to the Ukrainian sanctions-monitoring portal War & Sanctions.

 

On board were 24 third-country individuals. The ship’s captain, a Chinese national, cooperated with Estonian authorities, Postimees reported. The rest of the people on board were preliminarily identified as citizens of Mauritania.

War & Sanctions noted that the Kiwala was previously commanded by a man named Sergei Kharchenko.

The vessel is owned by Tirad Shipping, a Mauritius-registered company whose fleet consists solely of the Kiwala. The tanker previously belonged to Turkish and Indian shipping firms.

 

The detention comes two days after the Estonian parliament passed legislation granting the country’s Defense Forces the authority to use force against vessels in the Baltic Sea if they are found to pose a threat to national security.

The law was passed in response to a rise in suspected sabotage incidents, including damage to undersea cables and critical infrastructure, which Estonian officials believe is orchestrated by Russian intelligence services.

Russian drone attack kills 1, injures 2 in Kherson Oblast

A Russian drone strike killed one man and injured two others in Ukraine’s southern Kherson Oblast, according to Kherson Governor Oleksandr Prokudin.

 

On April 12, Russian forces attacked a civilian vehicle in the Dniprovskiy district, Prokudin said. The drone dropped explosives on the car, fatally wounding a 27-year-old man.

 

Two other men, aged 30 and 49, sustained blast injuries, concussions, and shrapnel wounds. They were taken to the hospital and are in moderate condition, according to Prokudin.

 

Attack comes as Moscow continues to reject a U.S.-proposed 30-day ceasefire aimed at halting hostilities. Kyiv has said it is ready to accept a full ceasefire if Russia also agrees to the terms. It has now been more than a month since the Kremlin first dismissed the ceasefire proposal.

Former National Security Agency Director Mike Rogers told FBI agents that the crux of a Pulitzer Prize award-winning Washington Post story on the Russian collusion hoax was “wrong," according to newly declassified documents obtained by Just the News.

 

Admiral Rogers, who retired in 2018 after four years as National Security Agency chief and commander of U.S. Cyber Command, spoke with FBI agents and a key member of special counsel Robert Mueller’s team in June 2017, where he threw cold water on a May 2017 story by the Post titled, “Trump asked intelligence chiefs to push back against FBI collusion probe after Comey revealed its existence.”

 

It is not yet known whether the Post had been told prior to the May 2017 publishing of their story that Rogers was denying their characterization of his talk with Trump, but it is now known that Rogers was telling federal investigators in June 2017 that the story was bogus.

 

The Post story — now known to have been directly refuted by one of its main subjects the month after it published — would go on to be among the Russiagate stories published by the outlet to win a Pulitzer Prize in 2018. Trump is currently suing the Pulitzer Board for defamation for continuing to defend the awards it gave to this collusion-related story and numerous others. A Florida circuit court judge denied the Pulitzer Board’s motion to delay President Donald Trump’s defamation lawsuit against them on presidential immunity grounds.

 

The newly-released Rogers interview with the Mueller team shows that the then-NSA director was read a quote from The Washington Post article— that “President Trump urged [Rogers] to publicly deny the existence of any evidence of collusion during the 2016 election” — with the FBI notes stating that “Rogers responded that the media characterization was wrong, and the President had asked about the existence of SIGINT [signals intelligence] evidence only.”

 

The Rogers interview was among hundreds of pages of Crossfire Hurricane documents declassified by President Trump and sent to Congress by FBI Director Kash Patel.

 

The Pulitzer Prize Board's website said the 2018 Pulitzer Prize in National Reporting was awarded to the staffs of the Washington Post and New York Times “for deeply sourced, relentlessly reported coverage in the public interest that dramatically furthered the nation’s understanding of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and its connections to the Trump campaign, the President-elect’s transition team, and his eventual administration.”

 

Among the “Winning Works” was the story that Rogers directly refuted, listed by the Pulitzer Prize website with the title “President asked intelligence chiefs to deny collusion (Washington Post).”

 

The Pulitzer Prize Board and the Washington Postdid not immediately respond to requests for comment by Just the News about the 2017 story and the 2018 award, about whether they had known about the refutation by Rogers, and what their reaction was to this newly-declassified FBI interview by the ex-NSA chief.

 

Rogers spoke with FBI special agents and with Mueller team deputy special counsel Aaron Zebley on June 12, 2017, where Rogers recounted the phone call he had with Trump on March 26, 2017.

 

Rogers said he received a call around 1:00 or 1:30 PM saying Trump wanted to speak with him, so he went to his office and called Trump back at the White House. Rogers said he had his deputy, Richard Ledgett, listen in on the call.

 

Ledgett wrote up a memo of the call after it occurred, and both Ledgett and Rogers signed the memorialization of the conversation, with the FBI notes stating that “ADM Rogers explained he felt the memo appropriate because getting a call from the President on a Sunday afternoon is a little unusual and he assumes that whatever he does will become public at some point, so he wanted to make sure it was captured accurately.”

 

Rogers confirms falsity of news stories

The FBI interview notes show that Rogers’ refutation of the Washington Post story was based not just on his memory but also on the memo he had signed onto.

 

“ADM Rogers provided the memo to the interview team, and Deputy Special Counsel Zebley read the memo out loud line-by-line, asking ADM Rogers at various points to confirm the content… ADM Rogers affirmed the memo was a true and accurate reflection of the call,” the FBI notes say, with the NSA chief making his refutation based upon both his “recollection of the call and the memo.”

Rogers told the Mueller team that, during the call, “President Trump expressed frustration with the ongoing investigation into Russian interference, saying that it made relations with the Russians difficult.” Trump also “disagreed with definitive assertions that the Russians were responsible for the hacks and said it was impossible to tell who was actually responsible for the hacking” and “also said it was making it hard for him to deal with the Russians.”

 

Media characterization was wrong

 

The NSA chief said Trump asked Rogers what he thought. “ADM Rogers acknowledged it does make relations difficult, but then explained in detail, but at a high level, the intelligence supporting ADM Rogers' confidence, and the rest of the community's, that the Russians were behind the hacks. President Trump stated they would have to ‘agree to disagree’ on the matter,” the FBI notes state.

 

At least one line from Rogers’ remarks is then redacted, citing “OGA” or “Other Government Information” — meaning information from an unnamed U.S. intelligence agency.

 

“President Trump then asked ADM Rogers if he would say ‘that’ publicly. Rogers interpreted ‘that’ to mean [OGA],” the FBI notes state. “ADM Rogers told President Trump he could not do that, as he did not and could not discuss USPERS [U.S. persons] in unclassified settings. President Trump did not ask him to 'pushback' on the investigation itself, but he clearly did not agree with the assessment of Russian involvement. During the call, ADM Rogers said to President Trump, 'You want me to be truthful, right?' President Trump never suggested otherwise, but said he wanted to make sure there was no doubt about his involvement."

 

The FBI notes say that Rogers then proceeded to shoot down The Washington Post story: “The interviewing team read to ADM Rogers a quote from a media source that stated ‘President Trump urged [Rogers] to publicly deny the existence of any evidence of collusion during the 2016 election’ and ADM Rogers responded that the media characterization was wrong, and the President had asked about the existence of SIGINT [signals intelligence] evidence only.”

 

Rogers also detailed a meeting at the White House with Trump on April 13, 2017.

 

“Following the briefing, President Trump asked ADM Rogers to stay behind to have a private conversation. In that private conversation, the President repeated much of the same content discussed in the March 26, 2017 telephone call, but he didn't ask for anything or direct ADM Rogers to do anything,” the FBI notes state. “ADM Rogers described the conversation as President Trump ‘venting’ and recalled President Trump saying something like the ‘Russia thing has got to go away.’ He also recalled President Trump saying something similar to ‘I have done nothing wrong.’ ADM Rogers responded that the quickest and best way to make the investigation end is to make sure the investigation was done.”

 

The FBI notes state that “ADM Rogers closed by stating he believes the President truly believes the government will never really know who is responsible for the hacking incidents during the 2016 Presidential election and that he himself has done nothing wrong.”

 

The Washington Post article which Rogers shot down was authored by Adam Entous, now with the New York Times, and Ellen Nakashima, who is still with the Post.

 

Post claims it is "evidence"

 

The Post had reported in the story that “President Trump asked two of the nation’s top intelligence officials” — Rogers and now-ex Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats — “in March to help him push back against an FBI investigation into possible coordination between his campaign and the Russian government.” The outlet repeatedly cited anonymous sources, reporting that Trump appealed to Rogers and “urg[ed] [him] to publicly deny the existence of any evidence of collusion during the 2016 election.” The outlet said Rogers “refused to comply with the request” which he “deemed to be inappropriate.”

 

The Post claimed that its story, “add[ed] to a growing body of evidence that Trump sought to co-opt and then undermine Comey before he fired him” in May 2017.

 

The NSA reportedly declined to comment to the Post at the time, citing the ongoing Russian collusion investigation.

 

“The White House does not confirm or deny unsubstantiated claims based on illegal leaks from anonymous individuals,” a White House spokesman told the outlet at the time. “The president will continue to focus on his agenda that he was elected to pursue by the American people.

Durham Police issue drone warning for visit of King Charles and Queen Camilla

Police have issued a warning over drones flying over Durham City ahead of the King Charles and Queen Camilla visiting.

Durham Constabulary has issued an announcement that there will be a temporary restriction on drone flights will be in place over Durham City from 7am on Wednesday, April 16 to 7pm on Thursday, April 17.

 

King Charles and Queen Camilla are due to attend a Maundy Service at Durham Cathedral on Thursday, April 17, when they will meet specially invited guests and hand out Maundy money.

Durham County Council and Durham Constabulary are working closely with the cathedral to support the visit and ensure residents, visitors and businesses are able to make the most of the historic occasion.

 

The police force has issued the following advice regarding drone flights ahead of the royal visit:

No drones are allowed to fly within 1.5 nautical miles of Durham Cathedral, up to 1500 feet.

This restriction has been put in place by the Department for Transport for safety and security reasons.

Durham Police will be monitoring the area throughout the restriction period.

 

Drone enthusiasts have been warned by Durham Constabulary that flying a drone in the restricted area, 1.5 nautical miles of Durham Cathedral and up to 1500 feet, without police permission is an offence under Section 239(4) of the Air Navigation Order 2016.

There will also be a number of road closures, with all roads leading into and out of the peninsula area of the city closed to vehicular traffic from 6am to 3pm on the day of the visit.

 

Spectators will be able to gather on Palace Green and in the Market Place to get the best views of Their Majesties as their motorcade passes, but significant restrictions will be in place to ensure the safety of the expected crowds.

Mark Jackson, Durham County Council's head of transport and contract services, said: "The last Royal Maundy Service at Durham Cathedral took place almost 60 years ago, so this month's visit by The King and Queen promises to be a really special occasion.

 

"We are, therefore, expecting a lot of people in the city on the day of the visit, so would encourage people to plan ahead and allow plenty of time in order to make the most of the day."

Chief Inspector Stephanie Bird, of Durham Constabulary added: "We are looking forward to welcoming visitors to our wonderful city.

 

"Our officers will be on patrol throughout the event. It will be extremely busy so please plan your visit if you can. Please follow the directions and advice of our officers to help us keep everyone safe.

Schiff perpetuates bogus story

The outlet also quoted former Rep. Adam Schiff, then the ranking member on the House Intelligence Committee, who called the Post’s refuted claims “yet another disturbing allegation that the President was interfering in the FBI probe.” The Post also said that anonymous “current and former senior intelligence officials viewed Trump’s requests as an attempt by the president to tarnish the credibility of the agency leading the Russia investigation.”

 

Schiff was eventually censured in 2023 by his congressional colleagues in the House for repeatedly making false allegations based on the bogus dossier — including reading portions of the false dossier claims on the floor of the House.

 

Senate Democrats asked Rogers during a June 2017 hearing about whether Trump had asked Rogers to downplay the FBI’s collusion investigation. “I am not going to discuss the specifics of any interaction or conversations I may or may not…have had with the President of the United States,” Rogers testified. “But I will make the following comment. In the three-plus years that I have been the Director of the National Security Agency, to the best of my recollection, I have never been directed to do anything I believe to be illegal, immoral, unethical, or inappropriate. And to the best of my recollection, during that same period of service I do not recall ever feeling pressured to do so.”

 

Mueller’s 2019 report, citing the team’s 2017 interview with Rogers, said that “Rogers did not perceive the President’s request to be an order, and the President did not ask Rogers to push back on the Russia investigation itself.”

 

The citation of the Rogers interview fell within the Mueller report’s second volume — on the possible obstruction of justice. Mueller declined to reach a conclusion on whether Trump had obstructed justice, but then-Attorney General William Barr and then-Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein determined that the evidence did not support any obstruction charge.

 

John Durham also interviewed Rogers for his own special counsel investigation.

 

“Admiral Mike Rogers served as the Director of NSA during the relevant time period. When asked about any awareness he had of any evidence of collusion as asserted in the Steele Reports, he stated that he did not recall any intelligence that supported the collusion assertions in that reporting, nor did he have any discussions during the Summer of 2016 with his counterparts in the intelligence community about collusion between the Russians and any Republicans,” Durham’s 2023 report concluded.

 

Trump repeatedly called upon the Pulitzer Prize Board to rescind the award for the Russiagate stories by the Washington Post and New York Times, including an October 2021 letter to the Board which said that the stories were “based on false reporting of a non-existent link between the Kremlin and the Trump Campaign.”

 

Pulitzer Board circles the wagons

The Pulitzer Board doubled down in July 2022 on the awards it had given the outlets for their Trump-Russia collusion stories.

 

“The Pulitzer Prize Board has an established, formal process by which complaints against winning entries are carefully reviewed. In the last three years, the Pulitzer Board has received inquiries, including from former President Donald Trump, about submissions from The New York Times and The Washington Post on Russian interference in the U.S. election and its connections to the Trump campaign — submissions that jointly won the 2018 National Reporting prize,” the Board wrote at the time.

“These inquiries prompted the Pulitzer Board to commission two independent reviews of the work submitted by those organizations to our National Reporting competition. Both reviews were conducted by individuals with no connection to the institutions whose work was under examination, nor any connection to each other. Despite what we now know, the Board concluded that “the 2018 Pulitzer Prizes in National Reporting stand.” Trump soon made it clear he would be filing a lawsuit against the Board, including during an October 2022 rally in Texas.

I think it's a very good lawsuit, but we'll see,” Trump told the crowd at the time.

Trump sued the Pulitzer Prize Board for defamationin a Florida court in December 2022. “A large swath of Americans had a tremendous misunderstanding of the truth at the time the Times’ and the Post’s propagation of the Russia Collusion Hoax dominated the media,” Trump’s complaint stated. “Remarkably, they were rewarded for lying to the American public.”

 

Trump’s lawyers also wrote that the Board’s July 2022 statement in defense of its awards was published with "knowledge or reckless disregard for its falsity" and that the Board members "knew that the Russia Collusion Hoax had been thoroughly discredited numerous times by exhaustive, credible, official investigations” which had contradicted what the Board had said about the articles they had bestowed awards upon.

 

The legal battle has continued since, with Trump’s lawsuit surviving challenges thus far. Ironically, the Pulitzer Prize Board, which has in the past awarded journalists for doggedly pursuing hidden information, submitted a filing in Florida’s Okeechobee County in January asking for a protective order to keep discovery materials confidential, alleging that Trump sought to "misuse the discovery process in this case to embarrass Defendants and the media more broadly."

 

Trump’s lawyers responded with their own court filing in February, arguing that the "Defendants again seek to wrongfully prevent President Trump, for the fourth time, from obtaining discovery and proceeding with this case by improperly asserting Presidential immunity against him as plaintiff. That request is unlawful, and has no basis in the U.S. Constitution or the law of Florida.”

 

Florida Circuit Court Judge Robert L. Pegg on March 10 denied the Pulitzer Prize Board’s “Motion to Temporarily Stay Civil Action Given Plaintiff’s Status as President of the United States.” The judge rejected this effort to pause Trump’s lawsuituntil after his second presidential term ended.

 

“Should the duties of the president interfere with his ability to perform his obligations in this action, he is certainly entitled to seek appropriate relief,” Judge Pegg wrote. “Should he not do so, yet not comply with the rules of this court, defendants may apply for the appropriate sanctions as they would against any other plaintiff.”

 

A spokesperson for the Pulitzer Board lamented on March 11 that “allowing any president to pursue civil claims against private citizens in state court while simultaneously claiming that private citizens cannot pursue civil claims against him in the same exact court is extremely troubling and should raise concerns for all Americans” and said the Board “is evaluating next steps and remains committed to continuing our defense of journalism.”

Retired Admiral Rogers had also previously expressed a certain level of skepticism about an element of the U.S. intelligence community’s 2017 assessment of alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 election, and also held a dim view of Christopher Steele’s discredited dossier — rejecting efforts by since-fired FBI Director James Comey to include the dossier’s baseless collusion claims in the body of the assessment.

 

It remains to be seen whether the falsity of the award-winning reports by the Post and Times rises to the level of "knowing falsity" required by the First Amendment.

A Canadian woman was left scratching her head at the sight of a rather sizeable disk-shaped UFO spotted hovering over the city of Edmonton.

According to her account submitted to the National UFO Reporting Center, the perplexing anomaly was observed earlier this month by the unnamed witness who recalled that "I saw a big black circle in the sky over the horizon and stopped to watch it when I realized it wasn't a regular aircraft."

Estimating that the anomaly was "the size of a bus or larger," the witness noted that "it was moving around in a way I couldn't understand, like it was undulating."

 

Her suspicion there was something unusual about the object compelled the witness to capture the wondrous scene with her cell phone.

In the footage, she can be heard marveling "what is that" as she watched the weird UFO overhead.

While the witness first thought the oddity could simply be a balloon, she questioned that assessment when "it suddenly accelerated quickly across the sky, then it went way higher up closer to the clouds" where she noticed a similar object "above it even further into the atmosphere."

 

After about two minutes, the pair of UFOs drifted up into the clouds and vanished from sight, leaving the witness wondering what she had just seen.

To that end, as one might imagine, some have suggested that the objects could have been otherworldly visitors because of how strangely they moved through the sky.

Meanwhile, more skeptical viewers posit that the UFOs may have merely been, as the witness initially suspected, errant balloons. What do you think she filmed over Edmonton?

Leavitt, the youngest White House press secretary in U.S. history, began her work in the White House as an intern during President Trump’s first term, later becoming an assistant press secretary under former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany.

 

Last month, Leavitt opened up about her faith during an interview with CBN News, stating that she prays before every briefing.

 

“I think that team prayer before is just a moment to be silent and still and ask God for confidence and the ability to articulate my words, knowledge, prayer, protection, and it is a nice moment to reset. It’s the last thing I do before I go out there, and then it just gives me the confidence to do a briefing,” she said.

 

She went on to state that her faith is “incredibly important.”

NJ charges 39 people including councilman in gambling investigation linked to crime family

 

Thirty-nine people, including a Passaic County councilman, have been charged for their roles in a North Jersey gambling operation that generated $3 million in illegal funds, state officials said Friday.

 

The defendants are facing charges of racketeering, conspiracy to promote gambling, money laundering and other gambling offenses, Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin said in a news conference Friday morning. The charges were the culmination of a two-year investigation into alleged illegal activities tied to organized crime.

 

Platkin's announcement comes two days after law enforcement officials executed search warrants at a dozen locations throughout North Jersey, including poker clubs in Totowa, Garfield, and Woodland Park.Among those arrested were Anand Shah, 42, a Prospect Park borough councilman.

 

The high-level managers included several alleged members of the Lucchese crime family. Among those arrested this week were George Zappola, 65, of Red Bank; Joseph Perna, 56, of Belleville; John Perna, 47, of Little Falls; and Wayne Cross, 75, of Spring Lake.

US Avatar Program is Real

In his latest update, JP describes being invited to be part of an avatar program run out of Eglin Air Force Base, Florida.

JP was summoned to the secret Eglin facility where he was shown an avatar program using multiple soldiers hooked up to an advanced technology system where their consciousness could be monitored and transferred.

When JP asked the doctors what the avatars looked like, there was a reference to clones built in distant facilities such as Jupiter who would be used.

 

JP was told that he had actually been used in the avatar program previously but has no recollection.

It’s possible that JP missions to Ganymede, may have involved him being transferred there via the avatar program rather than spacecraft.

JP says that while he declined the opportunity to go on another missions via the avatar program, he is willing to do so in future.

In addition to Eglin, JP says that similar avatar programs are run out of two other military facilities he is familiar with: MacDill AFB and Navsciatts, Mississippi.

The IRS Isn’t Going Away, and This Is How We Know

As the 2024 campaign neared its send, candidate Donald Trump began promising that, if elected, he would support the elimination of income taxes. Shortly after he was sworn in, Trump then began saying he planned to abolish the Internal Revenue Service. The Trump team claimed in each case that it could raise enough tax revenue from tariffs to replace tax revenue from income taxes.

 

By March, however, Trump began backtracking, and his administration announced that the new goal was to eliminate income taxes for people making under $150,000 per year.

 

That last development on its own tells us that the IRS isn’t going away. If people making more than $150,000 are still going to pay income tax, then there will still be an IRS to which we’ll need to send tax returns to prove we’re not making more than $150,000.

 

But even if we ignore that problem, there are at least two other reasons why we can be sure the IRS isn’t going anywhere. The first way we know this is from the fact that the Trump administration is only talking about “abolishing” the progressive individual income tax. Administration mouthpieces have said nothing at all about getting rid of the income taxes known as “payroll taxes” that every wage earner pays.

 

The second way we know that the IRS isn’t going away is that taxes on imports—i.e., tariffs—simply aren’t going to bring in enough revenue to keep funding all the popular spending programs that Trump clearly has no interest in cutting.

 

Payroll Tax: The Income Taxes All Workers Pay

 

When politicians talk about “the income tax” they virtually always mean the progressive individual income tax. This tax is paid mostly by the top 50 percent of earners. The bottom fifty percent of earners pay an average income tax rate of 3.3 percent.

 

But there is another income tax paid by all wage earners, regardless of income level, and that is the payroll tax. There is a reason why politicians never mention this income tax: it is connected to the very popular welfare programs known as Social Security and Medicare. The Social Security tax in 2025 is 12.4 percent. The Medicare tax is an additional 2.9 percent. Half of this is paid by the employee and half is paid by the employer. Of course, the employee really pays for both halves because employers effectively reduce wages to pay the payroll tax.

 

The money collected from these taxes goes into the general fund, and not into any sort of “trust fund.” That means it’s simply an income tax that’s used to beef up federal revenues. It is true enough, though, that without this tax, it would be much harder for the federal government to collect enough revenue to keep Social Security and Medicare funded at its present levels. The feds need today’s workers to keep slaving away and paying the payroll tax so it can be handed over to today’s pensioners.

 

This is why politicians never talk about getting rid of the payroll tax. It would be political poison to suggest that one of the biggest sources of revenue for old-age welfare programs is going away. If politicians did this, ARRP-type activists would go nuts.

 

So, politicians aren’t likely to get rid of the payroll tax, and that means there needs to be a government agency to keep track of everyone’s wages and make sure that the tax gets collected. Which agency is that? Well, since 1937, it has been the Internal Revenue Service. As the IRS’s history page reads:

 

Payroll Withholding On August 14, 1935, Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act. Employees originally paid one percent of the first $3,000 of their salaries to finance the benefits. The law required a new system of tax withholding, which the Bureau of Internal Revenue had to collect… [emphasis added.]

 

By the way, my readers will probably not be shocked to learn that the payroll tax has increased over time. Like so many taxes, it started out “small” and then got a lot larger. In 1937, when it was introduced, the payroll tax was 2 percent:

Any payroll tax of any kind is going to require an agency to collect it and monitor earnings. That’s the IRS. It’s entirely possible that Trump might rename the IRS to something like “The Department of Making America Great Again” but whatever we might call it, it will just be some form of the IRS. So, until Trump and his spokespeople start talking explicitly about abolishing all taxes on income—and not just the progressive income tax—then we know he isn’t serious about getting rid of the IRS.

Tariff Revenue Won’t Match Income Tax Revenue

 

The second reason why the Trump administration is not really getting rid of all income taxes or the IRS is this: tariffs won’t bring in enough revenue to keep up with the federal government’s big spending plans.

 

As of 2024, “customs duties”—i.e., tariffs—made up two percent of all federal revenues. That includes the new tariffs put in place by Trump, and kept in place by Biden, in recent years. The total revenue is only $80 billion. While that’s two percent of all revenue, it’s only 1.2 percent of all federal spending. Remember that federal spending is far larger than federal revenues, and the federal government will likely run a deficit of at least two trillion this year.

 

In other words, the $80 billion in revenue produced by tariffs is a drop in the bucket.

In contrast, the progressive individual income tax brings in about 49 percent of all federal revenue. In addition, the payroll tax brings in 35 percent.

 

If Trump thinks he’ll replace all income taxes with tariff revenues, then he’ll need to increase tariff revenue from $80 billion to about $4.1 trillion. That is, Trump will have to find a way to increase tariff revenues by fifty-one fold.

 

That would just cover current revenue. If we want tariffs to actually eliminate the deficit, too—which is roughly two trillion more than tax revenue—tariff revenue will have to go up even more.

 

People who think this seems plausible might say things like “well Trump will get rid of the deficit and cut federal spending using DOGE.” People who say things like this are basically saying “I am bad at arithmetic.”

 

Currently, the best-case scenario offered by DOGE is that it wants to cut a mere $1 trillion in federal spending. This is almost certainly complete fantasy, but for the sake of argument let’s assume DOGE will be able to do that. This wouldn’t even eliminate the deficit, and the remaining deficit would still be more than a trillion dollars. That would mean that next year’s total for federal spending will still be about $5.7 trillion. To close the gap between revenue and spending, tariff revenue will need to increase by at least another trillion. So, can Trump just increase tariff rates by sixty fold? Some protectionists might love that, but it would also mean that people would stop buying imported goods. That means they’ll stop paying tariffs, and tax revenue will plummet, but so would the standard of living. Even as revenues fell, though, most Americans would continue to demand all the usual spending. Politicians wouldn’t dare cut military spending or Social Security spending, and Federal deficits would skyrocket. The Federal Reserve would have to start buying up Treasurys to keep interest rates from running sky-high. This would mean more money printing and high levels of inflation.

 

America’s federal politicians aren’t willing to risk any of that. They won’t even talk about getting rid of the payroll tax because that brings up the issue of cuts to Social Security. Politicians want to keep spending at current levels, and politicians know that price inflation is very unpopular with the voters.

A Pennsylvania judge was convicted of shooting her sleeping boyfriend in the head.

 

Sonya McKnight, a magisterial judge in Dauphin County, shot her sleeping boyfriend in the temple last February after the victim, Michael McCoy tried to end their relationship and told her to move out.

 

McCoy, who miraculously survived but is now blind in one eye, told police he woke up “with massive head pain” and couldn’t see. McKnight tried to convince him that he shot himself.

 

McKnight was convicted of attempted murder and aggravated assault on Wednesday.

 

This wasn’t the first time McKnight shot a romantic partner. She reportedly shot her ex-husband in the groin after an argument over furniture. She wasn’t charged for that shooting because she said she was acting in self-defense.

The Daily Mail report says that the company claims the ad was a staff training "test" that was mistakenly published. Sure.

Navy fires commanding officer, command master chief of expeditionary security squadron

 

Navy Cmdr. Brett Robblee and Command Master Chief Felix Phillips were both fired on Friday.

 

Both the commanding officer and command master chief of Maritime Expeditionary Security Squadron 4, based in Virginia Beach, Virginia, were fired on Friday, the Navy announced.

 

Cmdr. Brett Robblee and Command Master Chief Felix Phillips were relieved “due to a loss of confidence in their ability to perform leadership duties,” a brief Navy news release says.

 

The Navy has not said publicly exactly why Robblee and Phillips were fired. All military branches use the euphemism “loss of confidence” to avoid providing the exact reason why commanding officers and senior enlisted leaders are fired. The vague term encompasses a variety of reasons, including problems at work and personal issues.

 

“The Navy maintains the highest standards for its leaders and holds them accountable when those standards are not met,” the Navy news release says.

 

According to the Navy, Maritime Expeditionary Security Forces, which oversee subordinate expeditionary security groups and squadrons, operate at sea and near shore, including in bays and harbors. Their primary role is to conduct security operations in those coastal waterways.

 

Robblee assumed command of the squadron in June and Phillips reported to the unit in October. They have both been temporarily reassigned to the staff at Navy Expeditionary Combat Command.

 

Capt. Jason Labott and Command Master Chief Clayton Alek-Finkelman have assumed the duties of the squadron’s commanding officer and senior enlisted leader respectively.

With personal debt mounting and his bank accounts hemorrhaging from overdraft fees and missed mortgage payments, Flanagan allegedly began siphoning money from the nonprofit — ultimately embezzling at least $36,000 through wire transfers, PayPal, and official checks.

 

Flanagan allegedly used the association’s funds for:

 

$10,000 to fund his own political campaign

 

$1,000+ on men’s ties, dress shirts, and sports coats

 

Hundreds of dollars for psychic readings

Flanagan allegedly created fraudulent expense reports and even logged into the HBA’s bookkeeping system using another employee’s credentials to conceal the theft.

 

According to the U.S. Attorney, he fabricated phony receipts and labeled luxury items as “office supplies” or “travel expenses.”

A minesweeper and a border guard ship drove a tanker for Russian oil into Estonia

Estonia detained the Kiwala tanker, which was carrying oil cargo to Ust-Luga, to check documents. The vessel is under sanctions EU and UK. AIS data show that the border ship and the minesweeper of the Estonian Navy forced the tanker to turn off the route in neutral waters.

 

The Kiwala tanker was heading from the Indian port of Sika to the Russian port of Ust-Luga and did not reach the oil terminal 150 miles away. In the economic zone of Estonia in the Baltic Sea, which is neutral waters, the ship was detained by the Estonian Navy and Coast Guard. Judging by the AIS data of the vessels, the 244-meter sub-sanctioned tanker was forced to turn off the route for more than an hour.

"Early this morning, the naval forces detained the Kiwala oil tanker in the Gulf of Finland. The ship arrived from the port of Sika in India and headed east. Port of destination — Ust-Luga in Russia, "— said the commander of the Estonian Navy Ivo Vark, reports Rostimees.

 

"The ship is anchored in Muuga Bay. The purpose of the detention is to check the documents of the vessel and its legal status. The detention and the investigation are in no way related to damage to critical infrastructure, and the investigation will be conducted by the competent authorities on the ship," the Navy commander said.

 

According to him, there are suspicions that the vessel has neither a flag nor insurance. It is also under EU sanctions due to the transportation of Russian oil at a price above the limit set by the G7 and the EU.

 

The director of the maritime service of the Transport Department, Kristian Truu, said that technical inspections were being carried out on the ship.

 

"It is safe to say that the tanker is part of a shadow fleet that uses the Baltic Sea to transport prohibited goods. The same is with this tanker," said Veiko Kommusaara, Deputy Director General of the Estonian Police and Border Guard Department. — A vessel without a flag. Such vessels are not allowed to sail."

 

According to Dostimees, the operation to detain the tanker began at three o'clock in the morning on April 11.

Progressive organizations say detention of Rumeysa Ozturk violates ‘the most basic constitutional rights’

 

Twenty-seven US Jewish groups on Thursday filed legal support for an anti-Israel student from Tufts University in Massachusetts who was detained by the government.

 

The student, Rumeysa Ozturk, was taken in by federal authorities last month as part of a broader crackdown on non-citizen activists by the Trump administration. The effort is being done in the name of antisemitism but has sparked concerns among Jewish groups.

 

Ozturk wrote an anti-Israel op-ed in her campus newspaper last year. Her detention by plainclothes officers on a city street was caught on video and caused alarm among many observers, including Jewish groups, due to concerns about legal protections, due process, and free speech.

 

The organizations backing Ozturk filed an amicus brief in her legal case in federal court. An amicus brief is a legal document filed by outside parties to a case who have an interest in its proceedings, often to offer arguments to the court.

“Arresting, detaining, and potentially deporting Ozturk does not assist in

eradicating antisemitism. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem announces everyone will need a REAL ID to fly starting MAY 7.

 

Starting May 7, 2025, the Transportation Security Administration will begin enforcing a rule that has been quietly approaching for two decades. Every U.S. traveler aged 18 or older must present a REAL ID-compliant license or an approved federal ID, such as a passport, to board domestic flights. No exceptions. This stems from the 2005 REAL ID Act, passed in the wake of 9/11, intended to prevent forgery and strengthen national security through standardized identification.

 

The change will affect millions of passengers. Roughly one in five Americans still don’t carry an ID that meets the new standard. That translates into a potential flood of confusion at airports nationwide. Travelers arriving at checkpoints with a standard license may find themselves pulled aside for additional screening—or denied boarding altogether.

 

REAL ID cards are issued by state DMVs but follow federal requirements. You can spot one by the star stamped in the upper corner. It’s a subtle symbol, but without it, you’re out of luck at the airport gate. Military IDs, passports, and trusted traveler cards will still qualify. But those relying solely on a driver’s license must upgrade now or face consequences at the terminal.

 

Most travelers already comply. According to TSA, about 81% of people passing through checkpoints show acceptable IDs today. That leaves nearly 20% vulnerable to travel disruptions. The Department of Homeland Security has been sounding the alarm for years, but many Americans remain unaware of the deadline.

 

This isn’t a travel suggestion. It’s a federal mandate. Starting next spring, showing up to the airport without proper identification will mean staying grounded. No excuses, no delays, no boarding.
