Linda Sarsour (born 1980)[1] is an American political activist. She was co-chair of the 2017 Women's March, the 2017 Day Without a Woman, and the 2019 Women's March. She is also a former executive director of the Arab American Association of New York. She and her Women's March co-chairs were profiled in Time magazine's "100 Most Influential People" in 2017.

 

A Muslim of Palestinian descent, Sarsour first gained attention for protesting police surveillance of American Muslims, later becoming involved in other civil rights issues such as police brutality, feminism, immigration policy, and mass incarceration. She has also organized Black Lives Matter demonstrations and was the lead plaintiff in a suit challenging the legality of the Trump travel ban.

Black Lives Matter

Following the shooting of Michael Brown, Sarsour helped to organize Black Lives Matter protests. Sarsour helped form "Muslims for Ferguson", and she traveled to Ferguson with other activists in 2014.[6][13] She has continued to work extensively with BLM ever since.[5][14] Sarsour became a regular attendee at Black Lives Matter demonstrations as well as a frequent television commentator on feminism.[7]

These leaks that the White House is calling them, that have in some way compromised the dissemination of information adieu with the strike on the Iranian nuclear facilities. Somehow this is a big controversy. Okay, but here is the elephant in the room that nobody is talking about.

 

Donald Trump is saying and Mark Rubio and Pete Hague said, they're all saying that these leaks, these intelligence leaks that supposedly contradict the official narrative that they destroyed these facilities, that they were fake news, right?

 

So why is it then, if this is all fake news, why is Trump seeking to limit classified info sharing with Congress after the so-called false Iranian leaks that are trying to denigrate the pilots, as they're saying. It's always about, you know, that now they're trying to say that any criticism of the adventures, the misadventures of the military-industrial conflicts are somehow criticizing the troops, that whole thing. You got to support the troops, right?

 

I'm telling you, they're up to something. Okay, they are up to something and something stinks with all of this.

 

And approaching issues like this, where they're doing so much damage control, do you notice that? Every single one of them, Hegseth, Gabbard, Levitt, Rubio, they're all coming out of the woodwork and saying, no, no, no, no, this is the case, we just completely destroyed that place, right?

 

Now, I have a theory as to what's going on here.

 

I think they have much bigger plans for this war in Iran. And for starters, if it didn't work, I want you to consider what they just committed to. And we got to talk about some Trump tweets and things of that nature as well, that are just completely unhinged.

 

Anyways, so consider that this misadventure of the U.S. military-industrial complex required seven B-2A Spirit long-range stealth bombers, 14 massive ordnance penetrators, which is probably the bulk of those conventional munitions that are at the disposal of the United States military, because they only had a couple dozen to start. A couple dozen in the entire arsenal. These are 30,000 pound bombs. Now, those seven bombers were accompanied by F-22 Raptors, F-35s, and 52 aerial refueling tankers for one mission. So do the math on how much that one mission would have cost the American taxpayer to save somebody over there in the Middle East, we're told, right?

 

Now, the tweet that Trump made today, I can't even make heads or tails of it.

What is he trying to say here? Something weird is going on with all of this. It just makes no sense.

So you don't think that can't happen again? History that fought harder and more competently than Benjamin Netanyahu.

 

Okay, now the supposed leak, right, that they keep going on about, they were all doing damage control today. Tulsi Gabbard, Pete Hegg says, no, no, this thing was a total success. Why are they saying that? Because it's all part of the plan. You need the Iranians to let their guards down.

Now, interestingly, they're saying that the leak involved details from a classified defense intelligence agency. Okay. Pete Hegseth said, we obliterated Iran's nuclear sites. They claim that the nuclear program was set back years. Now, if you're the Iranians, are you going to debate this? You're going to be like, oh, they actually believe this, right? But the problem is they're selling it too hard. Look, this isn't even a very elaborate scam. It's only thinking a few moves ahead. These people are very Machiavellian in their machinations. They're good liars, and they know how to put on a show. And right now they're trying to fool the Iranians into thinking that they believe that the Iranian nuclear program is done, when they know full well that it isn't, and that they're going to go back in to try to finish the job at some point in the future. Not that nuclear weapons are the biggest concern of these people. Yes, it is a concern, but it's primarily the resistant regime. Because even if Iran gets a nuclear weapon, the likelihood that they would use it and then essentially create the conditions for their total destruction is very low.

 

President Trump declared that the nuclear program was destroyed, obliterated, says that they'll never be attempt, they'll never will be another attempt to build nuclear weapons, they claim. Did they do some kind of back-channel deal? We really don't know, because everything that the Iranians are doing right now is telegraphing otherwise, abandoning the non-proliferation treaty, disallowing the International Atomic Energy Agency to come in and inspect these facilities, right? So, if this was true, then they wouldn't be doing all these things. So, something weird is happening behind the scenes. Now, it could just be, and I just thought about this, if the Russians and the Iranians now have some unwritten pact, and Washington knows it, that if they attack you again, we're going to come to your assistance. That could be what caused them to put the brakes on this, and not only that, China as well, but it could be that this is the Day X that we talk about.

 

And the reason why I know this is because I follow a lot of accounts which are, some of the accounts are being retweeted by Trump, like the one Israeli open source Intel account that tweeted out Fordow is gone, and then Trump retweeted that. These guys, as well as a handful of others, have been all tweeting in unison, yep, the war's over, you know, case closed, mission accomplished.

 

And it's like, wait a minute, you're being a little too obvious about this, you know what I mean?

 

Why is Donald Trump posting, and he literally posted this today, the parody of Barbaran. You guys have all heard the Bomb Iran song. A Radical Company is Paying Supreme Court Justices Millions And that has crippled the Court.

Last year, Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, despite being in her early 50s and having an undistinguished career before her affirmative action appointment, published a memoir.

 

You might be forgiven for having missed it when “Lovely One” came out. As the media politely notes, it was “briefly” on the New York Times bestseller list and is now going for half price on Amazon. That is mostly to be expected of the ghostwritten memoir of an obscure judge.

Except that Jackson received a $893,750 advance for her memoir and is now reporting $2 million in profits last year. These would be record numbers for a Supreme Court Justice’s biography from a book that hardly anyone had noticed when it came out. And while books can become unexpected successes once released, there was little sign of that happening.

 

The actual sales figures have not been made public and perhaps ‘Lovely One’ sold millions of copies even while hardly anyone noticed before ending up in the remainder bin a year later. Certainly no one in the same media that pursued every living member of the Thomas family to find if anyone had ever done them a favor actually bothered obtaining the sales figure.

 

Even when the money was coming from an avaricious foreign publisher which has deluged Supreme Court justices with millions of dollars in generous publishing deals.

 

After Jackson’s memoir, Penguin Random House will be publishing Justice Amy Coney Barrett’s book for which she received a $2 million advance. That’s money the publisher seems even less likely to recoup considering that Barrett is hated among leftists and has a mixed approval rating among conservatives. Past polls show that the majority of the country can’t even name a single Supreme Court justice, yet they are receiving celebrity level advances for books no one cares about.

 

Penguin’s payouts previously made headlines when five Supreme Court justices, including Jackson and Barrett, had to recuse themselves from a case involving allegations of plagiarism by racist Hamas supporter Ta-Nehisi Coates whose works, including a book describing 9/11 firefighters as “not human to me”, were widely backed and promoted by Penguin.

 

The ‘Penguin’ recusals successfully allowed Coates to triumph in that latest court case.

Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor had been previously criticized for not recusing herself in cases involving Penguin which had paid her over $3 million. And the current Supreme Court is so badly conflicted over its Penguin cash that it can no longer decide cases involving it.

And Justice Jackson making millions for a ghostwritten memoir after spending less time on the bench than most dustcloths is an equally obvious exercise in cashing in, not literary inspiration.

 

Judges putting their names on things to make money is not illegal, and maybe after this, Justice Jackson will have her own line of dish towels, sneakers or crypto coins, but Bertelsmann has not only monopolized the American publishing market, but has monopolized the market for justices. And considering its radical politics and vast ambitions, that is a major problem.

 

What happens when Bertelsmann triggers a court case with major legal implications and once again a quorum of justices can’t be found to sit on it?

Iran and six major world powers including the EU reached a nuclear deal today (14 July), capping more than a decade of on-off negotiations with an agreement that could potentially transform the Middle East.

 

Under the deal, sanctions imposed by the United States, European Union and United Nations would be lifted in return for Iran agreeing long-term curbs on a nuclear program that the West has suspected was aimed at creating a nuclear bomb.

 

Reaching a deal is a major policy victory for both US President Barack Obama and Iran's President Hassan Rouhani, a pragmatist elected two years ago on a vow to reduce Iran's diplomatic isolation.

 

Both men face scepticism from powerful hardliners at home after decades of enmity between countries that referred to each other as "the Great Satan" and a member of the "axis of evil".

 

Final talks in Vienna involved nearly three weeks of intense round-the-clock negotiations between US Secretary of State John Kerry and Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.

 

Western diplomats said under the final agreement, Iran had accepted a "snapback" mechanism, under which some sanctions could be reinstated in 65 days if it violated the deal. A UN weapons embargo would remain in place for five years and a ban on buying missile technology would remain for eight years.

 

"All the hard work has paid off and we sealed a deal. God bless our people," one Iranian diplomat told Reuters on condition of anonymity.

 

But hostility to the agreement from Washington's closest ally in the Middle East was immediate.

 

Netanyahu denounces ‘historic mistake’

 

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the agreement reached as a historic mistake and said he would do what he could to block Iran's nuclear ambitions.

 

"Iran is going to receive a sure path to nuclear weapons. Many of the restrictions that were supposed to prevent it from getting there will be lifted," Netanyahu said at the start of a meeting with Dutch Foreign Minister Bert Koenders in Jerusalem.

 

Iran will get a jackpot, a cash bonanza of hundreds of billions of dollars, which will enable it to continue to pursue its aggression and terror in the region and in the world. This is a bad mistake of historic proportions."

 

Iran's Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, and EU's Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini are expected to read a joint statement, diplomats said.

 

The deal will still face scrutiny by the US Congress, controlled by opposition Republicans who are skeptical of the Obama administration's overtures to a country that has been an enemy since Iranian revolutionaries stormed the US embassy in Tehran in 1979.

 

US allies in the region, particularly Israel and Saudi Arabia, are also worried about an agreement that would benefit Iran.

 

Tehran does not recognize Israel and supports its enemies. Arab states ruled by Sunni Muslims, particularly Saudi Arabia believe Iran supports their foes in wars in Syria, Yemen and elsewhere.

 

But there is also strong reason for the United States to improve its relations with Iran, as the two countries face a common foe in Islamic State, the Sunni Muslim militant group that has seized swathes of Syria and Iraq.

The agreement reached today in Vienna represents a breakthrough, bringing to an end a 13-year nuclear standoff, Council President Donald Tusk stated today (14 July).

 

If fully implemented, the agreement could be a turning point in relations between Iran and the international community, paving the way to new avenues of cooperation between the EU and Iran. Geopolitically, it has the potential to be a game changer.

 

All the parties who worked so hard to achieve this agreement deserve our congratulations, in particular High Representative Federica Mogherini, whose relentless facilitation of the talks among the three EU partners, the US, Russia and China is evidence of the constructive role the European Union plays in global affairs.

 

The text of the agreement is precise; we must now join forces to see it through, taking into account regional sensitivities.

 

The announcement of a nuclear deal in Vienna by foreign ministers with Iran today appears to be one which has 'probity' and which represents a 'victory over the obstructionists on all sides,' say Socialist and Democrat MEPs.

"Given further objections expected in the US Congress, European countries must demonstrate good faith to Iran by showing determination to implement Europe's own obligations", said a joint statement from the S&D Group, president Gianni Pittella MEP, and the S&D Group foreign affairs coordinator, Richard Howitt MEP.

 

Speaking after the announcement, Pittella said:

"We consider today’s agreement with Iran on its nuclear programme as a very positive step which could strengthen EU relations with Teheran. This agreement opens new avenues for constructively engaging with Iran on regional security issues, such as our common fight against ISIS/Daesh; the end of civil war in Syria and stabilisation of the situation in Iraq; and Afghanistan.

"The S&D Group congratulates EU high representative Federica Mogherini for the very constructive and effective role she played in steering the talks to this historical agreement. It is a great example of success that Europe's common foreign policy can achieve when there is leadership, common purpose and unwavering commitment to world peace and effective multilateralism.

"Following these positive developments I call on the EU to move quickly in order to establish a permanent delegation in Tehran."

 

The European Jewish Congress (EJC) reacted with deep disappointment to the news of a deal between the six world powers and Iran over the latter’s nuclear program.

 

“The details emanating from the negotiations in Vienna are extremely troubling,” said Dr. Moshe Kantor, President of the EJC. “On almost all of the major sticking points, Iran appears to have come out stronger and this deal will prove to be a prize for radicalism and seen as a Western surrender.”

 

“Iran, the biggest sponsor of terrorism and deeply involved in numerous bloody conflicts across the region and beyond, will now become further emboldened and its goal of becoming the regional power in a turbulent region is closer to fruition.”

 

Dutch MEP Marietje Schaake (D66/ALDE) said, "This is a day of historic importance for the entire world, but especially for the people in Iran. They have been suffering under sanctions and the country's isolation. I congratulate the negotiators for their endurance and commitment to reaching this important result.The EU must make sure the sanctions relief does not fuel a grey economy. Instead, the EU's focus should be on the wellbeing of Iranians, their human rights and fundamental freedoms first and foremost."

 

"Now that the hurdle of the negotiations is largely out of the way, space opens up for more political focus on other important topics. It is now key to seek cooperation and progress on counter terrorism and regional stability. Iran plays a vital role in helping the Assad regime in Syria. The EU cannot sit back while people are being killed every day, and the war in Syria rages on. Iran has contributed billions to strengthening the government in Damascus as well as militia on the ground. It must now choose to be part of the solution and the end of the war instead."

Former Secretary of State John Kerry warned of the challenge of permanently eliminating the threat of Iran obtaining a nuclear weapon, noting the institutional memory remains even if the facilities are destroyed.

 

“You cannot bomb away the memory of how to make a bomb. You can’t bomb away the knowledge that they have developed,” Kerry said Monday in an interview on CNN International’s “Amanpour.”

 

“You can’t bomb away the broad array of technicians who’ve been working on this for years, who will go back to work if that’s the mission they’re given by the leadership of the country,” he continued.

 

“And one of the dangers here is that the more this goes on in a military way, the more power goes to the worst defenders within Iran, the IRGC. And that’s not good for anybody,” Kerry said, using an acronym for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

 

Kerry — who played a key role in brokering the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action in the Obama administration — reflected on his experience negotiating with Iran a decade ago and said, “I do think people have to be realistic here in understanding what the choices are.”

 

“Iranians — Iran— is a proud, proud, proud nation,” he said. “One of the things I learned in my negotiations was the level of pride was just enormous. They also have been committed to the destruction of Israel. That’s a cultural, almost religious, component of their policy. And so it’s very hard to say what exactly is going to bring them back to the table.”

 

The interview was conducted before President Trump announced the U.S.-brokered ceasefire deal between Iran and Israel, which appears to remain in effect despite some early claims that each side violated the agreement.

The origins of the Islamic Movement can be traced back to the late years of Mandatory Palestine. Early organization began in the days of the 1936–39 Arab revolt in Palestine, however, it only began gaining momentum after World War II as a result of cooperation between the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem Haj Amin al-Husseini and the Muslim Brotherhood, which is the parent movement of the Islamic Movement in Israel.[5]

The Six-Day War in 1967 caused renewed Palestinian support, both for the Palestine Liberation Organization, which had transformed from a puppet organization to a militant movement, and for Islamic Palestinian movements, among them the Islamic Movement in Israel. The newly created contact between Israeli Arabs and Palestinian Arabs in the territories occupied in 1967, in which the movement had managed to remain somewhat organized, also contributed to this resurgence. As part of the new contracts, members of the Islamic Movement in Israel were sent to study in religious institutions in the occupied territories.[7] At the same time, the government of Saudi Arabia began to allow Muslim citizens of Israel to perform the Hajj to Mecca (all other holders of Israeli passports are barred from entry into that country).

EU nation to veto new Russia sanctions – PM

Slovakia wants its concerns about Russian energy resolved before voting on the new package of restrictions, Robert Fico has said

 

Slovakia will block the EU’s 18th sanctions package against Russia unless Brussels resolves its concerns over the planned phase-out of Russian energy, Prime Minister Robert Fico has announced. Although the energy measures are set to be presented as trade legislation – thus needing only a qualified majority for approval – Fico argues that they relate to sanctions and should be treated as such.

 

The issue stems from the European Commission’s RePowerEU plan, which aims toeliminate all Russian energy imports by 2028. The initiative is due to be discussed at the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels, alongside the new sanctions package, which mostly targets Russia’s energy and financial sectors. Fico has insisted the measures against Russian energy actually fall under the bloc’s sanctions regime and should be unanimously approved. Fico said Slovakia will request a postponement of the vote and, if denied, will vote against it.

 

“As for tomorrow’s vote, Slovakia will not vote on the 18th sanctions package,” he stated at a parliamentary committee meeting on Thursday. “We consider it to be one package that includes RePowerEU, and we believe that unless the fundamental issues are resolved, we cannot adopt any further sanctions.”

 

He warned that the regulation would endanger Slovakia’s energy security and cause price hikes. He also noted thatBrussels has yet to provide answers on how it would compensate for rising gas pricesor handle potential arbitration with Gazprom. Fico warned that if Slovakia breaks its long-term supply contract with the Russian energy giant, it could face up to €20 billion ($23 billion) in penalties.

 

“Let’s take this seriously. Slovakia has gone from being a country at the beginning of the pipe to a country at the end of the pipe…There may be shortages, prices will go up… RePowerEU is harmful,” he said, calling the initiative “ideological nonsense.”

 

Hungary has also voiced opposition to the plan. EU must prepare to talk to Russia – Macron

The bloc has no wish to arm itself “endlessly” and should negotiate a new security framework with Moscow, the French president has said

 

EU member states should consider resuming contact with Moscow, which was severed after the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in 2022, French President Emmanuel Macron has told reporters.

 

According to Macron, despite being fully committed to boosting military capabilities within NATO, the bloc’sEuropean members have no wish to “endlessly” arm themselves and should in the near future negotiate a new security framework with Moscow.

 

“We are not going to go towards an endless escalation, towards more armament. We must arm ourselves because today there is a gap between our level of armament and that of Russia. And that poses a threat,” Macron stated on Wednesday.

 

“At the same time, we must think about the security framework in which we want to live tomorrow,” he said. “That’s why we need to rethink [the security architecture] in the territories from the Black Sea to the Arctic, to determine how far we are willing to go to defend ourselves and what would be the terms of the discussion with Russia to make it possible to limit military capabilities and restore trust.”

 

Macron advised member states to “think about”restoring dialogue with Russia “right now” in order to be able to negotiate broader European security as part of a potential Ukraine peace deal.

 

Macron made the remarks at the NATO summit in The Hague, where members committed to hiking defense spending to 5% of their GDP annually by 2035 in order to address the alleged “long-term threat posed by Russia to Euro-Atlantic security.” US President Donald Trump has repeatedly urged European NATO members to take more responsibility for their security and increase defense spending. Commenting on the hike, which one reporter called a “one-man whim,”Macron said it is both Washington’s wish and a “European necessity” to become more independent militarily.

 

Moscow has stressed that it has no intention of attacking any NATO member states, dismissing the claims as “nonsense” and scare tactics used by Western officials to justify increased defense spending.Asked to disclose what NATO’s warnings of a Russian threatwere based on at the NATO summit, Secretary-GeneralMark Rutte did not provide any specific intelligence assessments, instead citing general fears.

 

Earlier this week, Russian President Vladimir Putin accused NATO of “fueling global militarization and an arms race” by fabricating “horror stories” to extract money from citizens of member states.

Russian region bans Musk’s Starlink

The governor of the Lugansk People’s Republic has branded the satellite system a security threat

 

The head of Russia’s Lugansk People’s Republic has banned all products from Elon Musk’s company SpaceX, including equipment for the Starlink satellite internet system, citing security concerns.

 

“Starlink technology can be used by the enemy to coordinate its actions, transfer data and deliver strikes on our territory. We cannot afford to ignore this threat,” Leonid Pasechnik said Thursday on social media.

 

The border region, formerly part of Ukraine, declared independence following the Western-backed 2014 coup in Kiev and later voted to join Russia.

 

Russian officials have voiced concerns thatStarlink is not a purely civilian technology and could be used for military purposessince before the ongoing crisis.

 

Musk began supplying Starlink terminals to Ukraine after the conflict escalated in 2022.He claimed the service was resistant to Russian jamming efforts.

 

Satellite communications via Starlink have enabled Ukrainian forces to weaponizeindustrial-gradedrones that can carry the terminals and be piloted remotely from a large distance.

 

Musk said back in 2023 that he had rejected a Ukrainian request to activate Starlink over Crimea, which he interpreted as preparation for strikes on the Russian naval base in Sevastopol.

 

“If I had agreed to their request, then SpaceX would be explicitly complicit in a major act of war and conflict escalation,” he said at the time.

 

During the recent escalation of hostilities between Israel and Iran, Musk faced calls to“put the final nail in the coffin of the Iranian regime”by providing Starlink services “to the Iranian people” – a scenario apparently intended to instigate an uprising.

 

Musk replied with “the beams are on.” Reza Pahlavi, the son of the pro-Western monarch of Iran ousted by the 1979 revolution who advocates for regime change in Tehran, responded, “Thank you, Elon.”

Mossad thanks CIA for help with Operation Rising Lion

The Israeli spy agency promised to “keep a watchful eye” on Iran

 

Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency has thanked the CIA for its close cooperation during attacks on Iran, days after a US-brokered ceasefire came into effect.

 

“I also wish to express my gratitude and appreciation to our key partner – the CIA – for the joint action and the operations that were successfully carried out, as well as to its director, who supported the Mossadin making the right decisions,” Mossad Director David Barnea said in a statement on Wednesday, as quoted by AFP.

 

Israeli agents reportedly smuggled drones into Iran, which were used to assassinate senior commanders and nuclear scientists as part of Operation Rising Lion, launched on June 13. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the attacks, accompanied by airstrikes across Iran, were aimed at preventing the country from acquiring nuclear weapons.

 

The US joined the strikes on June 22, targeting three nuclear sites, including an underground uranium enrichment center in Fordow.

 

“The Iranian threat, which has endangered our security for decades, has been significantly neutralized,” Barnea said. “We will continue to keep a watchful eye on all known Iranian projects – we are intimately familiar with them – and we will be there, just as we have been until now.”

 

In a separate statement on Wednesday, CIA Director John Ratcliffe said the strikes “severely damaged” Iran’s nuclear program. US media outlets, however, cited an assessment by the Pentagon’s intelligence agency that the attack only managed to delay Iranian nuclear activities by months.

 

Iran, which denies that it has a military nuclear program, has condemned the attacks as unprovoked and responded by firing missiles at Israeli cities and launching a barrage at the US airbase in Qatar. Tehran also vowed to continue uranium enrichment.

 

The ceasefire brokered by Washington came into effect on Tuesday and has so far been upheld.

If Christianity were about defending a flag, Jesus would have picked up a sword, but he didn’t….He picked up a cross. Yet, somehow, a movement that is supposed to follow that man, a man that said “My kingdom is not of this world”, has decided that protecting a modern state called Israel, is the center of Christian duty. That blessing it, defending it, and justifying it ….at all costs, is some Holy assignment carved into the marrow of the Gospel. Christianity does not require allegiance to the State of Isreal, that’s not heresy, that’s Scripture. In the Bible, Israel was not a place, it was a person, it was Jacob, wrestling by the river with God until dawn. He was scarred by truth and renamed by Grace. Israel meant “ one who struggles with God”, and then became a name of a people. It is not a flag, not a Government, not a modern nation carved out in 1948 by colonial politics and American guilt. The word cured spiritual identity means “those called into covenant with God”, it has nothing to do with missiles or borders or UN resolutions. When the modern state was named Israel, it was not in a return to biblical obedience. It was a calculated decision, an intentional conflation of nationalism with theology, it was branding, and a powerful one at that. Now, when people hear “ Israel”, they imagine sacred continuity, they imagine divine appointment, they imagine the Old Testament alive and well in 2025, and they are wrong. The Israel of the Hebrew scriptures was not a Western backed nuclear power, it was a wandering tribe, a nation in exile, a people constantly called back to justice, humility and mercy. Often condemned for chasing “Empire”. The Prophets didn’t worship Israel, they condemned it, rebuking it over and over again for war, greed, for turning their back on the poor, the foreigner….the same thing modern Israel does with American funding now. The idea that Christians are commanded to bless the state of Israel, is not in the Gospels, it is not in the Epistles, it is not in the teachings of Jesus Christ. It is , however, in the talking points of televangelists, in the foreign policy of End Times scripters. The Gospel does not preach God’s blessing is tied to a modern border of Tel Aviv or the Iron Dome. Jesus never said “Blessed are those who back the Coup”, Paul never wrote that all who oppose military action are cursed, the Early Church was not fundraising for defense systems or declaring settlements on stolen land as prophetic fulfillment. The Old Testament speaks of Israel as God’s chosen people and land was part of that Covenant. However, in Christian theology, the story shifts, the Covenant widens and the veil tears and the New Israel, the Church, is defined not by birthright and soil, but by Spirit, not by War, but by witness. It is made up of anyone, anyone from anywhere who walks in faith, Jew, Arab, gentile, Roman, enslaved, free……all in Christ Jesus. The New Testament does not tell Christians to defend a country, it tells them to defend the poor. It tells us to defend the outcast, to walk with the wounded, to make peace, not justifications for war. It teaches us to see the face of God, not in a flag, but in a suffering child behind the rubble…yet today, American Christians fly Israeli flags next to crosses, as if those things belong together. They equate criticism of the Israeli government with blasphemy, they pretend that military aid is sacrament, and that genocide is somehow covered under the blood of the New Covenant promise,….and Christ weeps at that lie. If the Gospel means anything, it serves to show that you don’t get to use God as a shield for political violence, you do not get to bomb a refugee camp and quote Jeremiah, you do not get to drop white phosphorus and call it fulfillment of prophecy, that is not Christianity, that’s idolatry. This doesn’t mean that one should hate Israel, it doesn’t mean you can’t believe in its right to exist. It means that if you are a follower of Christ, your loyalty cannot be to any nation, not even one with a biblical name. Your loyalty is to justice, to truth, to love that does not end at a checkpoint or a drone feed. Jesus did not die so that the modern church could become a lobby group, He did not rise so that we could bless bombs, He didn’t preach love for the least of these- so that we could side with whoever has better tanks. If a church is preaching that blessing Israel is the key to God’s favor, they are not a church, they are a cult praying to a carved up god who only speaks Hebrew and votes Republican. The Gospel doesn’t ask anyone to bless a nation. It does, however, ask you to bless the Peacemakers, to comfort the mourners, to defend the innocent and reject violence dressed as virtue. There is no divine nation, there is only divine love. Love doesn’t stop at a border fence, a flagpole, or the edge of a crater where children used to live. Please do not equate Christian morals with the support of Israel.
