Operation Of Australia's Largest Coal Power Station Extended To 2029

 

The 2,880-megawatt Eraring coal-fired power station will continue to operate until 2029, operator Origin Energy has announced.

 

The facility is the country’s largest power station by output and is situated on the banks of Lake Macquarie, north of Sydney in New South Wales (NSW).

 

In an announcement to the ASX (pdf), Origin said the move would reduce risks to system security, highlighted by the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) in its recent Transition Plan for System Security.

 

That report warned that, in NSW alternative energy assets required to “maintain system security are not currently scheduled to be operational before the announced retirement date of Eraring Power Station.”

 

“We’ve taken the decision to extend Eraring’s operations after assessing a range of factors, including the needs of our customers, market conditions and the important role the plant plays in the NSW energy system,” Origin CEO Frank Calabria said.

 

“Good progress has been made on the delivery of new energy infrastructure, including major transmission works and projects like our large-scale battery at Eraring, but it has become clear Eraring Power Station will need to run for longer to support [a] secure and stable power supply.”

 

The decision is aimed at providing more time for the delivery of renewables, storage, and transmission projects, he said. It also reflected uncertainty about the reliability of Australia’s ageing coal and gas fleet.

 

The company originally planned to close it in 2025, then extended it to August 2027 after the NSW Labor government struck a $450 million risk-sharing deal for the ageing facility, which committed the state to covering a percentage of losses up to $225 million per year if given advance notice by Origin.

 

About half of Australia’s national electricity grid is powered by black coal-fired power stations such as Eraring.

 

Government Welcomes Extension

The state’s Minister for Energy Penny Sharpe welcomed the announcement in a statement.

 

“My number one job is keeping the lights on and putting downward pressure on power prices. NSW is making real progress in replacing ageing coal-fired power stations. Since the election, we have increased the amount of renewable energy capacity in operation by almost 70 percent. That’s equivalent to Eraring’s capacity,” Sharpe said.

 

“Current energy security projections show NSW is expected to have sufficient energy supply when Eraring closes in 2029, thanks to new renewable generation and storage coming online.

 

“The agreement reached with Origin in 2024 gets the balance right and has so far not cost NSW taxpayers a single dollar.”

 

The guarantee is due to expire in August 2027.

37 Mexican Nationals Wanted for Serious Crimes Transferred to the United States from Mexico, Including Leaders of Foreign Terrorist Organizations

 

The United States announced today that yesterday evening it took into custody 37 fugitives from Mexico facing a range of federal criminal charges around the country, including charges relating to narcoterrorism, providing material support to a foreign terrorist organization, firearms trafficking, human smuggling, money laundering, and various drug trafficking offenses, including conspiracy to traffic methamphetamine, fentanyl, and cocaine.

 

Among the fugitives taken into U.S. custody are prolific human smugglers, violent arms traffickers, and alleged members of dangerous drug cartels, including those designated as Foreign Terrorist Organizations and Specially Designated Global Terrorists, such as the Sinaloa Cartel, Cártel de Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG), Cártel del Noreste (CDN, formerly Los Zetas), and Cártel de Golfo (CDG) as well as additional drug trafficking organizations, such as the Gulf Cartel, La Linea, and the former Beltrán-Leyva Organization.

 

“This is another landmark achievement in the Trump Administration’s mission to destroy the cartels. These 37 cartel members – including terrorists from the Sinaloa Cartel, CJNG, and others – will now pay for their crimes against the American people on American soil,” said Attorney General Pamela Bondi. “We are grateful for this collaboration with our international partners and will deliver swift, comprehensive justice for members of Foreign Terrorist Organizations who have spent years preying on the American people.”

 

“The FBI has proven that we will hold dangerous criminals accountable for their egregious violent acts, no matter where they try to hide,” said FBI Director Kash Patel. “Today’s announcement of the return of dozens of fugitives from Mexico to face charges is yet another example of the FBI’s relentless work and partnerships here in the U.S. and in Mexico. We will continue to work to put a stop to these drug cartels, arms traffickers, and terrorists from bringing crime, drugs, and firearms to our city streets and neighborhoods.”

 

“The significance of this transfer cannot be overstated. Thirty-seven fugitives were brought from Mexico to the United States to face justice for alleged crimes that have spread violence, threatened public safety, and devastated families. Among them are individuals tied to the Sinaloa Cartel and the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, both designated Foreign Terrorist Organizations,” said Administrator Terrance Cole of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). “We thank the Government of Mexico for standing with us. Former Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Deputy Director Dan Bongino recently revealed the cause behind his viral social media post last summer about being “shocked” to his “core” by the truth behind the agency’s past investigations.

 

During an episode of “The Vince Show” on Monday, Bongino told Vince Coglianese, the editorial director for The Daily Caller and host of “The Vince Show,” that he was prompted to post his viral social media statement after reading documents pertaining to Crossfire Hurricane, the FBI’s controversial investigation into President Donald Trump over allegations that Trump’s campaign colluded with Russia to win the 2016 election.

 

Last July, Bongino shared a statement on X, formerly Twitter, saying, “The Director and I are committed to stamping out public corruption and the political weaponization of both law enforcement and intelligence operations. It is a priority for us.”

 

“But what I have learned in the course of our properly predicated and necessary investigations into these aforementioned matters, has shocked me down to my core,” Bongino added at the time. “We cannot run a Republic like this. I’ll never be the same after learning what I’ve learned.”

 

During Bongino’s interview on Monday,he explained how his social media post was in reaction to documents he read about Crossfire Hurricane and how he was “blown away” at the “guardrails” that “broke down so quickly” in the FBI.

 

“It was basically about Crossfire. I was just reading some stuff about Crossfire,” Bongino told Coglianese. “I was blown away … I lived in this kind of tiny apartment in D.C.…And I’m sitting there, and I’m thinking to myself…I couldn’t believe it happened here. You know, Vince, like having been a Secret Service agent, a police officer, and I hadn’t been in the FBI role that long, but it had been a few months.”

 

“I just thought, gosh, these guardrails just broke down because of people. People are guardrails, not robots … Human beings are guardrails. You know, people are power. And I was just stunned at how many people just let this — just the incredibly poor decision-making,” the former FBI deputy director added. “It blew my mind … I got up the next day, and I just fired that out … I was really shaken by the whole thing, how these guardrails broke down so quickly. It was astonishing.”

 

Bongino, who left his position at the FBI earlier this month,also shared on Monday that he would likely discuss the information he discovered about Crossfire Hurricane “within reason” on his upcoming show on Rumble, which is scheduled to launch on February 2.

Inspector General Michael Horowitz documented 17 major errors and omissions in the FISA applications.Every single one cut against Trump and in favor of continuing surveillance.

An Oklahoma man has been federally charged with threatening to kill U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, "MAGA Republicans" and politicians in a series of comments posted on YouTube, the Justice Department said.

Taylor Ryan Prigmore, 30, was arrested Monday after being accused of posting the comments in several videos between May 9, 2025, and Jan. 17, federal prosecutors said.

"As attacks on law enforcement rise around the country, this Department of Justice will continue to identify and prosecute violent threats against the brave men and women who keep us safe," said Attorney General Pam Bondi. "Hiding behind a screen will not protect you from severe legal consequences."

On Saturday, the FBI was alerted by Google regarding several threatening statements made by a YouTube user alleged to be Prigmore, according to a criminal complaint.

"Based on the content of comments that were uploaded to the YouTube video service, Google believes that there presently exists an emergency involving imminent death or serious bodily injury to a person or persons, and that immediate disclosure to you of certain information is required to avert the emergency," the message from Google to the FBI states.

"The comments have been deleted but are attached to this message for your convenience, as well as information on the account associated with the comments."

Under the username "Adrian Tepes," Prigmore posted threats in the comments sections of several videos, prosecutors said.

"Cvil wr. I can't wait for the opportunity to k*ll people like you. Tell your friends," Prigmore is accused of writing Jan. 17 on a video titled "Virginians to vote on four constitutional amendments."

In another video on the same day, the affidavit alleges, he wrote, "You are late as hell. Prep for civil wr. Prep for dth cmps. Prep for killing federal g*nts."

In another, Prigmore allegedly said he was preparing to kill federal agents and that President Donald Trump "needs to die to save lives."

In other posts, Prigmore appeared angry at Trump for threatening to invoke the Insurrection Act amid violent clashes between ICE agents and anti-ICE agitators in Minnesota, according to the affidavit.

"What is the 2nd amendment for? Ending maga," he is accused of writing. In another, he allegedly urged others users to buy a gun and kill law enforcement officers.

I have come to this board for over 8 years to contribute to the discussion, get updated on the latest digs and investigate our public entities to disclose potential corruption in our government. This is meant to be a good thing.

These attacks are personal in nature, are meant to be degrading and are meant to to achieve a negative response. This smells of those who have been well trained in communist government skill sets. These board contributors only assault and insult and provide nothing to the overall discussion. We call these losers "shills". If you are one - stop. Consider what you are actually accomplishing by your actions…

 

Shills do nothing to me and shills do nothing for me, ergo, they are worthless to society as a whole. The only value on Earth is human labor which is directed toward the creation of a useful product or the offering of a service to others. Shills perform neither of these, therefore, they can be deemed, worthless. Shills only show their immaturity, their ignorance, their arrogance and their lack of education in the real ways of life. Most humans who behave in this manner are probably of an age that is barely beyond the diaper stage of life. Should they actually be of a more advanced age, they probably had adults in their upbringing who were not that far out of diapers themselves and were incapable of training their offspring on the importance of social skills, thus, the resulting offspring is nothing but a pile of flesh that is useless to society as a whole. They offer no "value".

 

I am an American citizen. I was taught to be a productive and helpful citizen amongst my peers. The more productive one is, the greater the earnings potential. There is no limit to the potential which stimulates legions of people to arrive on America's shores to have an opportunity to be free and live a happy and fruitful life. Most of the folks who arrive here come from societies made up of "shills" who simply do nothing for society but "keep it down" under a system of oppression so that the rulers of the oppressive system have an easier time of citizen control.

 

As I mentioned earlier. If you are a shill - stop. Consider your life. Do you want to be of value to the greater society or are your goals to simply be a zero? If the latter, I will warn you that your time on this Earth will be very limited. Humanity has seen a taste of freedom, understands human value, encourages human participation in society and will ultimately reject the "shills" and toss them to the curbside.
