Italy delays presentation of plan to sell Monte Paschi stake (the world's oldest bank)

 

ROME, Dec 29 (Reuters) - Italy, with the agreement of the European Union Commission, will delay to early 2020 the presentation of a plan to sell its stake in Monte dei Paschi di Siena, the Treasury said on Sunday, as the bank struggles to shed bad loans. The plan for the state to offload its 68% stake in the world’s oldest bank by the end of 2021 was supposed to be submitted to the EU executive by the end of this year.

 

The Treasury said in statement it had asked Brussels for the postponement “in the light of, and in line with, the dialog in progress regarding an operation of de-risking for the bank. Monte Paschi was at the forefront of Italy’s banking crisis until a 2017 state bailout was cleared by Brussels, leaving the bank with a tough restructuring plan and the Italian Treasury as its main shareholder. The bank has sold more than 30 billion euros ($33.53 billion) of bad loans since the bailout, but it still held 16 billion in soured debt mid-way through this year, some 16% of its total loans.

 

This stands in the way of a merger with a rival, several sources familiar with the matter have said, and complicates the Treasury’s re-privatization efforts. At a meeting this month, Monte Paschi’s board discussed the possibility that Italy may seek to delay by a year the end-2021 deadline for the Treasury to get out of the bank, a source close to the matter said. However, a government source said this option was not being discussed with the European Commission at the moment.

 

Italy has been in talks with Brussels for months over a plan to accelerate the disposal of Monte Paschi’s soured loans. The Treasury’s plan would see a chunk of the bank’s assets and liabilities transferred to state-owned bad loan manager AMCO, but the Commission is concerned that it may break EU state aid rules. The Commission wants the bank to shed the loans at market value, a source close to the matter said.

 

The plan favored by the Treasury would instead shield the bank from losses by transferring the loans at book value while their market value would be factored in as part of a share swap between the bank and AMCO.

I ran across a little something that I thought was interesting. It seems that when you visit Itanimulli.us (Illuminati spelled backwards) it takes you to the White Houses's website: WhiteHouse.gov. Also when you visit Itanimulli.com, it takes you to the National Security Agency's website NSA.gov.

Some people want to make a conspiracy out of this, and want to know why the White House and the NSA would want an Illuminati domain to point back to their respective sites. This answer took me 1 minute to solve. The answer is that it's not their domain.

I went to GoDaddy.com and did a Who-Is search for the domain's to find out who the owners are. They are owned by a two different men.

I was a bit confused by Q's posts regarding California ballots. For anyone who cares, the rules for voting in primaries varies widely throughout the country. I am from an east coast liberal state that has closed primaries. I was forced to register republican in order to vote for Trump in the primaries. Also needed to register well in advance of the election. Yet, the democratic party in my state would allow voters to register pretty close to the actual election day.

 

California has mixed for democratic party (meaning independents can vote for a democrat in the primary) but Republicans have closed, meaning you would have to be a registered Republican to vote in the primary.

 

I believe these rules are set by the parties themselves, state by state, but I might be wrong. There are several types of primaries:

 

Open Primaries -In an open primary, voters of any affiliation may vote in the primary of any party. They cannot vote in more than one party's primary, although that prohibition can be difficult to enforce in the event a party has a primary runoff election. In many open primary states, voters do not indicate partisan affiliation when they register to vote.

 

Closed Primaries - In a closed primary, only voters registered with a given party can vote in that party's primary. States with closed primaries include party affiliation in voter registration so that the state has an official record of what party each voter is registered as.

 

Semi-Closed Primaries - In a semi-closed primary, unaffiliated voters may choose which party primary to vote in, while voters registered with a party may only vote in that party's primary. Representing a middle ground between the exclusion of independent voters in a closed primary and the free-for-all of open primaries, the semi-closed primary eliminates concerns about voters registered in other parties from "raiding" another party's nominating contest.

What is it you think you are eating? Reporting on how food is raised, investigating food poisoning in most red states is a crime. Reporters are jailed, activists jailed, poisoning our food is now considered national security level technology. Thank fucking republicans, they did it, the pack of ignorant criminal scum.

 

OK, let’s just do yesterday. Went to Scotts Meats in Muskegeon, Michigan, a grass fed beef butcher shop popular for locals, though I am about 35 miles away. I bought 8 pounds of hamburger, light pink stuff, at $1,49 a pound and 4 pounds of thick sliced bacon at $1.19 a pound.

 

This was a test. I will eat burgers about once a week or less. The reason? I live on the 3rd coast, land of fake upscale waterfront restaurants who serve either perch or burgers. Burgers for two plus drink runs with tip around $40.

 

At home I have a kitchen, 8 burners, 4 ovens, professional grill, etc, as though I really fed people. I am a “foodie,” not to the degree Mike Chester is, but classically trained French chef. I have owned restaurants (nightmare) and cooked across Europe.

 

I can make better food than I can get in a restaurant though I have to clean up afterwards, which isn’t worth it, easier starving.

 

Now, let’s take into consideration that buying ground beef is an American tradition, new expensive organic beef at $8 a pound, nice stuff, or “ground Angus sirloin,” very red, very low fat, at $4 plus.

 

So, today I made $1.49 a pound burgers, light pink fatty looking. Fat content…17%. What does this mean? The 93% Angus I was getting contains dye. Also, the grass fed stuff tends to crumble, hard to hold together while the expensive stuff binds nicely because it has plastic in it. (not eyeballs)

 

Let’s talk milk. I do a couple of cappuccinos a day, perhaps a bit more, using an Italian commercial type machine (restaurant thing). Frothed milk is always whole.

 

When I buy some brands of milk, particularly “organic,” it won’t froth. That’s because it contains rice. It is fake milk.

 

Most orange juice is fake as well, corn sweetener, coloring, fake pulp, much of it made from orange peels from Brazil but it costs the same.

I disagree that this is exclusively a D trick. All politicians throw shade to block out the light. The initial Q post which drew the fire suggested Rs were not represented in the overall election (3768-3771). When the anons started shining light to find that the letter was simply for 3 parties which permit votes from non-party affiliates did Q add post 3772 to imply the meaning of the posts were misconstrued and that confusion on the part of Rs would ensue due to this document.

 

I have watched pols closely for years - this set of posts disturb me to the core - they appear to have come from a political operative, not MI. The last post, 3774 I find the most disturbing. These statements:

If we are awaiting "them" to initiate a trial and "they" are well aware that we need them to do the initiation, then why on Earth would they initiate it? It tells me that the white hats do not have it all, because they do not have the leverage to bring charges and begin the trial phase. Their evidence is insufficient (admissibility) to begin this action, so we'll have to wait a little longer.

Flour? Do you bake? What do you think is in that? Some famous brands have up to 20% “other material” which fills the bag and turns out flavorless baked goods. Typically low gluten flour, low protein stuff, is fake. Look at King Arthur or other premium or commercial bakery brands, try bread or pizza with them, huge difference.

 

Remember a few years ago when the biggest manufacturer of medical related pet products killed endless thousands of pets by using fake protein from China? (melamine….the mineral melmac dishes is made from….extremely toxic to mammals)

 

What I am saying is this, if the food you eat comes from a supermarket and they won’t tell you where they got it or it is in a “package,” you are eating fake food.

 

In America you don’t get rice that includes plastic fake rice grains but it shows up in exported American rice, sometimes entirely fake, from China as well, but sold through American companies.

 

We won’t begin to get into filth, rat droppings, antibiotics, hormones or similar.

 

Oh, the buck a pound bacon…it cooked up better than the Sams Club premium brand (sold everywhere else) at $6 a pound that is injected full of water. Made it in the oven and no steam came out.

 

Back during the 30’s the major cookie/cracker company, the national one, was caught using axle grease as leavening. The big national milk company, the one with the cow on the label, was selling chalk water to public schools as milk.

 

Sausage sometimes contained no meat at all and it Britain today, that’s largely true still. Cheap brats in Germany are jello and milk. Their food is worse than ours despite their self righteous crap and “beer laws.”

 

Even in the 1990s, East Grand Rapids public schools was caught buying chemical powdered juices, totally fake, and paying for real juice from a major locally owned dairy, owned by a local religious leader very close to the DeVos family.

 

Poisoning Americans is big business. Who do you think fake food ag industry criminalizes analysis of food or funds anti-vaxx propaganda? Ever consider fake food causes autism?

I decided to forward the domain Itanimulli.com domain to the NSA as a joke… kind of like a rickroll + shock site. I registered the website years ago precisely because it does spell Illuminati backwards, but didn’t really do anything with it for a long time. The Chinese president has put 12 former executives at state-run financial institutions in top posts across the nation amid fears of a financial meltdown.

 

As China struggles to deal with the slowdown of the world’s second-largest economy, it has embarked on a new strategy of placing financial experts in provinces to manage risks and rebuild regional economies.

 

Since last year, Chinese President Xi Jinping (習近平) has put 12 former executives at state-run financial institutions or regulators in top posts across the nation’s 31 provinces, regions and municipalities, including some who have grappled with banking and debt difficulties that have raised fears of a financial meltdown. Only two top provincial officials had such financial background before the last leadership reshuffle in 2012, according to Reuters research.

 

Among the experts promoted is Beijing Vice Mayor Yin Yong (應勇) a former deputy central bank governor, and Shandong Deputy Provincial Governor Liu Qiang (劉強), who rose through the nation’s biggest commercial banks, from Agricultural Bank of China (中國農業銀行) to Bank of China (中國銀行).

 

Another newly promoted official, Chongqing Vice Mayor Li Bo (李波), had until this year led the central bank’s monetary policy department.

 

The appointments — overseeing economies larger than those of small countries — would appear to put those officials in the fast lane as China prepares a personnel reshuffle in 2022, when about half of the 25 members of the Politburo could be replaced, including Chinese Vice Premier Liu He (劉鶴), who is leading economic reform while doubling as chief negotiator in trade talks with the US.

 

“Bankers are now in demand, as local governments are increasingly exposed to financial risks,” said Feng Chucheng, a partner at Plenum, an independent research platform in Hong Kong. “These ex-bankers and regulators are given the task of preventing and mitigating major financial risks,” he said.

 

The appointments have come as economic growth has slowed to its weakest in nearly three decades, while government infrastructure investment has fallen. Five regional banks were hit with management or liquidity problem this year, raising the prospect of devastating debt bombs lurking in unexpected corners. “We need to be well-prepared with contingency plans,” Xinhua news agency said after a major annual economic meeting headed by Xi this month. The economy faced “increasing downward economic pressure amid intertwined structural, institutional and cyclical problems,” it said.

 

With pressures mounting, local governments are expecting to take the lead in managing their financial scares and cutting the cost of rescue with local intervention, analysts said. “Appointing financial vice governors to provinces can help better integrate financial policies into local practice, and to prevent financial risks beforehand,” said He Haifeng (何海峰), director of Institute of Financial Policy at the Chinese Academy of Social Science, a government think tank. “Such appointments have also showcased a change of manner in official appointments,” He said. Financial executives were long shunned for leadership positions.

 

Banks were nationalized after the Chinese Communist Party took power in 1949 and many bankers were purged during the Cultural Revolution. Xi started to stress the importance of financial expertise and to elevate the status of executives in 2017.

 

“Political cadres, especially the senior ones, must work hard to learn financial knowledge and be familiar with financial sectors,” Xi said in a national meeting on financial affairs.

Half of the 12 former financial executives elevated to provincial leadership posts under Xi were born after 1970.

Feng Chucheng, a partner at Plenum, an independent research platform in Hong Kong, told Taipei Times that "Bankers are now in demand, as local governments are increasingly exposed to financial risks."

 

"These ex-bankers and regulators are given the task of preventing and mitigating major financial risks," Chucheng said.

 

The appointments are in response to growth collapsing to a three-decade low in 2019, as traditional monetary policy becomes ineffective to boost the economy.

 

One reason behind the ineffectiveness behind monetary policy in the country could be due to a balance sheet recession of companies that are paying down high debt loads, in an attempt to deleverage, causing investments to decline and contributing to slower economic growth.

 

Taipei Times noted that five regional banks have had "liquidity problems this year, raising the prospect of devastating debt bombs lurking in unexpected corners."

 

He Haifeng, director of the Institute of Financial Policy at the Chinese Academy of Social Science, said: "Appointing financial vice governors to provinces can help better integrate financial policies into local practice, and to prevent financial risks beforehand."

 

And while central banks around the world are cutting interest rates and pumping liquidity into markets on the premise of a return to global growth in 2020, China is currently preparing for a slowing economy and financial armageddon.

US mum on if they'll accept the deal

 

n a move meant to seal the deal on a long-sought Afghanistan peace deal, which would see the US withdraw from the country after 18 years, the Taliban has announced that they are approving a weeklong ceasefire across Afghanistan.

 

The Taliban leadership in Quetta was already reported to be generally in favor of such a move as part of a peace deal, and confirmed it on Wednesday. Taliban council members are broadly supporting the plan.

 

The US and Taliban were on the verge of a peace deal months ago, but President Trump ended the process at the time. With the talks restarted, Trump suggested he was conditioning them on a ceasefire this time, and the Taliban leadership has come through.

 

Exactly when the ceasefire would start is unclear, as it hinges on a peace deal happening and direct talks between the Taliban and Afghan government being scheduled. Some of that is going to depend on where the US stands in all of this.

 

That remains unclear as well, because so far US officials have offered no comments on the situation, and after announcing a “pause” to the peace talks over a recent Taliban attack, it’s not clear how engaged they are at the moment, or if a peace deal is even something they’re looking to work out soon.

US Drone Attacks in Iraq Leave 25 Fighters Killed, 51 Injured - Iraqi Paramilitary Forces

 

The death toll from the drone attacks of the United States against Kata'ib Hezbollah militia in Iraq stands at 25, with 51 people injured, the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces, also known as Hashd al-Shaabi, said in a statement on Monday. Earlier, Hashd al-Shaabi reported of 19 people killed and 35 others injured.

 

The number of casualties may grow, as some remain in critical condition.

 

On Sunday, the US forces have carried out strikes targeting five Kata'ib Hezbollah facilities in Syria and Iraq, including weapons storage locations and command and control bases, the US Defence Department said in a statement. The Pentagon said it was retaliation for the group's recent attack on a US base near the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk.

 

On Friday, the US accused Kata'ib Hezbollah of involvement in a deadly rocket attack on the K1 military base outside Kirkuk. The attack claimed the life of a US civilian contractor and left several US service members with light injuries.

 

No group took immediate responsibility for Friday's attack.

 

Kata'ib Hezbollah, not to be confused with the Hezbollah group of Lebanon, is a paramilitary force with Shia ideology established in 2007 and operating under the Hashd al-Shaabi umbrella. Washington designates them as terrorists.
