"Among countless other unprecedented changes and transformation, the coronavirus pandemic has unveiled an odd divergence within global cultures: the definition of what's deemed "essential" for people across the world, and what things we really can't do without, even though we might not need most of them for survival.

 

As AP reports, in its attempt to slow the spread of the virus, authorities in many places are determining what shops and services can remain open. They're also restricting citizens from leaving their homes. Stay-at-home orders or guidance are affecting more than one-fifth of the world's population. This has left many contemplating an existential question: What, really, is essential?

 

In some U.S. states, golf, guns and ganja have been ruled essential, raising eyebrows and — in the case of guns — a good deal of ire. In many places, booze is also on the list of essentials. Britain at first kept liquor stores off its list of businesses allowed to remain open, but after reports of supermarkets running out of beer, wine and spirits, the government quickly added them.

 

"Recent events clearly demonstrate that the process of designating 'essential services' is as much about culture as any legal-political reality about what is necessary to keep society functioning," said Christopher McKnight Nichols, associate professor of history at Oregon State University.

 

Countries including India and U.S. states are listing the information technology sector as essential. The world's dependency on the internet has become even more apparent as countless people confined to their homes communicate, stream movies and play games online to stave off cabin fever.

 

Several states where marijuana is legal, such as California and Washington, deemed pot shops and workers in the market's supply chain essential. For some, the emphasis is on medicinal uses, not enabling cooped-up people to get stoned.

 

“Cannabis is a safe and effective treatment that millions of Americans rely on to maintain productive daily lives while suffering from diseases and ailments,” Erik Altieri, executive director of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws, said in an email. “It is the very definition of essential that these individuals can still access their medicine at this time.”

 

Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont added gun shops to his list of essential businesses, generating shock and dismay among families of gun violence victims. His spokesman Max Reiss said Lamont is trying not to overly disrupt commerce or interfere with legal rights.

 

Newtown Action Alliance, a group formed after a gunman killed 26 people in 2012 at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, urged Lamont to reconsider, noting a recent surge in gun and ammunition purchases. The group predicted an "increased number of deaths due to unintentional shootings, homicides and suicides.”

 

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton issued a legal opinion Friday saying emergency orders in his state can't restrict gun sales. "If you have a break down in society, well then our first line to defend ourselves is ourselves, so I think having a weapon … is very important for your personal safety,” Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick told a radio interviewer.

 

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf on Tuesday quietly allowed gun shops to reopen, but only by appointment during limited hours if customers and employees comply with social distancing and other protective measures."

Because of the enormous give-aways to the billionaires, deficit-spending by the government will be soaring out of control, and ultimately paper money will plunge in value, which will bring on a global depression that will be even worse than 1929. Some governments will find ways to nationalize the wealth of billionaires and perhaps also of centi-millionaires in order to fund the continuing needs of the public, and there will be a scramble by many of those super-rich to relocate to countries where they still will be able to bribe enough government officials so as to provide safe haven for their accumulated wealth. Graduated exit-taxes will be instituted by any of the industrialized countries that aren’t totally corrupt, but the most extremely corrupt industrialized countries will experience massive capital-flight and a future as a “third world” nation, under extended martial law.

 

On March 22nd, Zero Hedge headlined “‘Stop The Coronavirus Corporate Coup’: Here Is A List Of Everyone Demanding A Bail Out” and Matt Stoller listed the many different categories of mega-corporate lobbyists who were urging the Senators and Representatives, whose campaigns they fund, to bail out their respective industries. The few other news-sites that republished or linked to that list were other alternative-news sites, not any of the mainstream ones. This was a major news-report, which deserved to become a top topic of public conversation, but that didn’t happen; and here is an example of what it said (and which the rest of the press were hiding):

 

Mitch McConnell wants big business to rule, so he’s playing a trick. He is refusing aid to workers. Democrats are negotiating with him to try to get unemployment assistance and social welfare. McConnell knows Dems won’t pay attention to corporate bailouts if he takes the public hostage, and Democrats know that they can hand out favors to big business if they just talk about how they got larger checks for workers.

 

So McConnell will put a bill down in front of Nancy Pelosi, with some good stuff like unemployment insurance, but also the really ugly stuff to hand over America to big business. The corporatists in the Democratic Party will tell her “Pass the corporate coup bill, after all we have to do something right now!” And because she doesn’t have the votes from within her own caucus because of these corporatists, and because she doesn’t particularly care if America is sold off to big business, she will do that.

 

It’s a song-and-dance routine, performed by the two “good cop, bad cop” political Parties, in order to satisfy not only the audience (the voters) but the producers (the billionaires)."

"Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) on March 29 criticized U.S. media outlets for reporting the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) official data on its COVID-19 cases as fact.

 

Rubio said Sunday that media reports stating that the number of COVID-19 cases in the United States had surpassed China were “grotesque.” He called them “bad journalism.”

 

“Some in our media can’t contain their glee & delight in reporting that the U.S. has more #CoronaVirus cases than #China,” he wrote on Twitter. “Beyond being grotesque, its [sic] bad journalism.”

 

“We have NO IDEA how many cases China really has but without any doubt its [sic] significantly more than why [sic] they admit to,” he added.

 

A tracking map published by Johns Hopkins University, which relies on official government data, shows at press time that the United States has 142,502 confirmed CCP virus cases, compared to China, which has an official confirmed case total of 82,149.

 

The Epoch Times refers to the novel coronavirus, which causes the disease COVID-19, as the CCP virus because the Chinese Communist Party’s coverup and mismanagement allowed the virus to spread throughout China before it was transmitted worldwide.

 

Rubio’s comments came after President Donald Trump on Thursday expressed his doubts about official data provided by the CCP that is quoted without challenge in many media reports.

 

“You don’t know what the numbers are in China,” the president said when asked by a reporter whether he was surprised that the United States has surpassed China in the number of cases of the CCP virus."

Azithromycin is marginally less active than erythromycin in vitro against Gram-positive organisms, although this is of doubtful clinical significance as susceptibility concentrations fall within the range of achievable tissue azithromycin concentrations. In contrast, azithromycin appears to be more active than erythromycin against many Gram-negative pathogens and several other pathogens, notably Haemophilus influenzae, H. parainfluenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Urea-plasma urealyticum and Borrelia burgdorferi. Like erythromycin and other macrolides, the activity of azithromycin is unaffected by the production of beta-lactamase. However, erythromycin-resistant organisms are also resistant to azithromycin. Following oral administration, serum concentrations of azithromycin are lower than those of erythromycin, but this reflects the rapid and extensive movement of the drug from the circulation into intracellular compartments resulting in tissue concentrations exceeding those commonly seen with erythromycin. Azithromycin is subsequently slowly released, reflecting its long terminal phase elimination half-life relative to that of erythromycin. These factors allow for a single dose or single daily dose regimen in most infections, with the potential for increased compliance among outpatients where a more frequent antimicrobial regimen might traditionally be indicated. The potential disadvantage of low azithromycin serum concentrations, however, is that breakthrough bacteraemia may occur in patients who are severely ill; nevertheless, animal studies suggest that tissue concentrations of azithromycin are more important than those in serum when treating respiratory and other infections. The clinical efficacy of azithromycin has been confirmed in the treatment of infections of the lower and upper respiratory tracts (the latter including paediatric patients), skin and soft tissues (again including paediatric patients), in uncomplicated urethritis/cervicitis associated with N. gonorrhoeae, Chlamydia trachomatis or U. urealyticum and in the treatment of early Lyme disease. Azithromycin was as effective as erythromycin and other commonly used drugs including clarithromycin, beta-lactams (penicillins and cephalosporins), and quinolone and tetracycline antibiotics in some of the above infections. Some patients with acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis due to H. influenzae may be refractory to therapy with azithromycin (as is the case with erythromycin) indicating the need for physician vigilance, although it should be noted that azithromycin is of equivalent efficacy to amoxicillin in the treatment of such patients. The goal was to produce 100,000 gallons of it every week to be distributed, for free, to schools, government agencies and other needy institutions.

 

Well, that doesn't appear to actually be what's happening. Instead, prisoners are apparently taking hand sanitizer from elsewhere and just re-packaging it and re-branding it as "NYS Clean" sanitizer, according to a new expose from Vice.

 

At the time, Cuomo boasted that the NYS Sanitizer would be better than Purell's due to its 75% alcohol content and its floral scent.

 

He also bragged about the economics: “This is also much less expensive than anything the government could buy—a gallon bottle is $6.10, the 7-ounce bottle is $1.12 our cost, and then there’s a very small size… which is 84 cents. So it’s much cheaper for us to make it ourselves than to buy it on the open market.”

KYIV. March 6 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The vast majority of Ukrainians agree that the most important task of a woman to take care of home and family (83%), and that the most important task of a man is making money (75%).

 

According to the results of a survey conducted by Sociological Group Rating in late February, 78% agree that women more often than men make decisions based on emotions.

 

Some 67% agree that it is unacceptable when men cry (25% - do not agree), while 68% agree that women have less freedom due to family obligations (27% do not agree).

 

Almost half agree (34% disagree) with the thesis that women are less interested than men in occupying responsible political positions. Almost two-thirds of respondents disagree with the statement that women do not have the appropriate knowledge and skills to occupy senior positions in politics, a quarter agree.

It didn't take me long to realize that this whole thing wasn't total bullshit, but I was really kind of waiting on something more concrete to back it up. At this point between the lies coming out about death tolls, Doctors and Nurses I personally know have indicated that whatever this is, this virus isn't what they're claiming it to be.

 

I guess I'm just waiting to see what the real reason is at this point for continuing this charade. Surely POTUS knows what's going on, I have no doubt of that. The lack of clarity and direction Q usually provides us during these times is sorely lacking.

 

I trust POTUS, and he has my allegiance as long as he demonstrates his care for the health and wellbeing of our country, which he has a strong record of. I'm not scare of what's going on right now, just feeling out of the loop.

 

On the positives I'm enjoying watching people get a real sense of what we all here already knew. Non-reliance of foreign entities for the creation of medications and essential supplies, the importance of national borders, creation of jobs here at home, importance of the economy, strengthening families by spending real quality time with each other, demonstrating that we don't need total reliance on public schools, the importance of having supplies and emergency plans for ourselves and our families, the importance of owning a gun, and many others.

Theory out there that the military is going to shut down the internet (hard wire based) and it will be replaced with a free satellite mesh network. Argument is 5G is not a concern because it won't be around long.

Claims of misinformation aside, could this be the real reason biased news outlets have decided to stop covering Trump’s briefings?

Love him or hate him, there’s no denying the man is a ratings goldmine. According to Nielsen, 12.2 million people watched the president’s Monday briefing on Fox News, CNN, and MSNBC – that’s up there with Monday Night Football. And that doesn’t cover the millions more who watched via ABC, CBS, NBC, or online streaming sites. But is that a good enough reason for media outlets to cover him? That’s the question The New York Times asked recently – a question answered by a Seattle area NPR affiliate, KUOW, with a resounding “no.”

 

The Washington radio station cited “a pattern of false or misleading information provided that cannot be fact checked in real time” as the reason to dump Trump. And they’re not alone. The Washington Post’s Erik Wemple calls the decision wise, hinting at Fox News, CNN, and MSNBC that they could learn a thing or two if only they would pay attention. MSNBC and CNN, it seems, took the hint, as staffers of both networks have argued the case against airing Trump’s pressers, saying it likely amplifies the spread of misinformation. The president’s son, Eric, took to Twitter to bemoan the trend:

While the media outlets claim this is all in the name of furthering the truth, the timing is suspicious. The president – who, you may recall, is in the middle of a re-election campaign – is enjoying impressive approval numbers, including amongst many Democrats. He has garnered bipartisan support from both houses of Congress in his handling of the Coronavirus crisis. Even Joe Biden – the man who launched his presidential campaign from the platform that Trump is terrible for the country and must be removed at all costs – has said the president is doing a good job during the emergency and expressed hope for his continued success.

 

The track record of these outlets was already disappointing, thanks to their backfired attempts to bury Trump in negative coverage from the moment he first announced his candidacy. They couldn’t stop him from being elected, they couldn’t get him impeached, and now it seems they can’t get him blamed for COVID-19. How else can they prevent his re-election? Well, if nonstop negative coverage helped Trump win the White House in 2016, perhaps refusing to publish his pressers will cost him the win in 2020. These regular updates have been called by many in the media little more than Trump campaign events, so this move should come as no surprise.

 

What about the claim that the briefings are chock full of lies? The Associated Press took it upon themselves to fact check the president, to once and for all prove either that Trump is a liar or that the anti-Trump media is simply biased. You can likely guess how they ruled on this issue.

 

Thankfully, Liberty Nation’s newest contributor, Dave Patterson, decided to fact check the fact-checkers – and found them woefully wanting. “AP introduced inaccuracy when the writers conflated two quotations, losing precision and making the single quotation wrong,” he wrote. “Additionally, they did not put President Trump’s statements in context and created an inaccurate perception for the reader of what the president said.” When Dave lined up what the AP attributed to the president beside what Trump actually said and the historical data that backs up his claim, the discrepancies – and the AP’s bias – became glaringly clear.

 

Why are these media outlets really pushing back against covering the president? Either to try to oust him from the White House in November or perhaps out of pure spite, it would seem.

 

Setting aside the increasingly common conflict of profits vs political bias, isn’t there a far more compelling reason for the press to report the actions and words of Donald Trump than whether or not they think he’s honest or what kind of ratings he can draw? He is the president of the United States, and almost everything he says and does – certainly anything said during a media briefing – is a matter of national history. What does it say about our press that they would refuse to report on the president during a time of national emergency?

Single-colour twitter banners alternative hypotheses

A few days ago the background images in celebrity twitter banners suddenly began being replaced by solid-colour backgrounds. Anons proposed that these colours indicate their legal status in some way in relation to the storm, pedophile arrests, etc. I like that theory. I also think it is correct. But it is far from proven.

 

Here is an alternative theory: There have always been random solid-colour backgrounds behind all images in twitter. In a recent update to the twitter system the programmers inadvertently caused only banner background images of a particular file type to be displayed. All banner background images of other filetypes ceased being displayed, so that instead the usually-invisible randomly-allocated background colour is being displayed instead.

 

I searched for the top celebrity twitter accounts, and the web said "Jimmy Fallon". On going to his twitter page I noticed that for a fraction of a second, solid-colour backgrounds appeared behind the images before the images themselves appeared. See sequential screenshots 1, 2 and 3 below, all taken within half a second of the webpage starting to load (I reloaded the page several times, and clicked until I managed to capture the backgrounds as his twitter page was loading in my browser.)

 

The first few times I refreshed the page, the banner background was maroon. But for the last few refreshes the banner background colour was dark bluey-grey.

 

Two Experiments to determine which theory is correct:

 

  1. Choose a celebrity with a solid-colour twitter banner background and refresh their twitter page 10 or 20 times to see if it changes colour.If it does, then the colours are probably not an indicator of their storm status.

 

  1. Using your own twitter account, make copies of your banner image in several different file formats - jpg, gif, png, tif - and upload each one in turn, do a refresh, and see if it displays. If some formats are not displayed and the background colour displayed instead, then to me that would disprove the storm-status theory.

Y’all may (or may not, depending on how much booze you’ve imbibed in the last 24 hours) recall that yesterday Yolanda discussed Stephanie Anderson, a low-profile gal who just paid $4,300,000 in what appears to have been an all-cash deal for an Encino mansion briefly owned by soccer star Nigel de Jong.

As one might expect, Ms. Anderson’s big mansion upgrade meant that she no longer needed her old house, a “Spanish style” (per the listing) mini-mansion located in the hills of Studio City. Records show that Ms. Anderson’s blind trust sold the property in September (2017) for $3,400,000, comfortably above the $2.8 million she paid for the spec-house in late 2012.

Records reveal the buyer also used a blind trust to cover their tracks. However, Yolanda happens to know that the happy new owner of Ms. Anderson’s old pad is Patton Oswalt, a comedian and actor who has starred as Spencer Olchin in the sitcom The King of Queens (1998–2007), voiced Remy in the film Ratatouille (2007), and played multiple identical brothers, the Koenigs, on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (2014–17). Yolanda has never seen any of those films or shows, so we cannot comment on Mr. Oswalt’s acting chops, but it should be noted that Mr. Oswalt has won both an Emmy and a Grammy over the course of his career.

 

For all his success, however, the Virginia-born Mr. Oswalt has also faced great tragedy. In April 2016, his first wife Michelle McNamara died in her sleep in the family’s Los Feliz home due to a previously undiagnosed heart condition and complications from prescribed medication.

 

Luckily for Mr. Oswalt, he was fortunate enough to find a new life partner — he and actress Meredith Salenger got hitched just this November (2017). Mazel tov! The first thing Yolanda noted about this house is that it is sited on an extraordinarily narrow (if deep) .29-acre lot. Thus the 5,945-square-foot mansion itself is inordinately long and narrow, seemingly filled with never-ending hallways and a epic staircase that looks like it requires a good 5 minutes to ascend or descend. Maybe Mr. Oswalt and Ms. Salenger were looking for a house that would keep them in shape? If so, they certainly chose wisely.

 

Though the property is situated on a quiet street, it does back directly up to busy-busy-busy Laurel Canyon Boulevard, not necessarily the most ideal situation. But we digress.

 

The front door opens rather rudely into the double-height living room. We’re not sure if this is necessarily in keeping with the “Spanish” theme, but the whole house is filled with medium-brown hardwood floors and wood (and wrought iron) accents on the doors, windows, everywhere.

 

As you might expect of a $3.4 million mansion, there is a movie theater, a wine cellar, and a library. It appears to Yolanda that Ms. Anderson had already moved out of the premises by the time these listing photos were taken. Either that, or maybe she doesn’t like to read?

 

Continuing down the center hallway leads to the formal dining room, which is just beyond the Viking appliances-equipped kitchen. A center island has bar-style seating and opens to the family room, which has French door access to the backyard terrace. There is also a maid’s bedroom suite on the ground floor.

 

Up that frightful flight of stairs lies four more bedroom suites, including the master. There is a pitched, all-wood ceiling in the bedroom, a private covered balcony overlooking the backyard, and a spacious bathroom with marble floors, dual vanities, a built-in soaking tub, and a glassy shower.

 

The tropically-landscaped backyard features an outdoor dining area, a grassy play area, and a sparkling pool/spa combo with waterfall feature. And let’s not forget the small guesthouse (of unknown square footage) at the very rear of the property. It contains a kitchenette plus lounge area and another bedroom/bathroom plus a walk-in closet.

Thanks for the encouraging words. This anon is a sensitive antenna, and these last few weeks and days especially have been – intense. I can feel the war raging all around, but am not at 40K altitude in terms of Q posts. Not an autist. I am wondering how much of the anxiety might be coming via the phone carrier signals. I have to leave it on for work reasons. But I believe that those signals are used to target TIs. Anons I really think people should keep an open mind to a gold backed central bank with maybe something like xrp as a banking currency and for international payments. I absolutely understand many anons apprehension… but just keep an open mind. I for one have a modest investment into xrp because i see how it can be beneficial to bank to bank transactions. I think people get the wrong idea.
