I remember when Twatter and fake news suddenly started a coordinated blitz of Daniel Radcliffe stories when I bet they THOUGHT would be a shift from Grenell to Ratcliffe.

 

Why all of a sudden did everyone get shown Radcliffe?

Longtime American Red Cross executive Donna Morrissey dies of COVID-19

American Red Cross executive Donna Morrissey died due to complications of the coronavirus on Friday at the age of 51.

Morrissey, a native of Newton, worked at the American Red Cross for 17 years as its director of communications for the Northeast Division. She was also the director of national partnerships for American Red Cross Biomedical Services at the time of her death.

Oregon Supreme Court to Baker County judge: Throw out injunction against governor’s emergency coronavirus orders by Tues., or explain why not

 

The Oregon Supreme Court on Saturday issued a deadline to the Baker County judge who this week granted a preliminary injunction nullifying Oregon governor’s emergency coronavirus orders:

Either throw out the injunction by 5 p.m. Tuesday or explain why he should not do so.

If Baker County Judge Matthew B. Shirtcliff doesn’t alter his ruling that found Gov. Kate Brown’s executive orders restricting social gatherings due to the coronavirus pandemic "null and void,'' the state’s high court then will accept additional briefings on the issue.

 

The final briefing would be due June 2.

 

On Monday night, the state Supreme Court stepped in to put a hold on a dramatic decision by the eastern Oregon judge that declared not only the governor’s restrictions on church gatherings “null and void” but all her “Stay Home Save Lives’’ coronavirus emergency orders.

The state’s high court has now issued what’s called an alternative writ of mandamus. If the Baker County judge doesn’t withdraw his injunction, the state’s high court asked for further legal briefs on the question of whether the trial court should be ordered to dismiss it.

Shirtcliff had ruled earlier Monday that the governor’s executive orders in response to the global pandemic exceeded a 28-day limit adopted by state lawmakers and were no longer valid in response to a suit filed by 10 churches, the non-profit Pacific Justice Institute and 21 others against the governor.

The governor’s office appealed to the Oregon Supreme Court to keep her emergency orders in effect, arguing that Shirtcliff overstepped his authority and his legal reasoning was flawed.

So…just a question:

Here are the responsibilities for Congress within the Constitution, Article 1 and just wondering if anyone has seen Congress do any of these things for which they are responsible, over…oh, I don't know, let's say…the last 4 years?

 

Of course some have already been treasonously pawned off such as numbers 5 and 6 that turned generations of Americans into debt slaves in their own country, but that was done in 1913, there are many others that seem to have been ignored! They also seem to have completely ignored Number 9, especially the part of their inferior position. All I've seen for 4 years is lying, leaking, fawning, failing, losing, aging, posturing, whining…not a lot of working.

Largest rally at the Capitol yet, protestors demand California be reopened

 

SACRAMENTO, Calif. —

Memorial Day weekend brought the largest protest against the statewide shutdown at the Capitol so far.

A crowd of people gathered on 10th Street for what organizers called “Liberty Fest.” The protesters want California to follow the lead of other states that have reopened businesses and ease social distancing restrictions.

Honking pickup trucks circled the Capitol as a plane flew overhead, pulling a sign with the message: ‘End His Tyranny!’ aimed at Gov. Gavin Newsom.

The rally at times felt more like a block party as the street was lined with protestors, food trucks and porta potties.

 

While Trump flags were on fully display, masks were not. People said they are not afraid of the coronavirus and it is time for the state to reopen. Adam Blancarte drove seven hours overnight from Riverside County to say so.

“I went to my grandmother’s house the other day, she couldn’t even hug me. She was nothing but fear,” Blancarte said. “I went to my church with the pastor that married me, and he’s got a mask on and gloves on and he’s sitting in fear.”

 

Others came from out of state. Pam Hemphill said she was requested to travel to California for the protest from her home in Boise, Idaho.

“We got a group of us together, it’s called the ‘People’s Movement,’ where if you’re in trouble and they’re stepping on your First Amendment rights or any of your Constitutional rights, we will come to your aid,” Hemphill said. “You just call us and you’ll get 1,000 people there to help you.”

 

One of the groups that organized the event is Freedom Angels. The group was originally formed to protest vaccinations. Recently, it has pivoted its target to the state shutdown by organizing several protests at the Capitol.

An organization spokeswoman said they paid to charter two buses to bring people up from Southern California. Naomi Soria was one of those passengers.

“Freedom is non-partisan. Whether you’re Republican, Democrat, Conservative, we can all agree at the end of the day, race aside, religion aside, freedom is non-partisan,” Soria said.

 

Some people from the Sacramento area said they came on their own because they are out of work.

“I was unable to take a job because it was considered non-essential which I think it’s wrong because it’s my job, it’s essential to me,” said Gayle Barrett from Lockeford.

 

Jim Edmonds came to the rally because he said the statewide order shut down his once thriving bounce house business in Roseville.

“I was just in total depression. I’ve never been depressed,” Edmonds said. “I have people that count on me. And I had to lay them off. That hurts worse than anything.”

 

The protest remained peaceful as officers stood watch. Sacramento Police and the California Highway Patrol said there was not a permit for the event.

“Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, permits are denied for the health & safety of all involved,” CHP said.

Radio host Charlamagne tha God appeared on CNN Friday night and said former Vice President Joe Biden is “a very intricate part” of “systemic racism” in America.

 

“My overall takeaway from the conversation is that I heard him talk about things he did for black people back in the day but what have you done for me lately is my motto,” Charlamagne explained to CNN’s Erin Burnett. “I see Black communities catching hell no matter who is in the White House.”

 

“Like I said before if you have created legislation that has hurt then you have to create legislation that helps, it’s just that simple,” the radio host continued. “The whole system needs to be dismantled and rebuilt and he has been a very intricate part of that system.”

 

“Whether you’re talking about 84 with the mandatory minimum sentences for drug dealers, when you talk about 86 with crack laws that gave you more time for crack cocaine and powder cocaine, or if you talk about the 94 crime bill.”

 

Charlamagne also called out Biden over his record of supporting laws through the years and how the rise of drug-related arrests led to a rise in incarceration rates among black Americans.

 

“He really was one of the people on the front lines when it came to the war on drugs, and mass incarceration,” Charlamagne said. “If he wants to be president, he needs to fix that.”

 

According to the ACLU, incarceration rates steadily increased for 14 years following the passage of the federal crime bill in 1994.

 

Biden was at the center of outrage on Friday when he appeared on The Breakfast Club, a podcast partly hosted by Charlamagne which has interviewed several prominent Democrat presidential hopefuls. During his appearance on the show, Biden told Charlamagne that he “ain’t black” if he could not decide whether to vote for Donald Trump or Biden.

 

Biden later said he should not have been “cavalier.”

Klausutis’ death not suspicious

The medical examiner said he is waiting to rule on the death until blood test results are finished.

The medical examiner investigating the death of Lori Klausutis said Saturday there is absolutely no evidence that the 28-year-old employee of U.S. Rep. Joe Scarborough was a victim of “foul play.”

Associate Medical Exam-iner Dr. Michael Berkland will announce how Klausutis died on Wednesday. He is waiting for blood test results and is continuing his investigation into her medical history.

“It would be foolish for me to release the cause of death without the toxicology results in my hand because that one little piece of the puzzle can make all the difference in the investigation,” said Berkland, who completed an autopsy on Klausutis’ body Saturday.

“But there is still no suspicion of foul play.”

Klausutis, of Niceville, was found dead on the floor of Scarborough’s Fort Walton Beach branch office at about 8 a.m. Friday when a couple arrived at the office for an appointment. Berkland said it is likely that Klausutis died sometime Thursday afternoon or evening.

“She had been dead for quite awhile before she was found,” Berkland said Saturday.

“Based on the physical evidence, I feel comfortable moving the time of her death back to the previous day.”

Klausutis’ death was likely accidental or the result of natural causes. Berkland said it is unlikely that her death was a suicide, but will not rule that out until the blood tests are returned.

“There is no evidence at all that this was an intentional act, but we can’t rule it out just yet,” Berkland said.

Toxicology reports, performed at a laboratory in Gainesville, will reveal the presence of any drugs or other unnatural substances in Klausutis’ body, Berkland said.

“I’ve been cautioning people against saying she died of natural causes because there could have been something present in her system that we can’t find until we get those results,” he added.

Berkland said Klausutis had been involved in a serious car accident as a teenager and still suffered from some lingering medical problems, but it is unknown whether those conditions played a role in her death. Many of her medical records are from another state and Berkland is waiting to review those as well before making an announcement.

Fort Walton Beach Police Chief Steve Hogue said he is also awaiting toxicology and medical examiner’s reports, though the department’s preliminary investigation revealed nothing suspicious inside Scarborough’s office. Officers found no signs of a struggle, break-in or robbery, Hogue said.

Ousted Hollywood Executive Charged for Allegedly Taking Fraudulent $1.7M PPP Loan

The founder and former chairman of Aviron Pictures, Williams Sadleir was arrested on Friday on charges of involvement $30 million fraud scheme, the Department of Justice announced.

 

Sadleir, 66, is accused of misappropriating millions in funds from his film company. Sadleir has since been released on a $100,000 bond but will remain under house arrest.

 

“As alleged, William Sadleir orchestrated a massive fraud, embezzling approximately $14 million of investor funds from his film company to pay for a Beverly Hills estate, among other fraudulent acts,” said U.S. Attorney Geoffrey S. Berman. “Thanks to the dedicated work of our law enforcement partners at the FBI, Sadleir will be held accountable for his behind-the-scenes misdeeds.”

 

The former executive was charged with two counts of wire fraud and one count of aggravated identity theft. Each wire fraud charge carries a maximum prison term of 20 years, while the aggravated identity theft charge carries a mandatory two-year jail term.

 

“Sadleir allegedly even went so far as to pose as a female employee of the sham New-York based company he created to further his illegal activity,” FBI Assistant Director William F. Sweeney Jr. said in a statement. “Today’s arrest serves as a reminder of the FBI’s dedication to holding people accountable for egregious financial crimes of this nature.”

 

Among the charges claim that he recently filed fraudulent bank loan applications, asking over $1.7 million dollars in forgivable Paycheck Protection Program loans guaranteed by the Small Business Administration under the CARES Act. The act, passed by Congress in March, was designed to provide emergency financial relief to businesses owners impacted by the Chinese coronavirus pandemic.

 

U.S. Attorney Nick Hanna of the Central District of California explained:

 

This film producer allegedly made a series of misrepresentations to a bank and the Small Business Administration to illegally secure taxpayer money that he then used to fund his nearly empty personal bank account. The Paycheck Protection Program was implemented to help small businesses stay afloat during the financial crisis, and we will act swiftly against those who abuse the program for their own personal gain.

 

Over the past decade, the 66-year-old Hollywood mogul has overseen the distribution of a number of independent films across the United States, including My All American (2015), Kidnap (2017), The Strangers: Prey at Night (2018), A Private War (2018), Destination Wedding (2018), Serenity (2019), and After (2019).

After this happened, MSNBC president Phil Griffin wrote to Moulitsas to say that he was banned from the network. It was one of the more bizarre pieces of cable news weirdness in history. It was also one in a long line of mini-wars Joe Scarborough has waged in an effort to stop getting people to insinuate that he killed his intern.

Let’s get one thing clear: There is zero evidence to suggest that Joe Scarborough had anything to do with the death of Lori Klausutis. But the story of Klausutis’s death has nevertheless haunted Scarborough over the years.

A journey into the time machine is necessary at this point. We emerge in May of 2001. Justice Department Warns Los Angeles Stay-at-Home Extension Could be Illegal

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The U.S. Department of Justice on Friday warned the mayor of Los Angeles and the county’s top health officer that an extension of the coronavirus stay-at-home order may be unlawful.

 

The vague letter sent to Mayor Eric Garcetti and LA County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer did not spell out any specific violations, but noted concern about statements both had made publicly that restrictions may be prolonged without a vaccine.

 

“Reports of your recent public statements indicate that you suggested the possibility of long-term lockdown of the residents in the city and county of Los Angeles, regardless of the legal justification for such restrictions,” Assistant Attorney General Eric Dreiband wrote. “We remain concerned about what may be an arbitrary and heavy-handed approach to continuing stay-at-home requirements.”

 

Dreiband acknowledged that Garcetti had broad authority to protect residents during the pandemic.

 

Garcetti said the city would be guided by science and data rather than politics. He said the city’s 7-day average of deaths is holding and he feels confident about measures the city is taking.

 

“We are not guided by politics,” Garcetti said at a briefing. “There’s no games, there’s nothing else going on, and that’s the way we’re going to continue to safely open.”

 

“There’s no city in the world that right now doesn’t have some sort of orders and restrictions because we know this virus kills,” Garcetti added.

 

Even as more of California reopens restaurants and shops, Los Angeles is among a small number of California’s 58 counties that either have not sufficiently contained the virus to reopen more activities and commerce or, in the case of several San Francisco Bay Area counties, have chosen to move more slowly.

 

The letter came the same day the White House coronavirus response coordinator named the LA region as an area where spread of the virus is a concern. Los Angeles County, with a quarter of the state’s nearly 40 million residents, accounts for nearly half of its COVID-19 cases and about 55% of the state’s more than 3,600 deaths.

 

Dr. Deborah Birx asked the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to help look into the source of new cases to help prevent future outbreaks.

The Magnificent 45th Operational Group, Detachment 3 stands ready to rescue Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley in the event their missions ends in an unexpected abort.

It is known as the 45th Operational Group, Detachment 3, or Det 3. For years Det 3 has served as the rescuers for astronauts from land and sea in the event of a mission abort. Now, Det 3 comes back to life under a new command, and a new name. Task Force 45.

This Awesome military unit, part of the US Space Force’s 45th Space Wing, is based at Patrick Air Force Base in Florida, just south of NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, and is responsible for rescuing astronauts from abort scenarios. Det 3 first saw usage during the Apollo program, maintaining the mission during shuttle and now prepares for Commercial Crew. Made up of command staff and special operations personnel and aircrew, the unit has trained for any scenario.

 

The reason for the change? The newly formed US Space Force. Previously, when activated, Det 3 fell under the command of the US Air Force Strategic Command. With the new branch, Det 3 becomes Task Force 45 and falls under the US Space Command and US Space Force. When activated, Task Force 45 will report to Major General John Shaw at Vandenberg Air Force Base, who serves as the commander of the US Space Commands Combined Force Space Component and reports to General John Raymond, head of the US Space Force.

“It’s been about 9 years since we’ve supported a human spaceflight launch. We need to be working on a petition for redress in regards to cannabis. Arabian Gulf – The USS Badass Bataan Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) and embarked 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit conducted joint integration training with a Special Operations Command Central (SOCCENT) AC-130W Stinger II aircraft in the Arabian Gulf, May 19-21.

During the training, SOCCENT and 26th MEU Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) teams, stationed aboard the amphibious transport dock ship USS New York (LPD 21) and at locations ashore, directed command and control (C2) for simulated defensive strikes on surface targets from the AC-130W gunship.

“This was a great opportunity to incorporate the awesome firepower of the AC-130W into our Navy-Marine Corps live-fire training, rehearsing swift and lethal strikes with pinpoint accuracy against surface targets representing notional threats to the ARG/MEU,” said Capt. Lance Lesher, commander of the Bataan ARG. “This complex coordination involving SOCCENT, Marine Corps and Navy forces further expands our capability to defend ourselves against any threats we might encounter while operating lawfully in support of maritime security and our regional partners in the Arabian Gulf.”

The training confirmed the Navy-Marine Corps team’s capability to integrate with SOCCENT aviation assets to verify their joint-targeting processes and C2 procedures in the maritime domain. The ability to execute strike coordination and reconnaissance while controlling joint aviation assets from either the land or sea allows the ARG/MEU to successfully defend itself when operating in a contested maritime environment.

The AC-130W also trained alongside Marine Corps AH-1W Super Cobras and UH-1Y Venoms embarked aboard the New York. JTAC controllers also employed an AGM-176 Griffin missile, a lightweight, precision-guided munition that can be launched from the air to target surface threats.

“Integrating joint aviation assets and fires into a composite warfare construct with surface warfare assets is an effective approach to operating in a contested maritime environment,” said Col. Trevor Hall, commanding officer of the 26th MEU. “During this dynamic training evolution, the 26th MEU and Bataan ARG successfully integrated with SOCCENT forces to control aviation-delivered fires against maritime threats.”

In addition to the Ace New York and the amphibious assault ship USS Kick Ass Bataan (LHD 5), the ARG also includes the dock landing ship Wowzer USS Oak Hill (LSD 51). Also currently operating with the ARG is the guided missile destroyer USS Stout (DDG 55).

A Jewish pediatrician who was convicted of possessing and distributing some 190,000 child pornography videos and images can serve as a medical supervisor at the Health Ministry’s student health services department, an Israeli court ruled last week:

 

"Avraham Barkai will be able to pay visits to schools but not treat children in his new position, which a panel of judges at the Nazareth Regional Labor Court determined that he should be allowed to fill, going against the recommendation of the Civil Service Commission.

 

Barkai was convicted in 2011 of being part of an international child pornography distribution ring and later sentenced to 18 months behind bars. However, the punishment was reduced on appeal to six months of community service, a nine-month suspended sentence and a NIS 20,000 ($5,690) fine.

 

For over a year up to his conviction, but after he had already been charged, Barkai continued to practice at a Haifa clinic of the Meuhedet HMO after a Health Ministry disciplinary committee ruled that he could continue to see children as long as a parent or nurse was in the room.

 

The disciplinary committee went on to rule that despite the charges, Barkai did not pose a danger to children as he had not been accused of physical acts against minors. As a result, it ruled that the pediatrician’s license should only be stripped for two years, and by July 2013 Barkai got his license back….

 

However, senior officials in the Health Ministry have come to Barkai’s defense. In 2014, the Health Ministry’s senior vice president of Administration and Human Resources, Dov Passat, submitted a letter to the disciplinary committee asserting that there should be nothing preventing Barkai from applying for tenders for positions as a pediatrician. The letter was submitted by Barkai as an official position of the Health Ministry to the Petah Tivka Magistrate’s Court, which ruled in 2018 that he be granted an exemption from the ban on employing convicted sex offenders as he does not pose a risk to the public, even if he works as a pediatrician.

 

In late 2018, a medical board voted unanimously to award Barkai a position as medical supervisor at the Health Ministry’s student health services department in the northern district. The Civil Service Commission subsequently interfered and blocked the appointment, stating in a 2019 hearing that “while the job at hand does not require clinical care for children, its core is oversight of student services and some of its assignments take place on school grounds and during the school day… Taking into account the nature of the offenses of which Dr. Barkai was convicted, [granting him this position] can greatly damage the image of the Civil Service Commission and the public’s confidence in its institutions.” "

Former Associate Medical Examiner Michael Berkland has been charged with stealing some of the more than 100 body parts found in August in a storage unit he rented.

The state attorney’s office on Wednesday added four misdemeanor theft charges to previous charges of creating a public nuisance and felony improper storage of hazardous waste, which were filed in September.

The organs and body parts, several still intact, were found in a unit at Uncle Bob’s Storage in Pensacola.

The gruesome discovery was made when the contents were auctioned off after Berkland stopped paying rent for the unit.

Berkland, who performed the bulk of the autopsies in Okaloosa and Walton counties from 1997 to 2003, rented the storage unit in 2009.

Berkland performed autopsies after he was fired from the medical examiner’s office.

The body parts Berkland took the time to label as samples indicated they came from autopsies performed between 1997 and 2007. Other items were unlabeled and stored in containers that included plastic soft drink cups.

The new charges allege Berkland illegally possessed organs or body parts of four people.

“We will be arguing that while in some cases Dr. Berkland may have been authorized to perform autopsies, the body parts or organs he kept without the permission of the family constitutes theft,” said Greg Marcille, chief assistant state attorney.

Marcille said because there is no way to put a value on a body part or human organ, the latest theft charges against Berkland are second-degree misdemeanors carrying a maximum sentence of 60 days in jail.

Eric Stevenson, Berkland’s attorney, said “any property he possessed he came by lawfully.”

“There was no criminal intent to deprive anybody of property they were entitled to,” Stevenson said.
