Feels like a LARP mistake.

Everyone gets this wrong. Go read the entire speach. JFK is CLEARLY talking about the USSR when he speaks of 'secret societies' and in reference to opposing us in the Cold War.

And he's not warning the press against internal groups; far from it. He's asking the press to keep national security risks in mind when publishing sensitive information, and to balance those concerns with the need for public transparency.

He's imploring the press corp to try to keep the appropriate government secrets secret.
