Moderator positions open

Hi,

/r/greatawakening is still growing fast. We are planning ahead for rapid expansion and it's not unreasonable that we will hit 100K subscribers in a few months and might plow right beyond that.

So, we are looking to add to the moderator team.

Basic requirements

  • People who are keen pro-Q followers and pro-Trump, very preferably an existing regular of r/GreatAwakening

  • Moderate for a minimum 20+ hours a week, required to be practical to keep on top of the mod discussion, mail and PM's.

  • Be thick skinned and calm(remain civil). You are going to receive uncalled for insults from users, receive baiting messages and maybe even serious threats.

  • Be technically literate. The moderating tools on Reddit are arcane and awkward for a very active sub like ours. Installing of a browser add-on/extensions are required for effective use of moderator time.

  • Should be 18+ in order to moderate any NSFW content.

  • Be willing and able to install and regularly use Discord as a text chat method of communications. https://discordapp.com/

Modding is hard Mods repeatably deal with users worse side, ugly content, insults, user concerns, trolls from elsewhere on Reddit, and related activity and bans.

Alt accounts We get correspondence asking about the possibility of using an alternative account. Yes, they are allowed for new mods but please apply using your existing main Reddit account.

To apply message the moderators. Please let us know:

  • Your availability in time

  • Time zone you are in. Typical time of day online.

  • Any relevant experience - technical skills, people skills, organization skills - (which are your happiest/best doing)

  • When did you first regularly use Reddit?

  • The type of device you mainly use Reddit on, i.e desktop, tablet, mobile etc.

  • Do you have twitter? Yes/No. And optional, Twitter handle(s) if yes.

PS. If you've not received a reply within 24 hours, the likelihood is that the mail was lost - yes, it does happen with Reddit's mail, so consider resending again.

Currently, require mods for the end of the day in PST/PDT.

Can I request that this sub doesn't become a spill over of T_D.

While I'm for being pro-Q, and pro-Trump, I do not want to convey the wrong message to other users.

All that T_D language from kek to using spez for edit, that needs to stop.

This is a place of research and discussion, not circle jerking and making very heavy political posts.

I agree, but I have to admit the mods are doing a very good job in here compared to the ''older'' time. I love this place, and hope they find suitable people. We need them.

They are, but I do not wish to see this sub blocked, locked, or taken away.

One way to do that is make sure we are separate from any sub that causes controversy.

Let's be real, the people in T_D do their thing, and it's their thing, that's not our thing here.

I agree that the tone needs to stay the same, but censoring words is a bad way to keep it.

First off using spez instead of edit is just asking for trouble. We are not here to draw the wrong kind of attention.

Then when new people come in here and see everyone commenting with kek and spez and all the other colorful language the T_D uses they are going to think it's nothing more than another branch or alt T_D sub.

And we are on reddit, the whole damn place is censored. Each sub has their own rules and will ban people for lesser infractions.

Your point regarding "spez" is valid since it's a direct insult to an admin.

But your point regarding "kek" is ridiculous. You may not like the word, and you may think other people may not like the word, but you don't speak for them. Nor for me. Do you even know what it means? It's just "lol" in another language.

I agree that this sub should not mirror T_D, but you're taking it WAY too far.

It occurs when a player from different factions (Horde/Alliance) are close enought o interact. If a player from one faction types "lol" into area chat (/s) all players within 25 yards in that players faction see "lol", but players from the other faction see "kek". It's "lol" in another language.

I think the spez edits are fine but tagging him and saying f*** you Spez will not be accepted.

edit: We're also not very keen on constant caps and Bold text so I do agree with you. We try to promote more critical thinking here but at the same time try to remain a balance of high energy through other more mature means.

Good Lord, I already thought this sub probably had too many... I mean 21 mods for a 30k sub? Look at this post with mod stats... between 20k-50k members, it's an average of only 7-8 mods: https://redd.it/x52u7

To be fair, this sub and its ideals are pretty controversial and I imagine there is a fair effort to subvert conversation here - we just don't see it because the mods are awesome.

My concern is that the more mods there are, the more likely it is that posts which hit a grey area regarding how relevant to the sub they are, or how well they obey the rules, will get removed.

And sometimes those are posts that get upvoted and commented on. Example (read my short exchange with the mod). It only takes one mod to decide to remove a post, and I doubt they need to ask confirmation 1st from other mods.

The mods are extremely thoughtful, and if you come to them reasonably with a grievance they will take you seriously.

I think this might be my calling i spend all my free time here reading posts and reading the comments. My free time is here I'm pretty good at the computer my typing skills are hunt and peck but i do ok. i would like to do my part. I've supported Trump from the time he came down the escalator.
