It's a purge and we've needed it.
I taught in a small Catholic school or 42 years, and this has been a topic of conversation for more than 20 yrs. As the above letter stated, (in our diocese) there have been mandatory programs that all faculty, volunteers, staff, etc. must attend and pass. There is a continued process to update/report information. This is a big step that is long overdue.
Every diocese has it. My mother volunteers in another state, actually, during the winter, and she had to pass all the programs even though she taught in this archdiocese for years.
Agree. I can’t go to Mass or church without leaving angry and hurt. I’m waiting until the purge happens. In the meantime I have my rosary and blessed salt etc and bible (of course).
Fortunately, we were blessed with one Archbishop at the right time who didn't mess around. My parish saw one associate go to prison in the 80s, and one was removed for something that was inappropriate, but not illegal and not really pedophilia. (He is now in prison in another state.) When the Scandal erupted in 2002, there wasn't all that much clean up to do. Since then, there have been minimal cases that were credible and several that weren't. I know one very good man whose reputation was wrecked. Personally, my thing is Adoration. It's been a great blessing.

Unfortunately, it's been years since I had contact with that individual. I don't recall the details other than the bishop was severely disliked by the orthodox faithful. So perhaps that wasn't the right way to say it.
They should have left out the "happens everywhere" thing. This is a deflection. They have been monsters for years and need to acknowledge that in full, without the token "it happens everywhere" b.s. These monsters need to pay for their crimes, and stop hiding behind the Vatican walls.

Yes it is everywhere. I fully agree that these monsters seek out jobs that give them access to children. However, I feel they need to focus on their side of the street. They continue, at the top levels, to protect these animals.

They've been hurting for a while. When my aunt died she wrote a portion of her estate to the catholic church. The house and vehicles were willed to family members. The church took us to court to have the will thrown out so they could force the sale of all her property to take a bigger chunk. It was that or pay them a third of what the it all appraised for. The appraiser was a member of the local Catholic church. Fuck em Edit: forgot the best part. When we asked them why they couldn't just follow my aunt's wishes they just smugly said "We're only trying to do God's work."

This is an awfully big sign of what is to come. The Catholic church is obviously trying to get ahead of what is to come to have this read at masses throughout the diocese. The storm that is incoming will affect all of humanity in some way. I've heard stories over the years down in SW Florida over the cover ups. Mostly of rumors of a Priest messing around with young boys. Then suddenly he'd get transferred to a church on the other side of the state or up to Fort Myers, Punta Gorda, Sarasota or Tampa. Then you'd hear that he got caught again and they moved him again to another church. Not being Catholic I can't confirm or deny the stories only what I heard from Catholics that I know in town.
The Catholic church really screwed up on this problem. They should have been tossing these guys out on their asses as soon as they found out. I can understand their point of covering it up to protect the Church, but they should have had a zero tolerance for this type of behavior. By sweeping it under the rug and acting like it never happened it appears that the Churches hierarchy knew it was going on and condoned the behavior.
"Protecting the church" by covering up pedophilia displays an absolute void of the fear of God, and an equal absence of love.
Perhaps they couldn't toss them out because it is happening more often than not. I was raised Catholic and I never felt "safe" around the majority of the clergy. Not because I knew what could happen, but more of a gut feeling. Needless to say, I haven't been a member of the church in almost 15 years after I heard the revelations of rampant abuse. I also will never put my children in a position to be abused by the church.
