I just came out of Walmart. In Texas you don’t have to wear a mask. Mask mandates has been lifted but everyone except me and 7 other people among the hundreds in there were still masked up like sheep. Slaves who love their chains shall remain in their bondage. We have now identified the name of one of the gunmen and the group he’s affiliated with.

'Now we know that one of the members is known as National Assistance Minister of Defense, Brother AJ. He has been pictured at other events as well, armed and ready. Brother AJ and his friends are supporters of Georgia Gubernatorial candidate Staci Abrams.

U.S. Treasury's Yellen calls for global minimum corporate tax

U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said on Monday that she is working with G20 countries to agree on a global corporate minimum tax rate to end a “30-year race to the bottom on corporate tax rates.” In prepared remarks to the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, Yellen said she also would use her participation in International Monetary Fund and World Bank annual meetings this week to advance discussions on climate change, improve vaccine access and encourage countries to support a strong global recovery.

Yellen said it was important to make sure governments “have stable tax systems that raise sufficient revenues in essential public goods and respond to crises, and that all citizens fairly share the burden of financing government.” Separately, a U.S. Treasury official told reporters that it was important to have the world’s major economies on board with a global minimum tax to make it effective.

The official said the United States would use its own tax legislation to prevent companies from shifting profits or residency to tax haven countries and would encourage other major economies to do the same.

Vice President Kamala Harris will visit Chicago Tuesday to focus on COVID-19 vaccine equity. Harris comes to Chicago as city and state officials — all Democrats committed to the various equity issues associated with the coronavirus pandemic — continue to address problems relating to equity goals as well as overcoming vaccine hesitancy. Harris’ visit to Chicago will be her first time in the city since she was sworn in as vice president. Conservative Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas says that judges will soon have "no choice" but to regulate the tech companies that punished former President Donald Trump for inciting a failed insurrection.

Thomas made the remarks in a Monday Supreme Court opinion that vacated a lower court ruling, which had prevented Trump from blocking certain Twitter followers who he did not want to comment on his tweets.

Thomas, who traditionally sides with corporations, suggested that the high court would allow Congress to erode the First Amendment by arguing that tech companies do not have the free speech rights to control their platforms.

"The petitions highlight two important facts. Today's digital platforms provide avenues for historically unprecedented amounts of speech, including speech by government actors," Thomas wrote. "Also unprecedented, however, is the concentrated control of so much speech in the hands of a few private parties."

He added: "We will soon have no choice but to address how our legal doctrines apply to highly concentrated, privately owned information infrastructure such as digital platforms."

The Hollywood Reporter's Eriq Gardner concluded that Thomas is "looking to less-than-subtlety reframe the First Amendment into being about power rather than government censorship."

DeSantis, Manatee officials work to prevent 20-foot wall of wastewater at Piney Point

PALMETTO — Acting Manatee County administrator Scott Hopes spent Easter Sunday feeling “much more comfortable today than we were yesterday” about the imminent threat of a reservoir at the former Piney Point phosphate plant collapsing and sending a 20-foot wall of wastewater crashing down on surrounding homes and businesses.

At a Sunday afternoon press conference, Manatee County officials reported “no news was good news.” Vanessa Baugh, chairwoman of the Manatee County Commission, assured residents that their drinking water was safe, saying, “There is no threat to our primary source of drinking water, Lake Manatee.”

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis was on site for an earlier news conference just outside the evacuation zone, where he and county officials laid out their plan to prevent the 77-acre wastewater pond from total collapse after a plastic lining is believed to have torn last week. The reservoir sits among phosphogypsum stacks — high berms made of a substance monitored for its radioactivity.

Millions of gallons of wastewater that remain in the reservoir will be pumped out into Port Manatee or other “large storage containers” coming in from as far away as Wyoming as quickly as possible, Hopes said.

“We’re not out of the critical area yet,” he said.

Chinese aircraft carrier and 5 ships pass Okinawa on way to Pacific

The Chinese aircraft carrier Liaoning and five escort vessels have passed through a key waterway off Japan on their way to the Pacific Ocean, the Joint Staff Office of the Japanese Defense Ministry said Sunday.

The carrier group was spotted around 8 a.m. Saturday roughly 470 km southwest of Nagasaki Prefecture's Danjo Islands, the joint staff said. The convoy then passed through the Miyako Strait, the 250 km-wide waterway between Okinawa Island and Miyako Island.

This is the first time since April 2020 that the Liaoning has been known to pass this waterway, and it comes just days after exercises between the U.S. and Australian navies in the Eastern Pacific. Accompanying the Liaoning were one Renhai class stealth guided missile destroyer, two Luyang III class guided missile destroyers, one Jiangkai II multi-role frigate and one Fuyu class fast combat support ship.

The Japanese side deployed destroyer JS Suzutsuki, a P-1 maritime patrol aircraft and a P-3C anti-submarine warfare patrol aircraft to gather information and monitor the movements of the Chinese vessels, the joint staff said. The joint staff also said that a Chinese Y-9 military transport aircraft passed over the Miyako Strait on Sunday and that Japan had scrambled a jet fighter in the airspace to respond. The movements come as the U.S. Navy intensifies cooperation with the Quad partners of Japan, India and Australia in the Indo-Pacific.

On the heels of a visit to India by U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, the Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group conducted joint multi-domain operations with India's navy and air force in the Indian Ocean on March 28 and 29. Aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt, guided missile cruiser USS Bunker Hill and destroyer USS Russell operated with Indian frigate INS Shivalik and Indian Air Force aircraft from Squadron No. 222, known as "The Tigersharks." The U.S. Indo-Pacific Command has emphasized strengthening joint multi-domain operations the convergence of capabilities from land, sea, air, space and cyberspace and the inclusion of the Indian Air Force in the exercise advances that directive.

The USS Blue Ridge, the flagship of the U.S. 7th Fleet, operated with Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force destroyer JS Kongo on March 29 to test their combined maritime skills and intercommunication capabilities. The exercises were immediately followed by a two-day joint drill involving the U.S. Navy and Royal Australian Navy in the Eastern Pacific.

Guided missile destroyer USS John Finn and Australian Hobart-class air warfare destroyer HMAS Sydney took part in a Group Sail exercise in the waters off the coast of Southern California on Wednesday and Thursday to improve interoperability.

GameStop to capitalize on 'stonks' rally with $1 billion stock sale plan

GameStop Corp on Monday increased the value of new stock it may sell from $100 million to $1 billion, as the U.S. video game retailer seeks to capitalize on a surge in its shares from a Reddit-driven rally this year. GameStop stock has rampaged over 900% higher since January in highly volatile trading as amateur investors organized on social media sites such as Reddit staged a stubborn buying spree, winning out over Wall Street hedge funds that had shorted its shares.

GameStop’s shares fell as much as 13.9% on Monday, but reversed course and traded up slightly, standing at $192.29 apiece at 11:36 a.m. EDT. The company has not sold any new shares since the frenzy started, mainly because security laws prevented it from doing so without disclosing its latest financial information, Reuters reported in February.

GameStop reported fourth-quarter earnings on March 24, and on Monday it published unaudited sales results for its fiscal first quarter to date, to bring investors up-to-date with its financial situation. GameStop said it may sell up to 3.5 million shares worth no more than $1 billion, and use the proceeds to hasten its shift to e-commerce in an overhaul being led by billionaire Ryan Cohen, GameStop’s biggest shareholder and board member.

In a regulatory filing for the offering, Grapevine, Texas-based GameStop addressed the extreme gyrations in its shares in the last three months, which have swung from as low as $19.94 to as high as $347.51. GameStop had registered in December with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to sell $100 million worth of stock through an at-the-market offering (ATM), which it never deployed.

Russia's growing nuclear arsenal and President Biden's inaction on nuclear weapons may put American allies in grave danger, Republicans and defense experts say.

Vladimir Putin's surging nuclear stockpile and military buildup leaves NATO allies all the more in need of protection from the U.S. military, according to Alan Mendoza, the executive director of the Henry Jackson Society, a British think tank. Mendoza said Europe needs more than Biden's harsh words for Putin's regime, particularly as Democrats weigh Pentagon cuts and advocate against America's nuclear capabilities.

"The world is going to get more rather than less dangerous … that should surely reflect itself back into U.S. defense policy," Mendoza said. "What actually needs to be felt in Europe is that the U.S. will be there to support its NATO allies on the front lines."

Britain has sounded the alarm on Russia’s growing nuclear arms. Nearly half of Russia's nuclear arms are not covered by the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, which the Biden administration extended in January. A March security review from London recommended a 40 percent increase in Britain’s nuclear stockpile as fears of Russia's arsenal grow.

For Major General Ferdinand B. Stoss, the director of plans and policy at U.S. Strategic Command, growing nuclear threats from Russia and others to American allies make his task of maintaining a strong nuclear stance all the more important.

Why is the Biden Administration Pushing Ukraine to Attack Russia?

On March 24th, Ukraine’s President Vladimir Zelensky signed what was essentially a declaration of war on Russia. In the document, titled Presidential Decree No. 117/2021, the US-backed Ukrainian leader declared that it is the official policy of Ukraine to take back Crimea from Russia.

The declaration that Ukraine would take back Crimea from Russia also followed, and was perhaps instigated by, President Biden’s inflammatory and foolish statement that “Crimea is Ukraine.”

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who was a chief architect of the US-backed coup against Ukraine in 2014, continued egging on the Ukrainians, promising full US support for the “territorial integrity” of Ukraine. Many Americans wonder why they are not even half as concerned about the territorial integrity of the United States!

Not to be outdone, at the beginning of this month US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin – who previously served on the board of missile-maker Raytheon – called his counterpart in Ukraine and promised “unwavering US support for Ukraine’s sovereignty.” As the US considers Crimea to be Ukrainian territory, this is clearly a clear green light for Kiev to take military action.

Washington is also sending in weapons. Some 300 tons of new weapons have arrived in the past weeks and more is on the way.

As could be expected, Moscow has responded to Zelensky’s decree and to the increasingly bellicose rhetoric in Kiev and Washington by re-positioning troops and other military assets closer to its border with Ukraine. Does anyone doubt that if the US were in the same situation – for example, if China installed a hostile and aggressive government in Mexico – the Pentagon might move troops in a similar manner?
